According to the back of the box, the D and T buttons are for remapping the Dial and Trigger buttons. You can remap either button to the face buttons, L1/R1/L2/R2, start/select, or a directional key.
Had the asci grip and it was excellent for pass and play marathons of almost anything. Would do a murder for a new Gen compatible one. Note after watching the video : The asci grip is feature complete and ambidextrous as well with doubles for most of the right hand face buttons.
I remember you from watching The Game Station way back when, just subscribed for the great content!! :D Presentation got much much better, and your delivery as well.
I own an Ascii Grip (Got it when FFVII was first released...I'm old). What sets it apart from the Hori controller you used is that the X and O buttons are on the "trigger" locations. This would make your experience with games like Castlevania far easier, along with racers. It was surprisingly well thought out in the layout of the buttons. Honestly, I don't know if you guys have done a video on it yet, but you should get one and try it out as a follow up to this video.
I've got the Ascii Grip stashed away somewhere. Bought it primarily to play FF7 back in the day. The Switch joycons are perfect for "lazy play" - small and wireless so you can play in whatever position you want. Currently playing Octopath with split joycons. BTW Solid choice of PSX games.
Hmm, as a more general controller it'd probably work better if the directions were at the bottom and the action buttons were at the top, so the "heel" of your thumb controls the motions while you press buttons with the end... or the directions could be underneath and the actions on top? Hmm...
I'm pretty sure that if you mapped the rear trigger to a ready weapon button, and you practiced a little, you could play through the Resident Evil trilogy and Silent Hill 1 without having to resort to a claw grip. Edit: Well maybe using the run button might be difficult, since you'll have to hold down Square while simultaneously using the D-Pad.
had the ascii one back in the day and played through many an rpg with it. i which they had one for new consoles it was really great cause after 5 hours or so my hands start to ache with a traditional controller and with the ascii one you could just switch hands
You're comment at 2:34 about the d-pad; is that a reference to it being called a D-pad because you can draw a "D" shape around it? I've never understood that logic. Was that some marketing thing from way back in the day, or just a memetic thing that people started calling it? Cuz to me it makes perfect sense: it's a pad of buttons for 4 directions, being Up, Down, Left, and Right. The Directional Pad. D-pad. I get the idea of a D shape fitting around it, but I'm dubious that that's where the name came from in the first place. It would've made more sense for game companies to call it a Square Pad or something like that, cuz a square fits much more symmetrically around it than a D does. I've always guessed that's just based off people hearing others call it a "D-pad" and misunderstanding what the "D" stood for. Like when people assume that AR15 stand for "Assault Rifle 15" because, ah, sure, that's probably right! Then again I don't wanna make assumptions, so correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe some game company did advertise it as the D-Pad based on its shape, and people started calling it direction-pad later on... but I doubt that...
I hope they make more one handed controllers, Becuase like how shitty would it be to lose a arm and not be able to play games (yes that's my main concern for if I ever lose a arm)

wow, so he looked up words in different language, came up with some weird ass explanation but didn't bother to read the back of the box! Curios...
@@Bobthebhb I mean, was it in a language he could understand? Being Japan exclusive, I highly doubt it...
@@Bobthebhb it was in japanese
Weird title... why mention PS4 if the controller is not even for it?
Adrian Jose for views
Hes comparing it to your ps4 controller
Come on... you didn’t need to put PS4 in the title man
Malachismash. RIGHT?!
Had the asci grip and it was excellent for pass and play marathons of almost anything.

JustSomeDude-Gaming It took me a moment to understand what you were referring to 😂
Hey man! Keep up the good work, you are the best. Nice intro.
love your videos kevin sir. Please make more:)
0:49 "It's not an accessibility controller; it wasn't designed to make it easier to do any kind of other game one-handed"
Me: *not with that attitude*
This is a lot like how you can play Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee with just one Joy-Con or just a Pokeball Plus
I wanna see someone play Dark Souls with this controller
IMPOSSIBLE!!!
If someone can complete Dark Souls with a Guitar Hero guitar then someone can do it with this.
I remember you from watching The Game Station way back when, just subscribed for the great content!! :D Presentation got much much better, and your delivery as well.
Dude, the production level of all your videos remind me of MKBHD. Keep up the good work!
Hi keven Kensington love your videos
I’m guessing the D and the T stands for D-pad and thumb sticks
Hey! love all the effort you put into your vids! keep on entertaining!
Sol Hammer how'd u get ur mii 2 pose like dat
@@naraydaniels7832 I can't remember as I did it ages ago

That TV is rad and retro haven't seen one like that in ages
Major points for including Final Fantasy IX, it's my favorite.
This is actually something I really wanted but nvr thought existed

awsome vidio man!!!
Interesting video! On a side note, there's a decent amount of echo in your videos. I just thought I'd let you know.
you fail to explain any of the features of this controller... was the black scroll wheel like thing explained?
Could you try using the controller with 2 hands? And if so, how would u hold it?
Same
I remember I bought the grip for the original PlayStation and played Final Fantasy 7 with it!!
Great controller for dark souls

Much better title than "Can your PS4 controller twist"
It looks like it was for the ps3 it looks modern I want one to put on a stand by my tv
This can also be used for Telltale games
I would play parappa the rapper 2 with that
Ps4 in the title, only plays ps1 games with it
I had the Ascii ver and loved it
But can it play Dark Souls?
can you do a video on the best reversible covers please 👍
I had an ASCII Grip to play FFVII and VIII back in the 90's. It was pointless but cool to look at.
idk if it would make it better but there are some exclusive point and click games for the ps1 and i wonder how it will do with ps2 games as well
had the ascii one back in the day and played through many an rpg with it. i which they had one for new consoles it was really great cause after 5 hours or so my hands start to ache with a traditional controller and with the ascii one you could just switch hands
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Your videos are cool
So are you
Thats kind of stupid but its fun
Accurate that’s all I’m going to say

It would be perfect for FF7
After reviewing so many controllers and consoles what is your favourite console and controller?
Think there's a typo
maybe the D and T are like the inputs? Like the Dinputs and Xinputs
Remember (D)irectional (+) shape so it's not a + but it is directional
I wonder if the T button allows you to assign any of the face buttons to the trigger?
Amazing!!!! I want this one!!! Where I can buy it???!!!!
How'd you get the PVM?
And have you tried the ASCII Resident Evil Controller?
You say it isn't designed with accessibility in mind but what do you think about the accessibility of it in general?
Nice controller I'm using it for pro gaming
Using a controller for pro gaming 0 iq
Using a Keyboard and mouse for pro gaming 100iq
Using this controller for pro gaming 205729047iq
LSU Cyndaquil The biggest baller Haha yes 😂
Now thats called
Multitasking
If D is defense then would be T be tactical since some rpgs call attacking tactical.

Rerez did a video about a similar controller for the SNES and suspected these are for dating Sims so you can have one hand free
So the Pokeball plus is basically this but with motion controls
2:40 soooooo we're just gonna ignore the weird ass tv
I hope they make more one handed controllers, Becuase like how shitty would it be to lose a arm and not be able to play games (yes that's my main concern for if I ever lose a arm)
