Honestly the lt1 just sounds better to me. It has a more “classic” muscle car sound and the ls1 has a more higher pitch sound which isn’t bad but I just prefer the deeper sound of the lt1. That being said the after market community and the just all the ls engines that have been made over the years makes the ls1 just a better choice in terms of bang for your buck and potential to seriously up the ponies.
The LT1 is still mostly the second gen small block Chevy with a few upgrades. It is the old school block, and bottom end with the old firing order. The LS is different in every way and has a more balanced firing order
The LT1's burnout at 1:10 and the way it echoes off the building is legit one of the coolest car sounds I've ever heard, it sounds like a movie sound effect
As an lt1 guy I honestly think the ls1 sounds a tiny bit better but if you throw headers on both cars the sound of that lt1 would blow the ls1 out of the water. I got long tubes with a borla on my 95 lt1 and it sounds like it’s fully built other than the fact that there’s no chop at idle.
Well I own a 1997 Trans Am and a 2002 WS6 Trans Am. I think they both sound great. I also own a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 with a six speed. It doesn’t sound near as hearty as the Pontiacs. We lost when GM cut off Pontiac.
Both these cars were mine. Both stock and Both had 40K miles and were flawless. Sold Both the black ones. The 98 to someone is now a good buddy. The 02 pewter is what I own currently 2021. Thanks for sharing!
Pewter ftw!!! I’m On my 4th f body 3 Of them being SS models and my current is a pewter 99 SS and I love these cars but I have to admit that the lt1 does sounds pretty good especially with headers and full exhaust
I have the Magnaflow on my 95. Sounds good when you give her but not annoying when cruising on the highway. I’m thinking about adding SE LT headers this summer.
Stock for stock the LT1 sounds better in my opinion.. but of course you can obviously do exhaust mods to both and exhaust mods that make the LS1 sound far better than stock.
Lt1 with SLP factory mufflers have higher pitched roar at higher RPM. Where ls1 has a slightly deeper more relaxed tone at Higher RPM. All pre L's engine sound more raw since its a 1950s design compared to the more modern and smoother 90s designed L's engines. If you want that more raw higher pitched sound just slap a big cam in it. Like at least 550 lift intake/550 exhaust where your still street manners and daily driver.
I have both and the 96 Formula has a throatier sound while the 98TA had a cackling sound...until I replaced the hydrolocked LS1 with a HCI 5.3 and full 3" SLP loudmouth system and long tubes, and solid motor mounts, now it scares the bejesus out of people if they arent ready for it lol
I had a 2000 z28 a 2002 triple black convertible SS I now have a 96 Camaro SS SLP and the 96 really feels faster than both of those 2000s cars looks better sounds better. I don't know what they did to these 96 SLP CARS BUT THERE WELL OVER 315 HP/
So interesting. I had a 95 formula. My 97 WS6 was an animal compared to it. My 02 does feel faster. The low end torq on the LT1 engine is unbeatable. 0 to 60 was killer.
Hate to admit it but the lt1 does sound better. Tad bit more aggressive. I currently own a 02 ws6 convertible all stock. Not sure how long I'm gonna stay stock w 88,000 on the clock.
Ya, for the LT1 this is the WS6 stock hood that also comes with the Firehawks of the same years. My actual favorite look is the formula version with this hood which most Firehawks are.

@@viking3487 well yeah that’s true it would be totally fun especially riding on dirt and ice 🧊 lol 😂 🤷🏿💯💯
I love my honeycombs, but those grid lights are unreal

Good catch. The building wall echo was great at that location indeed.
I've owned an ls1 for 7 years now. I'll always be team ls1 but I do love a nice sound lt1 as well! I love them both.

Two great looking cars with legendary power plants under the hood

I wish I had the room to have kept both. 97 and 02 are my favorite years. Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting. I usually prefer the sound of the LT1, but in this video the LS1 has a more pleasant bass-ier tone.
LT1 fan myself.
The Magnaflow MagnaPack would be nice and loud but also deep tone too.
LT1 all day
I’ve got an LT1 and LS7. Love them both.
Stock for stock LT1 sounds better imo Nice Trans Am's!
Really good comparison video. Good work
Lt1 with no muffler has a nice chop when cruising
Yes it does.
You guys rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are doing the brand proud!!!! 👍👍👍
The LS1 sounds so much better
Had both and I prefer the Ls1. Good video comparing both. Nothing wrong with owning either one

@@TheBassking86 agreed. LT1 definitely have a great sound!
Gotta say that I think a magnaflow muffler sounds the best on the lt1’s. Not too loud either
Yes, you are right.
Yea I got magnaflows on mine lt1 but I want mine louder. I might get loudmouth
I have the Magnaflow on my 95. Sounds good when you give her but not annoying when cruising on the highway. I’m thinking about adding SE LT headers this summer.
I'm a fan of the LT1 with headers, low flow cat, and open Borla.

Two beautiful rides absolute love both but theres just something about the LT1 cars.
As someone who doesn't know which is which I can say the one on the right at the beginning I like the sound more 😅
That would be the LS1 engine.
How do you like the SLP loudmouth? 1 or 2? How do you like the tips?
@@bigjohnharvey I love it its a 2 there is a video on my channel of a cold start
@@bigjohnharvey the tips tell people somethings going on here lol
Both beautiful cars
Ls is smother rumble and the lt1 is a more raw sound
Absolutely
idky but the lt sounds better in this video for some reason 🤷🏾♂️ cause its first and second rev more aggressive…
Lt1 all the way mine sounds awesome with long tubes and magnaflow exhaust no cats
Sounds great!
As legendary as rhat LS1 is, that LT1 gets the win for beat sounds

LT1, long tubes and a Magnaflow catback, without the cats is best!
Absolutely
I modified an LS1 Borla Catback to fit my LT1 and it is AWESOME. Go watch my exhaust video and let me know what you think. 🙂
I'll check it out!
I always thought the LT1 sounded better too.
LT1 has the old firing order and the old 350 bottom end that sounds great. Too bad it's not as efficient as the LS firing order
And the LS has a 15 degree valve angle compared to 23 degrees if I'm not mistaken in the LT1.
I'll take either one
Y’all serious the ls1 is the better sounding one
I love my 02 LS but my LT1 sounds way more hotrod
Factory exhaust LS1 is a little better, but aftermarket really makes a difference on the LT1, I have a Corsa on my LT1 and sounds amazing
Hate to admit it but the lt1 does sound better. Tad bit more aggressive. I currently own a 02 ws6 convertible all stock. Not sure how long I'm gonna stay stock w 88,000 on the clock.
I had a 95 Formula. Loved it. My 97 WS6 was a low tourqe beast.
My lt1 with flow masters sound pretty good to me.
LT1 definitely has a tougher sound
LT1 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Doubling down on the LT1
Hard to choose
I have the same LT1 v8 manual transmission
That's 1 car on my list. I can only imagine a stick with that awesome low end LT1 torque!!
I didnt know these body styles came withe the lt1s, I know that I like the 4 scoop trans ams
Ya, for the LT1 this is the WS6 stock hood that also comes with the Firehawks of the same years. My actual favorite look is the formula version with this hood which most Firehawks are.
I don’t like the one with the weird pop up headlights and doesnt have the quad scoop
Does anyone know if the same body kit parts for a ls1/ws6 fit on the lt1 as well?
What kind of kit?

Up to 5500 the LT1 will run just as strong.
Absolutely
Can’t lose either way, but the LT sounds better to me. I have both, but the LT just has that muscle car sound. And the LT bodywork is much nicer.
Is the Lt1 and the LS1 Same c i d?
Yes, both are 350's
put my 96 ss Camaro lt1 slp exhaust up kill both of these

All GM exhaust sounds chincy, Ford got it right
