  • 3D printers are fun and excellent tools. Building a 3D printer can be a huge undertaking, and many get scared of even thinking about it when they hear the word voron next to a "build a 3D printer". But is it that hard to build one? Can you do it?
    Nordfpv is a FPV drone shop in Sweden, but we are also very interested in 3D printers, specially to print parts for drones.
    Follow us here in youtube, or instagram, och check out some of our designs in printables.com.
    Big thanks to LDO motors ldomotors.com/ to help us get our hands in one of their kits.

    Oh COME ON dude. I was gonna do this same video, and I was gonna do exact same color scheme… I just told Polymaker I hadn’t seen one in these colors lol. I’m still gonna do it, but you beat me to it. You killed me!

      Hey!, I'm sorry! :D But I encourage you to still make the video, find a different angle to give, or just do a different style, I'm sure people will like to see it anyway, I know I will!

    I really like that color scheme, looks very sleek! I might steal that for when I (finally) build my 2.4.

    Sure you can build it, but you forgot to mention "tools" I have a lot of tools and it took alot. First note: if you print your own parts Voron made the parts to print without support (doh, i wish i had know that). If you build a kit.. Study all their added suggestions, they will vary from the Voron build and you need to find them sooner than later. Read each instruction muliple times, if you miss even one bolt it could cost you fustration. This is a build that would be infinitely easier the 2nd time.. Perhaps think about assembly with the intention to reprint parts and assemble a 2nd time. But you still need tools, lots and lots of tools.

      You are right, and they actually made a difference between when I built the V0 and the 2.4. I was more prepared, with more tools for the 2.4 and that helped a lot.
      Thanks for bringing this up, I wish I could edit the video and add this in there.

    Absolutely very well put and edited talking head video! I currently have a V0.1 and after configuring and tweaking some profiles, I can print ABS for the 2.4r2 350mm I am going to build in the future. LDO kit for my V0.1 made building a breeze and I will definitely go with the LDO 2.4. Definitely going to prepare myself for the 5 manuals I will have to examine while building the printer but I know for my needs, building the Voron 2.4 will be a great addition to my arsenal. Again, great video and keep doing what you're doing.

    It is not hard it is just not cheap 😜. You definitely got your points esp for people who seek perfection and enjoy building. To me this seems like a trend and also like a tribe and most is making the same thing with similar signature esp the head. I like to see Vorons going into other mechanism apart from CoreXY and the boxy structure. Good video, Thanks for sharing 💕

    Love your clear and concise discussion of this printer and the mods. Everything is done so cleanly and carefully. I would like to know you thoughts on whether you would recommend building a Voron 2.4 or wait for the Bambu Lab X1 carbon. I like the idea of building it myself and the larger build plate (350mm) but wonder whether you have had a look at the X1 and would really appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks in advance.

      Hey Nick, I have watched many videos, discussed about it in many forum, but I have not used it myself. Still my conclusion is the same. In general I think there are 2 kind of people involved with 3D printers, one that print parts for fun/work/business, and the other one that enjoy the building process as much as printing, or even more.
      The Voron is great for the builders. You get to do everything, you get to understand everything, but you get to put a lot of time in doing all that. If your goal is just to print, voron is not the way. If your goal is to build, mod, design, evolve your printer and your prints, then voron is a good option.
      The bambu seems to be great at printing, but forget about modifying it, adding much, or I even wonder about reparability.

    Thank you for creating this video. I am very tempted to build a voron and am doing a lot of research right now. I keep hearing the LDO kit is one of the better kits out there instead of sourcing the materials myself. I think that’s probably the best direction to go it seems. Does the instructions talk you though how tight something needs to be?
    When something says “tighten this down” I tend to over torque stuff. 😂 So I was curious if they have torque specs when tightening things down?

    • @NordFPV
      @NordFPV  Рік тому

      Hey. LDO kit is great and instructions are very good. But they don’t get to that point of telling you how much to tight up a screw, not even things like the belts. I think you need a bit of experience to know how much to tight a screw in a plastic part vs in a metal. Now that I remember there are certain parts that mention “carefully don’t over tight it”

    Building it isn’t the problem
    The software instructions are woeful
    After spending ages trying to get it sorted I dumped mine

    • @NordFPV
      @NordFPV  Рік тому

      Hi Padraig! and thanks for your comment. I guess it all depends on your personal background. For me, who have experience with software, the difficult part was the mechanic, software was a brief, and it took just a few minutes to get it up and running. Tuning is another whole topic, but to configure it and make it run was much easier in my case than the build.

    • @padraigmurphy6442
      @padraigmurphy6442 Рік тому

      @@NordFPV I agree depends on background and experience which I admit I don’t have any with the software side of it.
      I do think it’s a pity that so much hard work time and effort went into the design and the making of the build manual and then little more than a foot note for the software.
      I think the problem with many open source machines and their design teams is that the people involved are so talented and experienced with the software side of things that they assume everyone else has similar skills.
      Nobody’s fault just the way it is, the hope is that if more people comment on why the build didn’t work out then those aspects of the build will get some much needed attention.

    • @NordFPV
      @NordFPV  Рік тому

      @@padraigmurphy6442 You are right. I never thought about it, but the mechanic manual is great, the software instructions are very dispersed. And I agree with you that a lot of this has been done by intelligent people who assumes other have the same knowledge level. I think that was the main problem with the first manual for the 2.4, right?

    What size is your printer? Looks like the 250?

    • @NordFPV
      @NordFPV  Рік тому +2

      300x300. I think for me an ideal size will actually be 250x250, but since I also have a V0 I chose to build a 300x300

      Hi Martin, my recommendation will actually be to go with the PIF program. They sell the part at a very good price (almost cost), they are the best quality, and you are dealing with people that knows what they are doing. I believe you can discuss with them colors and mods and so on.
