update: after this incident B35 buses were rerouted so they didnt have to pass eachother on the turn. Sunset Park bound buses were routed via 14th avenue and Old Utrecht Av while northbound Brownsville bound B35 buses stayed going up 13th Av
I believe that there is some sort of MTA Bus Driving Rule that prevents them from backing up, unless there is some sort of spotter. It's the reason why both drivers didn't want to back up. Their GPS would show their bosses that they backed up and they would get written up for not following the rules. Yeah, I know it's silly, however some of these rules are for safety and ensuring there are no accidents or someone getting run over.
If thats the response of the MTA then we can see why the behavior of the drivers is what it is. Two individuals behaving like that at a company in front of customers would lose their job.
Thinking the Shipping Container and double parked mini-vans along 39th ST are the bigger culprits hence saving both Drivers from Suspension, knowing it would be worse to reverse the bus with GPS Tracking. Some are hinting that is a Passover Container, if so don't expect anything to change until the owners are ready to move their own container and vans.
MTA is always perfect, they never do things wrong. Now we know why buses come 3 or 4 at the same time after waiting 40 minutes or more. Buses get crowded "social distance".

You can't make that turn without leaving your side of the road. The supervisors (the City) is the one at fault for approving the route in the first place.

It’s already hard enough to make a tight turn with a standard 40ft bus, so it’s extremely challenging making tight turn with an artic. I think the artic that was making the left turn should’ve somehow maneuvered their bus to the right when it was safe to do so making room for artic that was turning and it’s hard to back up with a bus.

They don’t want to back up because their policy is to NOT ever back up. You have to call and get permission to back up. All they had to do is just Have somebody watch the back as they’re backing up and the problem would’ve been solved but they both were nervous to backup cuz they could get fired.

Those Streets in the 5 Boroughs are Smaller & the 60 Footers Are Harder to Back Up & Move Around, here in L.A. Metro has 60 Footers, I was on One Last Decade in the Valley on Ventura when the Operator had to Turn the Bus Around in the Middle of Ventura Blvd & it Took him 10 Minutes to Turn that 60 Footer Around I the Middle of the Wide Street. & Also, Metro has Issues with the 45 Foot Busses, on Turns Also here in L.A.
