THANK YOU so much for letting people know we can request the pitocin be turned down/off! I was induced with my 4th and it was AWFUL. Just way too much. My body likes to space contractions out when I'm in natural labor and they're very strong and effective but I get 3-5 minutes between them for the entiee time. With pitocin I had such strong, long contractions that happened so rapidly I think they were less than 30 seconds apart. I was absolutely writhing and screaming in pain and NOT coping well. I wish I would have known I could tell them to stop it. I'm pregnant with my 6th and doing my first *planned* hospital birth, which means I'll most likely be induced since my babies are always born past 42 weeks and no OB is going to be okay with that. I've been really anxious about it but hopefully my cervix will be ready and I can just get a kick start with pitocin and then let my body do its own thing.
Can we please repeat the part where you said getting oxytocin turned down/off is an option. I never knew that was an option and my last labor was an absolute train wreck. Can we please normalize having care providers informing patients about these options?
Hello madam..I am from Srilanka ..BSc Nursing student third year ... I am going to start my fourth year and I am planning to to an elective appointment in Midwifery ( labor and delivery ) Your videos are really helpful to understand my lectures ...Thank you❤
This is SO informative. Thank you so much. I’ve had two quick vaginal deliveries and was debating induction for my third as I’m so scared of an accidental home birth. Hospital is 30 mins away and my second labour was only about an hour-ish long. Definitely thinking I’ll just wait for things to happen on their own again after watching this!
@@MichelleSK6 I ended up being at the hospital the longest beforehand of all my kids! 😆 I went in at 530am because of bleeding and he wasn’t born until 3pm. It was still a very quick labour though. Doctor had me just walk around in the morning because at 830am I was only 3cm but by noon I was already 7cm and had had barely any contractions or pain. Dr broke my water at around 1pm and then baby was born at 3pm. It was my best labour/delivery experience as I had a doula which really helped me during transition
So glad everything went well! My first baby came in just 2.5hrs so I am worried about the same thing with my second. I was thinking about doing an elective induction but after watching this I think I would rather not.
28.5 weeks along with my first and terrified from the horror stories I have heard/read of doctors just not listening. This was the most informational video i think i have seen on youtube so far for how the process of inductions work. I didn't know we could possibly go home. And i didn't know you could ask to turn down/off the pitocin. Thank you for this info
Love how informative this video was. I was induced with my first pregnancy becuase I had severe preeclampsia. They did the cytotec, cervidil, and the foley bulb. After the bulb fell out, they ruptured my membranes and I was given pitocin for augmentation. First method was given April 13.... I didn't go into labor and deliver until April 15. Now, two years later I'm nearing the end of my second pregnancy. I'm being induced August 20th because I have gestational hypertension this time around. I'm hoping it goes a lot quicker this time around
No wonder my birth was horrible .. i had alllthe bad side effects of oxytocin I told them my waters broke thwy didnt belive me and went to pop it.. cut my babies head and were confused ..i was like how about listening to me
Love your videos. Great info. I’m still pregnant… I’m 39 weeks + 5 days with my 4th baby. I am so done. I’ve been nauseous and sick the entire time but I am holding out to go into spontaneous labor. Especially after watching this video. Patience…… 🙏
Thank you for being here! You're so close. I know it feels like you've been pregnant forever but babies will come...and hopefully it is incredible and so smooth for you and your family :)
@@mamanursetina Well we had our baby at 3:39am today! Water broke at 1am, arrived to hospital at 2:30am. The epidural did not happen….. so insane and intense but all is well now! I’ve now had 1 c section, 2 VBACS with epidurals and 1 unmedicated birth. That’s a wrap for me! Lol
My reason for induction with my last baby? I was 40 years old, and nd they didn't want me to go past the 40 week point. They broke my waters, and gave me a drip. Then 3.5 hrs after the start of the induction, she came out. She wasted no time after getting her eviction notice.
@@josiegrosie4025 the only real issue, if there are no other complications, is that the older the mother is, the more likely the placenta will decide to stop working really fast after 39-40 weeks. With older mothers the stillbirth rate drops dramatically if the baby is born no later than 40 weeks. I had my first at 29, and 3 babies before my last at 40. The more babies you have, the faster the labour tends to be. Also, none of my labours took particularly long.
I was induced in 1/18 . . Had my boy on 1/18 Via c section he was faced up and I was exhausted. My epidural stopped working which caused me to have all my energy go away . . I was so done. I couldn't push anymore & he was stuck. All good. Papas is here! 9lbs 9.7 oz and a head of hair lol but uh uh no more kids. He's #4 never again

I was impromptu induced with my first feom water breaking without anything else happening, so planned induction and labouring process is actually new for me. It is very helpful to know roughly how long it takes or how long one may wait, since we need to make sure care for my first born. Thank you!
Your videos are informative & helpful THANK YOU❤️❤️ How oxytocin is started at 8:50 If ur contracting more than 5 times in 10 minutes Or Having singular contractions lasting MORE than 90 seconds Or Your babies heart rate is decreasing with every contraction u can ask for it to be decreased
I love you ❤ Thank you so much for providing so much information in all your videos. I can't explain how much it puts my mind at ease. Can you also provide details related the information present in growth scans?
I’m probably going to start the induction process tomorrow 🙈 baby due in a week, but has been transverse for the last part of the pregnancy. They performed an external version today and don’t want to give her a chance to turn back before labour starts. Wish I could wait for a spontaneous start… I’ll discuss it with the team in the morning.
Cervidil was horrible. I had a bad reaction and had non-stop horrible contractions for 20 hours before I was dilated enough for an epidural. Then labor stalled and I needed pitocin which ended in an emergency c section 😢 Next time I will definitely ask for monitoring and a stress test before being induced (I had low amniotic fluid and they thought I had a big baby who actually turned out to be tiny 2.7 kg)
The bulb induction isn't talked about much but they use it at the University of Michigan hospital where I am a doula. It's so new (or uncommon?) that it wasn't mentioned in most texts in my recent training and the other doulas were discussing their unfamiliarity with it as well. I appreciate knowing more now than I did 15 minutes ago!
I had a cook catheter for my second daughter's post dates induction at 41+3. Honestly, it just felt like a poorly inserted tampon, and 2 hours later it fell out. The worst part was the tension had to be tightened an hour in, and the tape they used definitely hurt my skin when it was repeatedly torn off. It worked great for me. I was nervous about cytotek because if baby didn't tolerate it well, there's no way to undo it. With the catheter, it can just come out if it's not working well.
Is being overweight really a good reason to be induced? Especially if there are no other concerns or complications? I’m really struggling with this right now…
Being a bigger BMI Infeed is a medical reason to induce. Chat with your provider and ask them what would happen if you don’t induce, what the concern is other than the weight piece and why a high BMI places you at risk. Gather all the info you can, they should be able to give you all those answers ♥️
My second labor I said i wanted to lie down and that the baby was coming. She said I hadn't been very dilated and checked again. She said, "Oh, my, lie down!"
I was induced with my first child because I developed hypertension. Their methods were different but I think my body was pretty close because they started meds at like 9 or 10 pm and by 7 am I got my epidural before the dr came in and broke my waters. Then I laboured pretty quick and had her before 1pm. Im glad I got my moms good labour genes. I hope all goes well with my second. I thought about induction but after this video, I think if there's no medical reason I'll let my body do its thing. We shall see how thay goes sometime around august.
Could you please do a video about having a baby that needs nicu time and preparing for that? My baby has a heart defect and we are going to be separated for a few days after he is born until I’m discharged from the hospital I’m delivering at, since he has to go to a children’s hospital.
Ugh I was not nervous until now...my family already tells me I will need a C section...so hearing theres a higher chance of needing one with an induction 😢 and I wonder when they will actually talk to me about this and all these options?? They only briefly mention that around 38 weeks I will get one and I never thought to ask either because I thought it was so simple. I wonder if we can avoid it, so I am going to ask. Especially since things have been going so well.
I had a Foley bulb…it wasn’t bad and it got me to 3cm. My water broke on its own right after the bulb fell out and they started me on pitocin shortly afterward. My Bishop score was 6 before induction. I had a long labor and ended up with a C-section after 32 hours at 8cm and was stuck at Station 0. My baby had turned during labor and was face up after being face down for months. 🙄
The induction was horrible for me. The no drinking water was brutal on me. I was so exhausted and thirsty. I dilated to 10, my water broke on my due date but still had a C-section. Worst experience I had. They had me on a time frame.
You don’t have to have them at all. But I would say from a professional stand point there are definitely times where they are pretty important. But…not all the time round the clock just because.
There seems to be a “purple line method” that looks at a mysterious purple line that develops on a laboring woman’s buttocks. It seems to be a method that has yet to be made fully useful, though, and certainly isn’t incorporated into standard practice yet. Maybe someday, though.
