  • I'm trying out a new paint line by Dixie Belle paints called Silk. Its an all-in-one mineral paint (primer and sealer built into it). When painting "high gloss, laminate, or plastic coatings" I do recommend still using a bonding primer like Slick Stick from Dixie Belle for a strong adhesion. I am testing this product and will give a full review before January when it comes available in the US and Canada. It is for sale already in Australia and New Zealand.
    This not a chalk paint....it's a mineral all-in-one paint.

    This is a self leveling paint & most bloggers are recommending you remove the cabinet doors and paint flat. I did two bathrooms using DixieBelle silk and took the doors off. They turned out beautifully. I am now planning on doing my laundry room before finally tackling my kitchen. This is a wonderful product for cabinets. I plan on using Gator Hide over the Silk paint for the laundry room and kitchen for extra durability. **It is recommended by Dixiebelle to not use water to spray the cabinets or the brush**

    Lol I really liked it with just the first light coat. I might try that on my bathroom cabinet which is the same as your cabinet. Great tutorial!

    Saw you do the resin pour on the countertop today on FB, then here is the cabinet make over. Perfect timing, as I would like to paint my laundry cabinets, and possibly the kitchen. Will definitely be interested in how these hold up. As I was thinking I would need to prime, paint and top coat. But really would prefer to use an all in one if it holds up well.

    I have begun my kitchen cabinet make-over using silk paint. My cabinets are oak with a slight sheen factory finish. There is a small amount of bleeding with white lightening, so I’m using boss. I took a class locally to learn how to do this but it seems everyone has different ideas about how to do it. I didn’t like the way the satin clear coat looked on my sample door. I’d prefer using no top coat or one that is less shiny than the satin. Some say don’t use top coat at all. Some say you can use any poly acrylic. I actually really liked a video using Behr’s clear wax. It held up really well to their stain tests. How well are yours holding up now? Is topcoat even necessary? I’d also like to do some accents using best dang wax. Any advice on how to apply? One person told me not to even use the best dang wax at all. Use chalk paint instead. It’s so crazy confusing when different people tell you that everything you learned is wrong. One person even told me not to use silk on cabinets. They said chalk is better. Ugh! Any help? I’m using whitecap for the uppers. Considering baha grey for the lowers.

    I noticed your hinges are not on the outside and there are no handles. Can you use the Silk on them? I want to avoid taking my doors or knobs off. This is so exciting!!!

    Have you ever partially paint a piece of furniture? If piece looks fine but want to add decor to match room, transfer, gilding, etc. Is it possible to not paint entire piece? Have you done it?

      I ripped off the laminate on mine and painted with this paint. Best decision I’ve ever made.

    Do you still use boss,with that new paint?
    Can you roll it on,with a foam roller?

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Yes you can use a foam roller and I don't use boss unless the wood is a notorious bleeder. The paint is like having 1 coat of a stain blocking primer in it. If you would normally do more than 1 coat of a stain blocker with other paints then you would use 1 less coat with this .

    Did you paint inside the doors ? I’m about to start this project in my kitchen toon

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      I didn't on this project because its in my workshop, but if it were in my kitchen, I would definitely do the inside of the doors.

    Thought you’re not supposed to use water at all with Silk as it ruins the all in one properties?

    How is it holding up so far?

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  3 роки тому +4

      Holding up great !! The only thing is that with the dark color, I think I may put a clear coat over it to avoid dusty fingerprints. That's the only thing I've seen so far is that the black does show if you have dusty fingers (like dust on my clothes and fingers from sanding in my shop all the time). But as far as holding up ...no scratches and looks the same as the first day I painted it.
