I noticed that the table the printer is sitting on is oscillating during the print. Even though the printer goes through shaping calibration to compensate for resonance, if the system is near it's natural frequencies it can cause ringing in the print finish. A fun experiment is during a print start to add some heavy weights to the table and it will change the ringing pattern in the surface. It will also change as the gantry moves upwards because of the mechanical advantage of the test mass (print head). The problem is also amplified as the acceleration and velocity of the print head is increased. It increases by the velocity squared and the acceleration cubed. I cured this problem by putting my printer on the kitchen counter that's essentially immovable. Using flexible pads under the feet of the printer can cause similar problems. The audio quality of your production has improved. Great review as usual.
At one point, the table was moving so much, my brain tried to convince me that was a bed-slinger. I really think a couple of those tests need to be re-done with the printer sitting on a more stable surface, like the floor? Especially the Alpaca and wastebasket prints.
Great review as usual! Sovol was smart to start with a known and proven platform combined with features from other printers. I'm saving my money to buy the replacement for my beloved dialed-in heavily modded CR-10 300mm x 300mm where my reasons to upgrade would be print speed and bed size. The SV08 is tempting.

Thanks for the great review, it was amazing to see you surprised by this printer's performance.

I have used SOVOL printers for a while now and any of the models that use the induction probe have z-offset issues. The solution is to toss it in the trash and put a BLTouch in its place. Both my SV06 and SV07 Plus had near identical issues as this until the probe was swapped out. Since then perfect zoffset with no drift EVER.
My SV06 seems to have a systematic bias in the probe, so that on the left the nozzle was too low, and on the right it was too high. I was able to fix it by manually editing the probed mesh, adding something like [+0.04, +0.02, 0, -0.02, -0.04] to each row. I honed in the offsets by printing small squares, and issuing the mesh edit G-codes from pronterface's terminal.
@@renxulaThat's X-axis twist. The probe is offset from the nozzle in Y so any twist in X translates to a changing Z-offset from left to right. Make sure your Z towers square to the base. You can also install Marlin with Z twist compensation.
@@p39483 Thank you! I hadn't thought about it, but that makes perfect sense. If they had put the probe exactly in line with the nozzle, the twist wouldn't be an issue 🤦♂️ I'll try to straighten the frame, and have a look at the compensation feature now that I know it's a thing. Cheers!
I would love to see an update video if anything ever gets released from Sovol to make the out of box experience better. Or any modification the two of you have decided to do.
What Sovol had done here, if you can step back and appreciate it, it LEAP forward from the "small improvement" mindset to looking at what the best printer you can get is, and then producing it with very little loss of quality and delivering it at a reasonable price and open source to ensure plenty of user mods. They Unbambu'ed the industry. Creality copied the X1C, (sort of) Sovol said "nah, if we are going to copy, what is the best printer I can get?" then copied THAT. It will force the other players to follow suit. Bambu promised and end to bed slingers, Sovol is moving toward that and dragging all the also rans with it.
1:07 potential fire on startup. I just ordered a unit and I am on the fence If you go back to that time stamp you hear the unit turn on and you see a spark right where the logo is on the head.
Great review. Sovol's are such a mixed bag to me. Their low price is attractive to new users but these printers are NOT designed for them. Instead they're really for advanced users that know how to work around the inbuilt in flaws of these cheaper products. What keeps me from buying more for Sovol is that they use a lot of proprietary parts now which runs counter for the needs of advance users to fix part flaws.
Actually I received my printer in a day before yesterday, and tbh they fixed almost all their issues. Auto Z offset isn't really needed, now the first calibration works just well, as well as wifi setup. And the best part is - they have CAD files for all their components, so if something fails - nobody stops you from reprinting that part. Yep, it wasn't designed for 3d printing, but for injection molding, but when you have .step model for the whole printer, it isn't hard. And there's a manual how to convert it to mainline klipper (yep, they're running "their" version, but it's totally compatible with mainline)
I love you I love you I love you... I am happy with this review this is perfect for what I want to do and I am definitely getting this. I AND as you mentioned I can tweek it to make it perfect for my application. Thank you. Your work is awesome.
Those tolerance test results seem sus (not doubting your results, but that's a VERY good result). Could it be a result of the under extrusion that Nero3d had with his? Did you by chance check e-steps? I've seen a lot of manufacturers shipping klipper machines with improperly calibrated e-steps.
Just watched that section again, twice, and I don't see any signs of under extrusion. If anything with the wispy stringing between parts and openings they may be able to drop the flow/EM by .5%.
Amazing review, very into depth! Really exciting machine, I would have got one if it wasn't for the proprietary hotend. I also think the fact that they don't use aluminum extrusion is a bit of a letdown as well, 2020 (or any other size) gives you so many mounting options for every mod that you can dream of. Great machine for its pricepoint and a lot of similarities with the 2.4 but if I speak for myself, I don't think it will compete with building a voron. Its a different experience (sourcing, building, configuring, tuning and modding)
Lost in Tech mentioned that the inductive proximity sensor has an offset by heating the bed which heats the proximity sensor which causes an small error an causes some height offset. Well, he can probably explain better.
I have heard of it but I have 3 printers with sensors I used for couple years and never had that issue yet. If it happened, I would replace the sensor thinking it's broken.
Your reviews are amazing. I line that you always print the same items so we can compare. I would like to see you include as standard a talky of how many models you printed vs how many failed
The tolerance test work because they underextruded everywhere, you can see it on the top surface. It's an easy way to win tolerance tests, but it's not good practice: less strength.
Since extrusion multiplier is a material parameter and not a printer parameter, maybe it would be better to tune it before doing any further print, of any kind, so that comparisons are fairer.
This was a great review, at RMRRF this year I seen a couple different multi color options for this printer (not yet released) Im so excited for what will come of this!
I found the title interesting as most voron 350mm v2's can reach accelerations upwards of 8000-9000 typically. I'm curious if they are using a different belt path or motors that aren't quite up to the normal LDO/moons standards. - still though, so long as it's overall durability and maintainability is relatively good, $500 is pretty amazing for a v2 wannabe. - I do wish, however, that they designed it to be enclosed (re spool holder, filament sensor, etc. - it does look like it comes with some decent hex drivers, though I did notice that they are ball head hex drivers which should NEVER be used for final tightening of anything as it's really easy to strip your screw heads when applying torque... you should always use FLAT hex drivers for final tightening of anything like that. personally I bought a set of cheap flat drivers and a set of cheap ball head drivers for my 3d printer building. I think all-in it was like $15 for 5 of each in the common sizes. it would have been way cheaper had i gotten them from aliexpress.
Another fine video and review. This is an excellent machine and I hope that Sovol fixes the small issues iteratively improves it. Is there enclosrue options available? Question - I note that your table holding the machine bounced or vibrated significantly during printing. Is this causing any ringing issues?
Hello Aurora !! Thanks alot for your videos.. I have a question for you.. I see in your videos you using Lift height (Travel lift) in your prints.. What is the mm that you use?
They should lower the default speeds/accelerations, increase the default retraction distance slightly, and lower the default z offset slightly. I'm very curious about those minor tweaks enhancing the quality. Great review still as always! 👏
Excellent review. Do you think more flow rate than this printer can offer is necessary when printing with their 0.6 nozzle? Is it reaching the limit of the speed with 0.4?
Some other reviews mentioned the PSU fan running 24/7 is this still a thing. Really dont want to have to turn off the printef when not in use. Thanks for the review.
Great Video! Since this seems to be an educated group, does anyone have a longer-term opinion of this printer? I'm shopping for a larger format printer to replace my elegoo neptune 3 max that has been a nightmare.
I've been thinking about getting a 3rd printer, but I'm stuck between the Sovol Sv08 and the Creality K1 max. Can the two even be compared? Any suggestions to which one I should consider? Thanks for your help.

@@EcoHamletsUKI think a better test would be all printers at the same speed (say 300mm/s) as that will show the true king Vs the 2 min benchy guy
@@jamietheaker3287 True but she does a lot of testing already. Still a recap on all the fast printers doing that would be great. You could also speed up the slower printers to see if they can match the SV08.
After watching this review I ordered the SV08, two months ago I ordered the parts to build a VZBOT 330 but Aliexpress lost the order before it shipped and kept my money, Mellow 3D can't get paid from Aliexpress and is also screwed. Thanks for the great review, it was amazing to see you surprised by this printer's performance.
You broke UA-cam by not Dilly Dallying. I appreciate your efficient and comprehensive reviews and tests. Bravo!
Hi to you both, wonderful review as usual. I'm a long-term follour of your channel and respect your synopsis.
What I would like to see now is a foll up review to see if improvement has been released to the software/firmware that would corect the issues you experienced. I would also like to see how you setups the BTT PAD7. Thank you again for aĺl your helpovar the year.
Regards. Mike
Cheers!
Do you have a tutorial for this?
I would love to see an update video if anything ever gets released from Sovol to make the out of box experience better. Or any modification the two of you have decided to do.
Great, to the point reviews, and total (brutal :-)) honesty. I love it.
Great review , one thing you missed is the size! The desk space needed for this is quiet prohibitive for those of us already cramming in printers
Theres always room for more printers Mark , Couches can be removed, plenty of room in the bathroom, Dog house can hold one etc. 😂
I'm wondering how this machine does compared to Troodon 2.0 Pro
Thanks for the wifi setup helped me get mine going.
Thanks for this review. I bought one at early bird and I think its a good machine. Just need some optimisation in the config.
Thank you for a great detailed review.
1:07 potential fire on startup.
I just ordered a unit and I am on the fence
If you go back to that time stamp you hear the unit turn on and you see a spark right where the logo is on the head.
I canceled my order. Sovol seems nice for the price but I want something a little more polished. Maybe a qidi I dont know anymore
Exactly. The idea that a proprietary printer full of proprietary parts is a "voron" is quite an accomplishment for Sovol...
Excellent review, thanks!!!
Young lady you are by far one of the best UA-cam reviewers bar none! Has sovol shown interests in your "cons" list? IE feedback
I love you I love you I love you... I am happy with this review this is perfect for what I want to do and I am definitely getting this. I AND as you mentioned I can tweek it to make it perfect for my application. Thank you. Your work is awesome.
Another great review!
Pretty insane offering, hands down.
Great review as usual!
I suppose you could have an overextrusion test where the cylinders are not meant to fit.
Its a different experience (sourcing, building, configuring, tuning and modding)
they are making an adapter for the hotend to be able to use any nozzle.
Lost in Tech mentioned that the inductive proximity sensor has an offset by heating the bed which heats the proximity sensor which causes an small error an causes some height offset. Well, he can probably explain better.
I heard that the issue has been fixed
@@0blivionStud10swhere did you hear that
That's always been the case with a proximity sensor though.
I have heard of it but I have 3 printers with sensors I used for couple years and never had that issue yet.
If it happened, I would replace the sensor thinking it's broken.
SSID is case sensitive in Linux. This is usually what causes issues when adding pi credentials
Yesss, a new Aurora review!
This will be my next printer for sure!
Awesome. This might be my pick.
Really good results for this instable table under the printer :D
All of your reviews are incredible! Can you do a review of creality sermon D3 Pro?
Not sure yet, but I will review a few Creality machines in the coming months.
I’m having a problem with how loud it is. Any suggestions on making the movement quieter?
Can you recommend me this printer for big print parts like a headlights? What is necessary to upgrade for print with PA-CF material?
thanks for the great review.
Outstanding review as normal.........😊
I've been thinking about getting a 3rd printer, but I'm stuck between the Sovol Sv08 and the Creality K1 max. Can the two even be compared? Any suggestions to which one I should consider? Thanks for your help.
Where did you or rather what slizer was used Thank you and again fantastic review
It came with OrcaSlicer and the printer profile in the USB drive.
Thank you @@AuroraTech
Sooo the sovol 08 can have the same print quality as the x1c if the speed is just turned down?
@AuroraTech Hey, do you still recommend this printer ?
Sv08 vs Ender 3 v3 plus.
It would be my first 3d printer.
Please visit my website auroratechchannel.com for my recommendation list.
@@AuroraTechyeah i regularly visit your site. Its great.
BTW, Which printer do you recommend for printing abs, has a volume of 300mm³ or greater and comes around 600-700 dollars.
Feedback for website - also add a column which is best recommended printer by filament type.
Is it possible to upgrade to the enclosure later after buying?
could you test what speeds will get the best print quality this machine can produce?
I preordered but I am looking for quality and speed...not sure about bamboo since theirs are more expensive and smaller...
Can CREALITY’s SONIC PAD be used instead of its TOUCH SCREEN?
will the microswiss k1c head interchange with the sv08 ? I want to provide my own volcano nozzles for 0.8 instead of buying one for 30 euros from sovol which isnt even a volcano nozzle
I'm pretty sad you don't compare the prints to the one of the Flashforge 5M. If I recall correctly, your complaints about that machine were software related, but the print quality was excellent so it would be nice to see the prints compared to it. Thanks.
Are you going to review the new Qidi plus 4 ?????? and when is Bambu going to make a bigger printer???
Coming up next
@@AuroraTech I think you also have the New larger Bambu printer back there in your garage!!! LOL
but the value of the volumetric speed
1) where can I find it I look on the internet not all filaments have it.
2) does it affect the maximum speed at which I can send the printer? If so, how do I calculate it, thanks in advance
Did you really need to make the full first layer test with this exact filament? Now im feeling hungry for lasagne
