    A few bits:
    Brit here. Frank Bloke isn't a reference to anything I know of, the entire joke seemed to be "this is obviously a man".
    Flupping honk... bit of a stretch but in the Brit comics of the 90s, "honk" was associated with bad smells.
    You've probably noticed but if you destroy every speaker in a level, the BGM turns off and won't come back. Dan demands you do this in a desert level.
    The GBC port was surprisingly good. The jump from 3d to 2d was okay and I think it deemphasised the combat a bit.
    And finally, the PS1 port. Good luck finishing it. If you thought the input lag was bad in the Europe biome, try the vine swinging (which is where I gave up before I came close to vomiting). Also, it's WAY more buggy. I went from 150+ cores to less than NEGATIVE 100 after finishing a level.

    • @darthvaderreviews6926

      I'm not sure I agree.
      I haven't kept up with RDR2 but I have heard good things about it, and while I actually have more problems with GTA V than most (not a "GTA IV was better" kind of person, but I actually have other serious design complaints) it was a pretty good game overall, not just generally but also from an artistic perspective, Rockstar are pretty good storytellers and their satire is also solid.
      With that said, I despise their games' Online additions far more than most as well, they're shameless grindfests that are constantly getting worse with monetisation with practically every single update they get and one of the most extreme examples of microtransactions compromising gameplay enjoyment I've ever seen, to the extent that many F2P and mobile titles would look at GTA Online with disgust.
      However, I don't think that's necessarily indicative of an artistic quagmire or a probable crash (in fact, if 2K didn't have an investor's board to worry about they could easily pull a Valve and just survive off GTA Online's revenue for the next decade), both of those claims are pretty extaggerated.

    • @Volvagia1927
      @Volvagia1927 5 років тому +6

      @@darthvaderreviews6926 My guess on artistic quagmire and probable crash is less in line with Jim Sterling's problems with Microtransactions and more with Chris Franklin's problems with Grand Theft Auto/Rockstar in general. Just watch the Errant Signals on GTA IV, GTA V and Max Payne 3 and you'll see where I'm guessing the cause of Rockstar's crash will be.

    Since you mentioned it, I looked up this game in some leaked Nintendo spreadsheets that detailed revisions, and the game *did* actually have one (and it is floating around on the internet as Rev 1). All the spreadsheet says is that it fixed the expansion pack bug, but I guess there's the possibility that it could have fixed the trophy bug too.

    • @vysethegallant638

      The revision fixed the Expansion Pak issue, but not the trophy. Though there appears to be a way to bypass both issues by using the N64 Gameshark with the game, it's still unfortunate that these game-breaking bugs were never caught in the first place, as it's one of my favorite games for the console.

As far as I've seen, this is the only game that has this issue, and every copy of SSSV I've owned has it. Oh, and third party Expansion Paks don't work either. Only the original Jumper Pak.

    I'd never heard of this game but the creativity and imagination that went into making it are so obvious just from this video. Even artistically, you can tell that somebody had a really unique vision for a mesmerizing, compelling universe that really wasn't done justice by the graphical capabilities of the N64 (or the PS1). For that reason I'd love to see this game remastered. It could be absolutely beautiful; I want someone to do for this game what the reignitied Spyro games did for the first 3 Spyros.

    While I'm on the topic of second prints, there were a few on the DS. From what I remember, there's Bubble Bobble Forever, where the 30th boss didn't spawn; Harvest Moon DS, where they forgot to put Buckwheat Flour and the flagcheck for 30 animals killed and so you couldn't marry the two bachelorettes who happened to be immortal; and this one card battle game that I forget the name of, where one of the opponents can't be fought and freezes the game or something.

    The main issue for me is the character design. I would never pick up this game just because of the way the characters look. And I don't mean they're bad, they're just... uninteresting, kinda uninspired. The game itself is very creative and inspired, but the character design just lacks too much for me.
    Normal dog, normal sheep, I mean, they're robots! The cannon/wheels variations are kinda cool, but still undersold imo

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 5 років тому

      @DejaVoodooDoll Though this was because of the mechanics. The swapping mechanic and the relatively complex AI are really tough on the N64's processor. So to get those to work they downgraded the character models as much as they could. It's also why the PS1 version works so poorly. The game was already a real strain on the processor of the N64. For the PS1 who's processor only had a third the power and only had half the RAM to work with the game was just too much for it.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 5 років тому

      @DejaVoodooDoll From how they looked I figured they weren't full models but had a lot of sprites interlaced. Also none of those ideas you described really would have fitted.
      With those stylized ones I have some doubts about it. I mean would it really help if it's abundantly clear it's not what it seems. I mean if you are making it like origami but it's abundantly clear that it's not really that way and moves not anything like how such a piece could move is there really a point?
      If you have to suspend your disbelief anyway better go for things that are easier to recognize.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 5 років тому

      @DejaVoodooDoll I can't argue that. I however don't know if a more stylized approach would have worked. I never liked the ones that pretend to be stylized but where it's obvious that they are just low poly models. They should have just shelved the idea and waited for more powerful hardware. I do think the Dreamcast would have done fine.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 5 років тому

      @DejaVoodooDoll I didn't say they didn't have their charm. But to me low poly models look like low poly models. I feel it's the best when they kind of run with that idea like they did with Mario.
      With that second point I sort of disagree. Because then the focus shifts from what you can do to what you should do.

    You also have massive amounts of texture warping. The N64 had a Z-buffer and could stretch sprites itself but the PS1 could not so with the PS1 you had to carefully design textures to minimize texture warping.
    It's very clear here that they just converted the N64 version to the PS1 without any work to optimize it for that console.
