It looks like snot. I probably would have just sewed it. Actually, I've got a laptop case I've let someone borrow that has some holes and tears in it. I can't sew it because it has many lawyers, so I'm just going to use some cellphone adhesive and glue some fabric in that spot.

You’re not wrong, but sewing mesh didn’t seem to work for me. The good news is that it has held perfectly for several trips since the repair.
