Billy Strings "Running On Empty" "Midnight Rider" Cover Live w Marcus King DelFest 2019 3 AM Lyrics
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 чер 2019
- Strings does his best Gregg Allman growl as lead vocalist and also adds an intricate solo on his acoustic, before King - the leader of his namesake Marcus King Band - steps in with a fluid electric solo of his own. - RollingStone.com
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-on-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I'm running behind
Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it, with what you do to survive
In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned into the road I'm on
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I'm running behind
Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone, but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
Look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes, I see them running too
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I'm running behind
Honey, you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around, but I'm running behind
(Running on) You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
(Running blind) Running into the sun, but I'm running behind

..... should have been the half time ... super bowl... but people are not ready for talent... sadly....
Now that would have been amazing!
Preach brother
He doesn’t have the $$$ yet. Super bowl is a pay to play event. Artists don’t get paid for it, they pay to play for the exposure. Their downloads and streams go through the roof after playing. Record companies try to outbid each other every year for their artists to have a chance to play.
EXACTLY!!!!🤙🏼🫵🏼
The National Felon's League is not worthy of his presence....
I'm 58 and I feel 17 listening to Billy Strings. Something activates in the right hemisphere of my brain and my soul smiles. Thanks, Billy.
Strings. Like on a guitar. Strings.
Well I'm 71 and want rock out listening to him.
I'm 41 and same as. Brill8ant
Billy activates both my hemispheres!
That's better than a ribeye steak with a baked potato! 👍😎👍
These boys are the keepers of the flame. Billy may be that once in a generation kind of talent. Praying for the spirits to watch over them...
Me 2
Same.
❤❤❤
Marcus too.
I feel that way exactly, when I heard him do So Many Roads I cried and laughed at the same time
Billy Strings and Marcus King - the future of rock n roll!

Thumbs up is too weak.. should be like a big heart button
This is the type of preformance thatll make ya cry

Some of the sagest advice dispensed , were just visiting celebrate the gift it’s going to be a helluva ride
Then S T A Y nice! 😉🙂
Good advice..stay away from social media.the world is full of shit including me...
Stay healthy! No man is too great to let others care for him, it goes both ways.... I believe that is what Jerry would say! From my lengthy observations... seems to hold true... peace all!

We all need a big hug and a joint... then let’s all go play nice... rusty water or not!☮️🍭
Marcus king with billy don't get any better. Both the new beginning
Scott Trexler
These young men are killing it... Saw Duanei1969, and he'd be clapping the loudest!!!
The new beginning, the bridge to these Young guns is Charlie Starr and BBS along with TTB and The Mule.
@@GaryBeals charlie is the real deal u ever heard of preacher stone
Marcus KING and Billy! Simply the best.
King & Strings! It's like Jack n coke, Bread n butter, Duane n Gregg!!!
I feel like this is what it must have felt like watching Marshall Tucker or the Allman Brothers live. You just don't realize how good it is until it's gone.
No you don't and yes it's just like watching them I can still hear fire on the mountain enjoy these boys are on fire
I seen the Allman Brother's perform at the Georgia Jam about 22 years ago along with The Doobie Brother's and Skynyrd, it was a Great Show, my Brother and I seen Greg Allman using a payphone and went up to talk to him, we asked the obvious question" You're Greg Allman Right? I had just seen him in the movie Rush and I had no doubt it was him, he didn't respond but the 7 foot tall man standing next to him who was obviously his body guard responded for him and said that's not Greg Allman fellas, we could tell he didn't want to be bothered and we didn't want to bother him so we just walked away but it would have been nice to get a autograph maybe I'll try again if I see him up in Heaven, FLY HIGH FREEBIRD🙏
@joe Recto Better yet go to a show!
All is illusion. How long were the Allman brothers together before duane died? 3 years?
@@thegeorgiacreekwalker491 people who r 2 good? to acknowledge their fans can look elsewhere 2 sell their mdse. and concert tickets. They can just Fuck off...
I don't need to talk about how bright Billy shines on them strangs. Can we talk about those perfect vocals though? My goodness! He really does justice to anything he takes on.
...and bro on the Tele is smokin!
Billys covers always does the original artists Justice!
And what about Hunters "Thunder"!?
That's Marcus King on the Tele... the man
I Met Billy in Kansas not too long ago about 3 weeks maybe. Got to sing for him and play some music with him. He was unbelievably kind and humble I'm so glad he's getting the recognition he deserves!!
Wow!
My kiddos grew up with him . He's as great now as then on the riverbank.
@@nomadnana5565 how amazing that’s so awesome!
Only found Billy this year, F’n Wow. Amazing
Love everything he does. ❤
There's not many cooler scenes these days than Marcus King tenderly caressing a Telecaster, uplit, with a gentle breeze flowing through his ginger locks.
Wow, simply WOW!! Never stop Billy Strings and friends. This world today needs you and the music you bring 💯
Resurgence of true American music... Country music is dead. Thank you Billy Strings for saving our traditions..
Marcus on the Tele just absolutely slaying everything. Holy shit that tone! And Billy is a nothing less than a flat picking god. Two of the best talents to come out in a long time
First time I've noticed Marcus playing a Tele ... he almost always seems to be playing that red 345.
@Billy Strings official bro you’re a legend, keep on blessing us with your art my dude. We’re lucky to have ya
FACTS 💯
This is very much true!
Doesn’t know the words, sucks
A lot of talk about how great their guitar playing is, but both of these guys have unique old-school, clean, soulful vocals, too. Super band.
Seems only natural to have a throwback to one of the greatest country-rock bands in history with Billy's cover of Midnight Rider! Absolutely nailed it, vocals and all!😄🎵🎶
One of the BEST shows I've ever witnessed..in my life. At DelFest late night till 3:45 AM..on my birthday, under a mushroom cloud
Two great young guitarists. They haven't hit their ceilings yet, either!
they'll hit their ceilings when they realize less is more. Long, fast, flashy solos aren't the spirit of this song. Talented, beyond words though
Billy Strings is the " man who saved music" as far as I'm concerned! You don't see his generation having his musical knowledge & the talent he & his band display! BSB is my new favorite band which puts him/ them in the company of The Allman Brothers & the Grateful Dead ,... He deserves to be in the room with them & I know they ( Jerry Garcia, Gregg & Duane Allman would of loved to jam with Billy!! Keep up the awesome job y'all do BS band!!!!!
... Gregg Allman.. Jackson Brown..hung out ..LA.. I believe in the 70's
.. Strings.. King.. incredible..actually
.. far out man..!
This does my heart good to see another generation appreciating the songs that defined my life. Thank you.
Well said Don
Amen - the future of music is in good hands, you just need to know where to find it (it's sure as hell not on the radio).
And played with so much heart!
Those songs defined a couple generations..now the new songs we hear define this shit show 2020
well stated good sir. the days of the good ole jam bands may not be to gone after all
I died and went to Music Heaven.... Thank you.
I was born in 1950. Billy Strings is the condensation of my musical being in the Now.
rationalguy Born In ‘56 here. These guys a crushing it!
I'm right here with ya guys !
These kids do a great job of respecting the legacy and making it modern. Generational talents.
My current favorite artist Billy Strings covering one of my all time favorite songs. I love music
Hey goats Billy won a Grammy
who else remembers sticking in this cassette with a cooler full of beer and a doobie ...heading up to the woods/mountains ...
I remember, because I did it last weekend.
Sadly I had the 8 track..
Yep, just the other day in fact!
@@gwag8410 haha, yeah they were the worst, I had a bunch

Two good dudes neither one show stealers. Just humble respect and love for what they do and sharing their souls with us!
@Billy Strings official thanks for reply. If you ever get to north central Indiana let's go catch some bass. I'll take you out
That comes from this tribe. Just play and partay.
America’s two great young pickers , a Smokin band , and great interpretations of classic songs . It doesn’t get much better than this folks.
How this song "Running On Empty" brings to Me some wonderful memories of my Teenage Years and the Great 70's Bands on Burt Sugarman's "Midnight Hour". Very Happy facing "60" for I had "my' Dream, and I did it ! Rock n Roll back then had just a healing, up-lifting Aura to it ( that I don't see/feel in Today's Music).. It's just a "Ball N Chain" that only the" Pearl" could do at Monterey. and She really put her heart in Soul into that song.
Something special about Billy & Marcus together
Its magic!🔥
Waiting for Billy to make his way down here to southeast Georgia one day. I will miss a day of work to go see this young man live.
The covid kid.
I remember getting dust in a baggie in my YT feed. Went from 10k to 100k in months. Yr later kids won a Grammy. Plays with the Dead.
The quarantine quartet. Slaying it.
Billy, Marcus King, and a few other young people make me feel good about the future.
Makes me glad that our 9 grands will have some decent music to help them get thru
This gives me hope for music…..
These two. AMAZING! Love hearing and watching them perform together. Really careful watching and listening going on there between players awesome to see!
there are no words for how good this was...
Hey guys- When I first saw this I was half in half out of my death pit. This is one of the videos that helped me climb out! Thank you all!🙂❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏✌️🤘🕊🦋.
This has been one of my favorite memories that has gotten me through the past year! Keep climbing the best is yet to come! ❤❤❤🙏🎶🎶🎶
this is God given talent at the next level, these guys will go down in bluegrass history as some of the best to ever play the music.God bless y’all guys 🙏🇺🇸
God blessed those two boys with the awesome gift of music and I'm glad that they, and their bandmates, are continuing to spread the love of playing and making music to the world. It warms my heart to see younger people with such a passion for their craft
God bless these two young musicians playing the songs that are cornerstones of this thing of ours! Rock, blues, bluegrass and country to name a few.
Billy...Marcus ..and ..thankfully ..a whole bunch of “ new guns “ .are here to stay . How about we all just sit back and enjoy them 😎🎸
This.
Ed Petrik Damn straight!
We need these young bucks....all my hero's are leaving me one by one.
Sierra Ferrell
I remember back in the 90s thinking that great music was gone forever. I’ve never been more happy to be wrong.
Wow, Marcus crushing it on (the brief) lead. What a talent.
They both make such GREAT music, but when they are together, OUTSTANDING !!
Being younger than Billy and older than Marcus, I can now officially say that my age has absolutely nothing to do with my skill level. I think these 2 and Molly Tuttle are slowly becoming some of my favorite guitar players of all time. I'll be damned if they don't wanna make you pick up the guitar yourself.......... Keep it up fellas, I'm dragging way behind but I'm with you!
Hoping to see Billy and his great band at Merlefest.. Glad to see and hear about the influence of Doc Watson on this great young talent....
Dude I've been playing for 30 years and I'd be hurting to keep up with these boys
slowly?? :)
Billy and Marcus are both huge talents in their own right and to see them play together, and playing off each other's guitar is a rare treat. A guitar or cadence slip by either of these two while playing live is golden.
I am beyond impressed with this young man… I haven’t seen talent like this in many years.
Rock on, Billy! ✌️
We are getting quality music we haven’t seen in a very long time. Just sit back and enjoy it!!!
FACTS 💯
Marcus gets a perfect sound from every guitar he plays.
2019 Guitar player of the year, and also new artist IBMA winner! Billy Strings!
Brother you have the gift of God think God for you
Great players play with great players. Everyone on that stage is a beast.
All amazing!
This kid has been doing this for a while now but I’m betting he is gonna be around for a long time.
Artists like these boys are the keepers of the flame plus they know how to make their own fire.
Good music for an old man.
Billy and Marcus are the hope for a return to actual music. Fantastic talent!
Dang ! I was 18 again for a few minutes tonight ! Thank you boys , ya'll did my ole heart some good !
It's rare a thing (well actually two rarities) One: two lead guitarist of this caliber on the same stage at the same time. Two: how Billy and his band always, at least, every live performance I've seen (it's hard to put into words) but, I'll say generate so much energy strictly through the passion for what they and their musicianship you really don't notice there's no percussions at all. They epitomize that old saying... "You'll love what we do because we do what we love" you can almost literally feel that sentiment when they're playing.
Rock and Roll will never die!
I love how Billy is "cover"ing a lot of ground in his music. Very cool.
I honestly haven't heard one yet that didn't make me smile and shake my head! He's a true genius and a master of his craft at such a young age!
Sarcasm doesn't work well with texting, but I get it, lmfao
Billy Strings may be channeling some of my generations, but doing classics he is his own big deal today, love him.
Billy Strings. You are gonna go places, my friend!
Both of their music gives me optimism for the future of good music not going to trash. Looking forward to growing old with these guys.
Indeed it certainly does!!!
I know ! There IS hope===there is someone to "fill the shoes" after all.
Kaylie Barker I’m already 75, these guys make me smile and tap my foot!
@@aabce11235 👍
I love this band because of the talent, the melodies and the stories… most of all the natural percussion created is easy on the ear.
Billy and his band mates and the buds they jam with are just such a blessing. Love this adventure we are on now with Billy and the boys.
Great to see people of my generation honoring some of the best rock and roll ever made. Marcus King can shred
Maybe just maybe these boys was sent by them southern boys upstaIrs to revive that sound we loved durin’ all of the 70’s Like Duane Betts/Devon Allman and that bunch….Roll Gypsy Roll!
I dearly LOVE this new generation appreciating our music from the 70's and 80's!
One of the best guitar moments ive ever heard. Back to back. Billy and Marcus are a cosmic duo for sure😮🎉❤
Yes!
Never heard of Marcus King until seeing this video, impressive and great job by Billy, unbelievable guitarist.
Love them both!
Yeah same, man. Never heard of MK until this vid. But have been checking out his stuff, awesome player with gobs of ...that feel if you know what I mean.
Great artist. Check out his Jam in the Van episode. "Goodbye Carolina".
If you haven’t seen it yet.. watch Stubborn Pride vid of MK, Zac Brown, and Jamey Johnson.
Marcus certainly didnt need the help, but it was nice to see these two work together. That was amazing.
Edit: Billy set him up for an epic solo. It was amazing.
This dude is incredible. Hope all his dreams come true.
Marcus has got this country version of Slash thing going on.
There should be a law passed that these two do an album together.
Definately!
"Who's Gonna fill their shoes, Who's Gonna stand that tall".... I think we found some of them Mr. Jones ! Memories of Dickie Betts and Duane Allman when I listened to this.
Enjoy these kids playin my era👍
Billy is a once in a century musician. the future...
YES!
Everything about this is awesome🙏🏻💜🇨🇦
❤️❤️❤️
This is what you call a band “firing on all cylinders”.
Love old school an Billy Strings band are awesome 😎
It was so much fun!
Damn these boys can PLAY..!!.!.! Sounds so good...✌️☮️✌️
DelFest is magical and I really miss when Billy was there but I’m so glad to see how well he’s doing and how successful he’s become.
Wow! Did they just burn through Running On Empty or what? Absolutely fantastic!!
You are amazing Billy!!
I can't get enough.
Never enough!
Billy and Marcus keeping the music alive ✊
This is why you go to Delfest
Found out about Marcus through Billy. Those covers they did in that guitar shop are incredible. This is just as incredible. Marcus is a freaking monster. He's like Warren Haynes with a tad more country in his style. Perfection I tell ya. Perfection.
These two are such awesome individual talents. This was the first time I've seen them play together. I'm so glad they found the same stage and performed on it for whatever reason. Because this was friggin' MAGIC! Neither of them seemed like they were trying to 'cut heads'. They were just enjoying playing! I hope they play together often in the future. It was an honor for me to hear these two perform together, even though it's just on a UA-cam video.
I would just adore a Billy Strings cover album
Billy’s once in a lifetime, king is once in a million
Watched as Billy's vocals have matured over the past few years...but for me...it's still all about Strings strings.💙
Greg & Duane would be proud you did this song!
That's the best cover of Running on empty I have ever heard and I really like Jackson Browne's original version.
Finally a new artist with such an old soul, brings me back to the 70's when music was music.
What a great band. Billy and Marcus are holding The Torch.
The Futures so bright ..I leave the shades open for music like this.. Brilliant gentlemen..
I’ve seen Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton with Mark Knopfler, Jerry Garcia 22 times and more and I can’t wait to see Billy Strings. He is a freakin special talent. King is good too.
I’ve heard more than one head tell me they haven’t had music make them feel like this since he left us in 95’
Definitely worth the trip however long it may be to see Billy Strings, and they get better everytime i have saw them.
Billy is the only person that can cover songs consistently and always have them be better than the originals (no offense to the OGs)
Sooooo true!
Hank jr Waylon Jamey Johnson..
I was there for this front row. My favorite late night at delfest ever. Been going since the first. Killed this
It was an amazing day and night! But they all are at delfest😀
Billy String is pretty f"@*in amazing. Can pick the life out of a Guitar and has the Voice of an Angel
King was channeling an Allman of his own and he did him justice.
