@@markbone I really hope that there's a UA-cam video being made on this! So many of us have tried to mess with this NAS junk. All the other UA-camrs make it look, so, so easy...
Mark, thx for the book reco. I bought it and have started my 40 day journey. Seems perfect for always busy, ADHD-leaning people like myself. Such a simple thing to include in your video, but it's cool how God can take 10 seconds and turn it into a potential life change.

Why do you like the clicked aperture? The consensus is generally a declicked iris, because it allows for iris pulls, like when going from indoors to outdoors, or smoothly correcting exposure for clouds, for example.
Intrigued by the bluetooth audio setup, but also a little unclear what is being monitored by who, re: the airpods. We often just use a dedicated sound person on our doc sets, but I love the idea of this for passion projects. I need to dig back into my AOD courses to see what's new.
Always love your videos, Mark! I recently stepped up my game on the DJI Mics I already have with a lav from your recent lav audio-video! (or at least I saw it recently 😅). Although I don't shoot Documentary I watch almost all your videos and learn something new every time!
📱Thank you so much for sharing all this knowledge-it fuels my motivation daily and reminds me that my dream of creating documentaries is within reach. I can't express my gratitude enough, Mark. From Cannes( South of France) , a thousand thank-yous!
📱 I love how are you approach these. Always great to see the setup you use without fixating too much on the gear. Also, random note: I wish Pete had talked about the way that Artlist has approached exclusive AI voice actors. Lots of hate on his video but I think you handled it well. I need to check out that book, keep up the great work!
correct, but where the vast majority of people miss the meaning is that "bokeh" refers to the QUALITY of the blur (i.e. soft vs hard edges, smooth circle gradient outward, etc). "Bokeh" does NOT mean a blurry background. Therefore, you cannot have "more bokeh", for example.
The Ultralight arms are manufactured for underwater photographers/ videographers and can be found at larger underwater camera providers such as Backscatter.

When I saw the Artlist sponsor I was really hoping it wouldn’t be another plug for their AI. I’m a voice over artist and know I’m gonna take a hit from this. First it was Daniel Schiffer, then Peter McKinnon, now Mark… every one with an Artlist partnership seems to have been pigeon holed into promoting this AI. I get it. It was probably in their contract but still sucks to see. I get AI can be a great tool, but this particular use of it is diminishing a whole creative sector of real human voice over artists. Love ya Mark and all your content but man I’m sad to see this.
Just like stock music you’ll see in the long run, those who want the human touch will go for it and still pay for it. Nothing beats a human creating music, or delivering a voice over or writing a script. AI will always just be a bandaid in a pinch.
@@markbone I get that for sure. I just wish creators could express that more without having to follow the script Artlist probably provided for them. It just feels forced by everyone instead of giving honest opinion and thoughts on it. But I know these sponsorships help pay the bills. It happens in every industry.
@@markbone That still is killing off many smaller jobs for VO artist trying to make a name. With no projects to cut one's teeth on, there are much less opportunities. Much like Efg I love your work Mark, but seeing this be pushed is disappointing.
📱Awesome! Incredibly helpful with the breakdown and props to the animation of the gear map. But with all this gear, what are you using to pack all this up? Are you tearing it down? Doctor bag? All great talking points. And.... Love the FX6 choice for your camera, over a frankensteined FX3/FX30 rig build that everyone is for some reason on now. Their reason supposudely is that they like to buildup the cameras so they can break them down into a small camera ????? Makes Zero sense to me, but ok.
It would be great to see how you carry your camera setup, both on set as well as while travelling. IMHO requirements like easy access, lightweight, strong, protective, spacious, easy to carry and easy to stow away are challenging to balance. Oh, and here's an emoji: 📱
What’s your plan for getting Netflix to look at some of the feature docs you’re creating? Seems like the missing link no one I talk to understands how to do. Would love to hear what you’re doing.
I don't do any filmmaking (I use the same sigma lenses for photography), but I'm curious if its a preference, value, or performance thing compared to using sony GM lenses.
do you use additional ND filters in bright sun? How do you stabilize your footage? - Any lense with IS you could recommend? I wonder why the new sigma 28-45 does not have IS - then it would have been perfect.
I am serious about finally dropping for either an FX3 or FX6, but I saw in your other videos that there might be a an FX6mkii? Looking at the price of both with all the bells and whistles, it seems like the FX3 will get it done, but after seeing some of your reviews an videos, I'm now considering the FX6, especially since I plan on doing commercials/docs. It's soo hard to choose. The FX3 seems like a good starter, but the FX6 doesn't seem to be too far in price...it's certainly not double, but it's certainly an investment. Ugh, choices choices.
Hey @Mark Bone love your work. I'm debating between the Sigma 24-70 II and the GM II...The only reason I haven't bought the Sigma yet is the fact that it is non-linear. Since you do a lot of run and gun doc work, do you find the focus by wire on the Sigma problematic for manual focusing? or is it good enough to not notice? Thanks!
Great stuff, as always! I’m curious why you would sell a clicked aperature vs. de-clicked. Often, I’ll need to make micro-adjustments to the exposure and with a clicked lens you can really notice the jump going from one click to the next…whereas a de-clicked ring lets me feather the adjustment. Also, aren’t you worried about the clicking sound being picked up by the onboard mic? Whatever you’re doing looks and sounds fantastic so maybe it’s no big deal…Thanks for what you do!!
I'm wondering about the Sigma 24-70 E mount lens paired with the FX6. I love the FX6 but hate that it doesn't have IBIS. I know Catalyst Browse exists to stabilize handheld footage but I'd rather just not have to deal with that extra step. I've actually been using the same lens but the Canon EF mount version with an EF to E mount adapter because that lens has IS whereas the E mount version doesn't. The EF version is super heavy though and I'd love to work with a lighter 24-70 lens. Anyway, just wondering what your handheld solution is like working with the Sigma 24-70 E mount on the FX6!
Curious if you find the Core SWX Nanos to be consistent power wise? Both of mine are the older style with USB-A, and I find that they'll basically sit at "full power" until all of a sudden blinking like they'll die.
