No they were not. They were without electronic and people told me that they were horrible to work on. New one can be reliable, I have a 2007 Daihatsu Copen with a hardtop convertible and never had any problems with it, and most people don't have problems with it either. And people knows how to fix them easy
FORD did not do it first. There was a French automaker in the late 20s or early 30s who came up with the retractable hardtop convertible. (it may be here on UA-cam or Google it) Oh, the first American car with this feature; the 1947 Playboy.
60 years ago I had seen one. Down the street were we lived. It was so cool. I told others about it and everyone thought I was nuts. I am surprised that Chevy didn’t follow suit but they never did to my knowledge.
This is a Ford Fairlane Skyliner that was customized into a Meteor version. My dad liked the Canadian grill so he made a one of a kind Meteor Hardtop Skyliner.
There's a guy in the Netherlands who hand built a 1958 Edsel Citation Skyliner that had a working retractable hardtop. Of course it was a fake ((built on a 58 Fairlane) but beautifully done, it looked factory!
There are a number of 'Edsel' retractables made. Some are really done 'right', but I've seen others which left the Ford 1/4s in place, so it was an 'Edsel' w/fins.
Beautiful 57 Ford the only thing I don't like which is my own opinion Continental kit. It makes the car look extended and harder to backup and park without worrying about your Continental kit getting damaged put the tire in the trunk in my opinion great deal love the car. MR WELSH
I hate connie kits, but on a Skyliner, the spare is under a trap door under the luggage holder, plus it must be lifted shoulder high to get over the rear fenders, I had a dozen 57-58-59 Skyliners, always had the spare in the trunk, understood when they weren't.
Only real drawback was lack of luggage space. These were made to take on the road, a touring trip, You needed someplace for your luggage--the back seat doesn't cut it.
Such impressive beauty and engineering. Hmm those side rear view mirrors are sweet. I'm guessing they're aftermarket? They look like spot lights AND rear view mirrors in the other side..? Are they both in one? If so that's so bad ass. 2 in 1
Yes they are side mirrors & spotlights are they aftermarket. You can adjust them from inside the car with a handle that tilts and rotates them. Pretty cool.
Got metor chrome & grill they rare cars metor ford hard to find in salv a ge yards & on the road !!!?? You have to check out the 57, 58 59ford car club !!!?? Hemmings book too
I'm not sure what he is using that pump for that is in the center of the trunk. That isn't factory but this system on these cars work very well once you reseal the hydraulics for the top pumps/
That is an air compressor. So he added an air horn to this car. Even though the factory horn is louder than most modern cars today. So the air horn is pretty loud.
I’ll see if I can eventually make a video like that. Only one button to activate the roof. Push to close and pull to raise or visa versus. And it has 7 electric motors doing to work.
Well. It is actually a Fairlane that has been converted to a Meteor. The meteor did not have a hard top convertible. My dad liked the Canadian grill better.
Well almost. The Canadian Ford did not have a hard top convertible. But my dad liked the Canadian Grill better. So he converted his Fairlane Skyliner to a Meteor Skyliner Rideau 500 which did not exist. So this is now a one of a kind I guess.
@@drmacmike I stand corrected, and your Dad was a detail guy, for sure. He not only changed out the grille, but the paint scheme and all the Meteor model emblems. It looks great!
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any more...
It is now. But it originally wasn’t. Ford did not make a Meteor Hardtop convertible. Only a soft top convertible. And a hard top non convertible. Thus is a custom converted car. One of a kind. The car that didn’t exist.
It originally was a Ford. But my dad converted it to a Redoux. The Redoux did not have a hard too convertible. My dad always liked the Redoux front grill better.
@@PatrickFoley-vf3lr I applaud you noticing that is is a Redoux. That means my dad payed attention to all of the details of making it a Redoux 500. Emblem on the side. 60 years on and still causing a sensation ! Great to hear the wonderment of the young people. Kind Regards

1957....and it has a better convertible system than most modern cars today!!!
No it doesn't, when new they were a night mare. 3 years of nothing but greif.

Ok , sand corrected
No tuner technology there boys. That's factory American ingenuity.

It didn’t exist. My dad made his own. He liked the Meteor front grill way better then the Ford grill. So he made his own.

soon nobody will remember the days these cars was real on the road
We still drive this one around from time to time.
Ahead of its time my friend
Yes definitely ahead of its time. It operated on 7 (I think) electric motors to raise the trunk and move the top down into the trunk.

Peugeot did them beautifully in the 30s 2 models in 1934 and the best in 1938. This is not new, this idea was started in the early 20s.
A 57 Ford Fairlane 500 w/ convertible hard top, a Continental Kit, wide white wall tires - where’s the blinking curb feelers?
Converted to a Meteor Skyliner which did not exist.
класс! Круто!
harika
That Y-Block needs a solid lifter valve adjust--9 & 19.
Tell me more. This is my dads baby. I will have to let him know so he can have it looked at. What is the Y-Block 9 & 19?
Could someone make a video with the switches and the internal mechanic

I'm trying to convert a hardtop convertible 08 Sebring to bypass all the computers

That rear end longer than the Eiffel tower
Yes it is pretty long. It holds almost the entire top. The top folds back a little so that it will fit.
