  • (Artwork by Jeff D'Ottavio) Here is a beautiful song written by none other than Irving Berlin and turned into a classic country ballad by Patsy Cline. I think it rivals some of her more famous songs for beauty and emotional impact. Always was recorded on February 5th 1963, exactly one month to the day before Patsy Cline was killed in a plane crash near Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Patsy had the greatest voice in all the world. My mother just adored her. Now my mom has Alzheimers and can't talk much anymore but when I play Pasty's songs mom sings word for word all her songs. I t makes me cry. Patsy is still magical.

Whitney Houston, Minnie Riperton, Deniece Williams, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, and Dionne Warwick ALL have much more powerful and beautiful voices than this. Patsy was good but not the best that's for sure. Not even close to the ones I mentioned above.

What a dark day for the world when that plane crash occurred, taking the life of one of the finest singers in the world, in her very prime. At least we still have the sound of that incredibly beautiful voice preserved forever - until the Lord ends this world.

I just came across this song Pasty Cline was singing "Always" and discovered it was the very same tune on a little Music Box my Father bought me for my Birthday when I was a little girl, it made me start crying and it was like a message from Heaven to me from him making me remember that Music Box and I always wondered where the song came from, now I know, it is so beautiful

    Thanx so much.
I first came across Patsy Cline when I was nursing.
I was assigned to the old's ward at the hospital where I worked at the time.
The patients who were capable would have to go to the day room where games were organised and all sorts of activities were organised for them, they also had lunch there.
One day I was sent to this ward and we had to organise the patients.
Anyway one of the patients, an elderly woman, asked us to play Patsy Cline's CD music. We put it on for her and honestly won't tell a lie, I immediately fell in love with the music of Patsy Cline.
My patient shed tears and me too when I got home.
Just a beautiful singer, and I've been listening to her voice ever since. Sometimes I cry at her beautiful words in song.
That was in 2001, now it's 2021 and her music is still beautiful to me.
Thank you my elderly patient for introducing Patsy Cline to me.
I especially love her song "Always"

I am in my second year of grief over losing my husband to cancer. It's been a very difficult time. For whatever reason, this song came into my head this morning. It wasn't one that I ever really paid attention to but felt I compelled to listen to it now. It was like a subconscious message from my dear Johnny, who signed his cards to me with "Love, now, forever, and a day"... I miss you, cookie.

A classic song by Irving Berlin from the 1920's. I had no idea Patsy Cline recorded it. This must be from her last sessions (the same ones that produced her masterpiece, "Faded Love") since they're the only ones she made with strings. The sheer beauty of her voice and the eloquence of her phrasing make her one of the all-time greats. Anyone who says "I don't like country music" doesn't know what they're missing!

People must ask themselves where have all the great singers gone, they are just not there anymore and all singers of today just all sound the same, is it a social thing, genetics or what? This song could not be performed with such class by any singer of today, they just cannot deliver!

Don't agree, there are plenty of good singers around, but the studios want 'star' hey can milk and throw away after a few years. If you listen to Miley Cyrus away from her mainstream pop she has a beautiful deep rich voice, as one example. BUt of course the musical styles are different now, each generation chooses its own way to express itself.

    • @stratect
      @stratect 6 років тому +1

Spectric, it's called the coarsening of a culture through the influence of another culture. Romance has been debased and denigrated as something that is old fashioned and obsolete....All of country music has gone in that direction.....Will be interesting to see if the pendulum ever swings back.....but I doubt in my lifetime :)

when my mother passed away I was devastated and then this song came and I ended up sobbing while I was listening because I knew it was my mother saying I am with her in spirit and love you always..i think of it as a sign from her that no matter what she will always be with me..the anniversary of her death is coming up and my birthday which is the 12th of sept is the last time I heard from her..i had to get therapy to get me through the devastation of her death..we were never that close she was an alcoholic and she let the drink take her ..she was a beautiful women with peiceing blue eyes I have ever seen..that I could never forget..and she could of been a model she was that beautiful and smart as a wip but very stern and suffered from depression and a sever bi polor disorder..but no matter what I tried to be their for her as much as I could..and I tried to get her to stop drinking but she wouldn't..she ended up getting a bad stoke before she died and got dementia really bad and it kind won in my favor because I could talk to her all day and she wouldn't drink around me..i remember her last birthday which was aug 2nd I told her swimming she loved to swim..we had a great time..and loved every moment of it..how was I to know that be the last time I get to swim with my mother? the first week of September she was trying to walk and kept telling me she was sore from walking and she didn't walk much she sat on a couch all day..and I told her honey when you don't move around much it will hurt..She said she was sorry for all she had done to me and my brother amd being such a irresponsible mother.she use to beat us really bad and verbally abuse us and sometimes not feed us or let us take showers..but god turned me into a Christian in my teenager years and I forgave her..i told her that before she died..she gave me this confused look like she didn't understand then she said I want you to have something..i want you to have my little bible..her husband wasn't nice he was a drunk himself and would throw all her stuff away so she hid it.. I hated my step father very much he was so bad with her..when she died..we had a viewing and I just wanted to shake her and scream god please wake up..but then god asked me would you want her here to continute suffering with her bad addiction or would you rather have her here with me where she in peace and not battlng the demons of her addiction? I said of course I want her with you..and so then after she passed she was coming back to me..in dreams saying her last goodbyes..i remember this one dream we were in my old house I grew up at and she was sitting on the bed in her old master bedroom, and she smiled when I walked in..i said mom what are you doing? she said just taking this room all in..wont be here anymore after this..i told her I was going to mss her..she said everything is going to be ok don't you worry with a big smile on her face..and then I woke up..I sobbed because I think she was saying her final good bye to me..then this song came on .and it was so hard to believe she was gone but then again happy she no longer had to suffer the pain.

Incredibly touching story, Sparrow. I have one similar about this song, but as unique as our stories may be, the message of this song is pure love, our most precious gift from God! For us to realize this and feel it so passionately in our lifetime is just a glimpse of what heaven will be like for us all. Irving Berlin and Patsy Cline collaborating to inspire these feelings in as many as will look for it must truly be the reason for our existence.
If music as an art is inspirational, we've certainly been blessed in our generation above all others, but in MY experience this song is truly transcendent, as it surely must be to you. Always keep sight of your higher purpose, especially on your anniversaries. You're never truly alone. Our gifts are ours to share with others for encouragement. Thanks for sharing your story for mine.

I just read your very touching story. I cried through the entire thing. My mom passed away when I was 7 yrs old so I never got the opportunity to really know her. I only remember a couple of random memories of her. My childhood story is also similar to yours but thank God I can't remember it. I too got saved at a young age...12 yrs old l... & God has helped me through so much pain in my life.
I don't know what it's like to have a mom. That's a love I'll never get the chance to experience. But God's love for me has never let me down. He has always been there for me & I know He has a plan for my life.
May God bless you & keep you.
      Be well.

I'm only 26 years old, but it is one of my favorite songs. It was one of my grandparents' favorite songs and it was played at my grandfathers(pop-pop to me) funeral. I will never forget this song.

This was my mom and dad's favorite song as a young couple. Now it makes me think of my wife and her devotion to me. Dare not tell her cause she may not feel the same

Once i started to sing this song as it was new to me... suddenly my mom started to follow the son amazingly. It was her song too. My mom passes at 96 10 years ago. I still come to tears when I hear the song. Thanks to Patzy in heaven!

My father loved Patsy Cline...his favorites were "Sweet Dreams of You" and "I Fall to Pieces"...I do not know if he was aware of Patsy's rendition of this song (I never heard him mention it) but he would have loved it...RIP Dad and Patsy...this world has an emptiness without both of you.

I know that she is from another generation...but she is soooo good. My father is gone...and soon my mother will be too. But this music will forever keep them close to me.

I love this song. I sing Patsy Cline songs for a show here in Iowa call "A tribute to the Grand Ole Opry Show'. Has been fun discovering her music all over again.
