I just bought the same watch in the UK. My collection over time has changed. 40mm is max size and for my first ever precious metal day date I too went 36mm. I was happy with either Roman or diamond and it just so happened that they had a champagne diamond dial. It’s a beautiful watch and I’m very happy that I stuck to my guns and went 36mm rather than the more popular 40mm. If it’s good enough for Tony Soprano who has a much larger wrist than me, then it’s good enough for me!
Excellent information. I agree with the idea that 36 mm is just perfect size. Not loud not distracting. 36 mm is simple, silent and elegant at the same time. I definitely don't want the watch that scream louder with larger case size. And again this depends on the wrist size.
Very informative video, thank you. I have watched it 2 times allready! I visited the only Rolex AD in my town last Saturday and bought a Dayjust 31mm to my wife (my first Rolex purchace ever. There were only one Rolex watch available for men and it was this exact Daydate 36mm yellow gold champage model with diamonds. After researching this model whole weekend and also thanks to your video, I realised I have to have this watch as my first personal Rolex. Still can’t understand how lucky I am this watch being available as at the same time this AD does not take any orders for Subs, Daytonas etc… Ps. the watch looked perfect on your wrist ;)
Thanks a bunch! It means a lot to me! I feel like my 36mm collection is complete. I'll take a break for a while, but hopefully my 40mm collection might soon be within sight of completion too. Feel like I'm going through a similar process as you.
Nice 36mm collection! I love the 36mm Rolexes and especially think the current 126234 is a home run over the previous iteration. I enjoyed your video, which gives me some ideas of how to flesh out a 36mm collection. I'm returning to buying some Rolexes after years of neglecting the brand in favor of other precious metal strap watches. The current designs have really caught my eye, blending the more elegant, streamlined proportions of 20+ years ago with a modern aesthetic. With the Day-Date 118238, Rolex never went into what I call the clumsy clunky era of trying to catch up to in the big watch movement. While the case is very subtly refined in the 128238, the main advantage is the 70 hour power reserve. In any case, I have a NOS 118238 being delivered tomorrow, and I'm excited to join the Day-Date club!
Congratulations on the Day-Date! I agree the 128238 case design is not drastically changed, but the biggest improvement to me is the ceramic sleeve inserts on the bracelet pins to prevent stretch. I've heard from multiple sources including my AD that the new 36mm DDs have them. That's a huge game changer in the long run if you keep it for decades.
That’s a special watch. Take good care of it and it will last forever. Thanks for watching, I’m posting another video on this Day Date today or tomorrow
At 10:53 you mention the OP 36 and Explorer similarities. I have a 2016 OP 36 with a dial that everyone mistake's for an Explorer. I agree with you on that comment.
My dream watch ! I was thinking of getting 9k in wheels & tires but i started to think i should get a day date used rolex yellow gold , that watch my kid will rock , & wheels/tires they wont ! godwilling ! Great video
I love your collection. The first thing is I’d notice any of these beauties you ware. I have a day-date, pie-pan, acrylic one, circular 1967. Just had it refurbished, awesome champagne dial with sticks, keeps perfect time, it’s the coolest vintage piece I own. Also wear a date just from 1987, white gold bezel, silver dial, bought it when I was 21. Still runs excellent. Anyway enjoy your time pieces, I know I do! Matt
Thank you. My newer pieces are much more blingy than my older ones. My pre-modern white dial DateJust from 2004 is very simple and low-key, but it’s still a classic (and some day it will become vintage!)
@@sc1 well SC, you are so right, I just love your line of thinking. If you would have caught me on the street, I probably would be wearing my 2005 Omega Seamaster. @@matthewfriend2230 I would feel a little nervous about wearing my Day Date in an unfamiliar location, or with unfamiliar people, but I have no problem with wearing it daily to work and back home. I’m also fine with wearing my white DJ or black OP almost anywhere. Those bracelets are brushed and not very reflective. But if you have your Day Date on a leather strap, and you keep aware of your surroundings, I think you should be fine.

Do you feel it’s worth the price tag? Like your getting all of the 38k spent ? I’m on the fence of getting new or used in the exact model but with stick dial markers
Well I wasn't expecting diamond dial. Looks great! Im just wondering if the AD just said that in order to get you to buy the diamond instead of the stick as most people buy the stick. Solid choice regardless and fantastic addition to your collection. With your purchase history i think it will be easier to get the new explorer from your AD. Id sell the old explorer and the black OP for the new explorer. How was the pick up experience itself? Looking forward to your daytona video ;)
Can't say for sure. I think the diamond dial DD availability was definitely sooner, but can't be sure if the stick dial delay was exaggerated. They did give me a choice either way... I'm surprised they haven't received any of the new 36mm Explorers at my AD. I wish I could just try one on. I'm concerned whether the bracelet might be too narrow, since my 114270 feels like it has the perfect proportions (but has an outdated bracelet and movement). Pickup of the DD was great, especially explaining all the gold symbols under the microscope, and talking to both of the managers. Just didn't have much time before getting to work, and I should have made sure they included the foam topper over the green box. I have a feeling the Daytona will be a long ways away. I'll wait to see if the TT Black dial shows up, but if not, I'll ask if I can pre-order the WG Black diamond dial Daytona.
@@sc1 Thanks for the response! That would be fantastic. I wouldnt give up on the WG blue dial daytona either and I wouldnt settle for the two tone black. Is there any grey dealers close to you where you can try the watch on? I think the bracelet/movement update is enough reason to get it. Truly a classic piece with a modern update. Never say never!
The supply of any Rolex model just seems to be shrinking by the month. I keep hearing on UA-cam and from my AD manager that they don't expect things to get any better. Frankly, the new Explorer is not that essential for me, since I already have the 114270 and OP36, but I'm more wanting either the Daytona TT Black dial, WG Blue dial, or WG back diamond dial. Any one of these would be wonderful. I don't want to seem too pushy with my AD, but on the other hand, I'm afraid the window is closing, and I'm thinking should keep asking for any of these three as much as possible, until I hear a definite no....
Congrats on the purchase. As an owner of this watch, I have to say there may be something off with the alignment on your day wheel. The way it was moving to the next day wasn't how it normally works. It wasn't snapping evenly, but rather off centre. Even when you had it on Thursday it still looked misaligned. Something to look into
While I'm changing the day in the third position, it snaps, but it is always off center, but once I push the crown back to first position, the day always snaps back to center. Maybe the camera was at an angle, but it looks pretty center to me when I look at it with the crown screwed down.
Nice addition to the collection! I have also been thinking of getting a gold or white gold rolex. But what has kept me from doing it is also the attention it might get from strangers. I also collect watches for my own enjoyment and I dont really like it when someone knows that its a Batman, Pepsi or Starbucks and whats its worth. I hope one day ill be ready for a day-date or gold/white gold daytona. Enjoy the new collection update. P.S. I would also sell the OP and explorer 36 and upgrade to the new Exp 36.
Thanks for commenting. White gold is not too flashy, especially if the other colors are muted, like the steel grey dial WG Daytona. A green bezel steel Sub or red/blue steel GMT might be even more noticeable than some WG models. ...But yellow gold really draws people's eyes, even if it's partially concealed. It's just something I need to keep in mind when wearing.
Congratulations on getting the watch. It's a stunning watch but too bling for me. If I had to choose one it would be the platinum without the diamonds. I hope you will wear it in good health for many years to come!
I tried this exact watch on this weekend at my local Rolex dealer. This was the only one they had in stock, and only 1 remained. I’m tempted to purchase it. However, if I do, I will leave it in the box and never wear it.
Well in my opinion that is the best-looking Rolex I would buy it. But I bought the poor man's Rolex Date just with a mother of pearl face with diamonds a diamond bezel for bling, 2 tone bracelet. Congratulations enjoy your watch.
Thanks for sharing! in my experience, I buy what I can get at the moment, but there will always be a chance for me to upgrade a few years down the road.
Question is it bad for me to keep my day date on a watch winder when I'm not wearing it I've had it on since I bought the watch winder about 6 months ago and haven't let it rest since then
No one knows for sure. I don’t keep any of my watches on a watch winder. Rolex ADs have never kept theirs on a watch winder, even 10 years ago when they were sitting still in the store. My opinion: don’t let them rest long enough to reduce lubrication of the oils. But you don’t need to constantly work them, and it may prematurely wear down the movement. I would rather keep them rested, but wear them on a routine rotation to keep the oils moving.
@S C thank you very much for your response by the way I love you're watches I hope to have a collection as big as yours someday I only have two at the moment but hopefully I'll have 1 more if the ad calls me
Congrats, it’s of course a classic. I just hate gold;) I only have one pink (rose) gold jaeger 🌙 , but with leather. That’s my dressing watch, otherwise it’s steal for me. If u r into it, it’s a very classy choice.
Depending on where you live you might become a target and get killed or robbed for your Rolex. The more people don’t notice it the better so I agree it’s not always a good thing drawing attention to yourself. Some watch don’t draw attention like the Casio F91W which is my daily only watch enthusiast really would know and appreciate it or people who got a thing for classic retro gadgets. It’s cheap shows the time, if I ever own a Rolex or high end luxury watch I’ll just wear on special occasions and places rich folks go to. I don’t think anyone should lose their lives or be in harm’s way over a watch but unfortunately reality is harsh.
I appreciate the reminder. I'm normally aware of my surroundings (since being in the military) and keep it under the cuff, and wear it in secure locations. It's always prudent to be careful, but I enjoy wearing it too.
Nice to have a President but there’s no good reason not to have waited for the classic stick dial. Gold is enough, the diamonds make it more Vegas than Jack Nicolas.
I had my father's watch from 1984 just like it and it got stolen. I only keep the box and papers with me plus the original black alligator strap with a gold buckle. You have no idea how I regret this so I envy you and admire your collection. However no one can wear them all so if you allow my suggestion get rid of the OP and the Explorer they seem out of place to me. And do get the Daytona instead, that would round up your collection. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing. Actually, My father owns the same watch from 2008 except without the diamonds. Since then, I’ve always wanted to have something similar to his. That’s why I asked for the stick dial, but only the diamond dial was available to purchase. Now we share (almost) the same watch. I just want to remove either the OP or EXP36, but I’m struggling to decide which one. But I’ll keep asking for a Daytona too. The supply is very dry.
@@ZephDweri form my very own house, I kept the watch under lock inside my desk apparently it was stolen by the new housekeeper whom we never saw again, she only lasted 1 week while I was away from the house. It was a strange event still leaves me doubts.

@@sc1 THAT'S ok. I would be a little disappointed but it doesn't make much difference. Gold GMT is a big boy watch.
No discount ? Paid retail
Im 6'6 tall and i like 36 over 40 more. What you think what is right for me?
You couldn't go wrong with either. I think the 36mm is classic, but the 40 is too big on my small wrist.
What dealer did you go through if you don’t mind
My closest authorized dealer in Pennsylvania. They said they only sell to local resident though.
@@sc1 ok thanks

❤❤❤
I'm interested how much
current retail price listed on Rolex.com
I want to work under you if there any job available let me know I also want this watch but can't afford 😢
Why you chose 36 over 40?
I have a tiny wrist
My end game piece it's the yellow gold day date
Yes, it’s a Premiere piece. Unparalleled in it’s class.
Over a year for a 36mm day date stick? Damn…
Fair point, but it seemed close enough to me, and I just didn't want to wait the potential 18 months for the stick dial.
Stolen how?
@@ZephDweri form my very own house, I kept the watch under lock inside my desk apparently it was stolen by the new housekeeper whom we never saw again, she only lasted 1 week while I was away from the house. It was a strange event still leaves me doubts.
@@tiempodesobrahn So sorry to hear that, that's what i'm afraid of and I bought myself a safe and I installed it in the wall in my locked closet. Still risk for robbery tho if i walk uncareful in the streets
OMG what is the price of this bad guy
mine was $36,150 in 2021
My grail!!!!
A definite goal piece for a Rolex. Classic.
Where it with pride , and carry a golden gun to scare away undesirables
Thank you, very nice comment, and merry Christmas!!
The President is only reserved for DayDate 36
Wait how can it happen to get wrong stuff when buying something so expensive? Totally unacceptable.
