Thanks for the straightforward tips from the pros. Really liked Jacob Wheeler's tip about slack line allowing the bait to fall straight down instead of at an angled descent if you engage the spool! And Edwin Evers tip dragging the rod sideways with fluorocarbon line to allow for a good contact on the lake floor. I was surprising that each interviewed pro had so many differing opinions on their top 3 answers. I would have thought that one factor would have been constant among almost all of these skilled anglers.

Everyone seems to say keep it simple, then they list off ten qualifying reasons! 🙂

    • @anthonydangelo3929

If you think about it, it’s simple based on the time of year, day, and the environment you’ll be fishing in. 10 qualifying standards to generalize the entire concept of jig fishing meaning the entirety of the style. If it’s early spring and your fishing a lake or reservoir with lots of riffraff and rocks(smallie territory) then you will be better off with a 3/8 , football head, greenish colored jig. Small fall rate, proven to work best around rocks and solid cover, and the color matches the hatch. But this depends on time of year (speed of the fall/presentation), style/shape of jig so you can efficiently and effectively fish without and hang ups or snags etc, And water clarity /time of year for the correct color/kind of line. That’s an example for jig fishing early spring in a rocky pond/lake/reservoir. Now if it’s later in the year you want a Heavier jig for a faster fall and presentation. Let’s say it’s heavily matted with grass and lilys like it is here in Massachusetts, you’ll want a finesse or swim style jig with a heavy weed guard to avoid any snags or hang ups, and bc the water is warmer and the time of year means crawfish are naturally lighter and a orange/red color then you won’t want that mossy/pumpkin green color and you’ll try to stick with a more accurate color like ‘fire craw’ from zman . It’s simple if you know what to expect when your spending the day on the water but when speaking in a general way, there is alot to it. Try to think seasonal. Also if you already know all of this don’t mind I’ve been drinking and get excited to educate
