Thanks for watching. Glad to hear your visiting the UK, I'd recommend Chelmsford Ice Rink but thats a little outside London (in Essex) so traveling might be an issue. Besides that there is also Alexandra Palace ice rink in London who have a few sessions that you could join in on. Please join the website forum page if you require more info, more than happy to help.

Hi Mate, Cant help notice that you lace under and not lace over, this is something that causes extreme pressure on your foot. instead of lacing from the inside to the outside try from the outside to the inside, Go over the skate which pulls the skate over your foot if your inside to out it tightens the skate to your foot. Hope this makes sense to every one reading this.

also in the reebok line, skip the second eyelet from the top. You are correct that the lacelock causes an issue in that line. However, if you look at crosby or komarov, they both use this method. It gives you proper heel lock bu ensues that your ankle can actually move freely. Far too many skaters are simply using the rigidity of their boot to keep them up and are not using their edges. Skating is an artform which requires much education and studying.

Some manufacturers are cutting corners to make there skates lighter and look better. This often results in problems as I'm sure we can agree. I would recommend looking at another skate if your still having issues (I know how painful it can be). Have you considered Botas? I have just reviewed them and they are incredible value for money. Please post a message in my forum page at hockeytutorial. com if you'd like us to help you with your next pair of skates?

Try and play around with your laces until you find a happy medium, also check to see if the skates are the correct width and length. is this only in 1 skates or both ? ps if you''d like a fast response please post this question on the forum page at hockey tutorial. com we can look into your issue in more detail there

Elite Hockey has the gel pads that you attach to the inside of your tongue with Velcro and they really get rid of lace bit. I also only get lace bit on my left ankle and I have something similar to the Bunga lace bite pad for my left ankle in addition to the gel pad from Elite Hockey. The gel pad from EH is in the shape of an H and is adjustable so you can get it into the right position the first time.

EASIEST SOLUTION: Get a pair of ankle socks. Cut the toes off. Use them as your sleeves. Put a piece of foam in them and slide them up to your ankle. This stopped ALL my lace bite problems and any rubbing on the sides of my ankles

@Juvenilee, Your the man. Your videos are very thorough, and are explained extremely well.
Having lace bite issues with my RBK inline 7k's, mainly due to the lace-lock system. It's weird though, I only experience this issue on one skate, and have been for about a month now. This is probably due to having an inflamed area from the lace bite, and it getting worse trying to continue skating with the problem.
    Anyway, your videos are grand.

The best way to avoid lace bite is to get skates that fit properly. However, the best pads I’ve used are Silopos, like Bunga but cheaper. Only needed them a few times when I tried Superfeet.

Great video. I can't describe the pain I had last week from lace bite in my 20ks. I could not actually go on the ice. Iv got bunga ankle sleeves and they are great for overall protection, though needed something to combat the specific problem. G foam pads were good idea though did not stop the pain enough to skate. I am awaiting my new bunga lace bite pad so hopefully that will sort the issue out. Why can't they just make better tongues?

This is a great video. A couple options you might could add is elite hockey now has a gel bite pad similar to the first one in your video that supposedly has velcro on the back, havent tried it yet so don't know the thickness or effectiveness. Also CCM has a lace bite bad similar to the bunga lace bite pad. It looks thicker in pictures which im not sure would be better or worse. Also theres a video on youtube of an alternative lacing style (lacing over/under - over the side and then through the lace hole) which may help.
I've played hockey my whole life and reffed a lot, and just recently had my first case of lace bit. Whatever caused it, within the first period of a reffing game with no chance to retie my skates I had a bad case, though it may have been injured in a previous skate and wasn't painful until the next. Also, with no previous knowledge on the problem I may have contributed to it beyond the initial injury. The tendon on the top of my foot is pretty bruised and kind of has a knot, so obviously Ive been looking into solutions, other than staying off the ice. During the middle of playing and reffing season, thats nearly impossible, and being a player and ref I have some days or weekends of very high use.

  • @TheACostanza

These pads arent used to take away lace bite. They just prevent it before you get it. Using these pads will never fully take away lace bite because you already have a bad bruise there and any pressure to that area no matter the padding will still hurt. FYI

I'm still battling this and am at my wit's end. At this point, I'm convinced that it depends on the skate. I'm thinking about going with Graf skates because they're deeper and I've heard they fit much better. I never had a lace bite problem on older skates--I'm convinced this newer technology is really doing more damage than helping.

I just got Bauer Vapor x40 2013, has a soft tongue. But am facing lace bite on my left foot only, at the top of my foot where my ankles bend. The top lace are only causing this, there is no skin damage but the pain is on the veins, that is what i feel.
This skate does not have a hard tongue. Will 'A and R lace Bite Pad' help. As this will sit above the tongue of the skate.
Making the top area hard enough, so the lace does not dig in my foot.
    Any advice/suggestion. Please!

if you are in the right skate model for your foot shape, lace bite should NEVER be an issue. Lace bite comes from boot depth issues, meaning the instep depth is too shallow for your foot. If the instep depth is high enough for your foot, you will not get lacebite regardless of how you lace them. There are over 20 different lines of skates on the market and realistically only 1 or 2 will fit each person's foot properly. Its just a matter of going to someone who knows what they are doing to look at the person's foot and tell them which line of skates is for them.

I've been fighting lace bite for a couple of months now and its driving me nuts. I've just recently tried strips of an old mousepad between socks and it seems to help considerably. I've only had my skates (Supreme One.7s) for less than two years and I think its already time to replace the tongues. I didn't consider skate depth could be an issue, maybe i'll try taking out the inserts....

Great Videos man, just a quick question. My right skate always causes me problems. the pain is in the arch of my foot. I do not get lace bite. But plantar faciitis (i think thats what its called) is what i am getting. laces when tight are causing my arch to flatten which causes the pain. i have tried 3 different heel/arch inserts with no luck. only way the pain goes away is if i a loosen the skate in the mid section of the laces...but it doesnt feel good on the ice for inner and outer edge and overall control. Any Ideas?? my skates are Bauer Vapor X70's. But yeah...serious pain after 20 minutes ice time. and i cannot skate for 3-4 days afterwards.

OsceolaLongBeard It's always tricky without actually seeing the skates but you could try Superfeet if you haven't already. I'm sure you know your feet are never the same size (and or width). You have to use the process of elimination to see if its a size, arch support or width using. Superfeet (yellow inserts) are highly recommending for hockey skates.

NO DISRESPECT HOCKEY TUTORIAL but the best way to get rid of lace bite is cardboard. I know haha cardboard but try it. It relieved 100% of my pain. Put on your skate and wrap gaz around the cardboard and tape it so it stays then put the piece of cardboard in between the tongue and the front of your foot. obviously the cardboard size matters if its too big you'll look like a goon but if its too small it'll move around and not help. make sure the cardboard is bigger than the top of your foot but smaller than the tongue of the skate.
    Thanks

Duct tape. Try it. Right on the skin. Your sock will slide freely on the surface of the tape. You'll forget it's there. One or two layers to prevent blistering anywhere on the foot. Also works great over a bandage for existing blisters. For lace bite, use more layers to make a flexible pad any size or thickness you need. Shave the hair off first...

You should never get lace bite if your skates fit properly. This doesn't just mean the length and width of the skates, it means the depth. Do a search for the "pencil test" and never buy skates where you fail the pencil test in them. If you are wearing skates that are too shallow for your feet, sooner or later you will get lace bite.

    • @ThePapayaKing
      @ThePapayaKing 10 років тому

***** I didn't say you *will* never get lace bite (like a guarantee), I said you *should* never get it (likelihood). There are exceptions to every rule, but my point is that by FAR the single most contributing factor is people wearing skates that are too shallow for them. This video is not for NHL players; it's for regular people. The video doesn't address depth, and if your skates fit properly by depth, you should not get lacebite (unless perhaps you skate as often and as hard as an NHL player...). And if they *are* too shallow, you will likely get it sooner or later regardless of tying.

Great video! If this doesn't work try www.prosportprotection.com. We have created two new versions that help. We have one with a donut shaped gel pad that relieves the pressure on the injured spot. NHL teams love this one. We have another new one called the Soko Sleeve which was inspired by an NHL physical therapist. It has two gel strips that do the same thing as the donut. They run on either side of the painful area to relieve the tendons on the front of your foot from pressure. Good luck!!

Bauer had a supreme rollout that year... maybe the best "bang for your buck" but uhh you get what you pay for, maybe 2 seasons out of the 'boks if you're an ok skater but you'd be replacing those fairly quickly... if you're a good skater, with proper technique those would blow out too quick unfortunately.
To be fair I skate on Easton s9s that I bought new at the shop Dec. last year for like $30... Before that it was vapor XXs and duct tape as long as I could. I'm by no means a lover of new equipment, I'll keep mine as long as I can sew it together, but I'd never advise someone unless they were starting up to buy the pumps or any kind of expandable skate because they're just going to replace them too frequently.
