Joe Walsh - Confessor

- Lyric:
If you look at your reflection in the bottom of a well,
What you see is only on the surface.
When you try to see the meaning, hidden underneath,
The measure of the depth can be deceiving.
The bottom has a rocky reputation
You can feel it in the distance the deeper down you stare.
From up above it's hard to see but you knowwhen you're there.
On the bottom words are shallow.
On the surface talk is cheap.
You can only judge the distance by the company you keep
In the eyes of the CONFESSOR.
In the eyes of the Confessor,
There's no place you can hide.
You can't hide from the eyes (of the Confessor)
Don't you even try.
In the eyes of the Confessor
You can't tell a lie,
You cannot tell a lie (to the Confessor)
Strip you down to size,
Naked as the day that you were born,
Naked as the day that you were born.
(Tremendous guitar work)
Take all the trauma, drama, comments,
The guilt and doubt and shame
The what if's and if only's
The shackles and the chains
The violence and aggresion,
The pettiness and scorn,
The jealousy and hatred,
The tempest and discord,
AND GIVE IT UP!
The most underrated rock song of all time.
@Tarvious Williams “The measure of the depth can be deceiving”
Amen!!!
Don't know about that. It's a great undiscovered rock video tho....
One of the best rock songs of all time
Outstanding
Great song with words that are so true today at the end! The world needs to listen to Joe Walsh!

SUCH A TRUE STATEMENT! "On the bottom words are shallow
The surface talk is cheap
You can only judge the distance by the company you keep"
I bought this album in 1985, right after my son was born. Almost 40 years later I'm still listening and loving this AWESOME song ❤️ The Eagles couldn't have chosen a better member. Joe gave them THAT EDGE,❤️
Always loved this song, probably one of the most underrated songs of all time . I'm a hardcore metal fan but this song KICKS ASS
Any headbanger should LOVE the guitar in this song. Its just tha shit!
How hardcore are we talking?
@@themaestro5946 Pro-Pain my favorite band, Pantera, Megadeth, Lamb Of God, Prong, Machine Head, just to name a few.
That's what I was thinking. I love all music mostly. He could be a total jammer for other but get down to a whole new stage with him as the lead. It could be heavy metal actually.
“You can only judge the distance by the company you keep”….. more relevant today than ever!
I could not agree moreand am sharing this with a former acquaintance as of today..TY Joe Walsh
Back in the day when good stuff was on the radio
Fucking records
Filter
on my cassette
Totally
And on MTV...
joe walsh never disappoints.., whether its the james gang , solo or the eagles his playing is unmistakable.., he totally leaves his mark on everything he does...., he's a rock hero....
His guitar riffs are very unique. Only the guitar greats have that unique sound. It's like you know who it is before anyone sings a word to the song. Even if it's brand new.
I have seen him live 4 times. He never disappoints.
When I saw him more than 30 years ago he was too wasted to talk, but he could still play that rock and roll.
The next time you see a guy playing a guitar in the middle of a desert it's either some dude trippin balls or its' Joe Walsh. :)
maybe Slash is out there somewhere too
It was Joe Tripping
Or David Bowie pretending to play SRV.
Hahaha...true story
WOW NICE GIBSON
One of the best rock songs ever written
Amen! Love this song!!!
My 10 yr old daughter watched this with me . She was mesmerized ! I told her " Welcome to the wonderful and witty world of Joe Walsh " !!!
Don't let her hear ILBT. I always hated that song.
Here come a bunch of WA wa's
Lol
This has always been a favorite for me!
Exceptional guitar work, impressive lyrics, oddly uncharacteristic of his more humorous songs.
I had a chance to see him with my late sister in Santa Clara, in 1988, in a small venue. We were in the first seated row and it was more like hanging out and partying with him!
He started off with this tune, playing acoustic slide for the first verse, pausing as the lights went down, came back with his trademark pale blue strat and the full band. It was a great show and a great memory for me, spending quality time with my, now passed, little sister.
Killer man,I just think Joe sounds better when playing a Les Paul, only because stats sound like shit, but that's not your fault bro, rock on,you have good taste in music,no one likes you personally, but damn are we glad you.are here!
@@moonwoofmars I hope this is a joke post or else WTF is your problem? Also strats do not sound like shit! Exhibit A: Jimi Hendrix, Exhibit B: David Gilmour, Exhibit C: Kieth Richards. Don’t get me wrong, Les Pauls are amazing guitars with a signature sound (especially when it comes to distorted leads) and yes, Joe Walsh’s sound is all about that guitar, but don’t say it doesn’t have its place in the pantheon of culturally influential instruments.
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
the bottom has a rocky reputation.what a line
This song rocks...and is so fuckn deep, it's scary. Classic!! Joe Walsh kills this song and its so underrated.
Joe LaPorte Stevie Nicks help him write that song that's when he was hooked up with Stevie they had a kid together you know
I kept waiting for it in April in Atlanta. Was not rewarded. Other than that he delivered a fantastic (Better than I ever expected.) show.
Joe is considered one of the greatest American musicians ever. Far from being underrated.
Does any one else hear that Jet plane sound in his riffs? Awesome!!! I haven't listened to Joe since the late 70's and early it's.
Honestly, I think all of his songs are deep - you just have to get past his comical way of seeing things in his lyrics to find that there is something there, something deeper than you realize...But, it's there.
My favorite Joe Walsh tune.
Thank you Joe. A masterpiece of creation and a part of life.
A lot of people don't realize how great a guitar player Joe is !!! I have a Guitar Player Magazine from the early 70's with Joe Walsh, he talks about how he tears equipment down and adjusts things or rebuilds it to his liking. Always loved Joe Walsh.
Yeah, Joe is a pretty smart and technical oriented guy, he's also got a Ham Radio Operator's license and has been a hobby of his for along time now...
Severely underrated guitarist
He was/Is a Creative genuis With the Strings!!! He imbibed a lot Of Liquid Spirits but It was His Muse-Vacationism of said World-Wide Fame....
Good for you. I would love to see a picture of the page from your memorbilla.
Probably as good a showcase of Joe Walsh's talent as there is... I never get tired of hearing this song.
Love Joe Walsh and his music. It's been a lifelong journey. He inspired me to be a party animal when I was younger. He now inspired me in my search for truth, sensible living and helping others achieve the same, as I am helped. Thank you Joe Walsh, for your inspiration and music. And yes, the laughs🤣💖🙏🎸
Was gettin' airplay in the Summer of 1985.
While his eyes are striking. He looks beautiful in this video. Great hair. Genius song.
Don't make them like this anymore. Heard it on a local station on the way home friom work today and just had to see the video as soon as I got home. Too bad there is not a higher resolution version available. Brings back a lot of good memories!
Ain't no doubt.
Just like the slogan "Hooked on Phonics", You're Hooked on HD!
Still hitting us hard in 2022.
Classic Joe ;)
Hell yeah it is!!
Like a Led Zeppelin song
2023
FOREVER ‘THE CONFESSOR. NEVER FORGET. FOREVER MINE.
REMEMBER ALWAYS
Joe Walsh has written many great songs, but this and "In the City" are so powerful. "City" is stark and lonely, showing the brutality that comes with civilization. But "The Confessor" reaches in and grabs your soul and forces the confession of your sin right out of you.
I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore. No more good music like this coming out.
marty3888 wait ... “video killed the radio..”
Exactly, unless it's music on Classic Rock stations, that's all I ever listen too anymore.
@@philipthomas6808
The problem with most classic rock stations is they play the same top hits of that era over and over. It would be nice if they would play the deeper cuts of Joe Walsh, Allman Brothers, Hendrix, Doors, ELP, etc., etc.
The man, the legend, Joe freaking Walsh.
Ya, I was born in '57 and when you hear insane music coming out every single week--well, it changes you forever. Creativity on so many levels. Everyone exploring... Now, there are songs written by committee and algorithm, drum machines and auto tune...and very few musician/singer/songwriters who's songs will be played 40 yrs later...>sigh
Joe Walsh is an excellent musican, the lyrics, riffs, and vocals in this song makes you feel your emotions rise.
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
Joe was the First Known artist I saw at 19yrs. alive.....Till this day, I'm now 66! Still has the mojo he started with.... I've seen 19 shows, without the Eagles. Eagles went sky high when Joe hooked up with them. The Confessor a work of genius!
49 people need to just GIVE IT UP!
I ABSOLUTELY ❣️ Joe Walsh!!!! I never get tired of his music! The Eagles made a brilliant move when they recruited him!!!! He's Genius! The Confesser, is a work of art!
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
All I can say is badass
Newer guys could take a lesson from guys like Joe. He's still keeping it real.
Set aside the lyrics and images, this is one of the best rock songs ever written... add the lyrics and images and it's gold made in heaven. 'nuff said....
This song cannot be played LOUD ENOUGH!!!! Joe Rocks!!!
He's like God's always watching!
One of the best rock songs ever written. Instrumentally it had a BIG sound with the guitar riffs and the sound of the drums. Just a bad ass piece of work. Joe you did it. You own it. One of the best to do it and this song was before it's time.
Joe Walsh rules! Him and Felder made the Eagles way more exciting.
Favorite Joe Walsh riffs.
Excellent guitar work!
one of the best guitar solos ever..
I think jon bonjovi owes joe a check, the beginning sure sounds like a blaze of glory ?
i was thinking the same thing//
dragonsfire6664 Bon Jovi made is career off other people's songs....lol
Bon jovi is complete joke joe out weighs him
Might as well throw Paul Stanley in on the check also,Ripping off Tomorrow for Shandi.
Many owe Joe Walash 😊🎵🎼
If Joe Walsh tells me to respect the eyes of the confessor, ok, that is something I admire. Joe inspires me to play guitar and maybe try to write one organic song lyrics like him one day.
One of my favorite songs of all times!
..If you look at your reflection in the bottom of a well...
I was a kid when this came out and always thought it was cool and was so different from most of the radio hits at the time but Joe Walsh always does his own thing and I think its great !...And I love some of the 3 chord tunes that came out back then but this song was always special and different in a good way cause who else could do it?
Really, a song about not fooling God or ourselves...good wise words.
The man in black, best guitarist ever. He had his guitar tuned at the crossroads in Mississippi. Awesome song. No doubt
I love this song it's one of my favorite Joe Walsh songs
Another work of art by the Blonde God of Rock!!!!
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
another kick ass song, wish the radio stations would play it more often.
One of the greatest rock songs ever!
Joe Walsh. Best combo of talent and stage presence of all the guitarists out there.
Man, I LOVE JOE WALSH!! What a rare talent…it’s impossible to not feel good and grin ear to ear when joe is in the room…just naturally musical right out of the womb, it seems
I've read that Joe's Mom was a former pianist with the Wichita (KS) Symphony Orchestra. 👍
I saw him in Lake Placid, NY in 1985 and he blew my mind. I was 15 and he was so amazing.
Joe unleashes one serious guitar riff in The Confessor but what do you expect from Joe Walsh.
2 dislikes? what were you people expecting a hiphop remix version or something? This is Joe fkn Walsh! Straight forward, not flashy, hardworking. Loved every second of this video.
First time seeing this video. Been a Joe Walsh fan since 1972. Incredible player & character.
Joe's incredible Talent what happened to rock and roll like this where has it gone long live rock and roll
The Confessor always felt like a well written rock overture.. love it.
And the ending sequence to this video is exactly how to portray the climax.
Joe said Stevie Nicks was with him for the entire process of this album and it definitely shows. Awesome!!
Love Joe's sparkling word play.
Al these decades later i never knew there was a badass video for this song!!!🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁😎👍
In my opinion he was an excellent guitarist and a great joy to watch him play!!!
Posted over 13 years ago.
Excellent songs just never die.
One day I'll make a remix of this music video. It just has to be done.
Thank you for your music wherever you are Joe Walsh.
✌
Smoked a lot of doobies to this song. Back in the 80's
Wow. You're so cool.
These lyrics though! Happy birthday Joe! 🤔🎂🎸
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
Everyone has a confession to make. ; -)
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
this and life of illusion are my fav joe walsh songs.
He's definitely a true talent.
Man I love this song...been ages since I listened to it. Watched the Guitar Center with Joe Walsh on axslive the other night and it made me realize it's been too long since listening to his stuff. Back to the Confessor...loved this song so much at the time that I made sure I didn't miss the tour.
the great Joe Walsh the most amazing guitar riff I've ever ever ever heard sorry slash your good keep up with your two hour a day practices and maybe just maybe Joe will let you tune his guitar
I like Joe, but Slash can smoke his ass any day all day
@@anthonydavella8350 Hey man, I suggest you check out the '72 Turn To Stone live in Santa Monica I believe? You might just change your mind.
@@robertsnively7373 will do, thanks
@@robertsnively7373 curious, you play guitar? Let me just say I could play Walsh way before I could play November Rain. Thanks, I watched it
Deep, powerfull, psychedelic visually, lyrically, and in tune. Does it get any better?
fantastic imagery for an old vid,, one of his best in my opinion,, timeless classic
My ears were introduced to this in a striking way. No matter how many times I requested it on the radio I only heard it on rare occasions. Every three months or so I would take acid and tripball day and about 3 am it would play.Slowly I recognized the mighty song I didn't know the name of and it forever left its spooky and powerful impact on me. Hard to recognize at first then all was beautiful!
you cannot tell a lie, I must confess...this song rocks you...
Don't get much better than this. PERIOD.
One of those songs that when it came in radio, you cranked it gradually. Then when the Naked as the day you were born part kicked in, full volume
That's just plain ol' kick ass Rock & roll... thanks joe!
The Confessor deserves the same number of plays Stairway to Heaven gets.
gives me chills like I'm listening to God
By far Joe's BEST hard rock tune.
I used to love hearing this song when I was fried. Try it, you might like it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Teen years were so damn wonderful, loved those years in the 70's and 80's!
Great song
Brings me back to '83 or so drinking beers in my buddies (parents) garage.
An absolute CLASSIC!! 🤘
Such A great song !!!!
Whoa! This tune was my first guitar emotion. I was just starting to play, and they I saw this on TV. I jumped on paper and pencil to write JOE WALSH - CONFESSOR. This name never left me. Twenty years after, I decide to go a little further, and here is the link. Thanks ! (and now that I have a better guitaristic level, I think I will try to play it ;))
Don't know about u, but, remember the chill up r spine when u heard this 4 the first time ? AZ state Waliking to Work...
Love this tune!!!! ......"what you see is only on the surface......."
This is the BEST Joe ever wrote. I wish it was 1985 again.

I haven't heard this JW tune in many years as well. I rarely listen to the radio, and in between cd changes, I heard the long intro and it grabbed my attention....it struck me so hard...great lyrics and guitar work...what a classic rock tune!
2020 and this song still rocks. What you young bucks know about this?
