My biggest tip for Spanish that has actually worked for me is watching shows in Spanish with Spanish subtitles! The most effective way to learn is immersion imo. Writing in a journal also helps :]
I’m Colombian so I speak Spanish and English and I’ve been trying to learn Italian and it’s a process for sure 😂 but putting yourself out there is a crucial step! (: Btw your Spanish was great! You have good pronunciation!
I relate to you so much! In both middle and high school, I kept being put in Spanish 1 and 2 so I was not able to really improve myself past the basics, which I knew. I’m now trying by best to not be fluent, but at least conversational! I am a nurse in Texas and feel so bad when I have to use a translator service to communicate with my patients so I decided I was time to learn Spanish. I use Preply and have notecards and workbooks. It’s been difficult and honestly intimidating but I realize how much I’m learning and how much better I am with understanding and speaking. I realize this video is from 2 years ago, so I would love to know how your journey is now!
my first language is spanish and i have always lived in a spanish speaking country. i dont think you need to live in a spanish speaking country to learn spanish. the way i learn english is by watching all the movies and tvshows in english w spanish subs, then consume most of my content in english. i think is the best way to learn a new language. psa: i highly recommend you to learn latin american spanish, i think its far better to learn than the spanish from spain
I fell asleep so many times with Duolingo but I made it to the top several times. I quit it cus it took so much of my time. It could be fine for beginning but I am beyond beginner and I am in Mexico where I can practice live. Anyway, I give you credit for sharing at such an early point in your journey. Love your attitude and smile and voice too. You are sure to do fine as you keep applying yourself to the work! ❤
one of my favorite spanish book series is memorias de idhún and its middle grade. it reminds me a lot of Percy jackson and harry potter type thing i highly recommend if youre going for reading to try that series out once you get more vocab. i also highly recommend the teach yourself textbooks, i used the catalan one and i like the way theyre laid out.
im from brazil and portuguese is kinda similar to spanish so: great job with the pronunciation!! keep going lol in my journey learning english i read several book i previously read in my own language and made good use of subtitles (same language as audio, english audio w/ port. sub, and vice versa!) oh, songs!!! songs are catchy and help soooo much
It’s so nice to see learning Spanish. As a Colombian, a native Spanish speaker, I think your pronunciation is really good. Keep working and you’re going to see how you keep getting better and better. I think that listening to music in Spanish, while reading the lyrics would be a good idea, specially if you try to sing along. This will help you with your pronunciation, your listening skills, and even with vocabulary and grammar (specially if their older songs, more like poems). That really helped me when I was learning English and right now, as I’m trying to learn French. 😊
My biggest factor of progress was when a customer came in to my job and nobody was fluent in spanish or really spoke it besides me and even the little bit I could use helped us be able to take his order.
Hola Ashley! I'm spanish and I am thrilled you are interested in learning my language, I really hope you find a fun journey in this process! I also think you are doing an amazing job, keep going and you will surely achieve your goals ❤️ I am currently living in Lisbon and trying my best to learn portuguese, watching this video motivated me so thank you for that! So yeah, I wish you the best, espero que disfrutes mucho aprendiendo 🥰
Hi, I am María and I am an English Teacher. As I am multilingual I can recommend you reading in Spanish at the same time you listen the audibook in Spanish too. That was perfect for me in English!!!
Watching Spanish shows with english subtitles definitely helps!! Try watching Cable Girls, High Seas, Morocco:Love in Times of War, Gran Hotel, and El Internado
Hola! I would recommend you to watch kids shows in Spanish, it's very helpful because they consist mostly of basic words (Dora, Blue's Clues.) Mexican here 🙋🏻♀️🇲🇽
Hi, Ash! Your Spanish is great. I'm from Mexico and I speak spanish as my first language, english, and a little bit of french and portuguese. I'm currently learning swedish too lol I've never watched any study with me videos before and I loved the idea!!! Keep them coming, I'll gladly watch them and maybe it will sparkle some motivation for my own studying hahaha. Also, the difference between Meter and Poner is that we use Meter as "Put in/ Put inside" and Poner as "Put on", does that make sense? And Saber is used with knowledge and abilities, like: Yo sé jugar fútbol = I know how to play soccer, while Conocer means that we know someone or that we have some previous experience with something, like Yo conozco un buen restaurante = I know a great restaurant or Yo conozco a esa persona = I know that person. I hope that helps!!
So good to know you are interested on learning spanish, I'm spanish speaker native, also know english as well and I'm in the progress to learn german....and of course I understand you, is quite a challenge, especially with spanish that has so many variations on meanings from country to country, but keep it up, you are doing great!!!
I love this video!! I'm working on learning a couple languages myself, so this really helped to get me motivated. I'm in school for French and starting this year I'm now learning Spanish and German in my free time as well.
AH I'm hoping to level up my Spanish using the books I love that are translated! I've reread Furyborn a hundred times so I plan to get the Spanish version lol I highly recommend learning the most common words through quizlet - it helped me a lot The Spanish you did speak sounded really good! Recording my process will probably encourage me to be consistent 😂
Loved this video!! I'm trying to learn German (bc I liked it at school) and Korean (bc of BTS) in my free time so I love watching videos like this! Your notes look so nice! 🥰🥰 Good luck learning Spanish!
Vas muy bien con tu español Ash, keep going, I studying English and when I found or know people what study Spanish make me feel so happy, XOXO from Argentina
I am a Spanish-speaking person and I have to say your Spanish is great! Good luck learning this language and good luck with verbs. They are a struggle even for us! 😉
Meter is more like put inside, like: yo meto el libro en mi mochila. For practicing spanish I recommend you easy books like Daisy Jones and the Six or in general TJR books:)
Hi Ash! It's so cool you're learning spanish! I'm from Spain and if you don't mind, I've noticed a weird phrase in your notebook. 9:50 it's written "él llega a la casa a las ocho en la noche" That sounds a bit weird in spanish. It would be more correct "él llega a casa a las ocho de la noche". And that's it. The rest you have wrote is fine. Sorry for any inconveniences (and my English). =)
I'm Filipino so I'm both fluent in Tagalog and English but I'm also currently studying Spanish and it really helps when your teacher is Spanish 🤣 I'm an online exchange student in Universidad de Santo Tomás in Chile and I'm on my second semester and having so much fun even though I don't get all what my teacher is saying because he doesn't speak much English either 😂
I'm Colombian and I think spanish is one of the hardest languages to learn, it has so many verbs and words that even we don't know them all 😅 Your spanish was actually really good, you're doing well! 💛
Kewl vid, not sure why I watched the entire thing since Spanish is my native language... hehe but was a cool vid non the less. good luck learning the language :D its quite fun, and Spanish reading is really fun :3 BTW: Your handwriting is OMG level :3
I love this! And here I thought my Spanish was decent for a beginner but seeing the progress you’ve made made me realize just how behind I am on that app 😂 I need to get back to my lessons ASAP, thanks for motivating me!
You’re doing pretty well!! I’ll love to see more videos like this!! I’m from Spain but I also speak English, I used to know some French but right know I barely remember anything 😅😅
Love the video! I myself am trying to learn how to speak and improve in my Spanish skills😃 your encouraging me to continue! Embarrassingly enough I'm Mexican so I should already know this 😅my whole family is bilingual, I just understand Spanish but speaking Spanish is another story lol I shall not give up though!! 😊
hey there....i would love if yo could make a video on how to read cassandra clare books....saw your percy jackson one and it really helped...now i was hoping to start reading Cassandra Clare and dont really know where to start.....pleaseee help!!!!
I took 4 years of French. But I haven't used it since high school (15 years ago) I used to be able to carry a conversation. Now I can hardly remember how to introduce myself. I would love to relearn French. I also want to learn Spanish and ASL.
I'm French. My boyfriend is Palestinian. So I'm learning Arabic and trying to improve my English. I also try to improve (or remember 😂) my Italian. But I'm not really active in my Italian language progress. I don't have enough time to focus on everything 😂
There’s this series on UA-cam for language learning, and the Spanish series is quite good for improving listening comprehension: m.ua-cam.com/play/PLLVULqsElvki_riI1ld0QhZJx1wom5Ply.html There’s also a series for learning English and French I believe, not sure if they are on YT though
I thought your Spanish was good; I would definitely butcher it if I tried. Thankfully, I didn't have to learn it in high school, but I do want to learn French. I think French is such a beautiful language and I definitely want to learn it at some point.
i am from Argentina and i loved the video!! you speak spanish very well!! Maybe you can talk with Brittany from the Channel Brittany the Bibliophile, she was born in Argentina and she speak spanish and she can help you!! muchos besos!!

Okay then I am second
Spanish is my native language. You made a minor mistake in your tense, but you were understandable.
Duolingo... meh. Do Anki insted. It's much better. Anki + immersion = killing combination.
Huns don’t use Duolingo it don’t work
