(Choi) We're back with the start of a new season and the start of a new set! Let us know what you thought? Should Stephen have played better? Should they have killed Parnell first? Was this the best way for someone to die ever on Commander VS? This week's game was crazy but next week we're coming back with the MOST requested theme of all time!
+Star City Games Somebody was killed with Triskaidekaphobia. I think you can just stop the entire series now, because nothing this amazing will ever happen again in all of Commander.
+Star City Games I think watching Wes slowly bleeding out and being unable to stop Triskaidekaphobia is going to be one of my most favorite moments out of all the Commander Versus videos. The other being watching as the other 3 guys were unable to kill Wes with the Phage deck, with his little song as he killed Stephen Green xD
I would just like to give a message to everyone who complains about when they misplay....Shut up. I would love to watch you people play a big commander game and comment on every single misplay you do. These guys build these decks in a short amount of time, so I'm sure they don't have a 100% knowledge of everything the decks do. They are human, so what if they make a mistake here and there. They put on an awesome and entertaining weekly show about our favorite card game. Enjoy it.
No way Steven should lose a point for Realms Uncharted, he followed proper Commander etiquette and searched during someone else's turn as to not interrupt the flow of the game. Also he had to search for 4 cards and if I remember correctly that means he has extra time to search through his deck, not just 30 seconds.
+jereme ruffner I agree with you. If it were a normal search for one card he should've been punished but that time he had to search for 4. Reset the counter for each search or give him more time.
So Justin was massively misplaying that whole game, because Drana's effect only puts +1/+1's onto ATTACKING creatures, and he was putting them on ALL his creatures.
Ryan Ballou yes, but he put the counters on creatures that didn't attack, even though the clause is that they had to be attacking to be given the counters
A win with Triskaidekaphobia is by far the best thing to happen in a commander video. I was hoping to see The Gitrog Monster win, but it was a great battle to watch. I also did not realize Odrik was that good, I opened two of them and even though I read the card like 5 times I still thought it was only during your own combat
It only took you guys 3 seasons to make these audible without me having to crank up the system volume to the max. ;D Thanks for playing Magic for me. You guys are the last piece of mtg that is currently active in my life.
THESE ARE FANTASTIC! I'm a new player and these video are so great to learn about varieties of cards and the editing and recording of it all makes it so approachable for beginners, keep up the good work guys! Subbed.
So two things I noticed during the game, 1-When Drana attacks she only buffs your creatures who also attacked. 2- when Wes attacked John at about time 1:20:00, his creatures all had flying and John blocked a soldier with Giest honored Munk who does not have flying, therefore John should have been at 3 instead, not a huge deal but still. Other than those 2 things, I enjoyed this video and will continue to enjoy your videos :)
Really enjoy the commander versus. I look forward to it every Wednesday and it's one of the few youtube videos I laugh out loud at. keep up the great work, you guys are great
Drana only gives +1/+1 counters to attacking creatures, Justin. Geist-Honored Monk does not have flying so it can't block the flying soldier and it has vigilance so it does not tap when it is attacking, John. Great video!
Am I missing something with Justin's vampires are 59:06? Doesn't Drana only put counting on other attacking creatures you control or was there an effect I was missing?
Why did Justin get counters on each of his creatures on his second swing with Drana? Doesn't Drana only give counters to attacking creatures? He only attacked with Drana alone.
+blabla123567890 they aren't using Gitrog correctly either.... Whenever one or more lands goes into the grave from anywhere draw a card. Meaning he missed so many draw triggers not only from his lands but other players lands.
Awesome as ever! Someday I would like to see you guys playing: Nin, the Pain Artist Alesha, who smiles at death Marieke Ri Berit Roon of the Hidden Realms
Gotta play the Wise Guy this time. First time at 46:20 Justin puts counters on all this creatures after attacking with Drana, but Drana reads "put a +1/+1 counter on each attacking creature". Happens a few times throughout the game.
I know this is an older video, but i recently built a Gitrog deck, so im revisiting this one. Im pretty sure Satyr Wayfinder ony lets u draw a single card since Gitrog reads: Whenever one or more lands.. Correct me if im wrong, just making sure im not playing incorrectly myself =)
I think they missed the fact @23:00 that Infectious Curse can enchant any legal player, including jon with hexproof, since enchanting players only has the targeting restriction when it's a spell on the stack.
I love how JP is slipping counters onto his non-attacking vampires even though Drana says to put the counters on "Attacking creatures". cheatyface level over 9000
As mentioned, Drana puts only counters on attacking creatures. Additionally, the champion doesn't work that way. It says that creatures of your opponents that have less power than him can't block your creatures. Not that your less strong creatures are unblockable. Then, that monk can not block a flying soldier token... Last, but not least: All those missed Gitrog triggers...
What's wrong with playing with bulk, Parnell? In fact, that is my request for you guys. To show that the Commander format can be played no matter how much or how little money one has, build budget Commander lists. Rules: Your general can be 5 dollars or less, while every other card has to be 3 dollars or less. Also love the series and can't wait to see more!
#13 lol great finish! Each of the commanders or strong and great for sure! Oh and live the mats! Not sure if it has been done but one mana cost commanders would be super fun! Could do two headed giant white vs red!
Justin had a miss play when he just attacked with Drana! He put a +1/+1 counter on all his other vampires even though they didn't attack! Drana specifically says "on each attacking creature"! Way to go Justin!
Great episode! Nice to see Wes being better at piloting decks, but i'm a bit disappointed at the shenanigans played at the end, showing that card completely changed the outcome of the game. Also: Bladewing the Risen as a suggestion for a commander!
I might be wrong since I can't exactly tell what land is under Justin's mountain, but to get a black mans off of molten slag heap you have to pay 1 mana thus making it so he's one mana short to cast heroes downfall??
First Off, Great Episode!!! I Really Want To Buy These Playmats!! Second, it was a very flavorful episode and I enjoyed all these commanders. But the triskadeckophobia was kind of not that great of a play. I more enjoyed the dings Stephen was getting for saving players. I Love This Series and All You Guys! Stay Groovy from Illinois!
I was looking at Justin's build for Olivia and noticed he was running Elusive Tormentor. I thought it wasn't legal in a black/ red deck due to flipping into a blue creature. Is this correct?
+Stephen Gasior Cards that flip into a different colored card are considered both colors for commander. So Elusive Tormentor shouldn't be in the deck officially. However, I'd personally let someone play it in a vampire themed deck anyway.
I was a little sad when I looked at the decklists and noticed Stephen wasn't playing Herald of Leshrac in his list. Pretty sure you can stack the triggers so that you can take an opponents land then sac it to Gitrog. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will tell me :)
these playmats are so much easier on the eyes. thank you!
+TheMagicManSam I didn't notice why is was a little easier to watch this season but yeah, they are. :)
46:20 Drana only puts counters on attacking creatures
I bet Justina knew that the entire time.
+Trey Tyson and again at 59:00
(Choi) We're back with the start of a new season and the start of a new set! Let us know what you thought? Should Stephen have played better? Should they have killed Parnell first? Was this the best way for someone to die ever on Commander VS? This week's game was crazy but next week we're coming back with the MOST requested theme of all time!
is star city going to make commander vs playmats like the ones featured in the video?
+Star City Games Are you finally doing Nephilims as commanders?
+Star City Games Somebody was killed with Triskaidekaphobia. I think you can just stop the entire series now, because nothing this amazing will ever happen again in all of Commander.
Don't you think an Archenemy would be awsome? Everybody against Wes Wise 😂

They put on an awesome and entertaining weekly show about our favorite card game. Enjoy it.
I really like these new playmats. Much easier to read on screen cards! Keep up the good work!
No Ban-List Commander! Braids vs. Emrakul vs. Rofellos vs. Erayo!
@46:22 - Jon wasn't reading Drana very closely - she only puts counters on attacking creatures, not all creatures.
@59:07 - He did it again!
+Paul Jones reading is hard for some people, i guess, and its justin's card, not jons
Whoops. My bad. Tryin' to make a "right" out of all these "wrongs" I guess.
Yeah, I saw this and was going to post it. Read the cards guys.
So Justin was massively misplaying that whole game, because Drana's effect only puts +1/+1's onto ATTACKING creatures, and he was putting them on ALL his creatures.
I thought I was the only one that noticed that.
RevenantBacon +1/+1 counters stay on the creatures even after combat because they are counters
Ryan Ballou yes, but he put the counters on creatures that didn't attack, even though the clause is that they had to be attacking to be given the counters
So many missed Gitrog triggers, so many wrong triggers... Still entertaining.
Justine Misused Drana's ability when he attacked Stephen at 46:19
Give Stephen his 0.5 points back! He was searching on someone else's turn!!!!!!!!!!
#TEAMSTEPHEN
A win with Triskaidekaphobia is by far the best thing to happen in a commander video. I was hoping to see The Gitrog Monster win, but it was a great battle to watch. Stephen should not have lost a point for that search. He wasn't doing it on his turn and he had to find 4 cards.
Also, when he first played Gitrog monster he forgot to play an additional land.
Omg the win though. Easily my favorite moment so far on Commander vs.
Absolutely love everything about these!
I didn't think it would be interesting to watch an entire EDH game, boy was I wrong! Great show guys, gonna go diggin' in the vaults now!
Really enjoy the commander versus. I look forward to it every Wednesday and it's one of the few youtube videos I laugh out loud at. keep up the great work, you guys are great
That triskaidekophobia though!! Hahaha possibly my favorite video I've seen. Finally subscribed after bein too lazy but so worth it love this channel.
Drana only gives +1/+1 counters to attacking creatures, Justin. Geist-Honored Monk does not have flying so it can't block the flying soldier and it has vigilance so it does not tap when it is attacking, John. Great video!
Stephen shouldn't have lost a point because he had to get 4 cards.
At 1:03:34 does Sthephen miss two draw triggers from Gitrog?
+Hermann Mann Yes
He also missed saying a land a few times but beside the point. There was a lot to remember
Am I missing something with Justin's vampires are 59:06?
Doesn't Drana only put counting on other attacking creatures you control or was there an effect I was missing?
+Devin Kerr he does it multiple times
I'm so glad to see videos like this. These decks are all pretty amazing and fun to watch.
Emeria, the Sky Ruin functioned as a regular old plains in this game...
once again sick decks hilarious side comments and great gameplay love you guys
Suggestion: Gatewatch Archenemy using three of the Origins 'walker commanders VS an Ulamog/Kozilek commander!
this video was simply awesome, and I love how it displayed each legend.
What an excellent start to the season. I love you four so much :)
When Steven brought out Gitrog, he could've played an extra land, right?
Why did Justin get counters on each of his creatures on his second swing with Drana? Doesn't Drana only give counters to attacking creatures? He only attacked with Drana alone.
+AlCahonies He misplayed.
Argh Justin that is not how Drana works, only attacking creatures get the bonus :/
You always learn xD
+blabla123567890 they aren't using Gitrog correctly either.... Whenever one or more lands goes into the grave from anywhere draw a card. Meaning he missed so many draw triggers not only from his lands but other players lands.
+Britt Briscoe no, it's saying when it goes into your graveyard.
They did forget to sack some lands
+Britt Briscoe "Whenever one or more land cards are put into YOUR graveyard from anywhere, draw a card."
+Keith Weidner Yep, missed the your but he still missed so many triggers
+Britt Briscoe Yeah, they always do. These guys are the champions of failing to RTFC.
Stephen shouldn't lose a point for Realms Uncharted imo. He had to search for 4 cards.
"Playmat YYYAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
I did what I was told.
Episode 2? Did I miss episode one or is there a mistake in the title?
+DementedPrankster (Choi) Shhhhhhhhhhh :) Fixed!
I think Wes should get the bonus point for achieving his theme the best. And Justin gets 1.3 points for winning with triskadekaphobia.
Wes, I always love your decks. Win/Lose, you always got my vote cause you play the decks I would, myself, play.
Cool video I like the gitrog monster and that trisdaidekaphobia was hilarious
1:24:45 Geist Honored Monk does not have flying and hence it cannot block any of Wes's creatures.
It does have vigilance though, so Jon could have blocked both creatures that Stephen used to kill him.
OMFG YUS! They played the Commander I wanted to see the most! THE GITROG MONSTER! OMFG YUS!
I am hooked on these seasons
Are the Sigarda and Odric miss labeled on their corners?
+Jeremy Nelson yes
I noticed that to
no because these are the new odric and sigarda
+skaterelgamero the players playing them on the bottom
Stephen plays his commander for the first time and immediately forgets he can play a second land
Great start to the season
46:30 Drana only puts counters on attacking creatures :)
Commander starts at 11:26
Awesome as ever!
Someday I would like to see you guys playing:
Nin, the Pain Artist
Alesha, who smiles at death
Marieke Ri Berit
Roon of the Hidden Realms
I am so happy with the new playmats. They're much less busy and it's easier to see what's actually going on.
How did Geist-Honored Monk block the Soldier token at 1:24:37? She only has Vigilance and all of Wes's creatures have Flying.
so nice and clean playmats!
Wes and john's commanders are switched on the layout
+Alex Proctor i think is their names that are switched
+glenn bohms No, Jon and Wes' decks were swapped in the opening couple minutes for intros.
+Alex Proctor If you cared to watch the whole video, they switch eventually.
at 59:00 Justin used drana's ability incorrectly
+Broseff26z yes he did! only attacking creatures get the counters from Drana! :)
How can Parnell use Elusive Tormentor? With the flip side being blue I thought that would break the color identity?
+Polemou You are correct.
Whoo whoo! It might just be my head, but it sounds like the audio has been tuned up a bit.
Gotta play the Wise Guy this time. First time at 46:20 Justin puts counters on all this creatures after attacking with Drana, but Drana reads "put a +1/+1 counter on each attacking creature". Happens a few times throughout the game.
Triskaidekaphobia- most glorious Commander VS kill ever.
Your doing the Vampire Lord's work. Hilarious!
I built a gitrog deck and it was so much fun watching this for ideas and a chance to see how it plays.
59:08, Justin parnell mistakes Drana's ability, putting counters on each creature, including those which did not attack
+Zackary Thomas Slykhouse 1:28:00 - Geist Honored monk does not actually have flying...
+Zackary Thomas Slykhouse 1:43:00 when we learn that a deck with 40 fogs and a maze of ith would destroy the leaderboards.
+Zackary Thomas Slykhouse he also misplayed her ability at 46:20
Such an awesome game. Saw each theme come out strong. I think Steven should get the bonus point, that was getting out of hand with Gitrog.
Geist-honored monk doesn't have flying so it cannot block a flying soldier. But it does have vigilance, so it doesn't tap for combat.
You know what would be cool? If you guys played 4 squirrel decks.
Wes Wise shall rise again #TeamWes
Stephen Green: Kingmaker extraordinaire
I think they missed the fact @23:00 that Infectious Curse can enchant any legal player, including jon with hexproof, since enchanting players only has the targeting restriction when it's a spell on the stack.
You do not believe how happy I still am that Wes won season 2 #TeamWes YALL SAID IT COULDNT HAPPEN
I love how JP is slipping counters onto his non-attacking vampires even though Drana says to put the counters on "Attacking creatures". cheatyface level over 9000
Greetings from Germany. I enjoy your commander vs videos.
Playmates like yours were awesome.
I hope there is a tiny chance to get it.
Did I miss an episode or is the E2 a typo lol
I love you guys so much. Themes are cool. Budgets are cool. Zombies are cool.Nephilim are cool. You guys are cool
As mentioned, Drana puts only counters on attacking creatures. Additionally, the champion doesn't work that way. It says that creatures of your opponents that have less power than him can't block your creatures. Not that your less strong creatures are unblockable. Rules: Your general can be 5 dollars or less, while every other card has to be 3 dollars or less. Also love the series and can't wait to see more!
I would totally love to use that blue Commander VS playmat. Sleeves with that logo would be quite nifty as well.
There are a lot of title typos in this episode.
how many upkeep triggers of Gitrog were missed?
woop, best star city thing! Bring on the Gitrog
Like if you want
- Planechase
- Horde
- Archenemy
in season 3.
I can't like (mobile), but I second this!
If you want planechase, watch the April Fools Day videos.
+Orkan69 yeah I did watch it, and because it was so good, Id like to enjiy mire of it
What happens at 1:05:00 that the board gets wiped? did I miss something?
+ThePinRider He cast Damnation. It's his fancy Magic Player Rewards version, so it doesn't look like the regular Damnation.
That was exactly the way I wanted that game to go.
+Elizabeth Bauer tap for colorless with the slagheap, use that mana to get the black
+Claudio Barrera Ohhh that makes so much sense thanks!
Did Wes make a LRR Pre-prerelease reference with the Right Side joke?
I love the new playmats! Could you get themed sleeves too?
1:19:50 "Next week we learn colors." I lost it.
Drana only gives attacking creatures +1/+1 counters. I think Parnell made a minor mistake at 46:00 good for him though^^
I was looking at Justin's build for Olivia and noticed he was running Elusive Tormentor. I thought it wasn't legal in a black/ red deck due to flipping into a blue creature. Is this correct?
Good question. There's no blue spent to cast it tho. What is the deal with a color change flip in commander?
+Stephen Gasior Cards that flip into a different colored card are considered both colors for commander. So Elusive Tormentor shouldn't be in the deck officially. However, I'd personally let someone play it in a vampire themed deck anyway.
When wes is in a different seat and it completely throws you!
I was a little sad when I looked at the decklists and noticed Stephen wasn't playing Herald of Leshrac in his list. Pretty sure you can stack the triggers so that you can take an opponents land then sac it to Gitrog. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will tell me :)
I think its just a typo, since they talk about it being a new season
season 3 off with a great start awesome game probably one of the best games ever can't wait for next week!!!!
the last 5 mins of that game were just hilarious. True edh right there! #cheststache #StandingWes
My favourite weekly series is back again :D Can't wait for next week #TeamWes
Epic :D Can you build big guys deck with Jalira and/or Jhoira? Marath tokens or mill deck will be sweet too :)
Those are pretty neat playmats.
