The larger flames are because the 3 candle lantern is putting off higher amounts of BTU's so it creates a stronger thermodynamic vacuum. In other words, since it is hotter it is drawing more air up from the bottom and creating a vacuum while the other candles don't have enough power to do this effectively enough to make much of a difference.
I'm looking for a cheap heat source for evenings in my van before sleep and the candle prices are just not sustainable but the tea light seems cheaper but would need a few.

Just came across this video. Loved it about these candle lanterns. Like you said you can even fire it up when relaxing in your living room. Nice ambiance. And will be good for camping which is the reason I’ve just ordered the medium size one from Amazon and a pack of candles. Thanks mate for a good review. Andy from England. 👍
FYI, the 'brings me joy' comes from that Netflix series that was so popular a while back, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo ...just in case yall don't get the reference. She says to only keep things in your life that bring you joy :)
Adventures of a Fat Hillbilly Interesting point. I will have to look into that. There has only been a handful of nights where it has dropped into the 30s but that is an excellent option to look into.
SUGGESTION - For additional reflective light and heat, I fashioned a simple circular "heat shield" from an aluminum can that I can attach to the handle of the lantern. It is surprising how much additional heat it puts off, as well as reflective light. great review btw
Trying to find something in case of power outage for heat, keep seeing videos about flower pot heaters, going to give one of these a go. Like to have some peace of mind, no gas here ( no huddling in the kitchen around an open stove in case of power out) thinking about using the modification in this comment with the tin can and also considering getting small flower pot to put on top to radiate heat more so. Great vid Thank you for making & also for the comments (cathy)
I love these. I wish I could find the tiny one. I think they discontinued them. If you don’t enjoy candle or lantern light you are really missing out. It’s very relaxing. When the power is out and it’s pitch black they seem much brighter, trust me.
Great review brother! I’m thinking about getting one of there for some easy to carry solo camping trips I like to take. I read the medium one will do 1,500 btu’s and the big one will do 5000 btu’s of heat for camping when it’s colder for hunting season. Thanks for the review! Liked and Subscribed Brother!!🔥🔥🏕🏕
Thanks for your review and time. Just a correction, the original was made by Big Oak, then Northren Lights (Japan) which is the one I have, and yes that too was 20 years ago when I bought it. They will keep a small one man tent warm too as stated, but a tea candle can do that too BTW.. The original Northren Lights has a folding top cover (with vent holes) so there´s no need to slide the cylinder to light the candle. Only issue is when it´s a bit windy wax will stick to the glass cylinder thus dimming the amount of light put out.
I bought one of the middle size ones. Gonna put it in my tractor trailer for a Lil heat in cooler weather instead of idling. Not a one all fix all, but pushes the line before I start that engine
nice vid. Today i bought a hurricane candle holder that works the same way with the spring and it uses skinny (5/8 inch diametr) emergency candles. I found your vid to explain how it works. thanks! MIne has the curvy hurricane lampshade :D I could not find it on line.
Good review… I actually didn’t know they had a T light one out. I don’t like having to buy the expensive candles so the tea like one might suit me better… Thanks
Ideally I’d like the tea light version as cheap candles but I’d worry about using this hung in the tent. Once the wax turns liquid surely any movement as you’ve got hot wax all over the place
Yeah, I used to go camping when I was kid. Mostly to get out from under my parents thumb. Ha! Anywho, there were those kids who had money, and they had the Colem pump lanterns that burned white gas. Then your friends with money had those expensive sleeping bags. The was whole slew of things to go camping with if you had money. I was a kid, and luck if I had a quarter in my pocket. My grand father liked to camp when he was a kid, but he lived off the land. I brought canned beans. My grand father said, "You need a warm blanket, and matches, and knife. Yeah, little basic for me, but he was right. We brought Voltive canldles, and and stuck'em in glass. Mostly worked. I had my parents buy me a hamock, and with my own blanket I was set to go. Hard to discribe how much fun it is, to be twelve feet up in tree, with radio. and candle in glass hanging with a bent coat hanger. Yeah, yeak so what? A few year ago, I was in the Dollar store, and the had these little ornamental laterns that burn voltive candles. Damn things worked great. I bought five, and used them for everthing. Not bad for a buck. Then I got in mood, and threw them out. Been looking for them over since.
My other half always puts candle votives on the mantle at Christmas time.. I'm going to purchase three of these UCO tea lite lanterns ..3red &3green for Christmas time on the mantle much safer than open candle votives
Baristol what do you use it for, I have purchased it, in the UK its not a go to, I purchased it for leather, but apparently it's good for 1001 purposes, What's your uses?
Howdy. I use Ballistol mainly for gun cleaning and lubrication. However I also do use it for leather treatment and anytime I need something lubricated around the house. It’s great stuff!! I seem to recall Germany developed it for their army’s in the 1930s or something.
do you ever have the glass fall down on the single version? Didn't they used to have the folding micro one? I have had the big candlier for 10 years now Love it. I cant find the micro on Amazon.
I've never had the glass slide down on the single version. I've heard about the folding micro one but haven't seen it, I think someone else commented that they go for big bucks on ebay.
Have you seen the collapsible version of the tealight? The micro. Seems to be a rare find anymore but I have one for emergencies with the neoprene cover. Even holds a spare tealight in the base. I think I will try to find a supplier while people still have them for sale.
The inlets in the bottom allow oxygen to be drawn into the lamp body. This oxygen heats as it is drawn up to the flame, since the heated air from the wick is rising upwards making it difficult for clean oxygen to be drawn down. This oxygen, already heated by the lamp body, travels up and combines with the flame of the wick to produce an even bigger flame. (Edited because I inadvertently duplicated a word [bigger] )
Here in the UK gas & electric has gone up so much many are fearing death from cold. My usual bill was £120 a month. It's now £428 a month and is increasing again in October by 50% and again in March. I'm disabled and plan to put a tent on my bed and live in it to keep warmer. Just need to find a tent with 2 openings, so my husband can get out a side and me out a side, and fit on a King size bed. ( do you know of any?) I already have 100s and 100s of 8 hour tealights ready for the planned blackouts government has told us we are having this winter, not to mention the frequent blackouts with Scottish 🏴🏴 weather, so the tealight lantern will be my choice. Is it safe to use ANY small lantern that takes tealights in a tent or should it be this lantern I need to get? I'm not worried about light as I have plenty batteries for light source, it's the heat I need. Could I have 2 tealight lanterns in a tent, or 3? Is there a danger with fumes from having them burning constantly do you know? Should I need a carbon monoxide alarm? An idea I had while watching your video was to put a layer of tin foil above where the lantern is hung (the poles should keep it in place?) to reflect heat and if put wide enough you could hang wet socks to dry overnight?
that is crazy with the electric costs!! Hopefully things will get better soon. I believe I'd reach out to someone with more knowledge than me on advice for these in a tent indoors though. Maybe try contacting your local fire department or something along those lines, they would probably have a much better idea. I've used these outdoors before in tents, but thats a different story as the tents are well vented and have air moving through them. Thanks for watching and I hope those electric bills get under control!
I'd go based on your lighting requirements and burn time requirements vs heat. 30 to 40 isn't too bad at all when you have a nice sleeping bag. No exterior heat sources should be needed with a proper bag. Thanks for watching!!
I haven't seen them in a while, UCO may be suffering supply chain issues like a lot of others. I'll keep an eye out for them and post if I find them anywhere. Thanks for watching!
good for stealth cooking inside your tent. quinoa, pasta, canned beans w/spices/tomato sauce and easiy heated foods...fried bread, pancakes even. use a ceramic tile underneath or a silicone baking sheet. some heat some light too. costs $7 a night to burn all night with three candles, parafin should be put outside when you blow out the candles, do not inhale.

Not a huge issue, lots of it will evaporate and the remainder will run down inside. You can either freeze it and it'll flak off easily or heat it up a little and it'll wipe right off. Or just use good old fashioned elbow grease. Thanks for watching!!

@HillbillyMusings I've had two of them break. You have to clean them every time. They break when you slide them down over the candle 9ver the little holders that keep the candle in place. Wax builds up inside the flue. So you have to clean them so they slide down.

not to mention the extra heat makes the melted wax have a lower viscosity so (perhaps) therefore wax wicks more easily.
I'm looking for a cheap heat source for evenings in my van before sleep and the candle prices are just not sustainable but the tea light seems cheaper but would need a few.
Is the 1 candle enough to kill the humidity in the tent?
