Back in the day I had a choice to go to the MTA or Academy Bus in Hoboken. I chose Academy. I am glad I did, being a professional motor coach operator was very rewarding and fun. Driving the animals in New York City is dangerous and stressful. Taking people on trips who respect you is as good as it gets. I retired after 26 years.

Good job as long as you become part of the bus and not get interpersonal. Management thinks they know all, dispatchers after driving 2 years think they're better operators than the operators.

If your brother took a road test in BOTH a bus and a tractor-trailer, then this is incorrect, and whoever said this to him should be written up to the Governor's Office, DMV, US DOT, etc. to make sure they get in trouble for this.

The instructor is very aggressive because the intensity of what’s to come in the real world will put even the most experienced drivers under a lot of stress. Anyone who has operated a bus even in the most affluent neighborhoods in New York City has to overcome irrational and entitled passengers harassing the operators while the bus is in motion along with dealing with electric bikes scooters, pedestrians and other motorists trying to outmaneuver and get in your way while trying to keep their run as close to schedule as possible.

"Safety is our priority".. Bullshit. Regularly I see these guys allow passengers to stand at the very front of the bus when it has been over-crowded. They make no efforts to get people to step in, a lot of them drive over the speed limit, and slam on the brake pedal and accelerator. Yeah, very safe.
