A few (more) minutes of fun - with embossed watercolour backgrounds

- In this series you can join me at the craft table once a week for a few minutes of art and craft creativity - between ten and twenty minutes usually. But sometimes a project needs a little MORE than just a few minutes... so in A Few (More) Minutes of Fun, you'll be invited along for a deeper dive into my creative process.
Today I'm playing with some embossing powder and watercolour paints, to create a quartet of backgrounds. I love this way of working in a series - I find it very playful and freeing. I hope you'll enjoy it too.

These backgrounds are gorgeous. I find the peel back of masking tape from watercolour backgrounds very satisfying and oft-times breathtaking 😍

I spent a lovely hour early this morning playing along. I used your Violets and your Rosemary stamp and now love it so much I don't want to cover any of it up. I'm still learning to let you of the backgrounds lol!
I've seen it - it's completely beautiful as it is! You can always play with some stuff over the top without gluing anything down... just to see (watch out for tomorrow's Few Minutes of Fun for suggestions). But there's really no need!

Oh, that's great to hear! Yes, stamping with Distress is no problem at all (as long as you don't get it wet afterwards)... and lots of colours to choose from too! So happy you had fun and enjoyed the results too.
Thank you for the tip of using Archival ink when embossing detailed stamps. I also love the Tim Holtz silhouette flower stamp you love. To me it says “summer meadow” in a stamp. 😊

Happy you found your way here - welcome! I'm not sure which other cards you mean, but mostly it's just a question of using other colours, according to what mood you are in, or what your favourite colours are. There are some cards there which use a different technique with gesso texture rather than embossing powder - and I'll be sharing that method some time soon - but I wouldn't describe them as darker, I think.

Many, many years ago (decades) I formed the opinion that I did NOT like watercolor.
It looked too messy, sloppy, indistinct.
"Not for me" said I.
You, my dear lady, have completely transformed my opinion!
I LOVE this! So soft and dreamy.🥰
But now I am trying hard to talk myself out of buying paints and brushes....do I really need to travel down yet another crafty avenue?🎨

When I began using embossing powder about 20+ years ago... I used my toaster! 😁🤣🥴 An expensive & awkward way to heat, but it's all I had. Appreciate my heat tool ❣️😘❤️
Oh, that is hilarious... I've seen people use their cars to run over a dry-embossing folder for the impression rather than use a die-cutting machine, but I've never come across using a toaster for heat-embossing. I can imagine having a heat tool is a treat after that!

Beautiful backgrounds, Alison. Thank you for sharing. Watching someone using embossing powder was what first got me hooked on paper crafting - it was so exciting! I love the way that watercolour backgrounds are never the same twice; similar, but not the same.

Very pretty. You can turn your discarded but partially stamped masking tape into diy washi type tape. Just keep stamping on it and gluing on pieces of napkin or printed tissue and voila! TFS
Thank you. Yes, I did exactly that for one of my recent stamp launch samples - used the tape exactly as it was to be the first step in a journal page. I do it very often, as I did in fact mention - but there's only so much you can fit into a few minutes of fun (and this was an extended edition already!!). Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Your comment happened to come at almost the same time as somebody saying they didn't need so much talking (although the talking is thing most people seem to enjoy!), so I think my mind was just running in that direction. I'm delighted you would like to spend even more time looking over my shoulder as I play! That's exactly what I did do in that video I shared the link for, and I'm sure it's something I will be doing again sometimes in the future.

@@w0rdsandp1cturesI did read other comments with what I interpreted as negative hints to my comment, which actually upset me a bit... but it's just so easy to misunderstand the intention sometimes. xxx PS: btw would you consider making a video on your favourite stamppads (colours, brands) etc? I'm building up my collection on Distress products, have all the normal inkpads and pens, but have yet to dive into the oxide line (only have one spray). But I personally get so much inspiration from watching videos with people's favourite tools and products... just a thought.
