Oxo Tower Wharf is in the east of London's South Bank cultural area in the London Borough of Southwark.
I don't even want to ask how much time this video took, between planning, actually doing it, editing. Did enjoy the video. The yfood isn't bad either for a taxi driver
the london borough of harringley
This is a really fun video! I think you paced it really well and included other information too.
When you point out historical landmarks or POI, I love it as I feel that I get the entertainment and education needed to make my time not feel wasted.
I also love watching you have stop to let people through all the time. I did my driving test in Barnet, which as a whole, isn't a terrible borough, but the examiners know the terrible bits and so my test was very hit and miss at times.
I went on to work night clubs in London and would drive Barnet to the London Astoria (RIP) regularly. At night, fine, during the day was awful......all this to say, well done with your driving in London, you need the patience of a Saint :)
Rather than OXO/Upper Ground, carrying on Stamford Street and turn around using Coin, Aquinas and Duchy Street would have collected Lambeth (you pass the welcome sign outside the Nautical School). Assuming restrictions haven't changed since 2022.
No idea how that was missed! Thank you!
the time and quality put into the editing of your videos is amazing!
This is the best video you’ve done. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I dread to even think how long the entire process took from planning to filming.
Such a fun video! Feels a bit like something GeoWizard might do if he drove a taxi.
This is the best video you have produced. It was nice to see you driving outside of west end and city of London. Please shoot more content of you working and driving through Morden, Merton, Mitcham and Wimbledon
Amazing knowledge Tom and a fascinating video, thankyou for all the time and effort you put into it love these type of videos still miss the shift ones, keep them coming please
I have a early morning shift coming December
Love the video Tom was really interesting. Was nice to pick up little tips to help me on my KOL. Keep the videos coming and Thankyou for the work you put into them 🫡
This was a great watch. You’re the man, Tom! 👊🏾
Looking forward to this one Tom, always really high production 🙌
Loved this video Tom - great content
Brilliant video Tom. I know how much work you put into this and some of your solutions were pure genius. Well done, I think you did it if you add in Havering credit, which we never thought of. Proud to be your “phone a friend”! Cheers👏
One of the best videos ive seen of yours tom
Great video as always tom! This must of taken some serious planning! Hope it blows up!! Keep it up 👍🏻
Fun to get the ‘real’ Tom’s live driving commentary. Proper bantz
Brilliant innovative video, thoroughly enjoyed this one, well done.
Wonderful video Tom! Loved seeing you go down the streets right next to the two places I’ve lived in london (in Blackheath and Dalston). I was very excited to see you drive past us in highbury a few weeks ago as well
Loved this video. You could’ve given yourself another credit as Ferry Lane is in Rainham Essex but it’s in the London borough of Havering
Great video as always Tom and a very interesting challenge.
I think you did complete it though as you would have picked up another TL pass at the Ferry Lane roundabout on the A13. That falls within the London Borough of Havering and I don't think you counted that after calling Dave?
This is absolutely hilarious. Your videos definitely make me want to visit London again!
You upload this right as I search for the old version that doesn't seem to exist anymore
put a smile on my face watching you work your way when south of the river. 😀
After seeing you mention this in a couple of Sunday Summaries, I was expecting something awesome and you delivered, fantastic video Tom! You almost ended up where I was born (Hornchurch) on that mission!
Thank you Tom.
Since I started taking the taxi home instead of taking the bus this year due to rolling bus driver strikes and the cyclone at the beginning of the year, I've almost completely optimized my route. I have the least waiting time on traffic lights, but I go through 2 more sets of traffic lights on the optimized route because there is one set of lights that takes long time to turn when leaving the off-ramp of a motorway. It may not be the fastest route in terms of time, but the savings is significant enough to recommend the route to the drivers.
❤❤ great vlog xx
Another wicked video Tom. I’m currently about 80 runs into my knowledge journey and am going to throw my hat in the ring and say the spin in Islington you mention is Bentley Road?.
"Wait til Sadick khant watches this video, he's going to put traffic lights everywhere" 😂😂💯
That was brilliant
In my end of London, I find it really surprising that Homerton High Street doesn’t have traffic lights on the junctions of Chatsworth Road and Kenworthy Road. I noticed you used it to your full advantage 😊
Love this
up until about 5-6 years ago, you used to be able to come out left of the ship and shovel pub, essentially going down the industrial estate slip road to miss the lights, it basically was a bus turn around but when they took out the right turn from the flyover onto Thames view Estate they blocked off the ship and shovel A13 access
such a great video
Love this, although I think you could have done it, Ferry Lane in in Havering so you had one extra traffic light credit to use.
Great video, think you missed a borough credit for Havering when you were on Ferry Lane so yes, you completed it!
The del boy clip is genius
Haha you going onto the M11 and then the A13 was so funny 😂
4:31 "what a crap street" That's where I used to live lol!
at 4:19 the school street was for my old school, you can see the building
Thanks for the nostalgia Tom!!
Edit: Just realised at 4:35 "yeah my house is there" - THAT WAS MY OLD HOUSE
and yes, you did always have to park half a mile down the street, it was a real pain!
7:14, and again! My cousin's old school to your left
Interesting video as always thanks Tom.
Is it possible that the OXO tower is actually on Lambeth ground, but the street where you were is in Southwark and the boundary is along the side of the street street /front entrance?
I haven't found a detailed enough map yet to confirm.
Another interesting video would be when you travel into London to work as you described in previous videos, When you cross the boundary into the first London Borough, how far east could you travel across London without hitting ANY traffic light at all, could you, by using endless suburban and smaller streets get right across to the boundary with Kent? (actual Kent proper today) not including present day London Boroughs with Kentish postal addresses, Eg Bromley etc.
Used to work a few doors down from Jimmy Griddle, solid Cafe!
Tom's consternation at the sort of street which has been normal to me my whole life is just cracking me up so hard! 🤣I was born in 70s Croydon and grew up in a south coast town, half of which had streets too wide and the other half of which had streets too narrow. Worthing, for the curious; it has loads of huge boulevards where nobody ever goes except the residents, while the through routes seem to date from the 16th century. Hah! "Rat run" was definitely appropriate for one of those routes in Worthing; it was under massive pressure while the main routes were underused. There were one or two good main routes around the town center and to the north, but people would insist on trying to cut through from the west instead of going around. To be fair, going around to the north did take you close to roads which were utterly impassable in the rush hour, but not onto them if I remember right. I just did it because I was insane.
There is a run from Pont street to the New Kings R that Courtney the old examiner taught me and still works, I use it often
That spot in the intro looks familar! Standing outside Picolo's on Queen Victoria Street
you could've crossed Trinity Road on Brodrick Road.
In-fact, I've come up with a new strategy based on this: identify corridors which only main roads cross, such as rivers, railways & highways, & find the few light-free points to cross them. A particular obstacle I have identified is that none of the bridges over the Ravensbourne as far upstream as Beckenham can be crossed without going through traffic lights, except for Catford Bridge eastbound only. This doesn't keep you from getting any boroughs, but is a major hindrance in accessing the only Thames crossing in east London, the Woolwich Ferry. Based on this, here's a partially-complete itinerary, starting from Ravensbourne Park, Catford:
Left A205 Catford Bridge, left Doggett Road, right Bradgate Road, left Rushey Green, right George Lane, left Radford Road, right Lanier Road, forward St Swithun's Road, right Leahurst Road, right Fernbrook Crescent, forward Fernbrook Road, forward Southbrook Road, right Burnt Ash Hill, left Upwood Road, right Horn Park Lane, left A205 Westhorne Avenue, forward Yorkshire Grey then immediately peel off left into Eltham Green, right Eltham Green Road, forward Birdbrook Road, left Rochester Way, right Dover Patrol, right Sun-in-the-Sands, left Indus Road, left Hornfair Road, right Charlton Village, left Fairfield Grove, forward Thorntree Road, forward Prospect Vale, right Marshalls Grove, left Samuel Street, right Frances Street, left Belson Road, totso left St Mary Street, left Parsons Hill, forward Woolwich Ferry, left Pier Road, right Henley Road, left Factory Road, right North Woolwich Road,
Instead of coming off at Loughton on the M11 carry on and take the M25 Anti-clockwise up to Junction 9 to get 2 more passes. Enfield and Hillingdon. From Junction 9 you can either go back clockwise to the M11 or go get a 3rd pass with Kingston Upon Thames (Left onto Oxshott Road, left Oaklawn rd, right Woodlands rd, right Stoke rd, right Fairmile Lane, right Miles Lane, left Sandy Lane, left Copsen Lane, 3rd exit Esther Common Roundabout onto A3; left onto Fullers Way North, left Tolworth Rd, left Hook rd, Hook Junction 2nd exit straight on, left Hawkhurst Gardens/Orchard Gardens, straight Moor Lane, right/left roundabouts to continue on Moor Lane, right Church Lane, left Stokesby rd, round Gilders rd into Filby rd, left Ashby Ave, right Chessington rd, left Derek Ave, left Amis Ave, right Gatley Ave, left Ruxley Lane, right Scotts Farm rd, forward Poole rd, right Chesterfield rd, left Chessington rd, right Longmead rd, left Hook rd, left East St, right Church rd, forward Grove rd, right Church St, left Worple rd, left Ashley rd, right Worple rd, into Ave rd, left Woodcote rd, forward Woodcote Green rd, right Woodcote Side, left Dorking rd, left Farm Lane, forward Headley rd, forward Tilley Lane, forward Church Lane, right Church Lane, right Leech Lane, forward Mill Way, forward Reigate rd, right Leatherhead-By-Pass rd, back onto M25 Clockwise at Junction 9 and finally back to the M11…)
This game is also good route knowledge and refresher of of routes, burghers, so maybe it be a good game for people on the knowledge and for qualified drivers to home in their skills roots and all that.
also be good for things to and again. Hope you remember the small details of taking the route very important as well.
27:53 "Look how lawless this is!" just as a police-van rolls by....
Perfect timing 😊. Reminded me of when David Lammy said you never see a policeman ….and there was one stood behind him 😂
Would love to see a version of you take the lights but have a set number of passes but lose them when you get a red but gain them if you get green and see how many boroughs you can drive right across not just into
The fact you did this is genuinely mindblowing. Unfortunately your frequent complaining about LTN's kinda ruined it a little, but still good video nonetheless
When i heard the rules, the first thing that cameto mind was that Simpsoms episide where Homer jumps over the embassy border in Australia 🤣🤣🤣
At one time at Renwick Road A13 you could go round the back of the Shop and shovel. But sadly it is blocked off now. Also Ferry Lane is still London if you had gone to the next Junction Wennington that is where Essex starts.
Tom could you started in Kingston other side of Richmond park or popped down copse hill into Kingston ?
Great video
👍Well Done Tom,. All though you nearly did it,. Excellent video as i always watch for my visits to London for a guide around town,.plus some interesting facts along the way,. Take care fellow see you on the next one,.
amazing video! side note: 43:17 did u turn on the meter out of pure habit here or am i going crazy 🤣
44:11 You've gone past my old office that's under reconstruction twice in your videos ,right behind the oxo tower wouldve thought that it was all southwark.
could doing more outer boroughs actually help your case? Using motorways and a roads?
You cannot use any of the bridges downstream of Richmond Bridge, but you can use the Blackwall Tunnel & the Woolwich Ferry.
Did you at any point have to pull over to check Google Maps & see if a given junction in outer London has traffic lights?
OMG - On the edge of my seat throughout. My nephew shouting "Come on Tom, Come on Tom, You Can Do It Son" (He is only 6 year old by the way)
Also Tom you hit tower hamlets as soon as you hit the a12 from wick lane
Hi Tom when you said seven sisters rs i thought you said seven bridges rd by the eagles 😁
this should be in the final exam for The Knowledge
Tom just a question can ya do pointing in a car ?
Okay then Mr Taxiboy Slim 😂
The Dutch got smart traffic light, but some times they just go to read even when there is no car there.
Can understand to give other direction fast green, but I hate it.
Hoofdweg in Capelle a/d IJssel does this during the day, goes red for 3 second and then back to green
Thanks to you Tom, as a truck Driver I have come to realize there's a lot gains in Taxi Driving and investment
32:14 Rainham is in Havering these days.
Wait did you count signal-controlled roundabouts as traffic light junctions?
32:02 Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore
Hi Tom keep it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery when are you coming to Walsall west midlands england junction
But you also turned back down the A13 at Ferry Lane which is in LB Havering so that would have counted for another TL pass. So surely it is possible.
Didn’t expect to see ya down at ferry lane
Was bloody windy round that way!
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Also means you could add another traffic light pass for Havering if you wanted as Ferry Lane is in Havering
Did you hit lambath a good way would get a parking ticket and see which borough fine you for it
I travel from my granddaughter's in Sheffield to my house in Barnsley a distance of 15 miles, takes me 1 hr 15 minutes passing through 59 set's of traffic lights at 4 .30 in the afternoon.
Wow not bad cos in liverpool the lights are really goosed manchester birmingham city is quite good
How did ypu get from barking to beckton on a13? The footage had a cut but im sure there is a light at the beckton roundabout going west
Slip road 👌🏻
Isn’t Bexley a London borough?
did any fines come in the post?
Within days of seeing this, Wandsworth will install more planters so "you can't get there from here"
I live in a very small city in the netherlands compared to london.I don't own/need a car. But i can undestand those small streets 5:40 for a taxi driver. If i could avoid them on my bike i would. Good streets if there are no cars at all but with them crowded it's hell. For every person using the road in whatever way.
Massive video mate!
May I ask you why London is getting rid off roundabouts? They are proven to be safer, aren't they?
Complicated junctions are safer for cyclists and pedestrians. Albeit they jump the lights whilst other traffic has to sit stationary
I feel you 😂 thanks and keep up with your videos!
38:57 all of Lewisham looks disgusting
My bf said....."he went through havering, by ferry lane" I didn't even know he was watching 😂
What a good idea. Loved your monologue 😂
God Damn ripple road traffic lights. Spend many a morning stuck at them.
Try all 32 boroughs
Wouldn't there be a way to do it without crossing Thames three time?
I think it's definitely doable but on a bicycle, traffic lights don't count for them ;)
Bromley is another
What about Enfield??
Can you use ferries
45 mins wasted for the end but not as much time wasted as you put in driving it 😂 seriously - fun idea. More insight into your personality too. Thanks and keep up the good work 👍🏻
Hmmm could you of saved 1 pass by going further up Wightman then use only 1(rather than 2) going down St Anne Road?
Still uses 2. Needed st Ann’s to get into Hackney
@@TomtheTaxiDriver ok boss🙌
No gates dose that mean road Vi royal parks or though Buckingham palace or likes that a , legal actually loads
Can you enter every borough in a single day with normal paying customers???
Nah 12mins in and I’m out bro, watching u drive to every borough in London is just to stressful. Peace out 👍
Sorry to be annoying but why is there a white block behind your head in the narator sections. Love the vids just curious 😊
It’s the reflection from the light 👍🏻
you could have done it if you took more of the outer boroughs into consideration.
your thoughts please on UBER taking on black hacks ,2024 ,with 6 months no commision ?
What a great idea for a video, although I wish you hadn't given yourself a no u-turn rule, it was a bit weird you describing a u-turn as an illegal manoeuvre, it's not illegal unless specifically signed. Could have been fun seeing you u-turn away from traffic lights trying to find other ways around.
Maybe that’s a second challenge 😜
Better ideas as I found when working a venu. We was egressing cars and rather than stopping we would slow cars speed them up to make them keep moving and egress faster lessen the domino effect and make egress be better. As of that my idea is have the standard green lights. change the amber and red to timers to time to zero to go, like usa and others countries use for pedestrians crossings.
How it works your drive up to lights green as normal but when changing amber red amber it times down to green so lead car(s) see when green and slow more gradually meaning when it goes green you can be ready to move off. Benifit mean if you see a red and it says eg 5 seconds you no there no need to slow to stop meaning save time money and Co2. If long wait can slow at pace to lights so aware when can go and thus meaning lees Co2 less stopping faster flow traffic. If how ever you do stop all the cars could stop short or at stop marker and can be moving off before zero to a don’t pass marker so again faster flow
What you think
you could of maybe gotten a mystery pass from havering
