You Might Be Walking Right Over The GOLD.... (TIPS From a Beginner) Nokta Simplex Edition

  • Hey everybody! "How To Find Gold" was one of my top searches when I first got a Metal Detector. I still consider myself a beginner in the hobby of Metal Detecting (2-3 years) There is always so much to learn during the Treasure Hunting experience. I try to share some of the tips that helped me find my first gold, plus discover the true possibility of what could be under the dirt...
It doesn't matter what metal detector is used... gold can read similar to aluminum foil on just about all metal detectors, if you are discriminating out aluminum foil or pull tabs there is no doubt you are missing some gold.. but you are also saving yourself from digging a lot of trash! Is it worth it?
For me... that highly depends on how I am feeling that day and where I am hunting.
There are advanced users out there that have been using metal detectors for years and years.. I myself am just getting into the hunt recently around 2019. I always hear that "location" is the most important part.. which I truly believe! However.. even on the best beach in the world.. if you want all the gold the beach has to offer.. you've got to be willing to keep an open mind!
I Metal Detect mostly Parks and Beaches... Coins are fun to find and add up to a nice total eventually.. however for me the real excitement comes when you see that shimmer of gold in the sand. There's something about digging up a bunch of junk and then finally when you least expect it... BAM! Out comes some shiny GOLD from the dirt or sand to pay you back for all that junk you have been digging up.
    Have any other tips?

I have a secret to finding jewelry with a detector. Do NOT use a detector with VDI numbers at all. I have an old Whites Coin master pro that has no numbers and it is the one machine I almost always dig rings with because I am never worried about the number on the screen. That is why detectors that they call beep and digs like Tesoros were so good. Yes you will dig a lot more trash, BUT you will dig a lot more treasure too. If you aren't willing to dig the trash then you probably aren't in the right hobby.

Exactly. I can tell foil with a Tesoro Vaquero because of the soft edges. Analog talks once you develop an ear for it.

I like how you say Tips from a Beginner.
In the detecting world 2-3 years is considered a beginner, but I think the younger generation is changing that.
A person can learn a lot about detecting/detectors in 2-3 years

I found my first gold ring after watching one of your earlier videos. It depends where I'm at if I dig the iffy signals, in a tot lot or open field yes I will, I've found a lot of gold that way. If I'm around in a park around picnic tables I won't. Basically if it's in an area where there is a lot of foil or pull tabs I stop digging those signals.

Hey man! I'm getting my first detector, and it's the Simplex Ultra. I've tried to choke down a bunch of videos so I have some ideas before it arrives, but I have to choke down my own vomit while listening to them ramble. I love your style, and I've learned so much from this video of yours!

I have found 4 rings, 2 gold rings VDI's 22 and 42 and 2 silver rings VDI's 95 both. Yes, according to get gold rings you will need to dig 18 to 50 VDI's You just need to pay attention to the Tone sound, it should be very consistent, no pitch sound at all when you swing coil, this sound must be strong on the VDI. I dont know if I explained myself.

    Good morning.
Just watched the video, very informative.
Obviously the signals would be slight different dependent on the ground conditions, depth, wet/dry, position of the item in the ground ie on edge.
But the video definitely gives you the idea.
Just wondering how you are getting such stable id's? I run 2. 77 as I like how it works, but has always been very jumpy signals.
I've learnt not to read ID and just go off tones, but if there is a more stable download I may try it

At a beach, I dig most every signal….at a turn of the century trashy park, my goal is to pick thru the trash and dig the deeper, fainter higher vdi signals, in hopes of thee older coinage and silver jewelry. When I say “higher” vdi, I mean targets that start id’ing around a zinc penny (or Indian/early wheat penny when deeper). I do get some buffaloes and V nickels and the occasional gold ring when I want to dig nickel vdi signals, but you’ve already discovered that gold, based on its shape, size, and purity can vdi just about anywhere on a metal detector….

I'm kind of an ADHD detectorist. If I continue to search for the same thing I get bored. If I'm constantly looking for silver coins I get bored. I like a variety of stuff. When I first get to a new spot I seriously dig everything just to see what it is. Or sometimes I'll cherry pick all the high tones them go back again for the mid tones. Just depends on the day and how ambitious I'm feeling.
The deus 2 makes it allot more interesting. I can just about tell you what type of pull tab is coming up from what numbers lol. Like the big square ones that don't have a hole come up at 80 or the modern ones with the rounded edges come in at 64 65. Or the tail of the ring pulls come in at 58 59. Just the ring of the ring pull comes in around 61 just like nickels. Oh and there are the old ring pull bottle caps that come in at 63 lol. Yeah it's a fun game to play. But honestly I don't dig much in the foil range. But that's probably why I've only dug 1 gold ring in the 3 years I've been detecting.
