I have no idea why I like Canadian bild a car shows but I also enjoy Halfass Customs. Probably the lack of commercials. Very different approaches. Halfass is sort of just that - lots of emphasis on design and problem solving, not much on quality metal finishing. Your channel - lots of emphasis on high quality metal and body work. He has dogs, you have cats. Good thing is that you both build to suit yourself. Keep doing what you do so well.

Such a thorough chop process. Actually removing inner & outer structures to do it right. Though more time-consuming, in the long run, less screwing around with misalignment of panels. Unlike all the "hot rod TV", shows wacking & stacking welds to fit it in the time allotted. All brought to you by dupont, ppg, vicks dayquil, & nyquil products & any number of pharmaceutical sponsors

The amount of forethought and work you're putting into getting the lines on this cab just right is the reason this channel is Carter Auto Restyling and not Carter Auto Mindless Hackery. So many builds sound good on paper but end up a disjointed pile of parts in reality. Getting everything to flow together and look right as a whole is the real artform!

Really digging this build. I dig both channels even though they are from different perspectives. I think that Brent must sub-consciously have an innate need to build as many cars as is possible by a human (x 2). He must need to get the build ideas out of his head before they get lost, where as your channel employs more finesse and you've thought things through more and demand more accuracy. I am impressed with your understanding of metal shaping and how you use your smoke and mirrors to bring back panels that look like crinkled alfoil.

The really tough part is once he does the final welding and the metal does it's thing. That planishing, shrinking, and shaping process is so slow and tedious and requires SO MUCH understanding of what the metal wants/needs.

This would have been even harder as this car was a unibody vehicle. I thought so much about it and tried to solve most problems in my head. But as I see here, there are many more problems that you run into while being in action. And being a much lousier body and welding guy than you, I would have destroyed the car.

I think the key take aways so far are doing the doors first, making the roof template before cutting it and then doing the inner roof structure over the doors. You have a good balance of getting it done and planning. I like the idea of keeping the original proportions and also welding the inner structure on the A pillars.

      @CarterAutoRestyling  8 місяців тому +2

I'll just be re installing the original inner structure. Once the roof is welded and hammered back into shape it will have the same strength as original. There will be no need for extra bracing or supports.

Remembering the fad of "custom this and that shows".... can't compare with a talented guy working in his garage, keeping it real.
    Well done, lad, well done.

The roof profile looks really good!!!
I KNOW it's your truck/project and I'm going to simply throw my opinion on here about the rear window...
I wouldn't slant the sides personally. I like the vertical lines because (in my eyes) it enhances the B pillar 'bulk'.
I like Clecos and bought some this past summer. Wish I would have years ago.
Keep up the fantastic work and I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Thanks again for another great video Kyle!
Like everything in life, we keep learning and growing until we leave this world right?
I'm chopping and channeling (6") a 33 chevy 4 window (Tudor). These are easier than most other cars thankfully. It's my first chop job. Taking only 2" off was easy but knowing me, I had to make it difficult because I decided to angle the rear window section forward a lot...throwing a bunch of monkey wrenches in the deal but it's going to really make a cool difference in the look. Working with 90-year-old rusty metal has been a huge learning curve geese. I'm having to weld (touch-up) both sides of the metal because the metal has deep rust in a lot of places throughout the body and many places are very thin and have to do patches. I'm also thinking of angling the front windshield back 2-3" and am beginning to try and figure out the easiest/right way to do it so it looks natural but might have to just keep it a "wish I had done that" haha. Yes I watch Brent's Halfasskustoms and have for many years. Found your channel and have watched and look forward to all your new videos. You have a great talent/skill...your skill and patience is a huge win for you. Without patience skill becomes void. peace to you and your cats!

Hey Kyle, I know you’ve already thought everything through but sure hope you’re contemplating a custom dash. If it’s worth doing it’s worth doing all the way! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on a full, custom! Thanks you sir for your efforts. Enjoying at least twice!😂

Don'n overthink and plan to much, like Mike Tyson famously said, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face”. Just cut and see what happens!
    Great work you are doing!

If you went any faster, and didn’t explain what your thought process was, I’d be as lost as a ball in high weeds. And to quote another Bluegrass son “Don’t you worry bout the mule, you just load the wagon.” That makes sense…doesn’t it…maybe.

Kyle, whether you know it or think otherwise, I declare you a perfectionist and you are very good at it. Spent several years at a Ford dealership as a parts manager. I watched the struggles/arguments between a shop foreman who rebuilt wrecks on the side and a perfectionist of a body man. They did not work well together but both were very good at their jobs. Great video Kyle. I had a 52 2dr, hardtop Deluxe I hopped up I always thought that front end melded to some sort of el camino box would be a stunner. Consider it your next custom build. Take care good sir.
