The 55 to 57 ford style is the most perfect to my mind of any passenger car. And coupled to a Ford 427 it was so fast. Thanks for teaching us about this supercharger model.
The first car I ever really loved was a 57 Ford. I was 6 when they were new, and the styling and stance just looked perfect to my eye. Still does. 57 T-bird, same thing. Even plain jane and satin paint, it looks great. Never knew the history of the supercharger. That makes it even greater and more iconic to me. Thanks.
Whats funny is if someone says something about a 55-57 Chevy. Most people have an idea what they look like 55-57 Fords get a blank, stare most people don't have a clue. During that time Ford actually out sold Chevy. PS The car I thought was the best looking was the 56 Ford Fairlane.
@@johnkendall6962 yeah John I liked them too, especially the Crown Vics with the glass tops. But the 56 was kind of chunky looking. The 57 was long, sleek and low. It was simple styling. It just looks right from any angle. 57 was a great year for all car makers. There are so many, I like them all. Built models of lots of them as a kid. 57 Sunliner! Come on! That was the coolest! 56 looks like it ate too many potatoes.🤮😁
- I once owned a 1957 Ford Ranchero 300, deluxe with 292 stick shift and overdrive. I added the overdrive because of the steep 3.89 rear axle ratio. The 0.7 to one overdrive added about 6 MPG on the highway. But to be honest with you, I think the '56 styling was better.

Dad had a 1963 Studebaker Avanti with the Paxton Super Charger and the Studebaker 289 he said it liked the taste of Corvettes. A car way way ahead of it's time.
When they dropped the rule of making 500 cars as race ready in Production models, the Stock Car racing was over. It became Cubic Dollars over Cubic Inches,
Thats when I stopped watching nascar, when they mandated restrictor plates for all cars but let chevy change the body style/ back window on the race cars to keep up. It killed them cause bill elliot was embarrassing the rest of the field at daytona. I haven't watched their bull$hit for over 30 years, yet I never used to miss a race when I was young.
We had a local legend drag racer always running Fords. He got tired of being torn down after winning and he finally said why just my fords-- The answer- Fords don’t run that fast. He never was found illegally equipped. Ever!
I've been into high performance my whole life (50 years old) Granted, I'm not big into Ford. But this is the 1st time I've ever seen or even knew about factory supercharged cars from them. Fascinating stuff and that's a beautiful car. Thanks for sharing!!!
57’ Thunderbird called “battle bird“ modified for Ford by Peter De Paolo Engineering in Long Beach, California, to compete in the 1957 Daytona Speed Weeks events. The cars were heavily modified, with aluminum skins for hoods, doors, trunk lids and custom tonneau covers. Engines were moved lower and further back in the chassis, suspensions were strengthened and four-speed Jaguar transmissions were used. With a supercharged Ford 312 cubic-inch V-8, this car was clocked at over 200 mph, but mechanical problems prevented a second run, eliminating the mandatory averaging of two runs to determine an official speed. With a quick change of engine, the car then competed in an airport road race in New Smyrna, just north of Daytona. Driven by Marvin Panch, the car beat the Corvettes in the race, which was its mandate, but finished second to Carrol Shelby in a 4.9 Ferrari. A racing ban by the Automobile Manufacturers Association of its members was soon instituted, ending the car's racing career after one race. Today let’s hope the Cobra Jets don’t get banned in NHRA factory stock since they’re easily out running the competition.
According to Smokey Yunick one of De Paolo's cars won a NASCAR race after the ban and then forfeited because he wouldn't let tech inspectors look under the hood. OOps! Supercharger!
Excuse me but FACTORY Stock classes in NHRA mustangs running 170mph, something is fishy with the Idea of Cobra Jets being banned. Maybe different classes, but why is Chrysler's banned from racing in the NHRA factory stock classes?
My black primered 57' Custom looked exactly like this one. However...it was powered by a 69' 428 SCJ w/4spd and 9" running gear out of a totaled 69' Mustang back in the late 70's. Fun car. This ones a beauty and SUPER rare!
I had a 57 Custom 300 2dr. While I owned it from 67-72 it was powered by a 272, a 406/405 and finally a 1970 429 SCJ 375 hp. 57 chevies were my favorite victims. Got married and ended up selling the car. If I had known how things were going to turn out I would have kept the car and shitcanned her ass.
@@195048 Here in the NC area we had several Holman Moody FE's floating around. One was a 406 tri power that had a H/M 3/4 race cam. The other was a 427 single 4bbl that had a H/M cam as well. The 406 started out in a 40 Ford and then to a 56 F100 with a 4 speed mounted to it. Would raise the front wheels off the ground in either. The 427 was in a 57 Ford with a 3 on the tree. Sad thing was, neither could keep low gear in the transmission. But they would still pin the nose in the air in second... There was a H/M prepared 352 that a guy had built and put it in a 56 Ford. The picture I saw was of about a quarter of a mile of pasture fence totally downed as well as a phone pole that was about mid ways in the same line of pasture fence... Knocked down several hundred feet of fence then the pole then more fence.
I have a 61 F100 Integral Cab (some mistakenly call them "unibody") with a 428CJ out of a 70 Cougar Eliminator and a C6 trans to the original 9" rear. I built it that way in 1977.
Never should have sold my 57. My dad had one and was the only Ford of the many he had that brought tears to his eyes when he spoke about it. He would refer to it as the "Blue Ford" be blue and white two tone. A 57 looks like its doing 120mph standing still. It's not a car, cars don't have a a heart beat. And that's what a 57 had.....
The funny thing is even in Australia, when the Ford's do well in what ever category, they will be penalized or restricted in some form or another. This has happened for decades.
I’m a ford guy but I’ve listened to my mopar friends talk about nascars treatment of them over the decades. When they went to a 355 ci limit it was too obvious. Dodge had a 360 and a 340 at the time.
Hahahahahah I guess that's what happens when your engineer doesn't know how to read and gets over the rules. GM and Chrysler's tho? Barely got banned, like the Hemi did for a certain period. But you know, if you aren't wrong you aren't going to be penalized. Although you guys love to cry about the Cammer being banned from Nascar. The funniest of the facts is: THERE ARE NO OVERHEAD CAMMED ENGINE TILL THIS DAY AND YOU STILL COMPLAIN ABOUT SABOTAGE LMAO
I have been a NASCAR fan since the 50's because it is one of the racing venues where Ford has been able to compete and win on a regular basis that is until the General or To-Jo says they are too fast and something has to be done to slow them down. The Ford Cleveland of Elliott and Robert Yates was chocked down with restrictors until the General came out with their own staggered valve head with the SB2. NASCAR will never allow Fords to dominate again as long as Rick Hendrick has something to say about it. When Jeff Gordon was hired by Rick Hendrick he asked if they would be building Ford cars and Hendrick told him he does not own any Ford dealerships. Jeff was driving a Ford in the Bush series when he got Hendricks's attention.
NASCAR has become a venue for pussies. You know what I can't even say that cuz pussies are cool More like it's become a venue for lame sheltered people that don't want fun in their lives.
Nascar is a JOKE with all the speed restrictions on the cars, is it a Race or Ring around the Rosie, the fastest car and best driver should win not who can last the longest in the race.
The thing that occurred to me when you started talking about "1957 technology" was that such things as racing help push technology forward. I wonder where we would be in terms of performance, both in power, longevity and efficiency if NASCAR didn't hate Ford.
Love the car. My first car in 1963 in HS was a 1955 2dr customeline Ford with a 57 312ci Tbird motor with 3speed on the floor, and had gas cap cut-out dumps. Was a blast to drive in HS. Also another good Ford memory. My dad bought a 57Ford new with the 312ci motor with 2 4-barrel carbs. My current hope is live long enough to see my dream build. I plan to buy the new gas 7.3 liter Godzilla motor, and put it in s earlier ford, maybe a Ranchero or 72 Torino. Also in consideration is the big fin 57 Lincoln. And one last thought, I once owned a 62 corvette that had a 70 LT1 350 motor in it. I would consider building a 7.3 ford powered 62 Corvette. Absolute karma for all the hotrodders that have put small block Chevys in older Fords. Again loved that great 57 Ford
So glad I found you. Great history here. I remember when Bill Elliott set the lap record and Nascar's response. Really sucked but that's what they always did to innovations from Ford so it was not surprising. I am 100% a Ford man so more of this please. Own several. Homologated..... Ha-Mal-La-Gate-Ed 😊
Are you sure the whole restrictor plate mess wasn't because that weekend Bobby Allison almost met some fans in the stands up close and personal, while still strapped into his race car?
I was a huge Bill Elliott fan, but, I have to admit, too, I believe it had more to do with Bobby Allison about going out into the stands in his car. Of course by the same token I also believe that nascar has been biased towards GM products for a long time too.
@@ONTHEEDGEFRED Well, given that Chrysler and Ford would ever only field two makes (early modern era, not talking about the 50's and early 60's here) and AMC was solo, GM... with BOP and Chevrolet, they could definitely hold a little more sway.
@@mfree80286 While I did say GM I meant to say more or less Chevrolet. Though they may have been caught off guard, I'm surprised General Motors allowed Buick and Oldsmobile to design the cars that they did in the late seventies and early eighties with the so more aerodynamic bodies than the Chevrolets at the time. Chevrolet has always had to pull with nascar.
Was messing with this stuff back in the day. Rare and hard to get, even back then. Nice to see a well sorted survivor 😊 My cousin said it was too much money, so he stuffed a 383/TqFlyte out of a wrecked police car into his 57 2-door. In 1957 I traveled cross-country, from San Diego to Fort Smith, Arkansas, in one of these supercharged Fords with a guy who's father was a Ford dealer and gave it to him as 21st birthday present. His twin sister got non-supercharged, but otherwise identical, car. He was getting out of the Navy in San Diego and I shagged a ride with him to visit my grandparents in Arkansas, along with a couple of other guys. We made the trip in about 20 hours, stopping only for gas and food in those non-freeway days. At one point, he opened it up all the day and we did 50 miles in about 20 minutes, later raced a guy in 57 Chevy from Muskogee, OK, to Fort Smith. Crazy stuff.
My Dad, Uncles, & Grandfather were always FoMoCo men. This video explains one of the many reasons why they were. Ford was often way ahead of the game in racing innovations, & this is the way they were treated. Historical facts show us who was on top of the heap, First On Race Day. Then sell those Fords on Monday! Go Away NASCAR, & take your decades of petty rules with you!
Love the 57 Fords. We had a 57 with the 289? and a 57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser with the 312. That Merc would eat up tires like nothing. It was my Mom's favorite car. My brother inherited the Ford as a teenager and wrecked it in the early 60s drag racing a 327 Chevy. I'd love to have either one today, especially the Merc.
Pat is one of the best sources of information on these cars There is a fairly large group of folks restoring or building these cars. I'm one of them. I raced my F code for about 20 years in the Pure Stock Drag Races in Michigan. Never saw one of the infamous 57 Chevy " Fuilies " that would supposedly scare me away. I did hear a lot of talk from stunned Chevy afindios
My father was service manager at an Eastern Pa. Ford Dealer. For 55, 56, and 57 he bought a new 2 door station wagon ever year. The 57 had a 312 Thunderbird Special. My dad always said " it will pass anything, but a gas pump". The rear end ratio was not for highway driving. I remember helping my dad taking a differential out of a passenger car in the dealership's junk yard. He said it did not help. He blocked the second two barrels from coming open. I remember helping him overhaul the engine at 42,000 miles because the wrist pin clip came out and scored the cylinder. He had the cylinder sleeved. Overhaul finished we headed for Neb.
They made two 57 Rancheros with the supercharger, one black one maroon. They are both in the brothers car collection in Salem Oregon. Thanks for the upload was very interesting, I loved how the black 57 would blow the tires off, even going at least 20 mph and then blowing them off in second gear also. Made my day.
My older brother had a ‘57 Fairlane 500 w/292. He went to a salvage yard, found a ‘62 Galaxie NCSHP car, wrecked with 6000 miles on it. It just happened to have the 406 high performance engine. Dual point dist, big 4 bbl and factory cast iron headers. He put itt in that ‘57 with the hd T85 3 spd overdrive trans. We never found out how fast it would run because it wouldn’t stay in the ground!😂😂. It was a scary ride.
Awesome car and video! Don't forget the weight penalty that the NHRA imposed on the prostock Fords in the early 70"s because of their Cleveland cylinder heads.
NASCAR banned the 351 Cleveland 4 barrel head engines(1970-19740. They ran 2.19 valves, but NASCAR let Ford run the 2 barrel heads with 2.08 valves. 351 Cleveland closed chambered heads produced more horsepower than any other engine in history. Thus let's ban it from racing. Fords run a 1997 conventional small block in NASCAR today, not a cammer engine or Coyote. The Bodine brothers in 1998 qualified 4th with a cammer engine and NASCAR banned the car. Steve Saleen built his P7 race car around a 351 Clevor, Cleveland heads on a 351 Windsor block, because the oiling passages were better, and Chevy had the car penalized by adding weight. Chevy complained in 2015 and 16 about the new Ford GT's, so FIA restricted the boots and added up to 180 pounds of weight, per race, to slow them down. I have not heard FIA adding weight to the new mid engine C8 Corvettes. Surprising to hear Chevy complain a lot.
@@michaelraddish7898 The Clevland came out with canted valves! Guess who copied their design? Chev did. From that point onwards, chevs big blocks had canted valves. This = a dominant Ford victory.
There were '57 Ford 300 sedans on the Drag Strips with the 312 in dual quyd carbureted and also a single 4 barrel version with the Paxton Super Charger. Two of the Paxton equipped cars ran at the LADS Strip in the LA area. One had a name "Blowin in the Wind." Both were fast 1/4 mile cars.
I'm a Ford guy, but the Y-Block engines were no match for the Chevrolet V8's. The Supercharger was about all they could do. Wouldn't be a match for a supercharged Chevy. Fwiw... I think NASCAR also banned Chevrolet's Fuel-injected cars too. But yeah... NASCAR totally sucks up to Chevrolet. Whenever Ford gets a leg up, the Bowtie boys cry and NASCAR does whatever is necessary to give Chevrolet the edge back. I also remember the NASCAR Taurus scared the Hell out of the Chevy boys. It was only a couple of races into the season, and the Taurus had yet to actually win a race. But Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon cried about the Taurus tracking them down in the turns and they couldn't keep up. Naturally, NASCAR immediately stepped in and fixed the Ford advantage. Just once I'd like to see NASCAR step in and dumb down a Chevy when they are dominating. But alas... NASCAR sucks these days. I don't follow it since they ruined it
NHRA is as bad when it comes to ruling against Ford's. They changed Pro Stock because of Bob Gliddons and the other Cleveland cars total dominance of the class. Since then the class couldn't be more boring. They should call it pro Camaro. You watch, they'll do the same to factory stock to stop the Cobra Jets. NASCAR has frustrated me for years with it's ruling against Ford's when they show any dominance. It's as if they see GM dominance as the natural order of things and rules must change if they are not. One of my favorite Ford's is the 57. My Father had a custom 300 with a 292. I can see the look of joy on his face when he would take me out to a country road and get on it. I remember the sound it made when he'd pull the air cleaner off. That was a long time ago.
I have a black '57 Ford Custom 2dr sedan like the car in this video. I bought it back in November of '69 for $75. It had a 292 V8 engine and 3 speed manual transmission. By springtime 1970, it had a de-stroked Ford 427 engine and Ford top-loader 4 speed manual transmission. I drag raced the car for several years in NHRA in 3 different classes and did well with it. I still have the car and re-furbished it 3 years ago. It's still street legal and driven often during warm weather months. Memorial Day weekend 2021 I raced it again at New England Dragway in Epping NH. Two 10.1's and two 9.87's.

The restrictor plate was brought on because of the `1987 Talladega crash where Boddy Allison car right rear tire blew and sent the car flying towards the front stretch grandstands ripping the catch fence and sending parts of the car into the crowd. Not because they were trying to slow Bill or the other fords down. This is coming from a diehard Ford and Bill Elliott guy.
Do you always believe everything you're told? There are many examples here of Ford innovation that got banned by NASCAR. And for your information cars were still flying off the ground and in the catch fences even with restrictor plates and the small block engines. I can recall Brad Keselowski slamming into the back of Carl Edwards car in the final turn at Talladega as Edwards was leading the race. Edwards flew right into the catch fence.
I just found this post. I'm nearing 80 years old and was a Ford man from the get go . I started building Flatheads when I was 15 , my pops own a wrecking yard and auto repair shop, so I had an up on most because of that. I of course knew about that super charged Ford. I built my first real fast rod with a 312 out of a wrecked 57 station wagon. I took it down, did a .40 over bore, Crane Cam, Headwork done by a buddy of my Dad a machinist who raced dirt track, 4 Barrel Holley, 4:11 rear, and put it into a light 54 2dr. post Ford Mainline. Could not l keep a tranny in it. So went the Ford dealer got an 63 and 1/2 all synchro 3 speed stuck a racing clutch in it and that baby was very quick If there are any Chevy guys from around Tacoma/Puyallup WA in 1961 to 1964 we might have met at a stop light or two.
That's nice! I'll confess, my first car was a 1957 Chevy with the PowerPacked heads option. It was quick but nothing like this one. If I recall, Chevrolet offered an Eaton supercharger option on the 283 and 327 engines on some 1957 models. That would make for an interesting match race.
Ford Y-block engines, often referred to as"boat anchors",can really shine today due to increased interest and after-market support from the likes of Mummert Co.,and others.
What a great video! I never realized that back in 1957 Ford put a super charger on some of there cars. My 99 Cobra had the double overhead cams 32 valve 4.6 liter V8. What a great engine!
I've always liked these cars I have a 57 Ford Ranchero myself. At a young age my neighbor up the street had a 57 sedan gasser that was black straight axle and everything I said someday. 57 FORD WITH A 312 IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE FORDS AND THE SUPERCHARGER MAKES IT ALL THAT MORE EXCITING AND YA NASCAR DOESN T LIKE FORD THATS WHY THEY CHANGE THE RULES ON THEM AND THATS WHY I DON T WATCH THEM ANY MORE EVERY THINGS SO FIXED NOW DAYS
About 2 yrs ago I bought a restomod ‘57 Fairlane 2 drhdtp, red b white beautiful car, D code with auto 3 spd. Engine(312-4bbl)turned out to be bad. I sent it out, had it bored and balanced with all new goodies, put std cam back in it. That 4 bbl is the fastest acting carb I’ve ever seen. It’s pretty strong. Love it.
Back in 1970 we would hot rod a 58 Fairlane with a 312 cube engine 3 speed with overdrive. At about 90 mph it would fly out of gear so you knew you needed to shift up. We were some wild and crazy guys back then. Had a 56 ford that we destroyed the spider gears in doing j hooks. We just welded them up and took her back out. Unfortunately we didn't realize it didn't work well going around corners when both wheels were forced to go the same speed and our welding didn't hold up.
When GM bought a percentage interest in NASCAR, the favoritism toward Chevy in particular never ceased. Even in Earnhardt’s day, if Ford won more than two races in a row, he would be seen after the race stating that NASCAR “was gonna have to do something about the Ford’s.” And they always did. I have not watched NASCAR for years because the only thing thing that separates them from the WWE/WWF is the speed at which they run around the ring.
Bill France never banned the Chevy Mystery engine in Jr. Johnson's car that was never produced as an option but rather was limited to about 25 engines .The 1969 Mustang that Ohio George raced with a Boss 429 and twin Turbo's was banned by the NHRA because it smoked the competition in every race it ever entered

I'd go with my dad in his lunch truck to the Ford plant in Somerville , Massachusetts, early in the morning. I could see the '57 Ford's rolling off the assembly line. Later, working at a gas station, I just missed z seeing and Paxton equipped Ford gassing up. They were very rare in the northeast.....Even today, I prefer the '57 Ford Fairlane, two door hardtop, over the looks of the '57 Chevy Bel Air. Queasyrider
There’s just something about any car that came out of the fifties that makes it instantly recognizable as a 50s car, it’s like all the manufacturers got together and said, ok so they all gotta look kinda alike.
Beside american graffiti, I don't understand how the bel air was a more popular car. I personally like the looks of a 57 ford over a 57 chevy. And the ford is supercharged, that wouldve left me all in on buying ford over Chevy or dodge in that time period
Im about to turn 70 yrs young and when I was in grade school my friends next door neighbor had a Red ‘57 Ford custom tudor post with the infamous F code 312. He used to drag race it locally. Cool Ford stuff - Also Pontiac who swept the NASCAR Races in 1957 @ Daytona and in 1961-62🏆🏁😎 were they dominated NASCAR ended when GM Forced Pontiac out with the infamous 1963 GM Racing Ban 🤬
@@bigglilwayne7050 The early models had their issues. Nodular case was not around then, nor the Daytona pinion bearing retainer. The early housings were also relatively weak being the tubes were butt welded to the center section.
Also in 1957 Thunderbirds and Rancheros were equipped with the supercharger. Chevrolet people are going hate me but I don't give a flying rats ass. but all though out the history of NASCAR. Ford was producing chassis and engines and tons of components that were better than anyone else. Bill Elliot's 212 MPH speed record still holds even today. and even more recently Ford wanted to use over head cam engines. and NASCAR said no because Chevrolet still only had push rod engines. and some time back the Ford teams came up with the FR1 racing engine. which ran much cooler, which meant that they could tape much more of the front of the car for more downforce. but it wasn't too long before NASCAR ended that and gave GM the chance to catch up. I used be a huge NASCAR fan but, after watching NASCAR keep holding the fords back and because of all the rule changes. I became disichanted with NASCAR and I'm no longer a NASCAR fan. I have to say this because it's true, the greatest driver that ever turned a steering wheel in NASCAR was Davie Allison. but we will never know because he was killed outside a track in a helicopter crash. and just to prove that NASCAR was prejudice against Ford. it's a fact that Ford was dominant in other forms of racing. like the program that Carroll Shelby had in Europe. that was authorized by Ford Motor Company. and with his Mustangs and Cobras that were winning races left and right. and the infamous Ford GT 40s that won 1st 2nd 3rd at LaManns in 1966. and Budd Moore and other teams that were racking up wins with Mustangs. in SCCA sanctioned racing series and the list goes on and on. I've always liked 57 Ford they are lower sleeker and handled better than 57 Chevy's. something I'm curious about what kind exhaust system does that 57 coupe have on it? because that's the best sounding Y block I've ever heard.
Is that why Ford motor company did not want much to do with racing and left it to Shelby?.. Do you think Ford's quality had something to do with being anti-union? Such an awesome company
I had a 57 Fairlane 4 door sedan many years ago. Someone had put a newer 352 in it. Unfortunately, it had a 2 speed automatic. Drove that car 150 miles a day back and forth to work for over a year. Sold it to a guy to convert to a police car replica.
I use to love to watch the race, But' Something ten years back things changed so much I no longer pay any attention to Nascar, Right after Dale died, it tanked. any more now as an old man, I see it as chasing the wind. I look to the LORD.
Ford people never remember the hatred towards the other brands mate, all they can remember is the ban of their own engines... fun fact, never seen a single Ford bitch hating on Nascar for banning the 426 Hemi for a period. Just a fucking batch of selfish clowns
My dad bought a 57 custom 300 with this engine a 3 speed manual transmission and overdrive. It was so fast and dad would open it up from Odessa to big springs often. the Y block needs to have both it's main and cam journals "aligned bored" and that motor will rev like a sb Chevy, (okay, almost!). also available (believe in 1957 only?) was a Tbird head that had larger valves. There also was a later 2 stage supercharger (rare). The Y block, had one feature, it was reliable. And with "hosed!" glasspacks nothing sounded better!!
Hosed glasspacks! I was telling some younger folks about doing that the other day, all my buddies and myself had Hosed glasspacks on everything, did't matter if it was a 60 horse power 4 banger it was still fun.

The same thing happens Down Under in V8 touring cars. Strangely, everytime Ford starts to get on top, they (GM-Holden) kneecap them. Ford were killing them with the GT Falcons until CAMS permitted V8 motors in small Toranas to gain a power/weight ratio over the larger bodied Ford Falcons w/351 Clevos instead of running their large bodied Monaros. Ford still managed to compete but didn't dominate. This trend continued all the way up to the introduction of Mustangs (after the Lima Declaration finally caught up and killed the Falcons/Commodores), again Ford being stifled to accommodate GM. Never forget it was Ford that took on Ferrari and kicked their @$$ FOUR years in a row at Le Mans!
Need to keep in mind that this 57 does not represent what the original F code motor was other than outward appearance. Highly modified stroker motor, looks like near 7000 rpm shifting. Not in any way criticizing the machine, amazing build, great video.
NASCAR has changed the rules so much to pad the way for chevrolets I’m not even a fan but I remember my father in law complaining about there bs rules. He was so excited when Awesome Bill From Dawsonville took that track record speed qualifying run. Only to hear that they were going to be adding restrictor plates for the next race . They have it now where who ever gets out front they have teammates that can block the faster cars from getting by . That’s basically why Dale Earnhardt lost his life trying to block faster cars from passing Waltrip and his son . They would never admit it but race fans know what happened that day .
Ford blown engines were banned at the same time as the Chevrolet Fuel injection and all multiple carb manufacturers. A 4 barrel was the limit starting in April of 1957 and stayed that way until a few years ago.
Bill France Sr banned superchargers and turbochargers. Also banned all OHC engines. Later NASCAR banned all hemi engines as well.

57’ Thunderbird called “battle bird“ modified for
Ford by Peter De Paolo Engineering in Long Beach, California, to compete in the 1957 Daytona Speed Weeks events.

Got married and ended up selling the car. If I had known how things were going to turn out I would have kept the car and shitcanned her ass.

The big Daytona news, nascar has a mini van division.

SPOT-ON! They lost me when they put the last generation Thunderbird on the chopping block!

1987 the restrictor plate came about because Bobby Allison almost ended up in the stands at Talladega. No one could run with Bill Elliot's Ford.

@anonymous Full 1480 1/4 mile an frequently saw high 12 second range. There was one with dual quads that would sometimes get near that number too.

I wish I owned it! Awesome!
A '57 Ford 300 sedan had a "Blowin in the Wind" moniker. Ate the competition at our local drag strip.
I've always liked these cars I have a 57 Ford Ranchero myself. At a young age my neighbor up the street had a 57 sedan gasser that was black straight axle and everything I said someday. I had to wait 45 years to get one it was either sedan or The Ranchero I found a really nice Ranchero mine's a 411 posi with a T5 5-speed 390 not quite finished yet but getting there thanks for educating everybody on Ford history.🇺🇲
I have a 1960 Ranchero with a 66 Mustang running gear. 289 4bbl green dot C4 and a mustang II rear end. My grandfather built it out of parts in his car shop and gave it to me for graduation.
I've been a 1957 Ford fan for years and that is a fantastic example of why!!!! 2022
Great video guys and thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching!
That black paint with the dog dish wheels makes the car mean looking and the y block sounds matches the look. Cant beat the sound of a ford v8
And of course, the never-ending favoritism of Bill Srs. GM stock ownership that is self-perpetuating to the siblings.
This explains a lot!! People that don’t like ford, don’t just not like them, they hate it!!!
Fords been kicking ass since day 1 🏁🏁
Bill France never banned the Chevy Mystery engine in Jr. Johnson's car that was never produced as an option but rather was limited to about 25 engines .The 1969 Mustang that Ohio George raced with a Boss 429 and twin Turbo's was banned by the NHRA because it smoked the competition in every race it ever entered
that s a fact NASCAR also did not allow FORD to run the tall WINDSOR deck size in the 80 s when they switched from the CLEVELAND S
They didn't have to, they pretty much gave up after a few disasters.
Original steering wheel, and 4 speed,, beautiful it’s perfect!
Anyone notice how ford lovers are so much more laid back and professional. Also they dont think its funny to destroy stuff. I love fords.
I went to Universal Technical Institute Sacramento. It was plagued with Honda and Chevy boys.. Fast and the Furious 🤓..
I had a 95 Probe GT. "ANAL PROBE" everyone said. Then I brought my 56F100 M400/C6.. DUUUUUUDE!!! everyone said😎
57 fords My favorite Forever! Had several of them into the late 80s two door wagons rancheros 300 coupes 2 door wagons sunliner fairlanes and woodies, sold collection in mid eighties! What a mistake. Still my favorite to date now it's Ford f series bump sides! Super Nice Car you have Sir!!! Makes me sigh and smile at the good old days! Glad I saw your chanel. Nice!
Queasyrider
LOVE your car. Nascar is all about conformity nowadays.Rules, fines and regulations. Kind of like the government. But I digress. Sweet 57!!!
Agreed! Please see my comment. (Planefloat, aka Queasyrider)
Im about to turn 70 yrs young and when I was in grade school my friends next door neighbor had a Red ‘57 Ford custom tudor post with the infamous F code 312. He used to drag race it locally.
This blk one in video has been heavily modified and I think its a great rare classic. Wondering how much boost is running thru it now?
Cool Ford stuff - Also Pontiac who swept the NASCAR Races in 1957 @ Daytona and in 1961-62🏆🏁😎 were they dominated NASCAR ended when GM Forced Pontiac out with the infamous 1963 GM Racing Ban 🤬
1957 was the year the Ford 9" rearend debuted.
Absolutely bulletproof
@@bigglilwayne7050 The early models had their issues. Nodular case was not around then, nor the Daytona pinion bearing retainer. The early housings were also relatively weak being the tubes were butt welded to the center section.
And every make of car started using them, immediately.
Great video!
Thank you for watching
The 427 SOHC was banned before it even turned a lap!
It was never offered in a production car. That's why.
Thanks for the great video and the car owner sure knows his stuff.
Don't forget how NHRA put the fucks to Bob Gliddens program because he was spanking GM's ass, Changed the rules for that winey fuck Warren Johnson!!!
@@amazin1827 look what unions have done to this country................ They're nothing more than organized crime.
Be sure to look up the 1957 Parham, Payne and McDaniels 'Osage Yellow Hoss' supercharged 312 ... which existed in both sedan and wagon iterations.
Pretty Kool for 1957!!!!
NASCAR is just opposed to progress unless it's on their terms. They also hated the "winged" MOPARS of 1967-70 too, remember?
Ford people never remember the hatred towards the other brands mate, all they can remember is the ban of their own engines... fun fact, never seen a single Ford bitch hating on Nascar for banning the 426 Hemi for a period. Just a fucking batch of selfish clowns
My dad bought a 57 custom 300 with this engine a 3 speed manual transmission and overdrive. It was so fast and dad would open it up from Odessa to big springs often. I my selfs first car was a 58 ford with a 312 cu inch and I loved that car very little difference from the 57 of dad. Both were fantastic cars
Ford. 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🇲🇽
Great video- thanks for posting.
Sounds like a 4 speed. Only 3 on the tree in 57 or Fordomatic. Really neat car!
The early Ford Toploader is a straight bolt-on to a Y-block bell-housing, using the inner holes on the trans.
In one of the earlier replies, the OP says he's running a Tremec TKO.
Dang that was MACHINE
Love how grabs the gears ⚙️
Simply Outstanding…The Fleischman Brother strike again…..
Thanks for watching !
Love this car, would like to see more video of it!
Did you ever notice the speedometer registers 130. It starts at 10 , but count from 0 and see what you get.
Same with the '58s..my Dads 58 Interceptor 300 would bury the needle!!
Had a 58 back in 1967 that would do the same.
Beautiful! If you're a Y-block enthusiast, the name George Drager should ring a bell. Now, long deceased, he was a heavy Ford Y-bock drag racer and engine guru in the 50's 60's and 70's. I know because I was his next door neighbor in the 50's! As a small boy, I still remember that Coral over gray, '56 Crown Victoria parked on Dyson Street, Rochester, New York. I loved that car, and was instrumental in my auto enthusiasm and career! There were many times during one summer, I was awakened in the middle of the night by flashing lights on the street below. There was George, escorting the city police to his house; he always got there before they did! LOL! His younger sister Judt was my baby sitter and walked me to and from school until she went to East High. Of course, she was my first crush!
This car is really neat
That was my first car in high school. It was a stick 6 but those bench seats were wonderful in the drive-in movies
the Y block needs to have both it's main and cam journals "aligned bored" and that motor will rev like a sb Chevy, (okay, almost!). also available (believe in 1957 only?) was a Tbird head that had larger valves.
I know what you mean. I worked at Chrysler central performance engineering starting in 69, I drove Daytona and super birds for Development. Engine dyno was my specialty and those were great days. Funny my honorable discharge in 68 got me the best job. Oh I was driving a FE 67 custom 500 when I can to Chrysler but changed over to dodge, right away. In those days you supported the company and country you were in . Hay I really liked your video, great memories for me. Mr Petty and I drove door handle to door handle.
..... Wow, I had no idea the Paxton was an option for these Fords ... Seeing as they (the Paxton Supercharger) are a 'hot stuff' option for some Studebakers, I just didn't let my mind wander over to other makes ... I guess they were mainly the Avanti's that offered the supercharger .....
I owned (3) 1957 Studebaker Hawks, one had the factory Paxton SuperCharger. Very fast in it's day...
@@dennylang4165 ..... I'm a Studebaker Drivers Club member with 3 1/3 Studebakers ... '53 Champion, '62 Lark Cruiser, '65 Cruiser and a early '50's stepside trailer ... I love the Hawks (any model) and one is 'due' for my 'bucket list' ... Thanks for enlightening me that the Paxton was optioned on more than just Avanti's .....
Grandmire drove Packards and later Caddys, but in '57 she had a Fairlane 500...she lived on the high plains of the Texas Panhandle, and on those lonely roads she didn't play...and her "Fairlane Susie" often saw speeds greater than a hundred
Same ol story. NASCAR has been carrying Chevrolet’s panties for decades.
What would have been cool if an F code was available a F100 pickup.
It was available in the F100. I don't know if anybody ordered one that way. The 312 Supercharged was available in any car or pickup.
Need to keep in mind that this 57 does not represent what the original F code motor was other than outward appearance. Highly modified stroker motor, looks like near 7000 rpm shifting. Not in any way criticizing the machine, amazing build, great video.
Great !
NASCAR has changed the rules so much to pad the way for chevrolets I’m not even a fan but I remember my father in law complaining about there bs rules.
He was so excited when Awesome Bill
From Dawsonville took that track record speed qualifying run.
What a beautiful car,, that 57 Ford is,,,
