    I've been riding for about 18 years, and I'm generally comfortable up to double black runs. I watched your video and saw my own habits in the counter-rotating section, especially when the run gets steep. I never really felt comfortable on my toe edge on steep runs, and only went there briefly before retreating to the safety of my heel edge. Today I put two and two together after watching your video and I tried committing to turning my hips around when on my toe edge. All of a sudden I have much more control and I'm having way more fun. Thank you! That was exactly what I needed.

    I find this kind of video more thrilling than those "GO BIG" GoPro videos or pro videos, because its very relatable and honestly the joy of snowboarding for the average rider is connecting with the board on the slopes. It's a feeling of control and enjoying the mountain that makes snowboard so fun! And the progression comes not in doing massive tricks or having the coolest run, but in mastering each step. Most people can get into snowboarding if they learn these basics!

    Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations.My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.

    Getting back into snowboarding after a few years off. After watching video of myself I definitely counter rotate. In my video, the root cause seems to be the fact I'm trying to keep my eye's downhill when I'm toe side, which is keeping my upper body from following my lower body. Also, taking wide turns on a busy slope feels like a death sentence. I'll be keeping these tips in mind on my next trip.

    Thank you guys! I Last night I was frustrated with my inability to link my turns confidently, so I popped up UA-cam and watched your videos. I just tried these techniques today, and it has really helped me a lot; having the upper body in line with my board, and then “sitting” into the shins of boots, makes a world of a difference. Fantastic tips here !

    Haven't read all the comments but there are great tips in this video. One tip I picked up long time ago that will share was from a pro rider Jamie Lynn in a snowboard mag article. Still go back to it when I find myself getting sloppy when tired or hitting 50mph+ to keep everything stable. Keep arms closer to your body and even freely touching the body position the entire time, left arm outside of torso (left forearm is on left hip) and right arm where your hand would make contact with right pocket opening area. This is for regular binding setup where left foot is in front and if goofy or switch do the mirror opposite.
    Torso straight and knees bent as in the video. Also don't forget to stay like an upside down T on the board when the terrain gets steeper and you lean more forward as steeper it gets. Natural instinct is to lean back which causes off-balance and then a fall.
    When turning, don't initiate it by throwing the board around but try to start fluid motion from hips, upper legs, knees, lower leg and push out to feet the outside or inside depending on turning heel side or toe side.

  • @michaelzarate3832
    @michaelzarate3832 6 років тому

    I used to teach snowboarding way back. My first tip to everyone learning how to ride focuses on your stance: wide, duck and heavy forward lean. The wider your stance the more control you have over the tip and tail of your board increasing ease of turn in and helps with learning how to torsionally flex the board. Duck stance further helps edge control and helps with those moments where you need to ride switch. Heavy forward lean in the highback adjustment, this is my personal favorite. As it does a bunch of things. First, it FORCES a bent knee position! No more awkward straight leg bent over nonsense. Second, it lowers your center of gravity. Third even further enhances the ability to turn. Simply standing all the way up starts a heel turn while rocking forward on your toes easily initiates a toe side turn. Plus you can practice the movement at home!

As I improved thanks to these videos I became to ignorant that I'm still a baginner and Road faster, catched heel edge and dislocated my shoulder. I've snowboarded a total of 4 times. I can ride switch naturally which is nice but I'm not good at heel side turns on both switch and regular. I feel like most people have trouble learning toe side turns and stopping but are good on heel side when toe side is comfortable for me but heel is not . Another really big thing for me is transitioning from toe side back to heel side. I often do a bunch of switching downhill. So instead of doing a turn, I just toe side 180 to switch and ride for a little and when I need to turn I toe side 180 back. I'm going to focus on heel side turns and stopping until I become more comfortable with them.
    I've done black diamond runs and I can do them for the most part but I get so tired because I'm on my toes the entire time down due to trying to not go too fast. I really want to be able to go on heel side so I can alternate my muscle usage so I don't just get worn out every run.

  • @GrReaIm
    @GrReaIm 5 років тому

    I prefer counter rotation for toe edge speed control/stops on steep slopes. Sometimes during the transition from heel to toe your shins can sometimes leave the front of the boot reducing force applied to the board making you fall forward. With a counter rotation it’s a quick snap and you can slow down or stop.

    • @bobskier4274
      @bobskier4274 5 років тому

      Counter rotation is what you know. As you learn this turn, it will get easier and easier. And this turn will work on the steep and deep, where the kick your tail around turns completely fall apart. If you learn this new technique, you will be a much happier rider in the future, and much more capable of making every turn when you need it.

    Real nice tutorial! Touches most of the points. However, I slightly disagree with you on the hip centralisation. For beginner snowboarders, I would advise to put some weight on their front foot to steer in a corner (while obviously not throwing out their back foot) and thus moving their hips towards above their front foot. During traverse, hips should then be centralised to control your board (as you said). Later in the process, the snowboarder will have learned how much to shift their hips towards above their front foot and back to the middle during the corner/travers/corner/travers/... And ultimately he/she can move better to the continuous corner thingy.
    Please prove me wrong if I am!? Thank you!

    My first season I rode well into the mushy spring (done two seasons so far). I loved thrashing the mushy moguls.
    Of course there's no way to use your boards radius in really tight mogul crap, and it feels well fun to just get on the tail and slash it.
    Buying a cool bean just amplified that.

    I wouldnt consider myself a pro rider, but at least an expert rider and im not sure if I agree 100% with the hip turning, not every run will be perfectly smooth where you can make big carves across the run, hip turning is useful for sharp movements when you need to avoid some obstacle

    Carving, tricks, turns----but no one teaches the fine nuances of how to move largely in a straight line WITHOUT CATCHING AN EDGE. It's easy to do this by bringing the back around to slow or to keep the leading edge up---but that can easily leave a new boarder moving too slow to get by a flatter area. A tutorial for moving through shallow turns/edges for cat runs, etc. is needed.
