Chicago Bike Ride: Fulton Street [4K]

August 6, 2022 - I'm back after what's been a busy summer to film a ride down Fulton Street. I rode from downtown to Metric Coffee, my new favorite roastery in Chicago. Fulton Street and the Fulton Market District are still up-and-coming areas with lots of warehouses, factories, bars, and restaurants. Even though some segments of the street are pretty wide, there is little traffic so it's a nice calm route to bike on.

Another enjoyable video. I'm missing not seeing your videos as often now you have less free time to make them. Thank you for documenting cycling in Chicago. Your videos helped motivate me to start making videos of biking around New Orleans. Hopefully more people will see videos by you and other UA-camrs like Bicycle Dutch, Follow Thomas, and others and get on their bicycles instead of getting behind the wheel of a car.

Would you mind sharing how you mount your camera? It’s so smooth and stable, I’m guessing it’s mounted on the bike frame and not on the handlebars

I have a GoPro mounted to a gimbal that I just hold in my hand while I ride. I’ve experimented with a bunch of different setups but this gives the best results imo.

Nope I’m still around! I’ll probably be posting videos less frequently than before. I had so much free time during the pandemic but my life is pretty much back to normal now. My schedule is a lot more full these days.

That looks like a nice trip. 😀 Those calm city streets with the size of a European motorway: 2x2 + 2x1 emergency (here: parking) lanes are still strange. All the cars hug the middle line, which means that you can easily reduce the car driving space to that 2x1 strip. The other 4 lanes of space can be used for cycle lanes, parking where needed, trees and flowers, a playground, etcetera. The newly paved stretch is pretty stupid car centric. Why force cyclists down a parking lot lane, when you can put 1 or 2 separate cycle lanes on the side? Get the cyclists out of the weaving traffic and get rid of uncertainty and many points of collision!
