Defensive driving means not slow driving. You should maintain the normal road speed and be very analytical. Like the bike guy could see bus driving recklessly and creta is also impatient. In such a case, he could have slowed down his bike in hard shoulder, once they are at safe distance, raise the speed. It's commonsense that buses and trucks have huge blindspots and they will ideally not be able to see small cars in thier mirrors.
Possible hai ki creta bus ke blind spot me ho. But frankly speaking Government Buses are dangerous so it is a good idea to keep a safe distance from them.

Creta driver seems to be less experienced! Be that is a bus or lorry or truck, those heavy vehicles' drivers literally don't care of others and the consequences as they remain in safe zone, most if the times. As you have rightly said, the Creta driver SHOULD had dropped the idea of overtaking and slowed down... Unfortunately a person who was right had lose life because of wrong people! Both bus driver and the creta driver should be punished!
Bus drivers was wrong 10%. But creta driver seems to be inexperienced with no brains. If he had braked, the 2 wheeler guy would have been saved. I know few people who dont break and try to get by at the same speed. 90% mistake is of creta driver.
Never take too much time in overtaking. Stop parallel driving with other vehicles. Especially with heavy vehicles. You go or let other to go.

Bike rider's helmet must be ISI mark. They are worst. In one of my bike accidents, my Wrangler make ISI mark helmet broke and injured my chin. Happened with couple of other people I know who had worn ISI mark helmet. Always prefer DOT or ECE marked helmets. Are costly but saves life.
This shouldn't happen at the first place if only either the bus/creta drivers were sensible enough. That poor bike rider had nothing to do and was in fact in the safe zone. Agree that the bus driver is at fault but the Creta driver should've slowed down instead of over taking the bus.

4 mistakes in a chain caused this accident:
1. Container moving slow in the fast lane caused bus to be slow behind.
2. Bus moving slow because of container, ok. But didn't let creta pass when creta was faster and had been trying to pass through for long time.
3. Creta tried to overtake and failed. Whenever you fail to overtake you slow down and wait for another opportunity and not stay in the blind spot of the bus.
4. Biker is driving parallel to bus initially. Then when creta is trying to overtake bus he should have slowed down and given creta space but no, he wanted to ride like he is lost in a different world too.
All of them caused this accident. Ek banda b inme theek chal rha hota toh ye accident taala jaa skta tha.
Another important aspect I have noticed more common is that, most of the drivers turn on their indicator and immediately take turn.
This is most dangerous habit to avoid.
Those slow-moving trucks will almost always be on the right most lane!
Many are telling creta was at the blind spot of the bus driver, no idea about that, but typically bus conductors or helpers inform that to driver. Not sure that bus has conductor or helper or not. Every big vehicle should have helper who can assist driver regarding blind spot.
I think the bus was giving turn indicator well ahead before turning. Probably the creta driver did not see that being on the left side. This brings another question that whether the vehicle on the side of the bus can see the front indicator light clearly or not during daytime. If not then the bus or any big vehicle front indicators need modification.
Did the creta driver give horn when it saw the bus was turning. It applied brake too late. In any case, being on the side of a big vehicle that long on a highway is not at all a good idea.
On Indian road being right is not enough; one needs to be constantly alert and anticipate while driving/riding. It is really sad that without any fault of his own the bike rider died.
Edit: I completely forgot to mention that even if the creta was in blind spot, it is the bus driver's responsibility to ensure there is nothing on the side he is turning. Giving indicator does not automatically give them (or anybody else for that matter) right to change lanes, they need to ensure first that it is safe for everybody.

One mistake in both videos that everyone seem to ignore. Never overtake from left side. NEVER!! and heavy vehicles should never be in the fast lane.
Heavy vehicle drivers don't follow such rules. So, no choice but to overtake via left side. But should honk and use headlights to alert the driver as much as possible.

Very important rule that every well experienced driver/rider ought to know: when you are side swiped by a bigger vehicle, slowly apply brakes and let the difference in speed do the trick. Never turn your vehicle away. The next one is: avoid being in the blind sector of a heavy vehicle (usually 2 thirds of the vehicle from the front or in the area of the rear wheel)

My bike instructor told me - ride at the roads speed, not slower, not faster ... and dominate your lane, so that car driver does not get idea that he can come to your right. Having very little margin for bikes, creates dangerous situations.

Tip to bikers: always own the lane. Drive through the exact middle. Don't go to the shoulder lane. If someone has to overtake you, they'll do it through the right lane.
My analysis:- 1) Creta should have waited for clear view before overtacking.
2) overtacking should not take more than few second, if soo should return to inital position to avoid any such happenings.
3) Avoid crossing or overtacking vehicles if there are other vehicle already on road.
4) Only for bikers:-Always slow down and let other vehicle pass , don't drive side by side even if you are correct, bigger vehicle won't loose anything. Other than materialistic things, biker will loose their life. Choice is yours
4) these Bus Driver should be punished as he knows clearly that theirs a vehicle in his right side trying to overtake, he should have slowed down to give a free pass, if not soo, may have checked the rear view Mirror before changing lane for overtacking,
Creta was in blind spot of the Bus and bike was in blind spot of the creta when these vehicles hit other .. Both Creta and bus drivers are reckless

Once I was hitted by a car in the same fashion at belgharia express way. As I spotted the city/Verna in the rear view mirror I left with minor injury. As usual WB police does not lodge FIR and asked me to provide the car number if I need to complain.

If you are using Dash cams, firstly ensure you have a rear cam as well accidents can happen on either end. Additionally use cams that display your speed , if you are driving properly this will help showcase that you were following rules and were inside the speed limit. Also if theres a dispute about speeding you can help your claim by showcasing your video from your cam (provided the judge admits it)
Its all about clear decision making on the roads....when in doubt just DONT do it....simple. Better be safe than sorry is the golden rule.

What I can take out of the first video is that the creta driver was distracted because for a really long time he didn't notice bus moving to his left. He saw it at very last moment and reacted in panic so he moved abruptly towards left. I step out and drive for 15 minutes and I can see minimum 2-3 people using phone while driving be it car or bike.
Most important thing to remember, maintain enough distance from front vehicle, no tail gating, to react in emergency, authorities must enforce the rule
Never ride your two-wheeler beyond the continuous white line on the road. You have every right of a full lane even if you are riding a two-wheeler. just keep riding in the left full lane ( not beyond the white line). if someone wants to overtake then let them overtake from the right overtaking lane.

Something similar happened to me 15years back. Was on a highway a overloaded truck was driving on the overtaking lane and not giving way to overtake. Just indian highway things.
It was a 3 lane highway and we tried to overtake from the middle lane the truck out of nowhere hit us and started changing lane and flipped over. We hit a bike both people were wearing helmets but still sustained a lot of damage. And the truck guy runaway.
The truck could have flipped over us but our car went into a spinning motion and we moved out of way uncontrollably.
Even now whenever i see a truck/bus on overtaking lane i try to either overtake from the 3rd lane or just honk and make them move. No overtaking from blindspot of big vehicles. If you do constantly give dipper or honk while overtaking
Though it may seem counter intuitive, riding underpowered commuter bikes on the slow lane is far more dangerous than riding a mid size bike that can easily keep up and if required go faster than the 4 wheelers . This accident and many like it would never happen if the bike was doing 80-100 kmph and was not blocking the faster traffic.
ALL traffic should move at equal or close to speed limit. Don't know why a bike should move at a slower speed on indian highways. It creates changes in speed which cause crashes. But indian 2 wheelers can hardly reach and cruise at or near 100 kmph.
ALL vehicles and drivers should respect and share road with other vehicles, car bus or a bike.
I don't know how many times I have saved either myself or other person by just honking, guys use honk relentlessely, don't care about sound pollution or anything and don't use a dipper to look cool while overtaking in day, use horn, even if you are able to prevent 1 accident in lifetime of your vehicle, then n number of honking doesn't matter.

1 st fault 100% : truck driver who had not driving in middle line, and drive in slow speed in overtaking line.
2nd : Creta driver because he had enough time to overtake which he had not done timely.
3 rd: Bus Driver take sudden turn when truck driver not give him side.
4rh : Biker not in the speed of that line which is between 20 to 30. It's cyle line.

Actual mistake is of the truck. They are not supposed to be in overtaking lane. Government should ban trucks from using overtaking lane and put heavy fine if they do so. Buses should also be in the last lane, only for overtaking they should be using first lane in 4lane road. If its six lanes buses should not be allowed to the final lane at any cost. Scooters and bikes below 200cc should not let to use highway as they are not designed to do so. Rikshaws and any 250cc goods carrers should not be let in highways. These are basic rules whoch india never implemets. This is why these accidents are common.
Rta is very quick in banning tints and some useless bans, but will never work on actual problems.
I drive on highway a lot and one mistake lot of bikers make. Never drive close to a bus or truck in same speed. If two vehicle drive in same speed side by side then road will be blocked fully. But here case was different
Nowadays, the kind of cars people are buying, the faux SUV kind of cars, the roll over accidents are bound to increase.
For the 1st video. I have seen this happening far too many times. There are so many things wrong in this video that I got dizzy analysing all the scenarios. There so many flawed concepts implemented by drivers in India it just feels like all drivers should take and international driving test and I almost am certain 80% of our drivers who hold licenses will fail.
First problem no one understands that on the highway the right most lane is the overtaking lane and neither you or your father nor your forefathers own that side of the road. If you have completed your overtake and have sufficient distance between you and the car behind then carefully plan your manoeuvre and move to the other lane ( this needs to be done everytime you use the right most lane for overtaking)
Second problem and this is a mindset issue one needs to understand that driving on the road is a collective responsibility, when Driving I will not only lookout for myself but also for everyone who I shall encounter on the highway or the road(else shit like this will happen everyday) . People need to understand that every life is precious and till the time we have a no nonsense approach on the road ,accidents will keep happening and the human element will be blamed constantly. Our approach is to ensure we don't add to the already shitty road accident stats in India.
Third problem this is an issue and can be improved we need to make people aware and keep increasing education of the drivers and ensure newer drivers learn this, these learnings even apply for commerical or heavy vehicle driver as well. The idea is to ensure people learn how to plan your maneuvers, anticipate situations and have driving aids which tell them if they have somebody in their blind spot
Fourth problem is absolutely fundamental (basic) learning how to use indicators. The moment you decide to use indicators , check your god damn mirrors first. Whatever lane you plan to change to check that side first , then your rear view and then the side mirror and once you have established you have space then only start changing lanes. Unfortunately no one does so and the rationale for such an act and justification that I have heard it from so many people is that the car behind or their respective sides will lookout for it the driver may not worry (this is absolutely wrong and potentially fatal attitude to carry).
Fifth problem responding to situations I understand the bus driver was at fault when he swerved left the Creta driver was equally guilty here since he moved left as well (one can argue he was just responding to a situation where he could hardly have done much) which is partly right but he could have braked hard and not swerved , he definitely saw the bike rider on his left. ( I understand i am being harsh on Creta driver)
Sixth problem the bike rider was driving on the shoulder of the road that is beyond the solid white line . Only in scenarios where your car breakdown or has a puncture then only you should be on the left side of the white line else slow down and move back to the right side of the lane. I understand no one anticipates this to happen but certain rules are there to help you and could have worked for him.
Finally thinking about Safety its a concisious decision. Please analyse all your decisions on the road so that it doesn't have an adverese impact on anyone.

2. "दम है तो पास कर वरना बर्दाश्त कर" यानी अगर 1 मिनिट तक ओवरटेक नही कर पाए तो प्रयास छोड़ दो। दोबारा ट्राई करो। इस तरह पैरेलल चलना मूर्खता है।
अगर बाइक वाला कार से और कार वाला बस से इतने देर सटके ना चलते तो जान ना जाती

#1 . Creta is at fault but also bike riding shoulder to shoulder is a big mistake that biker made ... he was on NO LANE SECTION of the HIGHWAY TRACK ..... THE RULE IS TO STAY IN MIDDLE OF WHICHEVER LANE YOURE RIDING / DRIVING IN. rip . Hope the family overcomes this tragedy asap.

Creta must have applied brakes when the bus swayed in its lane.. it is creta who should have applied brakes.
It may sound brutal, but if a dog or small animal comes in front of your car & you don't have the time or road position to save it, it's better to simply let them hit your car. Just to save an animal you might lose your family or your own life. But with bigger animals like cows or buffalo, avoid hitting them at all costs, as hitting them will cause huge damages to cars or passengers.

बाइक और कार दोनों ही ड्राइवर की गलती है। कभी भी सड़क पर दूसरी गाड़ियों के पैरेलल में चलने से बचना चाहिए। बाइक वाले की गलती थी कि उसने अपना लेन छोड़ दिया और क्रेटा को अपने बगल में आने दिया। अगर आने दिया तो स्पीड कम कर के उसे आगे निकल जाने देना चाहिए था। क्रेटा वाले की गलती थी कि वह गाड़ी पर कंट्रोल न होने की वजह से ओवरटेक इनिशिएट करने के बाद न अबॉर्ट किया न कंटिन्यू जबकि उसके आगे लेन क्लियर था। बस वाले ने पहले क्रेटा के आगे निकलने का इंतजार किया लेकिन जब क्रेटा ड्राइवर आगे निकलने की हिम्मत नहीं कर पाया तो बस ड्राइवर ने आगे चल रहे ट्रक को ओवरटेक शुरू किया और इसके लिए इंडिकेटर भी दिया। लेकिन क्रेटा वाले न स्पीड कम करने की बजाय एकदम से लेन बदल लिया और बाइक वाले की जान चली गई। क्रेटा ड्राइवर पर 302 का मुकदमा चलना चाहिए।

I disagree with some of your analysis. For example in the first video, the complete fault is of the bus that made a totally unsafe lane change. The Creta car is at no fault absolutely.

Both the bus driver and Creta driver was overtaking from the left because the container truck was driving on the first lane.These container trucks move slow and so they should not be allowed in the first lane ( rightmost) and probably should be fined. Who is responsible for this life , the container truck driver or bus driver or creta driver or the road safety department?
