SlifertheCanadian I can only imagine that McDarby is in the hospital because someone shot him for being such a pretentious prick. As for Danny... I'd have to think he got stuck in some sort of awesomeness vortex created by how fantastic he is, and every NASA scientist cannot find a way to get him out of it yet.
SlifertheCanadian McDarby moved to Seattle and no longer works as a buyer for SCG. West is still a buyer but being a close personal friend of McDarby I don't see him guesst-staring in many more Commander Versus videos. I loved loved loved West, McDarby was a prick but a good host & showman, also they had epic synergy.
Parnell & Green also work for SCG and have played in 4-way Commander Versus and some 1-v-1 games in the past (as guessts). Give them time, they still haven't got the hang of hosting a Versus series. 2-3 more vids and they should get the hang of it.
I thought that at the beginning, but these two really stepped it up along the video. I don't like making jokes about being better than one another, so when they dropped that, things got better.
14 Mins in: Parnell triggers Voice of resurgence when he casts vampiric tutor. They are playing pretty casually, but he announces the cast after voice (and Marath) have been played.
Assault Suit is DIIIIRTY with Zurgo in a Multi-Player Game. By the time it passes back to your Turn, he's bigger, and has dealt a ton of Commander Damage all across the Board.. Muhuhahaha~ :P
This was pretty good, I gotta say. The McDarby/West duo is a legend that will never die, but you guys are doing great! On a sidenote, watching Stephen miss his Voice trigger on the same turn he played the Voice... **frustration intensifies**
He should have also blocked Zurgo with Reclamation Sage on the combat number 2, not 1. He took 8 instead of taking 7(going to 15 commander damage instead of 14)
B1gLupu Considering Zurgo isn't realistically going to be doing less than 7 damage at any point, there's no functional difference between going to 14 and 15 commander damage.
1- Fetchland to not put Shockland. As B1gLupu sad. 2- (This is my opinion) Reclamation Sage not to destroy Sol Ring. 3- Should block Zurgo with the Reclamation Sage. As B1gLupu sad. 4- Not token because the Vampiric Tutor. As Pacuvio25 sad. 5- Revellairk puts
Adam p Really,i'm not doing the Master, but tell me if in a match where people have to understand and improve thier metagame (The same as me) players cannot play. IT DOESN'T EXIST.
Thanks Adam p faaqthewurldsbro ***** :D It's really annoying that people who are suppose to play this game very well and teach others( like me) make a BUNCH OF MISTAKES.
I know there is a bit of flack involving the change in hosts and all but i feel the new hosts parnell and Green were the optimal pick. I will miss McDarby and West but I genuinely feel that the series will still be a strong it may have a temporary dip because people will miss the old hosts but I feel the new hosts will overcome the flack because they too are entertaining. On another note, do the precons vs precons again this year, I really enjoyed it last year and it really helps get a feel of which one is the most playable out of box for people who are going to come into the format off of them.
That was very nice. I'm happy to see people still holding the flag for the series, even with McDarby and West gone, I still think this series is the best about commander out here. Besides, Justin lost when he underestimated birthing pod. He should have done greaves + utter end on birthing pod when Stephen Green only had reveillark in play. Instead he cast zurgo and gets destroyed by inferno titan. Last game was an insane series of top decks by stephen green, nothing you can do, although his deck is more consistent by the simple nature of his commander. Good games. Keep bringing them. I like that you guys play more seriously and less sloppy than McDarby and West.
31:05 he put his Ajani out with 5 loyalty counters instead of 4 then upped it to 6. CHEATER! Didn't matter anyway though, I don't think he knows that his -3 is really good.
Lol I really liked how Justin was like "I'm just going to put extra dice on my things" When he already did... when he cast ajani and put extra counters on it.
Parnell still hasn't got the hosting/showman part of the series yet, but I do think he'll get the hang of it in a few more vids. time. Green is adorable as ever. I don't miss McDarby as much as some of the viewers but I WANT DANNY WEST IN THE SHOW ASAP! Danny West is love, Danny West is life. .. also his waifu Elesh Norn.
Fantastic game, especially game 3! So much back and forth there. Those are the best kinds of matches. The video was pretty amusing too. I chuckled all throughout. Go nature!
I like that Justin Parnell seems to be getting more comfortable on camera. His first few videos seemed a bit awkward and now he seems more easy going and fun to watch.
Need to take Sol Ring out when playing 1v1. Always search for Shock lands with Fetch lands unless you need the mana from an ABUR dual. In game 1, Stephen should have destroyed the Sol Ring with Reclamation Sage. He was already on a 3 turn clock from Zurgo. Giving Zurgo +2/+2 wouldn't have changed that. At 38:47, I can't believe Stephen only attacked with Archangel of Thune. I hate it when people hide their mana rocks with their lands.
Sol Ring is banned in the "French" or "Dual" Commander 1v1 variant, that's not what these guys play. They are merely playing the normal Commander game (which is the only one with an official banlist) with just two players.
Im glad starcity kept this series going and i think parnell is perfect host replacement and stephen green co host. Or vice versa ldc. Give em time too get in the groove an be comfortable. Your Doing good, Keep it up guys!
33:22 why wouldn't you also attack with sire of insanity on the first combat? also, if you didn't care about blocking you could give sire double strike and deal 34 damage attacking with both creatures both times. am i missing something? are those tokens flying?
I don't care much about whether or not they make "misplays" I honestly just want them to keep the game state correct. Making plays are subjective and personalized but playing the cards the way they are written is important.
Ajani came in with 5 counters and he gave him a sixth counter, dident rly matter as far as the game goes but he did get that cheat counter he denied at the end there. ^^
I wasn't too happy with the power level of these decks. Commander versus always had a goofiness to it on and off the table which is what made it great cause that's really what commander is about. These decks didn't really have a purpose and were just rammed full of the best cards in the color.
I don't really agree with that on the zurgo build because it's pretty voltron which seems like zurgo's style. The marath deck is horrendously guilty of that though. I didn't really see much neat card interactions or anything.
Joel Turley Zurgo having indestructible and 7 power makes voltron unnecessary IMO. I built him with every boardwipe and removal spell I had. Clear a path and hit 3 times is really easy in his colors :)
It's funny cause he joked about putting extra dice on ajani when he already gave it an extra counter the first time he used it (4+1=6?) and Steven tried to put an extra counter on scavaging ooze but missed the extra counter on arch angel from the life gain in that conbat.
Guys actually i m not really a pro at Mtg but.... Parnell has 2 legendary permanents ( zurgo and the war angel ) . Actually i know that u can have on the battlefield only 1 legendary permanent of your choose. I intend to say , when u have a legendary already on the battlefield and you cast another u have to choose what permanent u want to hold . I played some magic duels and the rules there are like that. Am i wrong??
+John Lennon you may not have more than one copy of a legendary card in play or you sac one of them. you can have as many legends as you want as long as there different cards
Wait, why didn't parnell let him block with 1/1, then utter end the next creature before next combat, and then swing, then taking stephen to 22 commander damage?
i dont undertand why people are complaining about Mc Darby not bieng in teh show. I founded fine i really dont have any complains about it. Good joob guys.
While I hoped that new hosts would mean fewer misplays/cheats, that's not the case. Although I miss the faster pace and the more joking around, I think these guys will be more comfortable after a few videos just like McDarby and West were. (Remember the old videos? GOD THE AWKWARDNESS!) The biggest piece of constructive advice I can offer is to make the flavor in the deck the highest priority. No one wants to watch a combo deck go off every game, an aggro deck have an army each game, or a control deck always have the perfect grip on the board state. Ironically, the most fun decks to watch are the mediocre ones.
Some decks I feel can do that while still keeping flavor. My sharuum the hegemon deck has artifact combos up the wazoo but it feels so in flavor for the commander given how she is an esper figure of influence who loves riddles. It makes the deck feel like a giant puzzle box. I just hate it when a commander deck feels like the commander is just there for the colors. No cool interactions or flavor in the deck at all.
Game 3 Ajani had an extra counter (after first activation he moved it to 6). Also, if Stephen had played game 3 right he could have easily won that game on the turn he killed Ajani.
Cheese wiz! Their mana base is EXPENSIVE !!!! Too bad the bulk of us can't buy old duals without mortgaging our house/selling a kidney. Maybe one day it will work out.
Well I mean it's not the same without Mcdarby... I mean he is the best. I fear now that he is gone I won't see anymore blue shenanigans, but I understand that shit happens and he is on a break. But in all honesty as long as Glenn Jones never comes back I'm happy. Lol If you guys are looking for some fun decks or just a fun way to create more videos I'd recommend maybe going back and replaying previous commander versus series commanders with your own personal flair. Another fun thing is maybe trying to get some other StarCity writers to play commander just to change pace from user competitive formats to a fun one. Names that come to mind are; Brian Braun-Duin, Chris Vanmeter, Todd Anderson, Cedric Phillips, pretty mush get some other goofy characters in there.
Justin Parnell and Stephen Green, Imma let you finish, but David McDarby and Danny West were the best Commander Versus Series players of all time. OF ALL TIME! Seriously though... I'll miss those guys. Doesn't mean I won't watch the new episodes, but man...
There were so many minor and quite major mistakes during the game that it makes me want to have McDarby and West back :( Also the interaction between McDarby and West was much better and funnier, thus I enjoyed their videos more.
I really dislike decks wich dependsa lot of their commanders. I believe this was this Zurgo's downfall. The Marath deck in the long run could cast a lot of creatures and recover it's tempo, while the Zurgo deck lacked that edge. I do have a Zurgo deck that is totally different of this one and it seems so much better, because it's fast and does not need it's commander to win the match. Zurgo must be the leader of an assault, with his buddies taking everything out alongside him, watching his back. My oppinion though.
I don´t think its issue was depending on a commander, rather not fully committing to said strategy. The more he´d commit to getting Zurgo to hit 3 times as fast as possible, the less interactive the games would be, more discard, more boardwipes, the deck wouldn´t be fun to play against. My guess, they decided to go with a more interactive build of said strategy so it seems more spectator friendly and doesn´t come off as mean n.n This leads to some awkward situations ,I believe since it´s not completely focused on going all in with Zurgo.
Jehovah It's good to see Zurgo variants. I'm actually seeing some problems with mine now, but I am making some changes and it's getting better. And I'm liking your strategy, I just don't think it is so fun as smashing people.
Jehovah I understand all of this. But this archetype, the smash people's face, was the only one I've not tried it out. And since I despise Kaalia and dislike all other Mardu Commanders, and I really wanted a Mardu deck, I saw in Zurgo all the potential I was seeking. I understand it's not the most wise or efficient way to build Zurgo deck, but I kind of like of what has become. And last, but not least, I don't play any tournments with my commander decks so I just build them to have some fun.
It's a shame that without McDarby and West, I don't give any amount of shits about this series anymore.
What happened too McDarby and West?
SlifertheCanadian I can only imagine that McDarby is in the hospital because someone shot him for being such a pretentious prick.
As for Danny... I'd have to think he got stuck in some sort of awesomeness vortex created by how fantastic he is, and every NASA scientist cannot find a way to get him out of it yet.

And give him trample 🤔
It should be Zurgo VS Ruhan so its the must attack commanders vs each other
This was pretty good, I gotta say. The McDarby/West duo is a legend that will never die, but you guys are doing great!
On a sidenote, watching Stephen miss his Voice trigger on the same turn he played the Voice... **frustration intensifies**
Great show guys, I enjoyed the new duo! Props for the Archer shirt, btw. :)
Mistake in the early minutes, you should ALWAYS fetch a shockland tapped instead of an original dual if you are not going to use the mana.
Is one point of damage Daniel Stead . And sometimes it depends on winning or losing :D
Daniel Stead As we know, Green has Jitte in his deck, so the difference between 14 and 15 is huge.
You may want to represent removal for a creature (with the untapped land(s))
1- Fetchland to not put Shockland. As B1gLupu sad.
2- (This is my opinion) Reclamation Sage not to destroy Sol Ring.
3- Should block Zurgo with the Reclamation Sage. As B1gLupu sad.
4- Not token because the Vampiric Tutor. As Pacuvio25 sad.
5- Revellairk puts
Your sad.

Why everyone is sad? Are they depressed or something? :(
Stephen Green made a misplay at 4:10. He should waited to block Zurgo until the second combat step to save him from taking 1 damage.
Bless you for repping Zurgo, Justin, I've needed some idea about what kind of deck to use him in.
I know there is a bit of flack involving the change in hosts and all but i feel the new hosts parnell and Green were the optimal pick. Good to see old decks returning. Wouldn't mind seeing an updated version of the Grimgrin EDH; heh heh!
Wow, a 5 loyalty caller of the pride!
Returns 3 creatures with Reviellark, what a freaking cheater.
I like that Justin Parnell seems to be getting more comfortable on camera. His first few videos seemed a bit awkward and now he seems more easy going and fun to watch.
@37:00 why not use ajani -2 on zurgo with aurelia trigger? That would be near lethal and get rid of the angel

Im glad starcity kept this series going and i think parnell is perfect host replacement and stephen green co host. Or vice versa ldc. Give em time too get in the groove an be comfortable. Your Doing good, Keep it up guys!
Wow that was amazing. Stephen Green you're awesome xD
Cheat count in this episode blew up exponentially. That was kind of crazy how much they messed up, god damn.
33:22 why wouldn't you also attack with sire of insanity on the first combat? also, if you didn't care about blocking you could give sire double strike and deal 34 damage attacking with both creatures both times. am i missing something? are those tokens flying?

All these comments...
"Awkward Awkward Awkward. Misplay Misplay Misplay."
Shush and just have a good time.
what was that first turn land at 1:00?
Aidan Lio thx
@4:00-4:50 why didn't he take the first hit then block the second hit? .-. because he took more damage by blocking first
Cheat count. Ajani entered with an extra counter :P
That ajani came in with 1 too many counters in game 3 and brimaz didnt make a cat when Parnell couldnt Kor Haven it.
Brimaz makes a cat as well
Brimaz did make a token when Parnell couldn't Kor Haven it.
33:00 i get that his ult is bonkers, but you could have done 36 dmg of you minus'd ajani
ANyone know how Justin had an Arid Mesa in his deck yet it's not in the decklist? Is it even the same deck as in the decklist?
Ajani came in with 5 counters and he gave him a sixth counter, dident rly matter as far as the game goes but he did get that cheat counter he denied at the end there. ^^
Are these decks made specifically for 1v1 gameplay?
Wests' meandering banter will be sorely missed.
I wasn't too happy with the power level of these decks. Commander versus always had a goofiness to it on and off the table which is what made it great cause that's really what commander is about. These decks didn't really have a purpose and were just rammed full of the best cards in the color.

APeiceofPi I was talking more about how it seemed more appropriate flavorwise.
In the third game, I'm curious as to why Justin didn't give master of cruelties flying from Ajani and get in there while he could.
Can you make video with Commander 2014 4 player pod and now white commander deck :D ?
You guys should do a Standard only commander deck battle! :D
... And Danny West is...?
I think Green forgot the 1st Voice trigger...
I can't believe Voice of Resurgence triggers were forgotten.
Burning Anger on Zurgo. He doesn't have to attack and just wrecks. Also McDarby vs Danny
It's funny cause he joked about putting extra dice on ajani when he already gave it an extra counter the first time he used it (4+1=6?) and Steven tried to put an extra counter on scavaging ooze but missed the extra counter on arch angel from the life gain in that conbat.
Parnel cheated with loyalty on Ajani first time.
Around 31:53, when Justin plays Ajani, he put a dice on it for 5, but it enters with 4 loyalty. He +1's it, and moves it up to +2. tsk tsk
Guys actually i m not really a pro at Mtg but.... Parnell has 2 legendary permanents ( zurgo and the war angel ) . Also since when does Reveillark bring back 3 creatures? Have I missed something?
In the third game, why didn't he attack with the demon? It would have untapped anyways, due to Aurelia...
So why exactly was a bloodstained mire in a naya deck? Or did I miss something?
Fetches mountains, that's pretty important.
I know but it searches for a mountain or a swamp. I thought that wasn't allowed in EDH it has to correspond with the commanders color?
Stephen Brown The fetches do not have a colour or tap for a colour. They are purely colourless.
Ajani was given an extra counter, it starts at 4 not 5
i dont undertand why people are complaining about Mc Darby not bieng in teh show. I founded fine i really dont have any complains about it. Good joob guys.
Did he tap maze of ith to cast Zurgo in game 3?
Or is that a Homeward Path? Kinda looks like the commander arsenal maze of ith.
We need to see a match involving Kresh the Bloodbraided, and Sharuum the Hegemon.
I want Parnell and West as the regulars!
These were great but I found Mcdarby huge fun to watch... I don't know why so many people hated him
If there is the option to destroy a Gavony Township, you destroy that Gavony Township.
at the 31st minute, Parnell casts Ajani and puts it to 6 loyalty with the +1 ability. It should have been 5.
what happened to Darby?? someone tell me the story?
In the second game they forgot the token by voice, triggered by the tutor.
what happened to darby and west?
These guys are hilarious!
While I hoped that new hosts would mean fewer misplays/cheats, that's not the case. Although I miss the faster pace and the more joking around, I think these guys will be more comfortable after a few videos just like McDarby and West were. (Remember the old videos? GOD THE AWKWARDNESS!)
The biggest piece of constructive advice I can offer is to make the flavor in the deck the highest priority.
No cool interactions or flavor in the deck at all.
am i the only one that noticed ajani starts at 4 and he used his plus one to be at 6?
Game 3 Ajani had an extra counter (after first activation he moved it to 6). Also, if Stephen had played game 3 right he could have easily won that game on the turn he killed Ajani.
Cheese wiz! Their mana base is EXPENSIVE !!!! Too bad the bulk of us can't buy old duals without mortgaging our house/selling a kidney. Maybe one day it will work out.
Zurgo is just so fun!
Chestache is so young here!
reclamation sage is the only creature who actually smashed a helm this game
Why did he bring back three creatures with reveillark?
i was wondering the same thing.
nvm, they caught it
IdsFear Yep.
Love a good game of topdeck hero
Well I mean it's not the same without Mcdarby... I mean he is the best. I fear now that he is gone I won't see anymore blue shenanigans, but I understand that shit happens and he is on a break. But in all honesty as long as Glenn Jones never comes back I'm happy. Lol
If you guys are looking for some fun decks or just a fun way to create more videos I'd recommend maybe going back and replaying previous commander versus series commanders with your own personal flair.

but sol ring is banned in 1v1, right?
Rule zero
Has anyone ever successfully formed the aurelia/stolen identity combo in GTC draft... because that'd be hilarious...
31:28 cheatcount 1.
AJANI STARTS AT 4. GOD DAMMIT I WAS SCREAMING AT MY COMPUTER THE REST OF THE VIDEO
Justin Parnell and Stephen Green, Imma let you finish, but David McDarby and Danny West were the best Commander Versus Series players of all time. OF ALL TIME!
Seriously though... I'll miss those guys. Doesn't mean I won't watch the new episodes, but man...
STEPHEN GREEN IS BEST GUY EVER ON CAMERA!
Didn't he destroys gavony township with wasteland?
There were so many minor and quite major mistakes during the game that it makes me want to have McDarby and West back :( Also the interaction between McDarby and West was much better and funnier, thus I enjoyed their videos more.
31:20 cheat, ajani would have 5 counters, not 6, im sure it was a miscount but it could really mess up the game.
Stephen Green is so sneaky
I demand Mcdarby
I like these guys well enough, but I miss McDarby and West ):
Glad to not constantly hear "Cheat count"
He could've cast utter end on the token and won earlier!
You guys Are fine but Where are D-West and the other guy

"orc party dot Orc"
JP overpaid for Zurgo around 17:15
Zurgo is a five-drop.
Aaaaand that's why you should use the french banlist when playing 1v1 ^^
Greath piece otherwise :)
Grim grin vs. tristoni
Brimaz is good kitty.
Mc Darby vs West
