THIS WEEK’S FEATURED WATCH: Diamond Rolex Day-Date Ref. 118348 Lavender Jade Dial
Find the Rolex 118348 for sale here: www.bobswatches.com/pre-owned...
The Day-Date traces its roots to the 1950s, making history as the first mechanical wristwatch to display the day spelled out in full (never abbreviated) alongside the date.
Since then, the collection has positioned itself as one of the most luxurious in the Rolex canon, utilizing the finest materials, design elements, and gemstones on the market. Furthermore, the Day-Date is always made from precious metal (never stainless steel) and is one of the only models to sport the now-iconic President bracelet with semi-circular links.
Ref. 118348 enjoyed a few years of production before it was discontinued and replaced with the current generation of Day-Date watches.
What makes reference 118348 particularly fascinating is the factory diamond bezel set with 52 dazzling brilliant-cut stones. Ref. 118348 is a platform for some of the Day-Date’s more opulent designs, including models with deep green dials, mesmerizing wave dials, and even diamond-encrusted Pave dials to match the glittering bezel.
LAVENDER JADE DIAL: The example the team unboxed this week has one of the most unique Day-Date dials on the pre-owned Rolex market: genuine lavender jade decorated with a pave diamond carousel design.
Each spoke on the carousel wheel represents a different hour marker, while the day is perfectly framed between spokes at 12 o’clock, and the date sits prominently at 3 o’clock.
Fascinating dial and bezel aside, this model is comparable to the ref. 118238, which features a fluted bezel instead of a diamond bezel.
CASE: It has the same 36mm Oyster case as ref. 118238, boasting a Twinlock screw-down crown that is waterproof up to 100 meters, polished lugs, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and an engraved rehaut.
MOVEMENT: Inside the case beats the caliber 3155 self-winding mechanical movement, the first in the Day-Date series to offer a convenient Double Quickset. With this function, the wearer can adjust the day or date displays with a quick twist of the crown instead of winding it to a full 24-hour rotation per day.
The trailblazing caliber has since been discontinued to make way for the current production caliber 3255, which, among many other things, boasts a longer 70-hour power reserve compared to caliber 3155, with a 48-hour power reserve.
BRACELET: One of the most distinguishing features of the Day-Date is the three-link bracelet, which is almost entirely exclusive to this series. It features rounded three-piece links with satin-finish links flanking high-polished center links.
CLASP: Ref. 118348 sports a concealed Crownclasp, which is almost impossible to distinguish from the other links on the bracelet if it weren’t for the tiny Rolex coronet.
The Day-Date was initially developed for men. However, models like this remarkable jade Rolex will also appeal to women.
Rolex 118348 Price: Prices for ref. 118348 vary drastically, depending on the dial type, condition, and additional diamonds or other gemstones on the dial.
The lavender jade dial Rolex trades hands for around $57,000 as of March 2024.

What a stunning piece! The Lavender dial paired with factory set Diamonds is truly amazing. I've never seen this piece before either, I would definitely wear it even after first glance! Beautiful.

I'm not into yellow gold watches but Oh. My. Gosh! This is absolutely stunning! If I spent this much money on a watch, it would have to be my everyday watch.

What did Ripley say at 9:03 “keep your other ones in the…”? It’s driving me nuts 😅

Crown unscrewed on the Tudor with the NATO? Or is the fit just that bad?

Thanks for watching. Ripley’s wrist check watch is exactly as it should be in this episode. If you’re familiar with this Tudor Black Bay 79500 (linked in the description), there’s a colored crown tube that appears a bit protruding but is in-fact screwed down. Hope this helps!

Pavé (pah-VEY) not pave (payve) diamonds.
