  • Hello everyone!
In this video I'm diagnosing the no start condition on my Triumph and adjusting the carbs using the Colortune.
I still find it challenging to film what I'm doing so the video doesn't go into all the small details of what I've done but it provides a general idea of the process. I will do my best to plan them better in the future.

This is another level of Mechanics. I’m speechless. You are so calm and patient.
I would have liked to hear her roar at the end 😅

Just got myself an old steamer that didn’t run and finally got it going after a bunch of work and finally adjusting my carbs to how you’ve done em up here. Really appreciate the high quality video, and incredibly jealous of your bevel screwdriver. Can’t seem to find one near me half as decent

Hey there. Thank you for your comment. Glad you got a steamer. Out of all the bikes I’ve ridden so far, I can honestly say the old Tiger is my favourite. Hoping to get back into doing videos soon and hopefully will have a series on the Tiger later in the year. Including converting the old steamer to efi. I know I’ll get a lot of hate for that 😂

@@garage_tales Hate or not, I'd love to see it! Everywhere I go people warn me about the regular practice of cleaning carbs, so that was something I was thinking about myself! Did you take an intake of a later injected model?

@@gunnar9702 Yes, I found a later 955i Sprint RS that I took the throttle bodies, injectors, fuel rain, wiring loom, ecu, dashboard and switchgear. So it should be all there. So we’ll see how smoothly it goes.
My carbs where replaced, I believe they came off a daytona originally. But someone also tried to do some modifications to them + they where a bit worn, so I never got them running as good as it should and mpg was always poor. So rather than spending money on new carbs, I decided to give efi a try.

Thanks, great video. I have a 97 that came to me in boxes. The details of cable routing and component location helps greatly. Cheers.

Hi where could i find that carb adjustment tool? Recently acquired a steamer... but no tools with it and every tool i get wont fit. Hard to set it up without it actually being on there. Dont want it rich or lean you see. Thanks.

Hey there. I’ve bought the bevel screwdriver from Morgan (same guys that make the vacuum gauges I used). carbtune.com is the website. Not sure they sell it anymore, but hope you find it :)
      All the best!

How many turns out did u do please as I have just restored mine back to running condition replace all seals etc in carbs and set my air mixture screw to 2 turns out from 0 what did u set yours at as I still have a very bad mid range rev I've replaced all coils etc and plugs and it'll rev out its just the mid range isn't very good yet and I'm at some what of a loss at the moment all the jets have been cleaned carbs sonic cleaned etc just mid range isn't great

Hi Wayne. Is everything else (airbox, exhaust) stock? Any vacuum leaks?
I left the pilot jets at 2-2.25 and the middle cylinder at 2.5 if I remember correctly, but if mid range is your issue, it might be worth looking at your metering needles. That has a much bigger effect on the midrange.

@@garage_tales hi mate thanks for the reply and no the airbox is missing so it had 3 pod filters but I am in the middle of sourcing an airbox and will have to get that fitted and see if it'll fix it but my original carbs were shot and now it has 900 trident carbs which the trident is 100bhp and the tiger 84 bhp so I'm wondering if when I changed all the seals and jets etc did I set the air mixture right aswell as the trident had 2 fuel lines out where the tiger had 1 so I've blocked the one off aswell so I'm all over the place at the moment the current air mixture I have is 2 turns out and it runs etc and runs well but as stated the mid range around 4k isn't great

@@strider9583 I imagine the missing airbox has quite a big effect on the fuel mixture. I had to deal with an Adventurer (quite similar engine) which had the exhaust replaced and some extra holes in the aibox. It was running very badly. I had to replace main jets, pilot jets and shim the metering needles to get it to run right :)
