@shenzino The pad is hard enough for the one holding the pad to feel if the punch/kick got power. The pad is also good for the puncher/kicker= >You can feel the pad-holders bodyreaction if you technique is good enough (you can also feel if your technique is weak).
Also if you punch a punchingbag without gloves a longer time, it will very often rip off your skin from your knuckles.
