Watch the opposite direction here (Montrose Beach to Planetarium / North to South): • The Best City Bicycle ...
Today we ride the Lakefront Trail in Chicago, from the Adler Planetarium to Montrose Beach (South to North), along Chicago's Lakeshore Drive. Filmed on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in a late summer evening. (9.5 miles, 15.25km)
This video features no music, only the binaural audio recorded during the ride. I go through great lengths to get quality ambient sounds but if that's not your thing, feel free to listen to your own music and podcast while you ride along.
The goal of this channel is to record and document trails and bike rides so you can use it to plan your ride or ride along with me indoors in your stationary/exercise bike at home. Or... You can kick back, relax, and enjoy the scenery and sounds.

Walked and driven most of this lakefront. The views NEVER get old.
Agreed! Not to mention the fact that the view changes every year or so with the addition of new buildings to the skyline.
I used to ride along the lakefront every weekend in the summer. Getting too old for it now, but I can watch this awesome video on my tv with headphones to bring back the memories.
Also everyone riding home from work in work attire is cool
Love the city and this makes my indoor ride enjoyable ❤
Enjoyed that for my indoor spin! Feel like I have just cycled in Chicago. Thanks from Scotland
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
When it's January and my entire coat is blowing up above my head, wondering why I still haven't moved after 49 years living here, I'll come back and watch this video and smile like a kid. ❤ I love this city.
#onYourLeft
I grew up there. The bike path was always great and now it looks even better.
That's great to hear. I know that a while back the path for biking and running/walking used to be the same. Now they're separated, which is better for everyone.
This is amazing!! I used to work at the Adler Planetarium, so I would bike to and from there from Montrose, so this video feels like it was made for me! Granted, Irving Park is closer, but I always feel like a car would hit me just getting to the Lake Front path. The biggest difference I see is that new path around the bridge over the river. I really hated going through the bridge as it was hard to navigate, especially when it was full of pedestrians. I'm glad Chicago made that side trail around it.
Thanks a lot for the video and keep up the great work!
Thank you very much for putting this tremendous ride video together, and thank you for the ambient sounds. Great quality video
Thank you Chris! Glad you enjoyed it! Comments like yours make this worth it for me. Feel free to check out the channel for more videos like this. More videos coming soon!
Consider subscribing! New videos just like this posted every Wednesday and Saturday!
Regret not taking this path when I visited but I did enjoy the trip through traffic, through the city.
In the early 2000’s i did the ride 🚲every weekend for two years. Love Chicago. Many places to ride 🚲❤
Love it!!
Muchas gracias desde Argentina...hermosa costanera y recorrido
Gracias Horacio!
Amazing!!!
Really cool to see such well produced content from a channel with
Thanks for the kind words Mitchell! I'm glad that you're sticking around! I'm trying to get as many trails recorded before all the leaves fall off the trees. I have some videos I shot in the suburbs of Chicago that are scheduled to be published soon. I do plan on traveling to record more trails outside of Chicago, but no concrete plans at this point!
That Was CRAZY COOL, Loved The Ending To.👍🏽👍🏽❗
Thank you 🙏
Agree the cycling trails around lakes in Bavaria and Lake Zurich although spellbinding, pale when compared to the lakefront in Chicago. Even the smaller riverfront trail in chicago are nice. However its no longer this smooth and one needs to be careful of several uneven patches along the way.
Excellent ride, it felt like I was cycling the trail myself, especially with the natural sounds (no music). Of course, plenty of drama & action due to a few people not paying attention, it’s a wonder you didn’t wipe out a couple of times. I’m looking forward to seeing more adventures in your other videos - thanks!
Thank you! More videos coming soon this season!
Looks like a really nice biking trail
It is!
Great video. Well done!
Thank you! More videos like this to come!
Awesome video, you would have needed more time and water to cover this entire bike trial from north to south. I believe you can take it all the way to the Indiana dunes if I’m not mistaken.
You are so lucky to have such a cycle path. Love the scenery. How many miles did you do?
Thank you! This particular ride was 9.5 miles, but the Lakefront Trail goes for 18.5 miles in its entirety. Maybe I should make a video of it from beginning to end.
nice
In my slightly biased opinion, you're right. Liked and subscribed!
Thank you Neil! Welcome to the channel!
You ride so fast! Scary!
Very nice, how fast are you going? Looks like you're zooming ha.
The wide-angle lens makes it look like I'm going a lot faster than in reality. But it is fun to go fast as I can sometimes!
your setup is dialed, looks ridiculously good. been trying to find some gimbals like fhe wg2x for the gopro 10 but nothing's truly worked so far. also, do you mind running down your audio setup?
Thank you! I'm also using the wg2x (with gopro 8 though). It does a good job making sure the camera is looking at the horizon, but it doesn't get rid of all the shaking. Then I run the footage through Reelsteady to stabilize it further. For the audio, I'm wearing a Zoom H1n on a chest mount, with a windscreen (deadcat) to block out most of the wind. It looks really silly and I get weird looks from time to time, but I don't care.
@@virtualbikerides haha, yeah i think that's the gist of riding with this stuff attached to you. thanks for the reply!
Los videos de excelentísima calidad. Me gustan mucho.
❤
💕
Great ride! Then, follow it up with a death defying ride down Michigan Ave. splitting buses. 14:36 friendly one here
Not with my clipless pedals! In all seriousness, I’m thinking about doing a video in the loop this year, but only on bike paths. Michigan Ave. is a no-go-zone for me
@@virtualbikerides Mic Ave is an outragious ride around Christmas time. Back in the day I would pull a wheelie and ride down the center and the cops would just stare. And, yes, we split buses once in while. Young and stupid. If you want trail ideas out here in the burbs..start with the Fox River trail in St. Chas...thanks for the vid.
You read my mind. I’m doing the Fox River trail tomorrow. The goal is to film from Crystal Lake to Aurora.
As much as I hate it and love to insult it, I must make one exception: This bike path doesn't hold a candle to beautiful Fairmont Park in Philadelphia.
Mighty bold statement. Ever ride in other countries? Nice video.
Thanks! One of the most* ;) but that would make the video title even longer. Personally can't think of any other trail in a big metropolis that's better than this, but I'd love to be proven wrong! I'm not from the US, so yes, I have definitely ridden in other countries.
@@virtualbikerides Some areas of NY, Cal, Oregon, Wash, BC, Brasil, etc. can't be beat! Keep riding!
Awesome views and ride however all that congestion with joggers and other cyclists would make me too nervous
3:41 best part…..passing cops riding bicycles talking about salads……..hahaha😢
Lol
You could throw a lure out there and troll for dinner while you ride.
what camera is this
I see you've got the Terry B set up? Are you Pelotom from twitch?
Yup, if it weren’t for Terry B I wouldn’t have started this channel. I’m not Pelotom
You can go from Indiana to Michigan.
That's a great idea. I've ridden from Chicago to Hammond, Indiana, but I was recording videos at the time. Might do that this year.
Should of kept on north
Literally can take this path from the north side of Chicago all the way to the state of Indiana.
Beautiful lakefront, ugly politicians.
Do u use a go pro? If so wat are ur settings .??
