This will be nice follow-on to the original release. It definitely looks different without the turret and the smooth engine cowlings. However, the silver aircraft were painted with silver dope not natural metal as most of the airframe was fabric covered. Even the plywood covered areas would have been sealed with fabric and dope before painting. At some point, Ansons had their wooden wings replaced with metal units because the wood spars had a tendency to rot but this may not have been until the C.19 version. All flying Ansons today were built or retrofitted with metal wings as aircraft with original wooden wings are not considered airworthy.
Now here’s a nice little story about the Anson. There was a really lovely gentlemen I used to know at a gliding club. Despite speaking impeccable English he had a slight accent. He was German by birth. He left Germany in 1938 as he was disgusted with the Nazi regime. On arrival in England with his wife Alice he decided to ditch his German name and take on an English one. He called himself Colin, after his home city of Köln (Cologne). He didn’t have a surname ready but flying overhead was what he described as a beautiful aircraft, an Anson. So I’ll build one in his memory.
