My single greatest regret is that he had to die for our cause to live” That is why this version of Magneto is one of my favourite villains. He’s not one dimensional, he has emotions. Charles was like a brother to him and he respects him. In the previous film he is genuinely sorry that he told Stryker about the school even when it was against his will, he’d never betray Charles like that. I’d like to think he took a moment to privately grieve.

Brett Ratner replacing Bryan Singer as director was because Singer bowed out to do 'Superman Returns' (strange choice to some). This one moved a little quicker than the first 2 films and upped the action (a la' video games and animated series). Between Jean becoming the Phoenix, this new cure being made and Magneto staging a final attack to tip the balance did make for some goodness. So much was cut from the film as the alternate versions of some scenes and deleted scenes are actually pretty cool. Most of us following the franchise knew that this was the end for the moment. Fox wasn't done and more X-movies were coming. But last and not least, X3 did another milestone as the first-ever Marvel movie with a post-credits scene.
Here's the issue with part 3, and the following installments; back then, these A-List actors weren't willing to commit to an entire decade or more of playing a single character. Hence, Scott's and Rogue's roles being pulled way back, being replaced with Logan and Mystique as our mains. They tried, and they were treading new ground at this time, but the franchise is kinda all over the place from part 3 on. It's still good, but it's like a lot happens between movies from now on, not so much continuity. Still love the X-Men franchise tho, and will gladly watch along until you get to Deadpool 3!

While it is true that this movie is unfairly maligned for reasons beyond its entertainment value alone, those reasons are significant. "The Dark Phoenix Saga" is a beloved and complex epic serving as a major milestone in X-mythology. As the film trilogy is so grounded, it was impossible to tell a sweeping saga of interstellar empires and cosmic beings spanning millennia. Fox tries once with each cast and failed twice. As a film without context existing in a movie vacuum, it is fun, exciting and in keeping thematically with the other two entries. As an adaptation of the Phoenix Saga, it is an abysmal failure. By the way, Scott, not Wolverine, kills his beloved at the end of the story but, as Hugh Jackman was the popular lead and main audience POV character, he did the honors in the film. Katherine "Kitty" Pryde goes by the name Shadowcat. In the comics, she is the character that Rogue represents in the series as the new girl with a crush for one student and a close friendship with Wolverine. Her character was played by a different actress during the mansion invasion in "X2". She was the kid who slipped through her bed and phased through a commando. Ellen Page took over the role in "X3". The brain-dead body Charles inhabits is that of his twin brother. This is not mentioned in the movie but comic readers recognized the plot. Henceforth, when you see Stewart Xavier you can subscribe to the twin rationale for having the same face or just assume he is projecting the Stewart face to others for the sake of familiarity. Unfortunately, this movie is the end of this storyline’s continuity. Fox pivoted the franchise into a different direction after this, so just go with it from this point on. Try to avoid the urge to reference what you see going forward with what he watched in these 3 original films. Completely different continuity. Spare yourself from any confusion. Just enjoy the ride, stay open minded.
What I didn't like about those X-Men movies is that they were based souly on wolverine... cyclops was killed off because the actor signed to be in Superman returns because the original story Cyclops was the main reason Jean was able to fight the Phoenix entity due to the strong love they have for each other not wolverine and Xavier didn't die because he played a role of the mental stability of her mind.
Reembok, you will get to the New Mutants movie eventually from 2020 , that is set in the 1980s, but after that you can watch the movie, Generation X , that is set in the 90s, that is on youtube i think, it came out in 1995
Basically, and ultimately, there isn't a single " bad " X-Men related movie among the what, 11 to 12 either directly or indirectly included in the chronology! Perhaps " New Mutants " ; which isn't the worst thing you will ever watch, and that group itself, as far as lore and such, is highly canonical within the Marvel Comics print universe stretching wayyyyyy back! 👊🏻
