You know I have heard this song a million times, but nothing better than listening it with YOU, because you get it. It makes the experience so much better. yOU are very special to listen to this with us. Rock on . . .
They got to see a rough screener of the film from what I remember (that's been years ago so the memory's blur over time) and then there's this from wiki: Brian May was inspired to write "Who Wants to Live Forever" after watching the love scenes between Connor and his wife Heather, which the song ultimately accompanied on the film. Most of the songs for Highlander ended up on Queen's It's a Kind of Magic album.
The scene in the film 'Highlander', which this song comes from, is especially moving. Connor Macleod, a Scots Highlander warrior, who nearly died on a battlefield but miraculously recovered, is married and living happily with his wife, Heather. After the death of his mentor, Ramirez (played by Sean Connery), Macleod fully realizes what he is...an Immortal. That he is destined to stay young and virile as his beautiful wife ages and finally dies. After she dies, he buries her at their run-down castle, and her headstone is his sword, emblazoned with his last name, his Clan name...Macleod. He moves on, and in America, lives for hundreds of years...battling other Immortals who can only die if their heads are struck off of their bodies. Waiting for the time of The Gathering...when the few of the Immortals who remain will battle to the last, because in the end...there can be only one.
FeaturingRob Ramirez proves to him that he is immortal by taking him out to the middle of a lake and then throws him out of the boat. He couldn't swim so he sank to the bottom thinking that he's going to drown. After he realizes that he isn't drowning, he walks back to shore on the bottom of the lake and attempts to sneak up on Ramirez. It doesn't work. That's when he truly starts to learn about what it means to be immortal. Ramirez teaches him everything he knows about fighting and being an immortal. Ramirez dies trying to protect bonnie Heather but she is raped. She takes that burden to her grave after living a long life. He watched her grow old before his eyes and, when she died, buried his bonnie Heather next to his mentor Ramirez.
