I had no lessons and basically threw myself into snowboarding, watched other people copying what they did, just learning as I went along............. I wish I'd had lessons like this.
Yeah, I learned 30 years ago and nobody knew what they were doing lol... Equipment was trash too, I was wearing hunting boots. My first run I just pointed it. I went along fine until I picked up a scary amount of speed and tried to turn heelside, at which point I caught my toe edge and scorpioned onto my face. Blood and everything. I decided turning was too dangerous so I just straight-lined it the rest of the way to the bottom at which point I realized I didn't know how to stop, so I just bailed out at. I pretty much did that all day. I have never been more sore than I was the next morning. Took me about two or three more trips before I could turn both ways and stop fairly consistently. It was a battle.
Dude my girl was like.. haha let's go snowboarding. We got to a mountain, rode to the top on rentals, and just went downhill. Scariest hill I've done. I thought I was going 50mph. Turns out it wasn't that bad. But I was freaking out on the inside.
I can honestly tell anyone watching that I learned snowboarding this season by watching this series, all six parts, without a coach. It was probably the most fun I ever had on the slopes and now I can confidently call myself an intermediate snowboarder. I can now carve well, do ollies, and consistently complete terrain parks without wiping out. For anyone out there hesitating to try out this sport, I ask to you to give it a try. Yes, your first time is going to be rough. Your ass will hurt. But it'll be worth it in the end. Lots of thanks to Snowboard Addiction for helping me out
Wooo can’t wait man just moved to Pendleton oregon gree uo in Mississippi taking trips to Florida during rain storms to surf the big swells but all that being said can’t wait to snowboard for my first time man I’m excited
I couldn't have found a more accurate comment. It's exactly what I was meaning. I also watched all the 6 parts just before trying to snowboard for the first time, and I was surprised how good I was just by watching those videos and without any coach. Last winter I only snowboarded for 4 half-days and I was good enough to do most of the slopes with confidence. The most usefull tip I learned on those videos was to put a lot of your weight on your front foot. Without this tips you will just fall every time, mostly when you'll try to do a toes side turn. As soon as you're remembing that you're falling because your weight is on your back foot, you just have to put your weight on your front one and you'll be much better and stop falling that often. In fact, that's counter intuitive but it's the BEST TIP EVER you could learn to start snowboarding. Thanks a lot for those videos that are really great and helpful !
These videos are so good because he’s teaching someone who hasn’t snowboarded before, the instructors make it look so easy, and the guy he’s teaching makes common mistakes so it’s easy to learn from him. Thank you,
This is exactly what I want in someone teaching me. No nonsense, no molly coddling or anything. Noticing every little thing I do and explain why I shouldn't/ should do it and what happens when I do / don't. Brilliant!

Im 35 years old and have always been thinking snowboarding looked so much fun and cool! About two weeks ago, my sister invited me to go to a cabin with her and her family to spend some time with them. They rented me a snowboard (i've never ever been riding one, but i've been into skateboarding when i was younger, quit when i was about 17) and it was the most fun i've had in years. Took me just a few hours to get it down. I was there for two days and i learned alot by myself and i love it! Im about to buy myself a board and start having fun in the winter! The best part is, in a month, im going back there and will be riding the snowboard again! :D
My first day was me renting a snowboard, figured out how to straps in one foot myself, survived getting on and off the lift on bunny hills, took monumental effort to stand upright for a few seconds without falling, then stumbling downhill on the board destroying my butt, back, wrists and forearms along the way thinking “just go for it”. I finished the day with several ibuprofens. I wish my first day was like this video...

I m 27 years old and I just started to learn snowboard, we´ve been not very rich so I did not even have the opportunity to learn skiing but I was always tempted towards snowboard. Now I am at 27 learning it and it feels a lil bit embarassing falling down and learning meanwhile there are kids going downhill like pros. However, I love it so far, my sister now got me a snowboard since she knew I was borrowing them until I learn but I have the perfect motivation now since I got my own gear now and I can focus to learn on my own board. THIS SERIES FIXED MY SNOWBOARDING!!! This method of taking a real beginner and teaching them is very helpful and effective. I was struggling changing edges and turning, and I got lessons about toe and heel edge position, but wasn't told about opening/closing shoulders/hips/knees. And I was told to point downhill and then change edges which isn't technically correct. You can change edges when your board is pointing in the direction you're traveling, and you slowly engage your next edge at 12 o'clock like you mentioned. Now, I balance over my board, squat a little for heel edge, push my shins down for toe edge, and lock in my edge. To turn the board, you just slightly open or close your shoulders/knees, the further closed the sharper the turn. I see all of this in your videos, and finally put it to practice today. Had my best day snowboarding yet, and finally feel like I can call myself a snowboarder. You're lessons are working and helped a newbie like me become excited for next season. Thanks, and keep it up! Ps. I subbed because of this beginner series 🙂

This is by far the best video on UA-cam on learning how to snowboard 🙌🏼. I wish this was out back when I started. Definitely will recommend it to every person I know who is starting to snowboard.
I started today. Watched this video 1 week before and already knew the basics. Today I spent 1 hour just to get used to stuff before 12:00 and now that I am rewatching it, it makes me happy you said beginners might spend 3 hours for that. I though I was too slow and now I am confident I am doing it right, step-by-step. Thank you for making such a good and a life-saver video!
This is the perfect video for me! I'm a surfer, skateboarder and wakeboarder. I tried snowboarding on my own, thinking, "how much different can it be?" Well, it was different. Seeing Tim making the exact same moves and mistakes I did makes me feel much better! Thank you so much for posting these videos! I'm off to watch lesson 2. I think these are going to help me a lot. Thanks again.
Same my friend said it’s the same thing as surfing lmao first time snowboarding I was coming down the mountain hot and ended up eating it hard my first 180 double front flips maybe some side flips straight to myself. First time is always fun
Thank you Nev for those great lessons. I went on my first ride last weekend and practice every exercice you teach. I went slowly but surely and by the end of the day I was able to do my very first turns. What a day it was, thanks to you. I'm extremely grateful.
I’ve been instructing for For seven years total after a year two of instructing I took my first Aasi level one in northern NY , I just took it again in Michigan where I’m from. I’m looking for my level two this year. I absolutely dig /appreciate this video! It literally is all /most of what I teach. However, now if it’s a private lesson, and they (skate, surf, wakeboard) I’m going to strap them right in and do board movement on flats to affiliate their known comfort to the new un known terrain. I approved his video! And thanks for making it!
Finally snowboarded for the first time with my ten years of skating experience and this video series. I knew it’d be harder than I thought but not WAY harder than I thought. Still very fun, and didn’t have any nasty falls yet. Gliding across the snow is just stellar
This was such a great lesson. Love the way you set him up with good flat ground habits before even going down the mtn. P.S. I'll never understand riders who push with their leg in front of their board.
I still find (after 32 years of snowboarding) pushing with my foot in front of the board is more natural for me. Behind still and always will seem like the weird option to me! Teaching my 3 boys tomorrow, we will see what they prefer, probably behind the board and they like to do the opposite of what I say
Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations. My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.
I love your channel, I have been binge watching in preparation for this season since it's been years since I've boarded(miss the Swiss alps). One of the most knowledgeable and approachable teachers out there! Keep up the awesome work!
I’m so excited for winter coming around I’ve only been snowboarding one time and decided to buy all the gear this year to go. Definitely have a lot to learn thanks for this 🙏😂
Thank you guys, this is how I learned to avoid constantly falling from the snowboard. I'd call your video, exercise number 1 at minute 14:30, or ground zero starting point. I followed your video advice on a relatively flat surface until it kicked in... I never fell to the ground again unless I wanted to seat down in the snow. When I started I'd do like everyone trying to let the board go free and then hit hard the ground (rookie mistake)... Then I thought about a car analogy, what do you do to learn to drive a car... The first action is to learn to break... or break control. So I found your video and at minute 14:30 help me to learn break control... or stop without falling to the ground. 🙏🤝👊
That is a great question to ask Nev. He could give you a far better answer than I could. He does a live session every week on ADDICTION+ and can discuss this directly with you. Also if you have a video of you riding send it to us and he will look at it on Sunday and give you real-time feedback.
Wow for so many years i've brainlessly strapped toes first. Makes so much sense to stabilize your legs before feets. I thought i knew everything beginner but I see there are still things to learn, thanks!
19:00 on the curl toe question. I’ve noticed it’s probably wanting to gain control of that edge. If you run into someone else like this, Have him bend his knees and it’ll transfer his weight more into the snow and bring his hips onto the board and into mountain. Hope this made sense.
One tip that may help someone that I wish I had known when I was first learning was to make sure your boots are put on properly. I tied up my boots like walking shoes that turned out to be a big mistake. I had no control over the board, in the video you can see the beginner and his board slide out when he was applying pressure at 18:35. That's a symptom of the boots being too loose. Lace up the boots so they are tight (not to the point where you lose circulation) because you don't want your feet to be lifting out of the boot. It will give you better control of the board.
My first true day of snowboarding was at Winter Park in Colorado, I took a group lesson on New Year's Day and my guide was a 19 year old who told me he'd tripped on acid the night before. He was so hungover he nearly puked off the lift while I rode up with him. Did I mention this lesson was $200?? Waste of time and money, I learned almost nothing my boyfriend couldn't have just taught me himself. I wish it had been more like this! I was never instructed to shift/put pressure on my feet differently inside the boots, so I just Hail Mary-ing down the mountain full speed with no control and kept wiping out to the point where I could barely move the next day for how sore my quads were..
in my 8 yrs in canada, just twice went to snowboarding i didnt really learn, lol. This next winter I'll get my own snowboard and try to force it a little, looks fun :)
Always have to start with the basics, even if you don't want to. Well done!! Pro Tip (form a non-pro): wear volleyball knee pads and cycling shorts to help cushion you knees and bum whilst falling 👌hehe
Dude those early catches like that where you're toe side and lean on your heels too much are the worst. Would've cracked my head right open a few times without a helmet.
@@jeffbrownme2 😂😭 so true man, my first time snowboarding I just threw myself into and learned from trial and error and those toe and heel edge catches had me flying down the hill leading to an eventual head smash. Thank god for helmets.
For that part of foot before or after the board. When you have a new acl in not leading leg the option for after the board is much worse (side to side movement) than before (front to back movement) despite it seems less natural.
This is great because I too have skateboarded all my life but going snowboarding tomorrow for the first time! Only thing is I push mongo so i always push behind the board with my front foot. Will it work? Stay tuned lol.
@@SnowboardAddiction all your advice worked thanks! Was able to do the green and then the blue long ones too. Not ready for black diamonds yet lol. Thanks! Subscribed!
Nice tips for basics! Thanks...and before I forget, I got the MDX ONE for my 3 yrs, we used it today and it works as you demoed in one of your other videos with your son.
I've been snowboarding 6 years, and have never got use to pushing with my leg behind the board, I have always known its the correct way, I've just never come to terms with it🤣but great video man, im loving watching you on Instagram aswell
I struggled with it at first. Its unusual but in terms of body motion think of lunging like you normally would instead of thinking side to side. I know it really helped my traversing skills when I nailed it down.
That's awsome. I would like to learn but I've never being in the snow ❄️ 🙃 I'm tropical beach 🤣 But just watching this I got the idea... just the idea 😁
Yesss!!! I'm asking they same question what Tim asked, are you supposed to curl your toes when doing toe side?! I mean, I put alil bit of weight on my sheen & upper leg, but I do curl my toes as well. Bc that's what I've been doing the whole time. Please clarify.
I have never once in my 15 years strapped in my heel first. I always have done toe so I can kick heel into back of binding and buckle tow in tight to push heel in cup
Im watching this because even though I have snowboarded for like 5-7 years (I am 14) I started young so fear held me back. I just recently got better and was able to carve on both edges, and then I got cocky and broke my shoulder. that increased my fear. Then on the next trip I broke my wrist on my first run of the day. then covid, so I havent snowbarded in a while. I cannot wait to get back into it though, and Im going to do my best to not let fear hold me back. wish me luck I am finally going in around a week.
@@user-rk3me2qk6r ok it went decently, I discovered that due to the injuries I did lose a lot of progression but next time I go I’m going to take lessons.
I've never learned to snowboard but with recent health issues it's not looking good for me so my husband is taking me out to finally learn, I'm 37 and I'm scared out of my mind lol thank you for this video maybe I'll learn something before goin to the hill 😂
I like that they had a beginner in the video learning how to snowboard. It's difficult to get a grip on the instructors lesson if it's only the instructor all the time.
I had no lessons and basically threw myself into snowboarding, watched other people copying what they did, just learning as I went along............. I wish I'd had lessons like this.

Glad we could help!!! Keep at it💪
He is doing so well and he is an excellent instructor - really clear instructions.
This is the best starter kit you could find on youtube. Thanks!
Thank you Nev for those great lessons. I went on my first ride last weekend and practice every exercice you teach. I went slowly but surely and by the end of the day I was able to do my very first turns. What a day it was, thanks to you. I'm extremely grateful.
First time and it helps more than my instructors in real life.
Im going snowboarding in december and these videos are VERY helpful
I’m home from the first day of snowboarding. I haven’t died, but expect to fall many many times
Dude I cant give direction to board I dont know why
Im about to shred on a skateboard for the first time on monday. But i ice skate so this should be a breeze 😂
Just got back from my first trip as well. I must’ve fell at least 50 times
I skateboard and thought it would be easy for me to shred the powder but that shit is not the same beast
@@evanvargas3170 bro not in the slightest . The heel toe factor hits different
Only thing I would’ve added before doing anything on the board is explain some basic safety things. Fists save wrists, yo!
They like to do the opposite of what you say 😂😂
I agree, it looks odd
That is the best beginner lesson I've seen... I wish I watched this before teaching my kids. You got a sub from me...
That's awesome!
Thats awsone way of teaching , love it .
Definitely have a lot to learn thanks for this 🙏😂
Been watching these videos and I'm super excited to give snowboarding a try in 2 weeks time.
Going snowboarding for the first time up in Mount Snow, Vermont this weekend! Definitely needed this as a prelude!
Hope you enjoy it!
I wish I had found this video before falling a lot last month 🤣🤣 I've never seen anyone explain it so well and in so detail. Thank you 😊
I feel you 😂
I went yesterday as a first timer and my bum sore af from falling so much
@Bunny Man the struggle is real... I keep falling on my knees tho 😓
@@2005siu We gone get it down pact though for sure. We going pro 2025😂😂
So get the best knee pad you can find n meet me on the black diamond 🙃
I haven’t gone snowboarding for Years now, I want to get back into it now, so hopefully these videos will help me refresh my memory
Wow for so many years i've brainlessly strapped toes first. Makes so much sense to stabilize your legs before feets. I thought i knew everything beginner but I see there are still things to learn, thanks!
Thanks so much for your beginner lesson series! I learned snowboarding in a couple days due to your teaching!
Great to hear!
19:00 on the curl toe question. I’ve noticed it’s probably wanting to gain control of that edge. If you run into someone else like this, Have him bend his knees and it’ll transfer his weight more into the snow and bring his hips onto the board and into mountain. Hope this made sense.
Can Tim make his own UA-cam channel and track his progress with videos. Because I want to watch this guy get really good at snowboarding
Soon I’ll be snowboarding for the first time. Binge watching your videos til then.
Dang, I'm impressed with Tim! Makes it seem effortless to learn.
Nev!Hello from Russia!Hope somethimes I meet you on slope for highfive! Thanks for your work at this channel!
My young nephews want to learn how to snowboard. While this gets them more motivated, I made it clear that they will first take lessons in person.
Really good I had the same coaching the first day am a surfer too it feels wired little bit
Bro! This is really helpful because I can see the exactly same mistakes that I make but from another perspective!
Been snowboarding for decades now and I've never put my feet behind the board walking around :D
Interesting to see how other people do it
learning this year........appreciate this video man
My first true day of snowboarding was at Winter Park in Colorado, I took a group lesson on New Year's Day and my guide was a 19 year old who told me he'd tripped on acid the night before.
I love snowboarding!
First day I was in snowboarding lesson and almost broke my tailbone. Wish I had this guy as instructor.
in my 8 yrs in canada, just twice went to snowboarding i didnt really learn, lol. This next winter I'll get my own snowboard and try to force it a little, looks fun :)
I already know my first day won’t be this smooth, but I’ll try to remember as much as I can from this , lol
I am going snowboarding 🏂 on this week’s Wednesday morning
Your videos really helped me thank you for the useful information you provide to the new snowboarders
Always have to start with the basics, even if you don't want to. Well done!! Pro Tip (form a non-pro): wear volleyball knee pads and cycling shorts to help cushion you knees and bum whilst falling 👌hehe
Better first time snowboarder than most I've seen.
I went for my first time and learned everything he's talking about on my own wish I would have watched this first
from italy, thanks for this video !
man I wish I had Nev as a coach when I first started snowboarding. best coach there is
"lets keep our assshhhhh, lets keep our bum dry" hahaha. Love this channel awesome video.
16:39 I was clenching ready for that edge catch 😂😂
Dude those early catches like that where you're toe side and lean on your heels too much are the worst. Would've cracked my head right open a few times without a helmet.
@@jeffbrownme2 😂😭 so true man, my first time snowboarding I just threw myself into and learned from trial and error and those toe and heel edge catches had me flying down the hill leading to an eventual head smash. Thank god for helmets.
For that part of foot before or after the board. When you have a new acl in not leading leg the option for after the board is much worse (side to side movement) than before (front to back movement) despite it seems less natural.
Wish i had this kinda hill its loooking amazing for beginners
This is great because I too have skateboarded all my life but going snowboarding tomorrow for the first time! Only thing is I push mongo so i always push behind the board with my front foot. Will it work? Stay tuned lol.
Let us know!
@@SnowboardAddiction all your advice worked thanks! Was able to do the green and then the blue long ones too. Not ready for black diamonds yet lol. Thanks! Subscribed!
Best Coach ever
I had my 3rd lesson today for 2 hrs and finally no falls and i was able to execute what my instruct taught me 🎉 I went home so contented! 😂
That is awesome!
Wish I had these lessons when I started boarding
He's such a good instructor
Just bought my boots, assembling the rest of my gear with the help of the peeps over at Evo, looking forward to falling!
I cannot wait to get back into it though, and Im going to do my best to not let fear hold me back. wish me luck I am finally going in around a week.
gl man
@@user-rk3me2qk6r ok it went decently, I discovered that due to the injuries I did lose a lot of progression but next time I go I’m going to take lessons.
@@crumpledpaper8897 i went today and it was fun haha
Nice bro 👍
Hope you healed up and had a good season . Still heaps of time to get good ! I'm starting at 26 lol
Push front is what I do and is personal preference my man.
I wish I had lessons like this, but I picked it up without lessons 💪
Great teacher and good student.
I've never learned to snowboard but with recent health issues it's not looking good for me so my husband is taking me out to finally learn, I'm 37 and I'm scared out of my mind lol thank you for this video maybe I'll learn something before goin to the hill 😂
He is riding a custom Flying V? Or a camber profile? Me encantan tus videos ❤️❤️❤️ mucho éxito. Ojalá aquí encontrara un instructor así 👍👍👍
I like that they had a beginner in the video learning how to snowboard. It's difficult to get a grip on the instructors lesson if it's only the instructor all the time.
Cut to next day he's throwing 1080s
I love at 12:46 he catches himself saying instead of bumb
This guy is my spirit animal
Also the most important part of snowboarding is getting comfortable boots. I just got mine thermo moulded and the difference is chalk and cheese!
