Have a rigid, it died on me a while back. Had it for years, no receipt. I emailed them, all they asked for were a handful of photos of the vac itself, they were specific on the photos, wanting specific angles of specific parts. No questions asked other than that, new vac came in the mail a week or so later.

For anyone concerned about the quality and robustness of the ridgid filter, I've had a ridgid wet dry vac for about 8 years. I don't use the vac every day like some people do but it does get used an average of about once a week. I use it on leaves, garage floor, car interiors, and fireplace ashes mostly. I'm only on my second filter and I take the filter off after every use and bang it against the inside of the trash can. These filters hold up very well.

The 9 gallon Bauer seems to LITERALLY be the fraternal twin of the 4.5 "peak horsepower" 10 gallon Stanley that lives in my shop! The only differences seem to be the colors (my Stanley is black with yellow handles/latches) and the capacity (10 gallons for my Stanley-9 gallons for the Bauer). My old buddy Stanley is still going strong after at least 6 years of sucking up everything from oil dry to sawdust to metal shavings. If he ever gives up on me, I'll be looking hard at the Bauer...along with the Harbor Freight extended warranty (I buy it with ANY power tool from Harbor Freight). If memory serves, I paid $40 for Stanley at my local True Value, which, thankfully, is still in business today!

I have a couple rigid vacs and I like them all and had no issues with them. Yes, the lifetime warranty is a huge plus! That said, I was in HF the other day and finally decided to put my hands on the Bauer Vacs just to feel them out. I always just dismissed them but just feeling them I gotta say I was impressed. You touched on the build quality and you’re right, they do feel well built. I think the slight differences in power are insignificant. I wish HF would modify their warranty to at least include some items/brands with a longer/better warranty. I think it’s time as they are introducing more premium lines and I think that’s what separates them from the other name brands.

I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)

main gain on the Baur is the foam gasket that keeps the suction at peak with no leaks at all time. The negative on the boar is that it doesn't have a sound muffler.
***Try shipping the vac to Ohio for service with the Ridgid! Cost of ship for warranty is the price of a new vacuum. We have seen Ridgid do this with the LifeTime Warranty on Tool storage cases.

The newer Craftsman vacs are made by the same company as Rigid. My local Sears is going out of business and their "Redline" filter fits my Rigid perfectly. After that, I went back to Sears and bought a new hose, extensions, and nozzle ends for cheap. They might as well have had "Rigid" stamped on them.

Good for you....niiiice. Yeah, I noticed the styling of my new Ridgid 12 gal. that I purchased for $75 during the holidays looks eerily similar to the new Craftsman line. I also have a four year old Ridgid 12 gal and it's been a workhorse when I've needed to suck up the remaining couple of inches of water in our 16 ft round above ground pool at season's end. My parents owned Craftsman vacs for decades so that's what I bought when I moved out and got married. When my 6 gal(or was it 8 gal?) finally died four years ago I planned to get a larger Craftsman until I read the reviews which weren't great. That's why I decided to go with Ridgid for two reasons...#1) The reviews were overwhelmingly strong and #2) the two extra hoses and all of the attachments from my old Craftsman fit the Ridgid I was looking at. The other brands I considered had smaller diameter hoses so I would've had to spend more money on extra hoses and attachments. I hope my new Ridgid proves to be as durable as my old unit because I prefer everything else about it in comparison.

I keep buying the "regular model" Ridgids and beating them to death ever couple years or less. All part of the cost of doing business in construction. Ironically we still have an actual Shop Vac brand vacuum that we have used and abused for over 15 years and it just keeps on working, working as well as it ever did anyway. Might have to give the Bauer a try, even though I pledged to never buy Chinese products if I could help it.

On HD.com the price is $65 today. While the Bauer looks and feels better, I am always suspect of the thing you can't see; the electrics. The motor windings. connectors etc. I don't know that they are better in a Rigid but there is the Warranty. Typically the HF stuff has weaker electrics and won't have the longevity. and thus the 90 day deal. The hose connections can be a deal breaker. You have to have robustness there since that is a heavy use item and failure is at least an inconvenience. Thanks Red.

I plan on getting one of these and attaching a dust cyclone. So for me it’s coming down to what has a hose size that’ll fit a dust cyclone that will also fit a table saw.
Because sweeping sucks. And if I can avoid it by dumping a bucket, I’m in. Will it suck paying $150-200 to get a whole set up. Sure. But, it’ll be awesome not spending 45 minutes after each build to clean.

I went with the HF Bauer. And am not disappointed in the least. I had a “real” Shop Vac 4 HP 20 Gallon. I got it in Wisconsin in 1996 because basement flooded. It worked great. Then Missouri, Same issue. Same Shop Vac. Now in 2024 in Texas it started making noise and it was kicking out dust like you would not believe. Still coughing this morning. So 28 years was pretty good especially since I was using it for my Dust collection in the garage with a cyclone and 5 Gallon Bucket. If it dies before me I will be shocked (am 62). So not to worried about the warranty stuff on an item like this.

I’ve been burned by ridgid weaseling out of their LSA. So I’m glad to hear that the Bauer vac did a good job. I’ll definitely switch to that when my ridgid burns out or I just need to upgrade.
I have one of the smaller ridgid and found it to be the worst of both worlds (like a dodge Dakota with a v8. All the fuel economy of a v8 with the power of a v6). The ridgid is loud and not very powerful. I could live with one but not both. Loud and powerful would be ok. Quiet and not very powerful is also ok. I had an old craftsman shop vac that was kinda loud but really powerful. It was great till it went “missing” one day.

It's performed flawlessly so far, and while it didn't come with a crevice tool I discovered that my old Shop-Vac hose with crevice tool fits snugly into the Bauer suction port and saved the day. I clean the filter regularly with my household vacuum's crevice tool, but would you recommend rubber-banding a Shop-Vac paper filter over the Bauer filter? As for noise level, I always wear ear-protective headphones whenever I vacuum or mow the lawn.

Thank you for your video. I am still undecided and may have to buy one of each and hope one lasts as long as they should. There are many comments about how long those older ones lasted. That would be helpful if anyone made them like they used to. I am looking to buy my 3rd wet/dry vacuum with in 3 years. The last two were Shop-Vac’s and the motors overheated on both with little use, obviously NOT made to last! I took them apart, changed bushings into bearings, did a little rewiring but it didn’t help either of them. I have heard numerous people say that Rigid is not the same quality any more and their warranty isn’t what it used to be either. It would make sense that a company trying to produce a more respectable line may put better quality into their product than one who has a good reputation and is now trying to cut some corners but I will test them both out. Too bad you can’t test for longevity on products in the store TODAY! How sad to waste resources and needlessly add to landfills just so people will have to buy more often. Doesn’t even really help in the long run because you run your customers far off with that kind of game and the resulting word of mouth. However, the base makes for a very sturdy trash can or even a rolling seat with storage if you can make your own seat top. Maybe that’s because mine are still shiny chrome since they didn’t last long. Will not buy Shop-Vac brand again now that I know one wasn’t just a lemon. Shame!

I had a couple of Craftsman wet/dry models for many decades and donated them to my son-in-laws whom still use them to this day. After shopping around, I decided on a 16 gallon Shop Vac brand stainless steel wet/dry model from Lowes. After 4+ years I've had no problems other than it doesn't seem to work with cyclone dust collectors. Not the vac itself, but the collectors. It seems that the vacuum is too "strong" and sucks the dust right back out of the collector before it can settle to the bottom the dust bin. I've tried two homemade and two commercial type cyclonic dust collection attachments with little luck. If I can get 10% of the sawdust into the collector I'm doing well. I recently purchased a Rockler Dust Right collector and as soon as I get it together I will give it a try. As to the Rigid's flimsy looking filter, I would have to agree that it is cheesy looking. But the majority of replacement filters at the HD are much better looking quality (with a substantial price). Not sure how the output air flow on the Bauer increased over the input. I suppose one could constrict the output slightly to increase pressure, but the actual output volume would decrease.

Here's what will be the Bauer's downfall (besides the lack of warranty): Replacement filters! HF is notoriously awful when it comes to sticking with a standard and having parts available. I have a Rigid that I bought about 20 years ago. Still going strong. And HD still has filters for it. Bauer changes sizes and styles on items all to friggin time! And anything like a filter may not ever be stocked.
I'd like to consider the Bauer, but I have no confidence that it will be useable a year from now when I need a new filter.

      @denoftools  4 роки тому +1

  • @elcam84
    @elcam84 4 роки тому

I have 2 shop vac brand ones and 3 ridgid ones. I hate the goofy size hose connection on some of the Ridgid vacs. The old ridgid vacs used the same red stripe filter as sears did. Now they use the rubber bottom one which is quick to change and no parts to loose.
I need to consolidate to one brand just so I only need one filter to stock.
The problem with the Bauer is their pricing on filters and bags is way high. $33 for a filter is nutz. But it's most likely a filter you can buy on Amazon in bulk for far less.
I will probably go back with ridgid replacements as time goes on just to have one filter type and one hose connection type. I have been known to buy the black Friday vacs just for the filter and parts.

Where is the drain on the Bauer for a 12 gallon vac that is a lot of water with no drain that can be a problem in situations plus Ridgid has a pump you can install on the drain so when your vac is full of water or when your vac has water you can pump the water 💦 out as you suck water into the vac if you are on a job and you have to empty that vac several times it is better that you have a drain & Ridgid has a lot more features you can buy like better filters and bags a discharge filter hoses and others attachments and upgrades .

The problem I have with the Bauer is:
    1. Options and accessories - seem much more limited.
    2. Filters - how much are they, and do you have as many options as with the Ridgid system?
    3. How long will this line be around, before HB discontinues it, or changes over to like a Hercules line?
    4. Warranty - You mentioned this, but it’s another issue I have. I know HB is good while your under warranty, but you either need to purchase an extended plan, which drastically changes the pricing difference, or hope nothing ever happens.
Otherwise I do like the Bauer vacs…Project Farm reviewed the larger one, and it also performed really well.

I read their website a few months ago regarding warranty before I return it in the 30 days. My issue was a smelled burning motor coils. It said to ship it to them or I spend money driving a few hours to the location. I return checked a few in store for exchange though checked in store. I gave up & did return. I might have just been that batch during the holidays. The only other think I noticed was a air leak though I was testing the HD1800 at the time. I do wonder about their commercial line though not lifetime warranty.

I bought a shop vac wet/dry a couple years ago on black friday at walmart it was really cheap less then $17. It doesnt work nearly as good as craftsmen of old did. It does not have a blow feature which sucks, need it for hvac cleanout. I just found a rag stuck in the hose, was wondering why it wasnt working now working okay again. But would never buy one without a blow feature again. I never use the filter but need to start using it. I mostly use it for water.

Harbor Freight says this compares to a DeWalt DXV09P, but it oddly looks more like a certain other brand under the SB&D umbrella that also wears black and red clothes. You know.....that certain brand that SB&D wants to be the new flagship brand of the company. I never really was a fan of Ridgid tools, and having said that, I would like to see this Bauer vacuum tested against the DeWalt DXV09P that HF claims it compares to and maybe even that other black and red brand as well. Great video as always!!! Another thing I would like to suggest is, IF YOU CAN, AND IF YOU THINK IT MIGHT HELP OR HINDER EITHER MACHINE, using the vacuums for dry pickup like sawdust for example, add in a Dust Right dust separator.

You should do a video comparing the Wen 12 gallon dust collector vs the central machinery 1hp 13 gallon dust collector. I was looking into a better shop vac which is how I saw this video. I came across some videos about how much better the dust collector is. The 13 gallon ones look like they would take up as much room as a shop vac with a cyclone or whatever so it would still be perfect for a small shop.

My Rigid died after having it a few years. Exchanged emails with warranty people and they sent me an RMA number. Had to ship them the powerhead on my dime, but they only took a couple days to send me a brand new complete vacuum with a note saying "sorry your vac was defective, here's a new one!" No receipt needed, no hassle. In fact I slept on the RMA number for several months and then just up and sent it in one day. Not a peep. Can't ask for more than that.

years ago I bought a 20 gallon Ridgid wet/dry. I misplaced the hose somewhere and there is no replacement hose that fits the port. their parts website list a replacement hose but it didn't fit. the old port is about 1/4" larger (non-standard), fortunately I was able to design and 3D print an adaptor. I also have a Ridgid twin blade saw ( their version of the Dual Saw) where they said on the box and documentation replacement consumable parts would always be available - NOPE - you can find a few new/old stock blades for $85 (the original replacements were $39 a set) no other current dual saw blades fit. SO, Ridgid loves priority parts so you have to buy only from them, then doesn't provide replacement parts after the product is discontinued but - hey- throw it out and buy their latest - soon to be discontinued/unsupported products.

Richard Krieb I thought the same thing but on the 20 gallon wet/dry vac the port is bigger than their current vacs, it measures 67.4mm (2.65")- I bought one Ridgid brand 2.5" hose from Home Depot that didn't fit and the second one direct from Ridgid that they listed as a direct replacement part for that vac and it didn't fit either. It wasn't a big deal to 3D print an adaptor. you are right that a standard 2.5" hose fits their current models, I don't know why the 20 gallon is different.
