      Personally, I think you've got the perfect set up right now. Everything seems to work well for your needs and frankly Ive seen so many overdone overland vehicles. Its real easy to over do it with our need/want for new stuff when in reality what you already have seems to work very well. Like we used to say in the Army, If it aint broke dont fix it! Either way, I love your videos and keep em up.

      I agree, I think one day I would like to settle on a rooftop tent that isn't just a review unit. From there I think it is just small things, like my filming setup.

    Thank you for sharing your gear video for your Jeep. I have only been overlanding for the last year or so. I've change a few things in my line up. I saw your skottle and it reminds me when you have that overlanding fever sometimes you get carried away buying stuff. I did return my skottle and exchange it with a 2 burner Dometic Pro. I see that everybody have preference to gears. I was blown away with that Long Range America aux tank. I am not sure if I can justify paying $2200 for an extra 17 gallon. I guess we all have favorites. I also have that blue 5 gallon and that appears to be to heavy and also replace that with 4 gallon Dometic with pump

    • @JustinBMcBride
      @JustinBMcBride  Рік тому

      Lots of great tidbits - but remember that this video was from January 2020. A lot of gear has been updated or changed.

    Very well thought out and detailed video, thank you. This also made me run out to my 2 door Bronco to see if I could sleep in it..... I'm 5'8"... I just fit. But I'd need to either have a thick air matress or lay down a platform.

    • @JustinBMcBride
      @JustinBMcBride  3 роки тому +1

      It would be a tight fit in the 2-door. Not impossible with sliding the seats forward, but still a tight fit.

    This Pony Express Trail series has been out 3 years, so you probably won't see my comment, but here goes! I plan on doing the Salt Lake to Lake Tahoe segment solo in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler next spring. I will be tent camping with just an alcohol stove and backpacking food. The biggest issue will be carrying enough gas to make it across Nevada. I'm thinking this will be as close as you can come to experiencing it like the riders did without actually doing it on horseback.

    Love the Jeep! my 16 yo son and I have slept over 30 days in our JK rubicon while bouncing around Canada and Alaska. You can fit two in the back. We put our gear on a hitch carrier and then built an internal rack for the back trunk area. just remember to put feet under the rack. Love the build, want the extra fuel tank! That is on my wish list now.
    as far as keeping everything low for rear visibility, you still have none. 35's and a higher carrier mean you have about four inches of glass to see out of.

    • @JustinBMcBride
      @JustinBMcBride  3 роки тому

      I can see way more out the rear than I ever could on my Tacoma!

    Thank you for putting together the video. I currently own a 2022 392 with an URSA Minor top but have had to sleep inside due to high winds. The Deep Sleep caught my attention as well as the air relocation from American Adventure Labs & the HAM radio,
    Deep Sleep - could you share what the packed size measurements? Also, does the mattress come with a pump?
    American Adventure Labs - do you find the location a tight fit?
    HAM radio - could you talk more about the radio and maybe provide the brand and model. I'm looking to add a HAM radio.

    Hi Jason, I am 6 ft tall and fit very comfortable in the back of my JKU, and have sleeping there the last three years when I travel. My set up is very similar to yours but costs a lot less $$. I use a Coleman Deluxe Single air mattress that I got at Walmart for $25.00 (they were so cheap i bought two in case one gets punctured). What I would like to see you and others do is get away from show casing all of the expensive toys, and share more economical solutions. Such as the Coleman are mattress versus the Deep Sleep, the the Cajun Bayou skottle ($45.00) versus the Tempo Tusk skittle. At the end of the day the result is the same, but I have a lot more $$$ in my pocket for gas. Enjoy your vids but like I said would like to see some tips on how to save $$$ to.

    Hey Justin, Nice set up. I'm still putting my stuff together, and have a similar philosophy about keeping everything low. As per your next mod, I'd recommend an awning or Hasika tent to afford some other living space, that packs away in a small space when you don't need it. Cheers my firend.
