  • Alex takes a 2013 Subaru BRZ for a spin to determine whether Subaru's formula for a lightweight rear wheel drive coupe would be as fun as it looks, and is it a driver's car? The question lies with the power plant, "is 200 Hp enough to still be able to have fun?"
    Big thanks to Andrew and Eric Kim for lending the car to us and helping us shoot the video! Sorry for the audio towards the end, it got a little scratchy.

    Agreed. If you are willing to wait 3 or 4 weeks. BMW is always happy to sale you a basic car. Until recently Hids, Heated seats and better handling packages were all well under 2k and available A La Carte. Most long term BMW owners know this. For people new to the brand it is a lesson hard learned.

    This wasn't the design plan however. The car was created to handle properly and turbocharging the boxer motor would have thrown off weight balance and also created a very challenging car for the non experienced driver. Coming in at 2700 lbs and change the appeal here is exactly what you said and that is balance.
    The challenge to reviewing a car like this or the miata is that you will never reach the thrill zone in these cars and that's at the limits of the tires presently mounted.

      Oh, my mistake. I was under the illusion that was the best way to review a product. How could I have been so naive.

      Hands down the worst review ever, and yes you are very naive.

    BMW's 240 hp (265 real hp) 32k RWD 2 series is coming. It should be lighter, meaner and far more beautiful than the current 1 series. The BRZ STI will still be lighter and Normally aspirated and loaded. How many will take it over the option to go BMW? It is a nice time to love cars.

  • @fatboy19831
    @fatboy19831 11 років тому

    It does need a little more top end. Only for those that are willing to pay for it. I am not. As long as you dont mind paying $5000 more than the premium. You will get bigger tires and rims, Better brakes a 8500 rpm red line with better top end and yes 30 more non turbocharged power from the STI. When Subaru catches up with demand for the current car.

    I almost pulled the trigger on this one. Gave the dealer a deposit but they couldn't deliver my brz in wrb. Anyhow, I am now extremely curious to see what the 2014 model will bring us

    my stock 2011 scion tc makes 180 at the crank and it put down 164 whp and 160 lbs ft of toque thats 14 more whp and my car makes 20 less hp at the crank,and the toque in the brz is very high in the rev range and y car makes torque at 2500 rpms

    I really like your review thanks, I'm looking into buying a BRZ or a hyundai genesis coupe 2.0 t , or scion tc, I drive a 97 Toyota corolla so I think 200 HP will be enough for me, what do u think?

  • @winglessang31

    What does he mean it feels like it’s done all the pulling before 5,000rpm? Has he even gone past 5000? That’s when the engine really pulls all the way to redline.

    This was published a month ago. I wonder if after 1 year of the car being out is the time frame it takes for you to realize that the BRZ and the FR-S are identical. The ONLY difference on interior is the head unit and seats covers. Exterior is fogs, headlights, and the rear diffuser. Outside that it's IDENTICAL. No BRZ was sold for less than $28K. The FR-S's start at $24K. Suby is overpriced.

    Anyone who drives a manual and needs a digital display to tell them what gear they are in should be driving an automatic.

    my s2000 has almost 240 at the crank but 190 something to the wheel. welcome to rear wheel drive cars. happens to all rwd cars not just the frs/brz.

    While I enjoyed watching this review you might wanna check your facts.
    No pulling power between 5000-7000rpm... really? Every other review is saying the opposite.
    Also... when you're looking at the wrong camera, it really doesn't fill me with confidence :p

      Everyday driver said the same thing about the car in their head-to-head vs the rx8 and s2000. It's a N/A 2.0 with about 170rwhp...what do you expect?

    You do realize that the brz and frs are exactly the same car

    • @Noah_E
      @Noah_E 10 років тому

      They are NOT the same. The suspension components (the Scion uses softer springs and stiffer shocks), interior materials and layout, options offered, styling, and brand cache are all better on the BRZ than the FR-S.

    • @aznnubbyboy
      @aznnubbyboy 10 років тому +2

      Noah E uhhh i think what kevin was trying to say was that both cars have the same engine, same wheel, same chassis, same gearbox, everything is the same except the front bumper, headlights, some of the interior components, seats and the slightly different suspension tuning. im not sure if you own either one of these but owners of these cars should know what kevin is talking about. lol dont gotta hate haha.

    • @kevinchakkalakkal6740
      @kevinchakkalakkal6740 10 років тому

      Yeah, thats pretty much it, really everything is the same except the tuning of the suspension and some of the interior and exterior aesthetics .

    • @aznnubbyboy
      @aznnubbyboy 10 років тому

      exactly. i do notice the suspension on the brz. subaru made their suspension softer for better handling but toyota made it stiffer for a more tail happy car. I own the frs. its not bad lol.

    • @aznnubbyboy
      @aznnubbyboy 10 років тому

      Noah E one more thing noah. ill assume you dont own this car so dont be telling owners that they are not the same. the way i see it, the car was designed by toyota, put together bu subaru. the scion badge on the frs is made by subaru. how? because i own one and fellow owners debadged and saw a subaru logo. front fenders are made by subaru. how do i know? i own one and i popped my hood and saw subaru on it. engine cover says subaru and toyota, my hood is made my subaru, my trunk is made by subaru. the car is basically stamped with suabru. Now i dont suppose you have an argument because you cant say much unless you own one of these. and if you do, you are an idiot. learn your car before you made stupid comments.
