Jamel, you should follow this reaction with Monserrat Caballe and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) singing bohemian Rapsody as a bow to Freddie mercury after he died.
Yeah you're completely right, he told her he had AIDS and not to kiss him because little was known about HIV at the time but she did. Absolutely beautiful together
She said his was the greatest voice she'd ever heard. High praise indeed from one of the most celebrated opera singers in the world. And he said the same of her. They really were a beautiful vocal match.
She was a legend in Spain and he was a big fan. Singing with her was one of the final items on his bucket list-- she was thrilled and he wrote a full album for her. This was meant for the Olympics Opening, but was recorded earlier-- sadly he knew he was not going to make it to 1992. Epic, right??!
Spanish soprano, Montserrat Caballe was an operatic diva of the first order. Dubbed "La Superba" (the superb one) by the Italian public, she had an international career in concert and opera that started in the 1960's. Freddy was always an opera fan and specifically a fan of hers. The collaboration with her on this duet he said was a *dream come true". She was a true fan of his as well and spoke so glowingly of the experience of working with him and how he was such a special person. They originally recorded this duet way before the Barcelona Olympic games in 1992 and Freddy did not live long enough to sing it at the games but a video recording was used during the opening ceremonies. Montserrat Caballe never officially retired and passed away in 2018 at the age of 85. May they both sing endless duets now in heaven.❤
Montserrat was a true Opera Diva. She and Freddie worked on a number of albums together. The fact that Freddie could hold his own against such a prodigously talented opera singer is simply amazing. In loosing Fredddie we lost one of the greatest entertainers, his stage craft was remarkable and his voice stupendous.

Watching you experience this song for the first time has brought me to tears. I'm a massive fan of Freddie and absolutely adore that song. It's so powerful.
Freddie is quoted as saying, when he first heard Montserrat Caballe sing, that he had heard the most beautiful voice in the world. It was the theme tune for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
They came best friends after this, she apparently wanted him to sing with her at the Olympics but he told her he wouldn't be here to see it ☹ she was the only one outside of Queen he'd talk to about his Illness
In 1999, the UEFA Champions League soccer final was played in Barcelona between Manchester United and Bayern Munich. In the pre-game ceremonies, Montserrat Caballe sang her part live, and a recording of Freddie played in the stadium. Many saw it as an omen that there would be some magic that night. Sure enough, there was... Bayern Munich led 1-0 after an early free kick goal, and looked to have the trophy wrapped up. Suddenly, in stoppage time right before the match ended, Manchester United scored the tying goal. Then, about two minutes later, still in stoppage time, United won a corner kick. David Beckham played the ball in, then a header was hit down. Having come in off the bench, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stuck out his foot, and as it turned out, he hit it just well enough for the ball to go into the top corner of the net past legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. The legendary call of "...And Solskjaer has won it!" still rings out in Manchester United lore. Sure enough, it was the winning goal. Bayern Munich players collapsed in disappointment when the ball went in, and the referee had to convince them to stand up. Manchester United became the first English team to win what was called a "treble" - winning the Premier League title, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League in the same season. Their main rival Manchester City did the same thing in 2023. Some argued that this song being performed gave "life" to United, which they used as fuel for their comeback.

Seriously, this man could sing and do it all. He loved all types of music. His favorites were rock and most definitely opera, I mean look at that epic combination with Bohemian Rhapsody. Sadly she passed in October 2018

Freddie adored opera, and as you say this was a perfect day for him (and my goodness he had some good days).
Peace, brother J.
Thanks again dear! Chills, chills, chills. Great reaction, beautiful performed by two angels. R.i.p. Freddie was so allround and diverse, a musician. And Montserrat was amazing, and she adored Freddie. I hope to see more Freddie or Queen along the way. Much love and bless to You ❤❤
Yes it was made the official Olympic song which took place in the summer of 1992, sadly Freddie had past away 7 months before it took place
How I hate that he is gone and her as well. What a loss, but what a gift to have had them in this world. Heavenly angelic choirs could not surpass this. I am crying!
It was through this song that I introduced my mum and dad - who were well into their 70's to Freddie. They simply adored him, and his and Queen's back catalogue thereafter, and became huge fans.
Love you, Freddie x
Freddie could sing anything and everything better than anyone else ever could.
The Opera is always part of Freddie. I have never seen this performance....marvelous!
This was beautiful, his vocal range was out of this world, he was a man of many wonderful talents.
Gave me chills! The way Freddie looks at her at 6:07, just beautiful :)
Tears every time so powerful .
No auto tune in heaven . the angels never had it so pure
Angel aid is going to be one heck of a concert ☺
And Barcelona is such a great city. Can't wait to be there again.
Not as great as was in the 90's. Polítics broke the People.
@@DavidGonzalezGarcia Really? Never been there in the 90s, only a few times during the last 10-15 years. What' going on in Barcelona?
@@jessijames3256 independentist crazy people.
He was and still is a Legend !!!Even now in 2022 it makes me sad that he passed far to early,he had still so much to give ...R.I.P Freddy and Montserrat aswell
When you said "goosebumps" near the beginning, I said "you just wait". I've always loved this song, it's amazing.
Think about this a moment ......Listen to the crowd...
they are on their feet giving a standing Ovation to one of the worlds leading Opera singers Monserrat ...and a legendary rock/ pop singer Freddie....
Never before in history has their been anyone like him...A man who is as comfortable, charismatic, and impeccable a performer as the front man for the greatest Rock band in the world...who wrote the greatest rock anthems of all time ....and then holds his own ,effortlessly, with a world class opera Diva . Not to mention he wrote the song Barcelona ! My god this guy was just beyond freaking talented..I cannot name ONE artist alive today who can hold a candle flame to Freddie.
Very well put!... We'll never see such a exceptional combination again in our lifetime!... may both R.I.P....G.O.A.T!!!
Theirs was a love story of admiration and mutual respect, one of the worlds greatest collaborations, truly epic in every way.
Yes, according to the Queen documentary Freddie always wanted to bring Opera and ballett to the masses.
The joy on your face throughout is amazing. Thank you for taking us on your journey of discovery.
Man... this is one of the greatestes song EVER!!!... I always have a goosebumps hearing this... also 28 year after this great Olypics Games in Barcelona, which Freddie unfortunately did not live to see. but he was thare too... even though he was no longer alive. All my respects to Freddie Mercury.
Bless him. Freddie was sick when he performed this. Freddie had a deep love, admiration, and respect for opera thus he created Bohemian Rhapsody.
Which is very much in the tradition of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Standing ovation all round !
As many times as I have listened to this, it gives me goose bumps EVERY time
Oh my God you played it!! I am so glad since I recommended it so many times. Montserrat is one if my favorite opera stars. It's pronounced just like it's written.
Finally! You’ve heard pure magic! No matter how many times I hear this song, it brings me to tears! Incredible! This has to be one of the best songs ever! Thank you for reacting to this song! ❤️☮️
Barcelona is a song written by Freddie Mercury, performed by Mercury and Montserrat Caballé. The song is also included in their music album Barcelona. It was the official anthem at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona Spain, following Freddie Mercury's death in 1991.
To those that gave a 'thumbs down'...you're wrong.
To those that gave a thumbs down...🖕
Just bieber fans have no taste
The one's that pressed "thumbs down" are just Jealous!
Jealous because some of us grew up watching & listening to these amazing Artists & 'they' missed out on them!
Musically deaf to opera perhaps.....
I can't bear thrash metal...its like having yer skull cracked open with a rusty chain saw.
Each to his own😍
@@Kernewik101 i love metal and i love this song, since the first day was published
Wow 🥰, ❤️ Freddie Mercury and Montsy,❤️
I always get chills, and clinch, and cry when I hear this! I miss Freddy !
watching this song always gets me in tears.........
Cabellá was such an amazing singer. Her performance of “O Mio Babbino Caro” is absolutely the best rendition of that song I’ve ever heard! Thanks for featuring her on your channel 🙏🏻
Written by Giacomo Puccini, cousin of my great grandfathet. Didn't know until I researched my adoptive parents. Nice find.
@@MrPooch1967 That’s awesome man! 👍🏻😄
sorry, a little correction, is Caballé, not Cabellá.
It's CABALLÉ. SHOW RESPECT, BITCH!
This performance was captivating. I always said that Freddie Mercury had the best voice in rock music and what a performer. The whole thing was magical......loved it❤️
Brings me to tears every time I see this. So powerful.
