nice work, laddie
heyyy Tom, nice to meet you! I sent you an invitation email for TrainPal campaign before, are you interested in it?
Used to be a bit sceptical of black cabs but your videos have converted me. The knowledge is awesome. Thanks Tom.
I get free public transport travel because of my job in London but there are times when I get black cabs just because I know it is quicker than anything else and more comfy. You can’t knock the knowledge. You’re worth your weight in gold at times, especially when it’s hot on Tubes and buses and you want a more comfortable ride.
I echo the sentiments of others on here in saying that your shift videos will be sorely missed especially as a fellow cabbie albeit in another country. Cheers
I think one of the delights of using a black cab in London is that it will turn into a bit of a magical mystery tour, not knowing which way your driver will choose to go. As of course there are so many possible permutations, when you factor in road closures and traffic congestion etc.
He/She/They will go the way that earns them the most lol
2. right Launceston Place, left Cromwell Road, left Park Lane, Edgware Road, right George Street, left Montagu Square.
33:07: through the underpass, forward Shaftesbury Avenue, forward Gower Street. bosh.
Gawd i remember that day, traffic was a mare. West london still is a mare, so many parallel roadworks 🚧 in knightsbridge.
Nice changes to the formate, face cam was a nice personal touch plus liked the speedy and slow tags
the crossing you were discussing is called a pelican crossing and they're being phased out in favour for puffin crossings which use sensors to detect pedestrians wanting to cross, which completely removes the ambiguity
People who know what they are doing make it look easy …the knowledge is priceless
I love to see your passion for the job as you tell us about your day. Incidentally it was great seeing you go pass the Greenland buses several times, which I used to drive! Thanks for taking us on the ride.
Just sat down to eat my lunch and this Beaty is in my subscribe box. I really like this new format with the time and face cam as it gives a bit more context as to how long and efficient the jobs are.
@TomtheTaxiDriver im a belfast taxi driver and anytime i cant be annoyed going into work i put one of your videos on and before i know it im in the car cracking on so a massive personal thanks as your videos give me motivation.
Another great video Tom! I don't think I've been to any other city, in the UK or abroad, that matches London in terms of things constantly changing - I applaud you having to keep up with it all every day!
After the Warwick Av job, I would have definitely done Paddington hoping for a Kings Cross to pull me away from the area. Great video Tom.
Brilliant Tom! Thanks for this! ✌️❤️ as always
Another great video as always, and the editing just keeps getting better and better! Well done!
Thank you for these videos! Excellent as always, super interesting to watch and really enjoy understanding your knowledge and driving thought process. Big respect to you.
Great video Tom. Love this style of shift video. Keep them coming!
Back with another insight into a day in the life of Tom the Taxi driver, thanks Tom, interesting as usual.
Great video, the addition of the journey time and if it’s fast/normal/slow is a great addition
My favourite shift video you have done. Thanks for saving the best ‘til last. I totally understand why you won’t be making them in future due to how time consuming they are. We’re glad you made them all
Which video did he say he's stopping 😢
Top drawer as always Tom, thankyou.
yo dude love your videos. I was wondering is the rule of the one who is at your right with advantage of junctions without traffic lights or signs (i guess in UK would be the left one since you are driving at the wrong side of the road (: )?
One of the bits of advice I gave a new colleague was "Always read the yellow signs"
Did he? No.
Does he now? Yes
Fantastic video Sir
The powers that be restrict roads, take away lanes, close cut throughs, build cycle lanes, then let it all go to shit by plonking a festival in the middle of london. Give. Me. Strength.
They do it on purpose. Don’t want you to have it easy driving through London.
Thanks Tom ❤
Great video as always. After watching several videos with London Eats I wonder how you would handle delivering food on a bicycle in London since you do not need Google Maps, electric or not?
25:30 @TomtheTaxiDriver, The Saudi diplomat vehicle occupant/ passenger is visiting Harrods and closest easy free place to park knowing its unlikely they will be trapped in the space like most of the vehicles parking around Harrods!
Hey hey, come on over, have some fun with crazy taxi.
Hyde park corner underpath open again? I usually head out now from Oxford Circus to Twickenham via Paddington and Hammersmith to avoid going around on top.
Love the nod to Crazy taxi!
17:49: That's the same as how drivers assume they can drive through a yellow light (that's about to turn red).
I was in London on this day. Got cabs for the ac 😂
It wasn't sunny but bloody hot n muggy
You got your woods mews and lees place mixed up it lees place first then cross over into woods mews. Hello from the Beaumont hotel 🙌🏿
Super video!
In regards to that app booking that you had early in the video is there a provision to resubmit that job when you do get a street hail as shown in the video?
You should defo do more airport vids!
I've done LHR and City. Can't do anymore because the rest are out of the London licensing area.
Another great vlog
Another interesting video! 👍
South Carridge Drive will never open while the cycle lane is in Park Lane. Thanks for another great video. 9:52
Royal Parks have shut a bunch of roads. Out in Greenwich, they used to let us through the park during the rush, greatly reducing the pressure on the residential streets, but now, no.
(It was only 7-10 and 4-7 mon to fri)
Hi Tom, what shop did you buy the taxi magazine from?
Ah Guns And Roses great band Sweet Child O Mine I love that song especially the 6min version
I love a bit of Y food and often use your discount code still go back to the banana 🍌 on a side note you are definitely an ambassador for the trade, and you deserve the success you are achieving I can see this channel achieving 200k subs over the next couple of years
Good luck to you, Tom
15:34 was she trying to hail you? That was a weird hailing style lol
nice vid! Quesion - why did you hang around Hyde Park area if the traffic was so bad? I guess the amount of business outweighs the traffic concerns.
Because the jobs dropped me there. Way to be efficient is always having a job on. Travelling 30 mins away from the area might not even yield a job
The flashing amber/flashing pedestrian green combo seems to be on its way out with only older traffic lights having it with new/replacement ones having a countdown or simply blanking out instead. I'm sure you'd be pleased by that.
Funny how I'd never noticed the cultural difference here with it having lived in Hong Kong for 15 years prior until you'd pointed it out in the video. Over there, green flashing is the norm at every pedestrian light so everyone knows it's about to turn red so time to stop (or time to rush across). On the other hand, I was pretty confused by the pedestrian light blanking out which seems to be the preferred option for crossings when they don't have a countdown now. The slight nuances in road signage/markings after having diverged sometime in the 70s it seems is always amusing to notice.
London is chaos, no one seems to be in overall control of the roads these days.
It’s like when you had a supply teacher at secondary school who couldn’t control the class
A video with female taxi drivers? If you know any, that is. Would be interesting to get their perspective. I can only imagine if you, being quite young, get snarky comments from passengers about your knowledge, what would a woman get?
Tom, how did you fix the squeeky noises from the buckle and the seat? On my TX they're driving me mad😅
Silicon spray
Flashing yellow traffic light = treat it as a zebra crossing. Other EU countries use it constantly as a Zebra situation.
Do customers ever comment on you ignoring the sat nav?
How many miles do you do on a average shift
Looks like narrow road dont think my 4x4 gas guzzling pick up truck have might get jammed
Would there be much difference in price between the 2 Harrods to Selfridges jobs with one being 22 minutes quicker? 🤔
It's certainly not 3x the price. That's the problem with being stuck in traffic.
If I did 1 hr sat stationary, the meter would go nearly £40. If I did 1 hour on a motorway the meter would well over £120! Shows you how important the distance is over the time.
Tom , where can I get the map you use? Keep up the good work mate .
If you're talking about the map Tom draws his routes out on that's a Geographer's A-Z map, from the same people as the classic pocket A-Z of London. As always the answer to the question "Where can I buy map XYZ?" is "Stanfords" - either online or grab a cab to take you to their London store (7 Mercer Walk, Covent Garden).
1:32 Looked super scary.
lucky to get jobs after half 8 period, i can't stand that time
gotta av a break and back on the road for about 9 15 😊
All minimum fares all day every day must be boring can't be much different at night with all the mini cabs parking where they like.
We would really love seeing the fares or a daily recap of earnings like before. Any reason why you may not do it anymore?
I never did a daily recap of earnings? 🤔
Brilliant video
do you warn customers before you start your journey it is busy? just curious
Yep, and it helps when there's a lot of people around/security, Nice visual reference for the punter 😊
No because the first thing every cabbie is asked is...'you busy drive?'
Ahem, when going to 230 Blackfriars Road for the first time, why didn’t you take a cab??
You know when you get into a cab and the driver's in the mood to be really chatty and you're not? Now imagine that you've just given him an address that can mean only one thing and you're going to get "horror stories of appearances I have been at or witnessed the aftermath of" - when you're already nervous about your appearance. Na, a quiet walk from the nearest tube station would be the ticket.
Tom, what is your annual mileage?
GPS/satnav/maps can be useful but blindly following GPS/satnav/maps is not always the best idea. I had one instance where Google Maps ells me that a walkable path between points A and B existed but it didn't exist and a second instance where it tells me to use a motorway interchange to cross the motorway when its not possible to cross the motorway at that point and you instead need to use a footbridge further down.
Hi Tom keep it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery
I wonder if you also know a good place to go for breakfast if i visit london again 😊
I mean you probably know every restaurant 😅🙈
Never, always learning, discover something new everyday. The thirst for knowledge is endless 👍🏻
@@TomtheTaxiDriver
So you could eat somewhere different every day without knowing every shop? sounds like a perfect city. (and a lot of good food) 😍
I'm a tiny bit jealous 🙈
What's going to happen to Black Taxis when the Cruise RoboTaxis hits London already in several American Citys
850j ? What's special about the plate?
It’s another great vid Tom. But I personally don’t like this face cam. Without it I feel like I’m in the cab and going along with you talking through the route.
same, I feel the same
Must be a lot of work but a small map which moves as he moves could help as opposed to the map drawings. (Although the drawing makes it that bit more authentic)
I agree
I personally don’t have a problem with it
I really like it, makes it seem more personal!
How much did the 29 minute job cost out of curiosity?
Is there a time limit to drive like a truck driver?
None 👍🏻
Once the public get too annoying it’s time to go
Slash .
Do you think being an uber driver or deliveroo rider or similar would be a good way learn the knowledge and get some funding
Not really because you aren't forging the connections in your brain, as you will be using a sat nav. It's a bit like saying can I get strong by using a forklift, you'll be lifting stuff but you won't be physically doing the lifting.
Deliivey rider can work as long as you're not using the sat nav all the time. I learned every street in my city in about a year doing delivery work.
Another great video. Just wondering what you do to make sure you don’t get bumped on multi stop journeys where the customer has to leave your taxi for whatever reason?
2 people. so one stayed in the cab at each time.
What would happen if a passenger opened the door into another car?
25:34 Julian Assange was turned over to the Metropolitan police by the Ecuadorian embassy staff in 2019 after Assange reportedly made life difficult for the diplomatic staff, despite them harbouring him there for 7 years. Since his arrest he's been incarcerated in HM Prison Belmarsh and he's been appealing the decision for him to be extradited to the US. That process is almost coming to a close, and if he's extradited to the US, he will face trials there for 19 espionage and conspiracy charges.
Skin looking super smooth. found a new remedy?
Antibiotics indefinitely… 😔 kills my liver but my GP won’t acknowledge it. God bless the NHS
Hello mate you earn .your money .With all the traffic .can you think what it would, just starting this job, on this day 😂
GnR are perfectly predictable. Always start with "Welcome to the Jungle" and always end with "Paradise City" - unfortunately not always they play "Rocket Queen" between them...
Thank you for the "demographic reminder" by the way. Use Your Illusion was one of the first CDs teenage me bought.
Tom
Imagine losing all that knowledge to gps
Assange was arrested by the Met police in the Ecuadorian Embassy when the Ecuadorians got fed up with him hanging out there. There was a suggestion of behaviour unbecoming, He's been in Belmarsh since 2019. The Swedish dropped the rape charges he had in Sweden but the Americans want him for spying and his extradition process is ongoing. Last I heard, the US had said they wouldn't seek the death penalty in order to move along the extradition. Despite spending the last 11 years squatting an Embassy or in prison, he has married (his lawyer) and had 2 kids with her.
9:49 - Back when speed limits weren't bad back then with cycle lanes illogically placed. 40mph (seen on the map) on Park Lane must have been a bless
Driving around in London as Uber driver or black taxi or van driver is a very stressful job and the drivers ere exploited
Nothing stressful about it
Are London Taxis legally obliged to take cash and give change?
Harrods to Selfridges should be a shuttle bus service with each store paying half to bring customers to their store.
Hahaha good idea in theory! In practice, the people who go from one to the other will definitely not want to go on any form of public transport though!!
I think the Licenced Taxi Driver's Association have just issued a fatwa with your name on it. 🤣
Interesting. Very well produced video. But I'm curious as to why you do it. It must be very time consuming and I don't see what you gain from it, aside from sponsorship from yfood.
I want to get more passengers in taxis and more drivers in the driving seat.
I love the opportunities and freedom this job has provided me, as well as the rich heritage of the London trade. It must be preserved and shared proudly!
Have you picked someone up only to be hailed by them later in the night
I picked up a Spanish family in 2 different places on the same day once
Yep! Same day, also next day haha
I'm a Edinburgh black cab driver. One night I picked a Dad, Son and daughter off the street in three different locations all going back to the same house. One of they crazy nights you can get in the cab😊
He made a good £500 that day after expenses
Haha good one 🤣
Is it true that legally black cab drivers aren't required to wear a seat belt?
Not just black cab drivers. All cab drivers.
Correct, only when working.
Why?@@TomtheTaxiDriver
@@brianbrown826 It dates back to when the open payment hatch in the driver's compartment (the perspex screen) was quite big so people could actually reach through, it was to stop the driver being strangled with the seatbelt by people intending to rob or attack them.
Private hire drivers in Dundee have to do the same tests as taxi drivers there no difference up here
If that were the case in london, there’d by no private hire drivers on the roads as most are thick as ten short planks!
