How I always pulled out the telehandler when it was buried to the axles in mud--- - You extend out the boom all the way, and tie your forks to an anchor/ tree/ truck, etc.. and then you just use your hydraulics to pull your boom back in, and that will pull you out of the hole with ease. Those hydraulics are crazy powerful.
This would of been a good recovery for the Blackhawk.

Somethings are just not meant to come down a mountain in the winter. Lol.
I think the main reason the tele handler kept going opposite where you wanted is because you left it in 4 wheel steer. There’s more weight on the rear when the forks are empty so that’s where she went. If you had straightened the wheels out and put in front steer only, you would have had better success.

I don't understand how you guys consider this video of fail. This is rare example in today's society of men working their asses off attempting a nearly impossible recovery with all the odds stacked against them and continuing to persevere. Incredible job guys! Can't wait for part 2

This is how most recoveries go in the real world, but nobody shows it, nothing really ever goes as planned. If it was easy everyone would do it. Great job, you have shown us for future use multiple ways of how to and how not to recover a telehandler in ridiculously deep snow.

@@america1st160 I couldn't agree more. My brother is a marine who now does towing/recovery and I am an electrician who knows all too well you can spend all the time you want planning and trying to account for anything that goes wrong and some days it's just not going to work out.
What I was thinking. Plus I don't think I've seen them laugh that hard before. Just goes to show that his crew is made of the good stuff.
Running out of gas at the end was just icing on the cake.. as well as Nate having to walk because Bud left him 😂😂

I'm impressed with how well cooperation within your team is and even when seemingly everything goes wrong you guys just get to work and get the job done. I've seen many people crack under much less stress and start fighting.
That snowcat is a straight monster. Thinking it may have been faster just to grade the whole road first and then do the recovery lmao
Yeah when Dave said he could plow but he's not gonna cuz the snowcat was powerful enough to pull the tele I knew he was making a mistake.
I think the problem is Bud and Hillbilly being this close to each other caused a rip in a temporal vortex making everything go wrong.

man i'm sure there are some parts that were cut, but your whole crew's ability to keep your cool as things get progressively worse is beyond amazing. I can tell you now that anybody i've done work even remotely like this for in the past would have blown every gasket in their mental engine when that line broke. I was just thinking the same. It occurred to me that in that line of work, a sane person would realize that by simply agreeing to go up there (or out on any recovery), they're accepting of the potential for the worst possible conditions and situation. Losing your cool about anything or on anyone would serve no benefit and potentially put others at risk. That's a lot of bodies up there in those conditions to be aware of and maintain safety concern for. YT content or not, the situations are real and at times very sketchy.
He also needs a snow blower.

Dave you and the guys brought me back to years past where I've had to thread bolts in to stop pressure but you're really doing a hell of a job for the time up there and all of the problems.
I wanna see a behind the scenes of how these videos come together and all the work that goes into it. Like.. how much preparation do you need for huge jobs like this comparative to a smaller job? It's always sparked my interest on how you even find these jobs or get them and how people reach out.
The reason it was so hard to pull the tele handler was because the back wheels needed to be straight!!! You probably know there’s a function that’s allows you to change to four wheel steering to allow for a tighter turning circle!! I’m sure if the back wheels of the tele handler was straight it would of came out easier!! Well done anyway love watching from in uk 🇬🇧
Exactly, even Dave said he would rather have it dead. Dude driving the telehandler was causing most of the issues. He should have just trusted the pull and sat back for the ride.
Guy driving the tele handler was clueless on how 4 wheel steering works when being pulled.

@@truckguy6.7 If you watch Roby's vid, they say that they turned off the crab walk on the steering.
You need to get Hillbilly out of the Telehandler!!! His driving is making your job 100 times harder then it needs to be. He needs to take it out of quadrasteer and only steer with the front tires. After that he will also need to keep the front tires as straight as possible. When the Telehandler is in quadrasteer it is trying to push the rear end the opposite direction which is off the road/trail, and making the front tires dig into the snow. Always love your videos Dave and how hard you and your crew work. I also appreciate all you do for our community and helping others... Keep up the good work Brother!!!
You guys are freaking awesome!!!!!! I did drop just a few tears of joy, ok a lot. I will support you more and more. At my job I work with a certain carpet cleaning company that actually deals with water restoration and mold remediation. I get rid of the bad stuff, so the property is dry or mold free to build better.

Man, I laughed more on this “rescue” than any other. A good reminder that a successful day in the mountains is only one ring terminal or bolt away from a real adventure.

The reason you were having so much trouble pulling the tele-handler is that the steering was set in “crab walk” mode where the front wheels AND rear wheels are both steering right or left at the same time INSTEAD OF steering with just the front wheels - that was why you could not keep it on the road. There are controls (either a button or a lever setting) in the driver cab of the tele-handler to switch the steering between 3 modes where 1) either the front wheels only steer, 2) the “crab walk” mode where both rear & front wheels steer in same direction or, 3) the front & rear wheels steer in opposite directions. This 2nd & 3rd steering functions are there so that the machine can maneuver in tight spaces but not meant for driving it in a straight line down the road!
I love how Alan went from just in the video to getting a job to being Dave's best guy he got that knows everything about everything haha
And yet he laid in the path of that rope snapping the whole time... Not a great place to be, on the back of that snow cat while pulling

The sleep depravation and delirium setting in at the end is relatable, and absolutely hilarious! I can relate, and this situation sucked at the time, but I bet you will all laugh about this experience for the rest of your lives!

I wish I could get some help from Dave. I'm in dire need right now but I highly doubt he'd help me. I'm about to lose everything and just lost my dad. County coming in to level my property with everything on it. Really sucks
Wow this has been the best I have seen yet. I am semi retired. I worked outside in the sign business for 46 years, a lot of bare handed wiring in the Canadian cold. I can so relate to jobs that went south, but even with broken parts, missing tools, stuff that just didn’t do what it was supposed to, tired, cold, grumpy and euphoric, along with crew members going through their own roller coaster of emotions, but still having to push through, knowing that this will be a bonding time and one hell of a laugh to look back on. I commend you and all of your crew. After a period of time watching that tile handler desperately trying to go for the ditch, I might have been tempted to pit it up and call it in stolen. Lol. The only part that really would have pissed me off truly was running out of fuel at five AM, like a final slap in the face and the end of part one. But it’s a new day tomorrow and fresh eyes will conquer.

The boom of the telehandler was way to high while towing it, that offset the weight so high it would dig every ditch it got it tires to. Great video !!!!
To have such a mood after literally everything goes so bad is really nice to see. Also this sure was hell for you guys it's a pleasure to watch this as always.
After years of working at the resorts, next time bring yourself a shop made sled, you can make it out of wood or steel. Something like that, you can do a 2-4 ft wide 12 ft(enough to fit both tires on) Lift 1 side and Place. Lift the other and place the second. Chain tires to the sled. Make sure you are roped off up hill in case it tries to get away. The softer the snow, the wider the sled. Sled can be out of 1 1/8 ply and some 4x6 or sheets of steel welded. We used a long tank once that was cut in half.
Dave looked so sad and heartbroken when the snowrail lasted 4sec.s with him driving, "I don't know how that happened! LOL

I have a gradall and when he said "well, we got it stuck and then we got it unstuck but then we got it more stuck" I felt that in my soul. This video cracked me up and makes me feel better about my gradall's current predicament (buried up to the top of the back tires in mud).
It seems like no matter what happens, Dave and crew turn it into a good time and have fun. They never give up or get frustrated.

I think this is by far one of the most difficult recoveries Dave and crew has ever done.
Nope. Some of the recoveries of equipment stuck in the mud out in the old salt lake bed were much worse than this. I think the worst recovery was one where Dave got an excavator stuck out on the island he used to own and then kept getting another excavator stuck trying to get the first one out. It took a lot of work and man-hours on that one.

@@rainmetal Exactly. And as we know opinions are like ars holes, everybody has one. But opinions are not always the facts.
The facts are, spending multiple days and A LOT of equipment and man hours means it was more difficult than a recovery that took half the time and 25% of the equipment and man hours. Not hating, just stating.
The telehandler must have really been needed someplace else. It looked like all summer homes, so I would have said "wait a couple months and it will come out". If anyone lived up there in the winter they were never leaving or the road would be plowed. Kudos on getting up there as it made an adventure.

In the past they run out of fuel, or got stuck, or had a hydrolic problem, or had to put track on, or something went over the edge, or this, or that. This time replace the 'or' with 'and', and this video is the result.
The adversity wouldn't have been nearly as much if they had plowed first.

Robbey did something like that before calling D because doing that for miles wasn't viable. But what if the boom is not pointing in a useful direction?

Snow and lack of sleep can really push people to the edge. Poor Allen hanging outside the snow cat at 5am waiting for gas.
It seems like nature is no force to reckon with; The mountain and the amount of snow it's just amazing. Every possible obstacle the nature threw at you guys, around every turn, is just admirable.
