For the sake of posterity; There was a secret tech with Capricious Efreet West could have unleashed in game 1. Target just Kozilek for his permanents, then target Batterskull for yours. Hold priority and bring Batterskull back to hand. The trigger still has a target, so it'll still resolve. Now you get to roll a d6 where 1-3 destroys Kozilek, and 4-6 also destroys Kozilek. Wouldn't have saved him, but it would have been cool.
letsgetsomeshoes1239 But netting 4 cards in hand is significantly worse than netting 4 cards already on the field. If it wasn't 1v1 then Kozilek players like us wouldn't care as much ;)
I just don't get why Danny West wasted his turn in the first game casting a Solemn, and not equipping a Sword of Feast and Famine on his commander. That either lets him hit David for an additional 6, putting him at 18 commander damage, or it forces him to block with the Palladium Myr, which means he wouldn't have been able to cast Kozilek on the following turn.
I know this reply is super late. Danny couldn't play sword because mcdarby had an untapped null brooch with 2 mana open. And I think he was dissuaded from cast godo because he already had batterskull on the field
I feel like Danny could've won game one if he had traded batterskulls at about 7:17. It would've forced McDarby to spend a bunch of mana the next turn if he wanted another germ token, but Danny could've just put the batterskull on Urabrask. Then he would've had a more aggressive board; it could've potentially been the momentum he needed to win.
+Talbot Solenberger Realistically all that would have done is caused David to recast Batterskull immediately, so still no effective swing frome Danny. Then Hellkite to come down the turn that Kozilek did and Kozilek to drop next turn. Not much of a difference; what killed Danny was an inability to effectively deal with Kozilek.
It's the amount of damage the opposing commander has done. If a single commander deal 21(I think that's the number) points of damage to a player, that player loses.
This video is pretty old, and the "no mana outside of color identity" rule has been abolished. It was pretty dumb tbh also to answer your question, with the old rule anyone was still able to use generic mana. the rule was that if the color was *not* in your commander's color identity you would get colorless instead.
David, you need to do us proud and genuinely superior blue players a blue white deck, I don't think I have seen you play those colors in anything besides Zedruu and that just doesn't count. I would love to see a Brago deck. I mean there is a lot of fun to be had with him. Maybe even showing Danny how to really play Damia... Just food for thought.
Well, this will probably never be seen by any SCG players, but I would love to see a commander versus series with Memnarch vs Bosh, Iron Golem! :) (I play Memnarch irl)
Your knollspine dragon is a 7/6 and with the caged sun it is an 8/7 and if you have the sword attached to it the dragon becomes a 10/7 first strike which would have killed the eldrazi and kept the dragon alive
Damn, I was hoping to see Ruination and Vandalblast, 2 mono red EDH Staples. I personally run both in my Purphoros deck with no regrets, LOL. Those would have been mean and very fun (for Danny).
Danny borrowed my list. I originally had a bunch of non-basic LD but my old playgroup was not pleased. I meant for this deck to be underpowered since my group was inexperienced. Vandalblast used to be in there. Can't remember why I cut it. Too many artifact hate cards? Once again wanted to make it slightly underpowered. Into the Core and Viashino Herectic provided the help when needed.
Conor O'Donnell Aww, gotcha. Well Mono Red sucks with removal. So I take all I can get. I run Karn since he is one of the few options to rid of OP enchantments and such. Damn red spells and their fire-burn only :P
so you could have blocked with your first strike dragon on the 10/10 gyre since your dragon was a 10/6 first striker. +1/+1 from caged and you would have won if you attacked with the 10/6 next turn.....
+MaraMars ™ because by technicalities urborg is colourless and doesn't have anywhere on the card a black mana symbol, therefore perfectly legal in commander. If you were instead wondering about the choice of running it, well you work with what you had, there were no wastes then so you had to use all non basics, and urborg is just another land you can run. also lets your eye of ugin tap for mana
Mostly just silly little intro stuff like the beginning where we have cards on our faces like morons. Very little to do with actual Magic games if at all.
One very important, elephant in the room, gotta get off my chest question....danny boy, how on gods green earth have you come across all foil cards for every single deck you own lol?!
pdrohberg do you.know what all is dust does? The monolith should gave stayed i believe. Unless it is colored and also not the monolith i am thinking of, if so then my bad.
I used to watch these as they came out. I miss these guys so much, I come back and rewatch these videos a whole 7 years later.
Same here
Me too
Same
They were so good, and gone too soon.
9 and 1/2 for me lmao

dennis mcdennis That wouldn't have mattered because colorless players don't care if Kozilek dies. Thanks, you just gave me 4 more cards :3
letsgetsomeshoes1239 But netting 4 cards in hand is significantly worse than netting 4 cards already on the field. If it wasn't 1v1 then Kozilek players like us wouldn't care as much ;)
At 22:45, McDarby could have activated his Mutavault, pumped it with Mishra's Factory, and blocked the Solemn Simulacrum.
I just don't get why Danny West wasted his turn in the first game casting a Solemn, and not equipping a Sword of Feast and Famine on his commander.

16:19 might be one of my favorite declare attackers ever.
Oh man, that painful FFX laughing scene. What a great shoutout.
I miss Commander Versus Series with David and Danny... I don't watch the new ones as much...
The whole point of these videos are personality... otherwise your just watching EDH which is like... just play EDH then...
XelNagaStalker EDH decks are very expensive tho
Jehovah It is definitely possible, i have made a few very nice budget decks but they were modern.
Jehovah Are we talking about the same David McDarby here? Because I have no idea what you're referring to.
+Remy Preshong do what i do, focus on a deck for a while, buy cards over time and make good trades.
David was right, the Eldrazi are coming back :D
Most entertaining commander videos by far. Awesome vid guys!
*Casts Mind Stone* "Do you mind?" Best part of the whole video
Always fun to watch these! :)
Why was the o-stone that was drawn at 14:12 not cast and popped immediately? instead he cast feast and famine
Thanks to show the Kozi deck i was waiting for long time your version because i had my own kozi deck
So how does sequencing affect Ulamog and Torpor Orb at 44:58 again? XD
8:15 The year is actually 20XY, because X and X are the same, whereas X and Y can be different, for example, 2015
i just re watched this episode and now i understand the 20XX reference. Mind Blown
+JenxRodwell
That's because McDarby had Null Brooch in play, and the mana to use it ;)
Here's the thing
I feel like Danny could've won game one if he had traded batterskulls at about 7:17. god i love watching these, both of them together are just hilarious.
That last game was so close! Good to see mono red gettin some love. He seriously almost had him even though he had two eldrazi on the field
I built an Ulamog deck because the indestructibility lets you play with fun artifacts like world slayer and pariah shield
12:12 is that a DotA Pudge reference?
Diablo I, the butcher
38:00 Diablo 2 didnt have the Butcher, you're thinking of diablo 1
@jenx, this was explained in the following turn when he casted solemn. He thought his mindstone was s sol ring ;p
can anyone explain what the counters under their health bars are supposed to be? never really understood it and wondered if anybody knew what it was.
It's the amount of damage the opposing commander has done. If a single commander deal 21(I think that's the number) points of damage to a player, that player loses.
Josh Smith ok cool i thought it might have something to do with that. thanks :D
that green counter in the last match represents poison damage. you get 10, you lose.
Miss you both.
I am making a Blue/artifact commander deck with Arcum Dagsson as my commander. I'd like to see you guys maybe try this one if you haven't anyway.
Oh man, Mario Twins. That's an old classic.
I love the commander versus series
Does Danny have Blood Moon in his deck. It would be amazing. Also, frankly, I have no idea if it's band or not.
"I believe the year is 20xx" --That Megaman X reference though. ;)
I have a question: If your commander is Sliver hivelord, can you have generic mana in your deck?
yesss
This video is pretty old, and the "no mana outside of color identity" rule has been abolished. It was pretty dumb tbh
also to answer your question, with the old rule anyone was still able to use generic mana. the rule was that if the color was *not* in your commander's color identity you would get colorless instead.
Lazula you
Also, did I miss something in game 2? Is there a reason he can cast Urabrask for 4.
Chris Butler, Eye Of Ugin
More like Danny Worst! Amirite fellas?
HEY OH
Danny West I read this and thought oh that's mean and then I saw the name and I fell out of my chair
one of you guys should do eather a ulasht the hate seed deck or memnarch would be a interesting setup eather way
Let's all revel in the idea that a year ago David mcdarby called "fight for zendikar".
David, you need to do us proud and genuinely superior blue players a blue white deck, I don't think I have seen you play those colors in anything besides Zedruu and that just doesn't count. I would love to see a Brago deck. I mean there is a lot of fun to be had with him. Maybe even showing Danny how to really play Damia...

do the mono red showdown, Krenko vs. Purphoros
Well, this will probably never be seen by any SCG players, but I would love to see a commander versus series with Memnarch vs Bosh, Iron Golem! :) (I play Memnarch irl)
Sarcasm doesn't translate well through comments, I guess.
Grant Gutierrez my apologies sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar! It was a misunderstanding on my part
Interesting how helm of possession is so bad with unwinding clock...
You know I am trying to go to sleep and then *ping* New versus series.... i'm not sleeping for another hour..
Your knollspine dragon is a 7/6 and with the caged sun it is an 8/7 and if you have the sword attached to it the dragon becomes a 10/7 first strike which would have killed the eldrazi and kept the dragon alive
true story
Why? Kozilek is a 12/12 and Ulamog is indestructible.

TheDreno33
Agreed. Run Karn and Spine of Ish Sah for those reasons. Wish Red was explored further in the color pie
I'm new to commander but I know using teferi mage of zhalfir is a dick move. I'll just use sun quan instead!
That's almost just as bad..... For those that aren't prepared....
Oh goodie!
so you could have blocked with your first strike dragon on the 10/10 gyre since your dragon was a 10/6 first striker. +1/+1 from caged and you would have won if you attacked with the 10/6 next turn.....
Indestructible.
Daniel Ginder kozilek wasn't indestructible
Kozilek is a 12/12
Nice sleeves David :p
Why have an Urborg in a colorless deck?
+MaraMars ™ because by technicalities urborg is colourless and doesn't have anywhere on the card a black mana symbol, therefore perfectly legal in commander.
If you were instead wondering about the choice of running it, well you work with what you had, there were no wastes then so you had to use all non basics, and urborg is just another land you can run.
also lets your eye of ugin tap for mana
OMG tht 20xx reference i insta love u :]
Super fighting robot! Meganman! People better know why I said this...
What's the 1% that's scripted?
Mostly just silly little intro stuff like the beginning where we have cards on our faces like morons. Very little to do with actual Magic games if at all.
Capricius Efreet says up to 2 of your opponents creatures id of just chosen Koz for the 50% chance
*Up to 2 nonland permanets
In the first game why did he destroy capricious efreet of all things? If he got lucky it could have destroyed David's general...
Uhh because it didn't matter at all because David had a Steel Hellkite token on the field that would've destroyed Capricious anyway....
holy crap you knew it. eldrazi are back........
That viashino heretic! haha!
Do a commander game where one of you uses Sliver Hivelord.
One day Danny will rip a Bonfire and fall out of his chair in surprise, haha!
I thought Urborg's color identity was black. Is it actually colorless?
It is colorless.
McDarby is a bully. Take him down Danny West!
urabrask. is a delight.
Kozilek for the win
Gamble, shatterstorm.
If you want make fun of red, play against a tuned kiki jiki
Purphoros and Krenko are also very gross
One very important, elephant in the room, gotta get off my chest question....danny boy, how on gods green earth have you come across all foil cards for every single deck you own lol?!
He doesn't own them. Star City provides the cards for these games. Melek/Tolsimir are the only ones that THEY own.
@@ethannissim3588 yeah because it’s a Store
they hanged that color producing rule when oath came out so he had to make colors he can't make colorless anymore
*changed
david looks like wojciech szczesny
cheat count #1: 'All is Dust' exiled 'Vashino', 'Artisan of Kozilek' can't return it.
sacrifice not exile rtfc
brb buying a vashino heretic
Don't forget to get it in foil. It doesn't work right if it's not shiny.
Wait, how the hell did Mcdarby cast All is Dust for 6, it's a 7 mana spell, you guys seriously don't read your own cards or something?
grim monolith costs 2 and produces 3 mana, he even counted the mana up to 7...
Yeah, but he cast All is Dust in game 2, with no Monolith on board, so how did he cast it then?
Chris Butler he had monolith on board game 2, he casted it just before All is Dust, then it got blown up in response to All is Dust.
pdrohberg do you.know what all is dust does? The monolith should gave stayed i believe. Unless it is colored and also not the monolith i am thinking of, if so then my bad.
allthingsMTG Danny blew it up in reaponse with the viashino's R(1) effect
Danny could have casted his Kozilek on like turn 4 in the first game. So confused to as to wh he didn't.
Up to karn it was fun. Way to broken card that planewalker..
lol just cast blood moon\
That doesn't do anything. He just produces colourless mana.
New rules
Oh yup my mistake lol I forgot that there was a rules change.
#lovincommandervsswag
Um aren't you supposed to have 20 life?
it's genuinely difficult to watch danny west play magic.
First
nice that you have a mute option, otherwise i would have stoped this video after 10sec. (you really should find a more interesting way of talking)
So glad David is gone
