"They can cure us?" asked the young lady that drains the life out of anyone she touches. "There's nothing to cure," said the woman who controls the weather and was actually worshipped as a goddess.
Funny enough she was dead in the comics when this movie came out (Civil War started the month this movie released). Something they'd never let happen now.
one of my favorite moments in comics is when Beast brings the X-men from the past to the present day point in comics and Jean asks "how did I die" and Beasts says "which time" and she doesn't know how to respond to that.... to know you die in the future is sad but everyone dies you know it can happen... to find out you die multiple times? that is something different altogether
I laugh when Beast tells Wolverine "Boy, I've been fighting for mutant rights before you had claws." In truth, Wolverine was the oldest mutant in that room.
@@evanbriggs443 How would hank know at that point (they just met) that he even had the metal grafted on? He was talking age and he assumed Logan was younger than he is.
Yes and they did opening scene of her very well. The scenes in her old home were cool. Regardless of how this story was told, because it's Jean Grey story it's still cool asf and in hindsight is one of the best one we've had so far in movies. Hopefully they do it even better the next time!
It was ONLY done well in the 1990s animated series. Both live action attempts failed miserably, because they tried to compress it too much (Dark Phoenix) or basically turned it into the side plot of another story (Last Stand).
@@Ambaryerno Dark Phoenix was designed to be a Phoenix origin story. It was meant to be the first film of a Dark Phoenix Saga/Inferno trilogy. The movie even ended with Jean teasing that her story will continue. So they didn't really compress it.
I love the names that people give to mutants who don't intamately know the lore. Wolverine put it best in the first film when he called Professor X, "Wheels." lol
It's a weird thing in most modern superhero movies that they hardly ever mention the super-names of many of the characters. They do it with a number of the mutants in these X-Men movies, and they do it with a lot of the characters in the MCU as well.
It had Kelsey Grammer as Beast as another example of spot-on casting, just like the first film had for Prof. X, Wolverine, and Magneto. I'll give it that.
Kelsey Grammar and Patrick Stewart yes, dead ringers for the role. I didn't think Hugh Jackman fit the role before the first movie came out but now it's hard to imagine anyone else playing Wolverine. I still don't think Ian McKellen was the best choice for Magneto but he did a good job.
@@Instantphojo they getting a good bag to watch these before the next Deadpool movie so it’ll happen. Just gonna be like watching a horror movie reaction with these two lol
Then they started to do a few variations but always was "mutant A flings mutant B to the sentinels head to instantly take it out" Telekinetics doing the throwing, throwing Shadowcat instead
Yeah used that a lot on X-Men legends back in the day, most people didn't even know you could do that move bc they were the only characters that could do a move like that.
It's pretty funny how you said "That was 20 years ago and they look exactly the same", because, when this movie came out, there was a lot of discourse about the CG used to make them look younger in that opening scene. Not only was it shocking and mind-blowing for most of us to see Patrick and Ian digitally de-aged, but that technology was so groundbreaking at the time that many articles and videos were written about its use and the potential to digitally change the appearance of actors on screen in the future (much of which we have definitely seen at this point).
To be fair, Patrick Stewart hadn't really changed all that much from 20 years ago. He's one of those men that rushed into a certain age and stayed that way for much of his adult life :) That said, it's really sad to see that THIS iteration of de-aging technology is far less jarring than more modern stuff, like Tron 2 and Fallout. I think it's the jowls and the "wattle", the skin connecting the jaw and neck: they get far looser and, well, droopier in older folks and the computer can't map the younger image to it
Interesting Fact: The character Juggernaut isn't actually a mutant in the comics. He was Charles Xavier's stepbrother who had attained his abilities from a powerful magical artifact called The Gem of Cyttorak. Also, the best part of the movie is definitely the Quote. "Charles Xavier did more for mutants than you will ever know. My single greatest regret is that he had to die for our dream to live."
That was HARSH too, Eric's statement. And he saw it and felt it as a final statement. Like Charles had done *ALL* that could be done, and since THAT didn't change it, nothing would, so this is right. ...which, was....what Charles had been trying to explain to him was not the case, but since the vast majority of Eric's most tragic experiences were always ultimatums, he couldn't process profound experiences ever being something OTHER than an ultimatum. (And also you're a huge nerd and I love you, I as fellow nerd chose to join "the momentum" with the Juggernaut thing but as a 90s girl I was a bit unhappy with the contradiction but just "rolled with it")
I was watching this movie today with my brother and we were talking about this. I thought he was a mutant and my brother just thought he was really strong. Thanks for the clarification!

Yeah, he wasn't a mutant, but still hung out with The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Magneto either didn't know or didn't really care. What I want to know is why the movies never had them hanging out with dinosaurs in the savage lands.
Carly: (points at Wolverine at 32:49) "Can he be cured? B/c he was kind of made." Cassie: "That's true. Maybe his healing ability would go away, but not his metal." Good question from Carly, and good answer from Cassie made my inner nerd proud.
Problem is he actually can't be cured. His strength and healing skills would go away. But then the metal in his body would immediately crush him. The only way would be to remove it first in a surgery and then give him the cure.
@@HarryCaneNo1 If the metal is fused to his bones i'm not sure they would be able to remove it in surgery because Adamantium is meant to be indestructible, so how do they get it off his bones.
In the comics Colossus would often throw Wolverine at attackers in a team playing technique they both dubbed as "The Fastball Special." It was great to see this being given a nod in the Danger Room sequence.
That last set piece with Jean causing chaos was pretty spectacular. And Wolverine having to end her. A lot of very memorable scenes and effects. It's just that the movie feels disjointed somehow. Probably because of the switch up with directors.

I agree with your original assessment. Leechs' mutant "curing" ability is proximity based, and Rogues is contact base. So there is no way she would be able to "take" his power since hers would be "gone" before she could get close enough to touch him 👍
Not true, Leech's power can be turned on and off just like most mutant abilities. We see this in the animated series where Magneto can still use his powers when Leech is right next to him.
Originally, in the comics, both their powers were passively on full time. When they first met, which I wanna say was during the Inferno event, iirc they somehow canceled each other out, and both their powers got switched off temporarily.
@@hulkslayer626 So many people seem to have a hard time separating the comic from the films. They seem not to understand that the comic are completely irrelevant to the films, which are an entirely new artwork that must be considered independently on its own merits.
Next is X-Men Origins: Wolverine, followed by X-Men: First Class, then The Wolverine, followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past, then X-Men: Apocalypse, followed by Logan, & finally X-Men: Dark Phoenix
X-Men Apocalypse, The New Mutants, and the first two Deadpools are a part of the franchise, too. For better or worse. They should watch them and suffer like we all had to.
Fact: This movie was directed by Brett Ratner as Brian Singer (director of the first 2 X-Men movies) left for WB's Superman Returns. As Ratner was not too familiar with X-Men lore, he depended heavily on the screenwriters to craft the story.
James Marsden also left with Singer to work on the Superman movie, leaving him almost no time to film this one. Hence why he was killed off early, because most of his scenes had to be cut.
@@Zombiesnyder13 For Singer not directing TLS or Ratner being hired? If Singer, I think Singer has some responsibility for that as well, as he wanted to direct SR.
Just a heads up for you two. Continuity goes out the window in the X-Men films from here on out, so don’t worry if things don’t make sense as far as the timeline of events.
@@Hikuro2pnt0 A leaked turd is still a turd. 🤣 Being leaked didn't change the bad plot or terrible choices made about how to bring the new characters to the screen.

I know this is Marvel not DC. However, if they were to do another batman movie with Mr. Freeze, Kelsey Grammar would make a perfect Mr. Freeze. In my opinion.
*Angel* & *Beast* The "Eagle" character is called Angel (Warren Worthington III) who made his first appearance in X-Men #1 (1963) and was an original member of Professor Charles Xavier's X-Men appearing alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Iceman. Marvel Girl being Jean Grey's name throughout the original 1960s X-Men comics. Beast (Hank McCoy) also appeared in X-Men #1 and like Angel was an original member of the first X-Men team. During this time Beast didn't have his iconic blue colour or fur at all and resembled a human with big feet and hands. *The Little Kid* & *The Morlocks* The little kid who can "cure" Mutant abilities is listed as Leech a kid from the comics and X-Men Animated Series but the movie differs greatly from his comic/animated appearance. In both the Comic and Animated Series Leech is depicted as having green skin with big clear eyes looking closer to depictions of classic green aliens than a human in terms of his face. He was taken in by the Morlocks a community of mutants living in the underground tunnels beneath the New York area living as outcasts thanks to how they looked, unlike most of the X-Men excluding Nightcrawler and Beast most of the Morlocks cannot hide their Mutations and suffer the most from Anti Mutant, hideous and deformed according to the humans. The church scene in this film did showcase the Morlocks but I would've preferred more unique physical Mutations, film highlighted people with unique facial structures that made them stand out but I wouldn't say it made them look like a Mutants just normal people with a one of a kind face. Compare this to someone with spikes sticking out of their body to a person with white skin and massive red eyes. I feel like the people behind the film didn't want to go too far into the "monstrous" thinking it would scare away the more mainstream audience. Judging off how they made Leech a normal looking kid which is a shame as the Morlocks are such an important aspect of this world and so are Mutants who stick out as differant. But regardless we still got characters like Nightcrawler and Beast giving you an idea of how much a Mutation can change a persons phyrcial appearance. *Lack of Personality* Alot the background Mutants are pulled from the comics minus their iconic outfits so most of them are easy to miss. After watching X-Men 97 i started to re-remember how much personality all these Mutant characters have in both outfits and character designs something the films strip away unfortunately for alot of them. It's like Captain America showing up in a tank top with a star on it... I feel like Superhero films during the early 2000s were just scared of showing anyone with a colourful unique outfit. This is something we've thankfully overcome in the past two decades and even before this during the later half of the 2000s we started to see more personality come into the outfits worn by characters from Watchmen to Superman Returns and Spider-Man.

Personally I think all of the X-men movies are kind of cheesy except for Logan. Everything from costume and make-up, script and effects just seem too cartoony and not like a world you could believe is real. And DOFP is acclaimed as one of the best superhero movies ever? I thought it was just ok.
HAHA, I think they are ready to go to a comic con now. Funny how many random discussions I have had over the years with friends and strangers about different fandoms.
They were wrong about that. Leech's powers do not switch on automatically. Rogue or any other mutant could use their abilities in his vicinity, he has to consciously shut them down, and that won't happen if he is surprised or his concentration is broken.
@@Rocket1377 That doesn't seem to be true in this film universe. Otherwise, he would have turned his power off so Kitty could make them escape through that wall. Maybe in this universe he'll learn that kind of control eventually -- or, then again, maybe not.
I personally would recommend the *FIVE* episode Dark Phoenix story arc from the 90 X-Men Animated Series any day over this film for anyone who wants a perfect adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga. For me the Animated Series is the definitive version of this storyline so it saddens me so much when films try to adapt these amazing stories but just miss the mark by a light year. Same thing happened with Batman & Robin (1997) a film that pulled from the Batman Animated Series, episode *Heart of Ice* but did not come close to the masterpiece of storytelling that is the Batman Animated Series. Sometimes I feel like Animation is just the way to go for most comic book media but then we get some amazing comic book movies and shows and I think "Wait a minute this is amazing stuff" and then Madam Webb releases.... Then Invincible and X-Men 97 are amazing and you think "Maybe Animation is still the way to go".
Comparing BTAS with Batman & Robin.. I had to double-read that, as my first thought was you meant' The adventures of Batman and Robin' aka BTAS season 2.... and then the realizing came you where making the futile attempt to compare BTAS with THAT movie.
It's actually a ten episode arc, but yes, the animated Phoenix Saga is by far the best version of the story. It's even better than the original comics version.
The reason this movie gets hated on is because "Dark Phoenix Saga" was a pivotal story arc in the entire run of the Xmen comics, and this movie was a pale illusion of an adaption of that story. But the franchise make up for it with "Days of Futures Past", another pivotal story for the comics and one of the best Xmen movies overall, and it is the one that JLaw stars in.
Yeah, they really messed up the Phoenix Saga. Jean is supposed to get these vast abilities from an external source. It's not supposed to be a dormant power she always had. She literally destroyed entire worlds, and was put on trial by alien civilisations for her crimes. Limiting the story to Earth completely destroyed the magnitude and scope of the storyline.
The reason it gets hated on is because it's a bad movie (the script is disjointed, key characters die with very little narrative motivation, it's missing the humour of the first two and the action is generally pretty lacklustre - all IMO of course). Very few that saw it could care less about the treatment of the "Dark Phoenix Saga" from the comics (that's not a diss on comics BTW - love 'em, wonderful art form - but they have nothing to do with how mainstream audiences view movies). (conversely, 'Days of Future Past' is a _good_ movie, with a coherent script and basically every beloved character from the franchise - again, very few that saw it could care less how well it adapted Claremont's arc. Also, Jennifer Lawrence is in 'First Class' too and yet you're the second person i've seen in the comments state she's in DoFP as if it's her first outing)
reseeing it years later here. it feels like the biggest problem is that its tacked on. its pretty clear that David Hayter probably intended for the next movie to be purely about phoenix but whoever took over just didnt have the knowledge and focus so you it feels like a subplot
@@anonymes2884 If so few care to see the source material actually being used, then why have there been so many horrible failures in both TV and movies? I think you are underestimating how many true fans of the source material there are and how it does in fact end up affecting the business. When you change a beloved storyline or character, (which is the reason comics for example would sell so well) in order to adhere to an agenda, why would you expect your audience to consume it lovingly? You're basically just pissing off your fanbase. Sales go down. We've seen plenty of this in the last decade in both comic sales, TV, and movies. It also continues to get worse.
However, the soft reboot XMen that come right after this have two instant classics back to back. XMEN FIRST CLASS is appropriately named as it is first class all the way. Incredible blueprint how to reboot a series right. However, XMEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is the high water mark and XMEN movies finest hour. No spoilers. That’s something I noticed at the beginning. They said the “cure” *suppressed* the x-gene, not destroyed it. If it was suppressed, that means it could be reawakened.
Having watched X-Men 97, and seeing how Mags reacted when a mutant got their powers taken in that, and comparing it to the way he just abandoned Mystique in this makes me hate this one just a little bit more now.
That scene was perfection, X-men 97 has almost ironically been the biggest hit of nostalgia while having the most risks, depth, passion, creativity and soul poured into it. A continuation of a 90's kids cartoon outclasses most of the MCU.
And multiple X-men are Omega level Phoenix is off the scale, she/it (the Phoenix force can manifest however it wants)...is a singular multi-versal level threat, the cosmic force of creation and destruction. As crazy powerful as she was in this movie, her powers were kinda weak compared to the comics.
Omega doesn't not mean they are most powerful. It simply means they have unlimited POTENTIAL. Forge is the most powerful technopath on Earth, but he is not an Omega level mutant, because he has reached the maximum level for what his ability can achieve and cannot grow beyond that limit.
Hank IS called Beast or The Beast. Also yes the Chess piece did move. And yes Charles put his consciousness into that person’s body so he technically isn’t dead!
Just posting without looking it up (cbf) The Mutant 'cure' ends up to be only temporary (hence Magneto moving the chess piece at the end) Prof X did in fact transfer is consciousness into another body right before he died (when he was talking to his class about it, the body in a coma, in the 'zoom call' during the class is actually his twin brother! His twin brother is brain dead so its kinda ok for Xavier to take it over)
Next up X-men first class. There’s 3 wolverines. Wolverine origins. The Wolverine. And Logan. A lot of people dislike the origins movie. But the origin of Wolverine is good. It’s what they do to other characters that people complain.

It's funny you mentioned Wanda because in the comics Wanda was Magneto's daughter and yes, she and Jean Grey were two of the most powerful mutants in that universe.
This was the highest grossing X-Men film for 8 years. Yet it's considered one of the most hated. Brett Ratner replacing Bryan Singer as director was because Singer bowed out to do 'Superman Returns' (strange choice to some). @@k.delpino1124 Idk if that's the sole reason. It very well could be, but i feel like the producers wanted the film released quickly which is usually the case. It could also be that the writer took the first idea that sounded decent for a live-action film and put it on paper. However, we'll probably never know the real reason unless someone involved decides to say it. I would give the film about a 6 out of 10 personally. Not terrible, but just decent.
When Jean flipped in the final sequence, Phoenix *OBLITERATED* all the "cure" in a "whateverthefugmileradius" so that's why it wasn't a "just cure her" thing.
The X-Men, particular the comic book era written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by (fellow Canadian) John Byrne with inking by Terry Austin is a treasure trove of some of comic's best stories, but sadly, no film has ever really reproduced the original stories or matched their quality. The entire Dark Phoenix saga was a masterpiece, but would have needed the film budget to be doubled for an accurate recreation. In that comic arc, a mind controlling villain named Mastermind infiltrated Jean's mind and then courted her in the Victorian era in a time travel simulation. This was done with the help of an evil mutant consortium called The Hellfire Club. He was the reason her mind broke and Dark Phoenix emerged. And when it happened, Jean just didn't vaporize a few people. She blasted across the universe and destroyed entire and solar systems with alien civilizations. To end her rampage, it literally took an inter-galactic battalion of powerful Alien super heroes to slow her down long enough for Charles and the others to try and bring her back, while preventing her from devouring entire galaxies. Jean's death was a jolt that caused the letters section of the following comics to be filled with upset fans who were shocked and brought to tears over Jean's demise. I'm hoping that someday, perhaps not even in my lifetime, that a future filmmaker will reproduce their stories accurately with the budget necessary to pull them off. Until then, this franchise is just a bunch of action movies, loosely based on the comics and written to reach the widest possible audiences to turn a profit. Still, they're fun in their own way, and the reactions are great, as usual. But to the original comic fans of these stories, nothing produced on film so far has captured the emotional gravitas of the original comic books.
Regarding the ending: There was an idea to have Leech stand by the window, leaving it up to the audience to decide, whether or not Rogue actually took the cure.
I've been following your channel for a while now and I never said this since I don't comment much... "Your channel's name is sooooo Cool" it represents exactly what you wanna do when watching a movie, specially movies like this one, just laying down, throw a fleece on or whatever you have at hand and eat some good old fashion pop corn, this is everything all movies' fans are looking forward to, congrats you two, I've always enjoyed your sincere reactions
In this movie, it probably would have worked because the phoenix is simply a part of Jean, not a cosmic being that would make 99 out of 100 powerful things shit their pants with just a stare. Comics phoenix would have laughed at the 'cure' and went on a killing spree out of spite.
All the plastic needles and the cures inside them would have atomized before they got near her. The only things that could survive the destruction aura she was putting out were Wolverine, and Wolverine's pants. Had to keep that PG-13 rating after all.
The critical reception and public opinions of this film were both very divisive and mixed upon its initial release. Regardless of whatever your thoughts, praises, or criticisms are on this movie, the one thing I think we can ALL universally agree on is that choosing Kelsey Grammer as "BEAST" was one of the absolute best choices they made and it’s astounding how well they were able to get this character down! From his casting, to his make-up and prosthetics, to his sophistication, to his mannerisms, to his animal-like fighting, even him reading upside-down! Next to choosing Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine and Patrick Stewart as Xavier/Professor X, this is without a doubt as pitch-perfect a realization as a cinematic X-Men character can be! Which REALLY makes it such a pity that the film producers and executives (or whoever's in charge) NEVER asked him to reprise his role after doing this movie, especially seeing how wonderful he did here AND the fact that Kelsey Grammer has voiced his desire to reprise the role several times!
The X-Men franchise's perfect casting decisions: Hugh Jackman as Logan (though he's too tall and good-looking, he nonetheless nailed Logan's personality and savagery) Sir Patrick Stewart as Xavier (to the point that many people coming to the books from the movies are SHOCKED how morally dubious Xavier actually is because Stewart so defined him) Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler (though they could have used more of his fun-loving swashbuckler personality) Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool Dafne Keen as X-23 Josh Brolin as Cable Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik I'd also say that Famke Janssen was a great choice for Jean, and many people did enjoy Taylor Kitsch's portrayal of Gambit. There were other good choices, the problem is most of them (such as Lana Condor as Jubilee, Olivia Munn as Psylocke) were criminally underused and just didn't get enough to do to show it. Fox may have made a lot of missteps, but when they actually did connect with one they CRUSHED it.
I would have recommended that they skipped a Live Reaction to this one. They were totally confused the whole time and didn’t understand anything about how this one played into the comic books or animated series story arcs. When these movies came out, those who knew the comics and cartoons watched their favs come to life or fall flat on the big screen. By the time XMen2 came out, everyone unfamiliar with the XMen had already done a deep dive on researching these characters online (especially the wiki pages) so that they weren’t confused by the plot or characters in the movies to come. We talked to our parents, our kids, our grandkids, our grandparents, our aunts, uncle and cousins, and our friends about their familiarity with the origins and story arcs. This is how I know that these Reactors really don’t like the movie recommendations if they are not even interested enough to look up any information for unanswered questions or get the back stories of these characters on their own. Most don’t even bother reading their comments where viewers tell them everything about everything. We couldn’t wait to find out (enjoyable homework, knowing we could ace any pop culture test). They choose to sit in ignorant confusion (taking the 0 in class, all semester long, barely opened the book) before, during and afterward. I just don’t understand it. Most of the time the trailers told us everything we needed to know except the How and What’s Next; everything else we read about on our own or were already very familiar with. Too many of the Reactors either want to be or have to be spoon fed the answers because they have brains too lazy to want to do the work for themselves. But that’s just my opinionated review and I am just one viewer.
Ladies, as a longtime X-men fan who grew up reading the comics, I have a lot of grievances with some of the narrative shortcuts and misinterpreted character arcs in this film franchise. I must say, however, that I find it so gratifying that the core concepts, the drama and symbolism, and the characters are still punching through and speaking to you so clearly. You are picking up on every clue and deeper meaning so much so, that I feel I must amend how harshly I have come to judge these movies in recent years. A truly great reaction. Kudos. When you are done, the X-men '97 cartoon may be right up your alley. While the 90's show it continues from was clearly for kids, "'97" is one of the best X-men media adaptations ever.
The guy with blue fur, played by Kelsey Grammer, is named Beast, just like Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, etc. There are three Wolverine movies, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which tells his backstory, and introduces the character of Wade Wilson/Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds. Audiences liked his portrayal of Wade and HATED how they depicted the Deadpool character. Actually, he wasn't really Deadpool. Then there's The Wolverine, a stand-alone story featuring Logan. And finally, there's Logan. After this movie comes the prequel X-Men: First Class. Which was made because the studio wanted to "reboot" the series with younger actors, but they didn't want the fan backlash that would come from just remaking the movies, so they made it a prequel. Then they added a little time travel in a later movie, changing the timeline, and presto, they can make movies with a younger cast and do whatever they want with them. They also ignore the fact that the stories stray into the same time period as depicted in this movie, but the characters are still being played by the new cast, rather than these original actors, as should logically happen.
Great reaction. I watched your vlog interview today and you were awesome. I was telling my wife about your back story a little bit. She's not a person who follows reactions, but she definitely finds your journey interesting and I keep her up to date. I let her know how much I enjoy you Cassie and I love the the dynamic between you and Carly when she joins you.
This movie just flushed down the toilet some of the best stories of xmen comics only in exchange for a few impactful scenes and saying "I want to do my own thing". They scr* it so bad that they had to find a way to undo this mess in the following movies.
@@The_Invisible_Hand who is spoiling now? And yes, you are right. But the reason for that was X-men 3, which essentially made impossible to continue the franchise with adaptations of other stories in the comics after killing half of the key characters. There was nothing wrong with 1 and 2.
Okay the one person that they completely messed up on was The Juggernaut. For starters juggernaut isn't a mutant. Juggernaut is a Marvel Comics character, a powerful supervillain primarily known for his immense strength and invulnerability. His real name is Cain Marko, and he gained his powers from the mystical Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. He's often portrayed as a nemesis of the X-Men, particularly his stepbrother Charles Xavier (Professor X). And of course NO GAMBIT!!! which by this point they should have introduced in this film especially when Rouge went for that "Cure". Leech, is where the Cure came from, but it's not permanent it only suppress or holds back whatever abilities you may have... If you're a level 5, 6 or above type mutant the supressent won't work. If you notice at the end where you see Eric manipulate that metal Chess ♟️ piece that's because he was shot 💉 with the cure 48hrs ago, and it was wearing off.
Nah, the fact they killed Scott - the second most important character in the original Phoenix Saga after Jean - in like the first 10 minutes was a bigger screw-up than Juggernaut.
"They can cure us?" asked the young lady that drains the life out of anyone she touches.
"There's nothing to cure," said the woman who controls the weather and was actually worshipped as a goddess.
“Is Jean really dead…again?” You just summed up every X-Men comic for the last 30 years
Funny enough she was dead in the comics when this movie came out (Civil War started the month this movie released). Something they'd never let happen now.
Jean is Loki
At the Pearly Gates, Jean Grey and Loki have their own express lane.
🤣
That, and her recurring orgasmic faints.
one of my favorite moments in comics is when Beast brings the X-men from the past to the present day point in comics and Jean asks "how did I die" and Beasts says "which time" and she doesn't know how to respond to that.... to know you die in the future is sad but everyone dies you know it can happen... to find out you die multiple times? that is something different altogether
I laugh when Beast tells Wolverine "Boy, I've been fighting for mutant rights before you had claws."
In truth, Wolverine was the oldest mutant in that room.
@jason42080 obviously you didn't see my post about x2 how mystique is Nightcrawlers mother and Rogue and nightcrawler are half brother snd sister.
While yes, Wolverine was the oldest in the room...
Beast could have been referring to when Wolverine went through the Adamantium grafting process.

Jean Grey and the "Phoenix Saga" is one of the biggest stories in the X-Men comics. It was also done really well in the 1990s animated series.
Too bad this version sucked because the writers & director decided to make up their own version.
@@russelturner5771 No. It is because the studio rushed the production/filming and decided to end the series to focus on prequels.

Not. Funny. At. All.

He was cast when Matthew Vaughn was attached
Kelsey Grammar and Patrick Stewart yes, dead ringers for the role. I didn't think Hugh Jackman fit the role before the first movie came out but now it's hard to imagine anyone else playing Wolverine. I still don't think Ian McKellen was the best choice for Magneto but he did a good job.

@@ericseitzler81 *Because Wolvie was 5'3 and Colossus was 7'7 in the comic book.*
Forget changing, they can just digitally create the actors now.
Avatar was the next big step in that. Beowulf was semi-groundbreaking as well.
To be fair, Patrick Stewart hadn't really changed all that much from 20 years ago. He's one of those men that rushed into a certain age and stayed that way for much of his adult life :)
That said, it's really sad to see that THIS iteration of de-aging technology is far less jarring than more modern stuff, like Tron 2 and Fallout. I think it's the jowls and the "wattle", the skin connecting the jaw and neck: they get far looser and, well, droopier in older folks and the computer can't map the younger image to it
@@SilentSooYun Yeah he seemed middle aged for like 50 years. lol
I came here for this
Interesting Fact: The character Juggernaut isn't actually a mutant in the comics.

Carly: (points at Wolverine at 32:49) "Can he be cured? B/c he was kind of made."
Cassie: "That's true. Maybe his healing ability would go away, but not his metal."
Good question from Carly, and good answer from Cassie made my inner nerd proud.
Yeah ! It was giving "The Big Bang Theory" vibes ! ^^
@@gatekeeperboxing5898 Magneto would have to rip it off his bones, then he'd have to heal from that, then he could be 'cured'.
Actually, if you remove his healing factor, the adamantium would eventually poison him until he eventually would die from it.
In the comics Colossus would often throw Wolverine at attackers in a team playing technique they both dubbed as "The Fastball Special." It was great to see this being given a nod in the Danger Room sequence.
Haha I love how ya’ll call Mystique “Blue Girl”. Iconic.

So there is no way she would be able to "take" his power since hers would be "gone" before she could get close enough to touch him 👍
Does it still work if he's unconscious?
Not true, Leech's power can be turned on and off just like most mutant abilities. We see this in the animated series where Magneto can still use his powers when Leech is right next to him.
Originally, in the comics, both their powers were passively on full time. When they first met, which I wanna say was during the Inferno event, iirc they somehow canceled each other out, and both their powers got switched off temporarily.

The "Eagle" character is called Angel (Warren Worthington III) who made his first appearance in X-Men #1 (1963) and was an original member of Professor Charles Xavier's X-Men appearing alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Iceman.
*The Little Kid* & *The Morlocks*
The little kid who can "cure" Mutant abilities is listed as Leech a kid from the comics and X-Men Animated Series but the movie differs greatly from his comic/animated appearance.
*Lack of Personality*
Alot the background Mutants are pulled from the comics minus their iconic outfits so most of them are easy to miss.

It's actually a ten episode arc, but yes, the animated Phoenix Saga is by far the best version of the story. It's even better than the original comics version.
@@Rocket1377 *You're giving Disney Plus ideas.*
One day we'll get first the phoenix saga then dark Phoenix
But, it's the one truly non prime era MCU film that could've fit in with those movies in terms of quality. It's freakin' cool.
Imo Logan, + Deadpool 1&2 were equal to, if not better then DOFP. However, all 3 of those films focus on one character so i find it difficult to compare them.

If you think Patrick Stewart looking the exact same as 20 years ago is somehow supernatural, I must disappoint you. That's just the power of Patrick Stewart. Dude has looked the exact same since the early 80s until deep into the 2010s. It's only recently that he started showing his age.
The X-Men have a "holodeck" called The Danger Room. The metal skin guy is Colossus, who is in Deadpool, with a different look played by a different actor.

The 1-to-5 classification for mutants has got to be an invention of this movie. In comics, the most powerful beings are Omega level threats.
It's just FOX X-Men.
Thank you for relaying this information.
And multiple X-men are Omega level
Phoenix is off the scale, she/it (the Phoenix force can manifest however it wants)...is a singular multi-versal level threat, the cosmic force of creation and destruction. As crazy powerful as she was in this movie, her powers were kinda weak compared to the comics.
However there are also some who demonstrate powers *BEYOND* Omega Level
Do NOT try to figure out a comprehensive timeline for these movies. Think of them as alternate universes.

This one moved a little quicker than the first 2 films and upped the action (a la' video games and animated series).
Between Jean becoming the Phoenix, this new cure being made and Magneto staging a final attack to tip the balance did make for some goodness.
So much was cut from the film as the alternate versions of some scenes and deleted scenes are actually pretty cool.
Most of us following the franchise knew that this was the end for the moment.
Fox wasn't done and more X-movies were coming.
But last and not least, X3 did another milestone as the first-ever Marvel movie with a post-credits scene.

37:55 "Did everything in that movie just get reset?" Welcome to the X-Men movie series. 😆
Regarding the ending:
There was an idea to have Leech stand by the window, leaving it up to the audience to decide, whether or not Rogue actually took the cure.

34:12 - Accurate comparison: The Phoenix is a Nexus Being, just like the Scarlet Witch. Injecting Jean with the antibody would have been ineffective.
In this movie, it probably would have worked because the phoenix is simply a part of Jean, not a cosmic being that would make 99 out of 100 powerful things shit their pants with just a stare. Comics phoenix would have laughed at the 'cure' and went on a killing spree out of spite.
This isn't the comics. These are different versions of the characters. Why do so many people have trouble grasping that fact?
All the plastic needles and the cures inside them would have atomized before they got near her. The only things that could survive the destruction aura she was putting out were Wolverine, and Wolverine's pants. Had to keep that PG-13 rating after all.
@@JakkFrost1the Wolverine and wolverine’s pants 🤣
I still remember the audience reaction to Magneto moving that chess piece.
Seen The Marvels yet?
Actually, Kelsey DID get a chance to cameo as the Beast again briefly -- and may come back in a HUGE way if you've kept up on recent Marvel films.
#IBlameAviArad
The X-Men franchise's perfect casting decisions:
Hugh Jackman as Logan (though he's too tall and good-looking, he nonetheless nailed Logan's personality and savagery)
Sir Patrick Stewart as Xavier (to the point that many people coming to the books from the movies are SHOCKED how morally dubious Xavier actually is because Stewart so defined him)
Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto
Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy
Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler (though they could have used more of his fun-loving swashbuckler personality)
Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool
Dafne Keen as X-23
Josh Brolin as Cable
Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik
I'd also say that Famke Janssen was a great choice for Jean, and many people did enjoy Taylor Kitsch's portrayal of Gambit.
"Could he have just got a boat?" Exactly!
excited for Wolverine Origins, not everyone's favorite but I like it
Ladies, as a longtime X-men fan who grew up reading the comics, I have a lot of grievances with some of the narrative shortcuts and misinterpreted character arcs in this film franchise.
Get rid of this spoiler comment.
Edited. I don't think it is a spoiler of anything now. Not much a spoiler before either as I did not give details of what was going to happen exactly.
The entire first trilogy was "undone" by Days of Future Past, not just this movie.
@@The_Invisible_Hand who is spoiling now?
And yes, you are right. But the reason for that was X-men 3, which essentially made impossible to continue the franchise with adaptations of other stories in the comics after killing half of the key characters. There was nothing wrong with 1 and 2.
A little explanation for the post credits scene when Charles says “Hello Moira”. In the comics, Moira Mctaggert is Xavier’s love interest.
Where has the Apocalypse Now reaction gone?
Honestly, of the original 3 X-Men films, this one is my favorite because it was the first one I recall watching.
Nah, the fact they killed Scott - the second most important character in the original Phoenix Saga after Jean - in like the first 10 minutes was a bigger screw-up than Juggernaut.
lol... describing Beast as "like beast from beauty and the beast" without knowing his hero name is priceless Cassie.
