Kitchen Make Over How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets

- In this video, I walk you through the step by step process for painting your kitchen cabinets for a fun kitchen makeover. I used Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in the color Stormy Seas mixed with a little Caviar to get the pretty color of the island, and then I used Dixie Belle Silk All in One paint in the color Baja Gray for the rest of the kitchen cabinets. Prep is the key to doing any kitchen makeover.... clean really well, rinse, scuff sand or use a bonding primer like Dixie Belle Slick Stick. I recently painted my kitchen cabinets with Dixie Bell Silk Baja Gray. It is a beautiful color.
Yes, Baja Gray is a gorgeous color and I notice the subtle color change throughout the day. During the day my cabinets gray and in the evening they look to have a beige tone to them. Very versatile color and the Silk is soooo smooth to brush on. Thanks Shelly and Happy New Year ! HUGS

How does it hold up so far? The paint seems awesome due to very minimal VOC. Does it smell a lot?

The cabinets look beautiful! Is that the kitchen in the farmhouse you built? It looks different, I love that farmhouse that's why I noticed. Anyway I love watching you and pick up tips from you pretty much all the time so I should be prepared if I have a need LOL take care
Thank you Ethel :) No, we sold the house we built during the summer and bought this house to move into. The taxes in the area we lived in before kept doubling each year and we didn't want to deal with the taxes since my husband is retiring in the spring. We moved to a low property tax city near by. Can you antique with the dark wax with the silk paint? Thanks for sharing
Yes, you can wax, glaze, stain..... all over Silk as long as you've let it dry 24 hours before doing so. Thanks for watching...HUGS
Hi! Thx for a great instructive video. I am currently painting my kitchen cabinets using Dixie Bell Silk in Endless Shore and Hampton Olive. Did you sand in between coats? Also, I was going to use Gator Hide as my protective coat. Do you know if it will cause yellowing on the white paint? And lastly, why did you choose to go with clear coat rather than Gator Hide. Thx!
Endless Shores and Hampton Olive will be gorgeous together. You can definitely use Gator Hide over it as extra durability. It won't yellow on you and its water repellent. I chose clear coat over mine only because customers can't order Gator Hide right now because the raw materials to manufacture it is currently unavailable until further notice (so that is why I chose clear coat vs gator hide).

So, if you use Slick Stick you don't have to scuff sand?
If you use Slick Stick, then you do NOT need to do any scuff sanding. Just make sure you clean cabinets really well and then rinse cleaner residue with water, then apply Slick Stick and let it dry for 24 hours before painting over it so it has a chance to adhere fully to the cabinet surface.
