I have an old 586 I bought in Nevada when I was stationed out west with the firing pin on the hammer and the gunsmith there told me it didn't hurt them to dry fire them. He even lightened the trigger pull for me. Of course it really comes down to personal preference and I respect that!
Over the years I have seen a few Model 12 s, all in 2" except one used by a forward thinking cop in the 1970s who preferred the lighter weight on his duty belt. He would have appreciated a Glock. Dry firing even with snap caps would still have the hammer slamming hard onto an aluminum frame by the firing pin hole.
Can or can't shoot +P is a bit of a point of confusion. Depends on which ammo manufacturer. Standard pressure .38 Special is maximum 17,500psi. Some ammo manufacturers interpret "+P" as being loaded to MAX standard pressure while others view it as EXCEEDING standard pressure. Winchester and Federal load their +P rounds less than 17,500psi and is most likely safe to fire in any .38SPL and including old "air weight" revolvers. Remington and Speer load their +P as high as 18,000-19,000psi which is quite a bit hotter and way more risky to shoot in older revolvers that aren't rated for +P.
I have a 12-2 that has less than 100 rounds through it. Excellent condition. It’s exactly as the one you’re showing here. Any idea what it’s worth? Bought it so many years ago (Houston gun show when it was in the old Astrohall) I’ve forgotten what I paid for it. Looking to trade it for something else, but don’t know the value. Thanks.

Wow I’ve never seen that . Very beautiful revolver sir , thank you for sharing.
That thing is so beautiful! :D
That's a nice smith model 12 , even the box looks nice. Bought a model 60 no dash, it came with the box and stuff
I just bought one at a pawn shop for $80 put the door, it’s needs some cleaning and rust cleaned but is a diamond in the rough.

S&W should produce aluminum K frames again! I dont know why they dont do it. Maybe they think K frames in .38 only wouldnt sell?
I dry fired all my Model 10s more than I shot them, and I shot them 50-100 rounds a week. Never a broken firing pin.

I have one only 6 rounds through it. And I have the same question of what it's worth.
About 650-750 depending on the buyer and condition
What about with original box paperwork and tools ? Also in excellent condition such as this one ?
@@brandonpablo5272 no, unfortunately, no box or tools. It’s in excellent condition.
I cringed every time you dry fired her. What was the point???
