I simply cannot fathom how she is not as famous as Whitney, Mariah, etc. This girl is phenomenal.
Totally underrated voice from the 80's. She can really belt out a song.
I wouldn't say underrated, I'd say underplayed and likely ignored!! Her song "I'll Always Love You" is a favorite of mine. "Original Sin" from one of the Batman films is arguably her best! If you haven't heard it or forgot, check it out.
I would say she's very underrated vocally. She's got a serious set of pipes. She can sing softly and then in the next note put effortless power into it. She's really good, I think.

Yes, she was overshadowed by Whitney Houston at the Arista record label. After that second album, she wasn't that big of priority for the record label.
And she can belt out a song so effortlessly!
One of the most underrated female artists/voices of all time. "Original Sin". Some people think the only hit she ever had was "Tell It To My Heart". But, she had many hits in the 80's and 90's and even a couple of club hits in the 2000's. Love her music.
This song was written by Diane warren, one of the most successful, if not the most successful songwriters ever of the 80s 90s. Hit maker!

So funky “Tell it to My Heart”was my daughter’s favorite dance tune she would do the “ Cabbage Patch” This one was my favorite slow jam! Taylor Dayne was an awesome vocalist!
I don’t mention Taylor Dane more because her voice rips out my heart, stomps on it, and sets it on fire. She kills me every time. No hype needed. She’s phenomenal.

Taylor was one of the pop queens of the 90s. "Prove Your Love" is a banger, as is "I'll Always Love You" (no, not the Whitney song, lol), "Don't Rush Me", "With Every Beat Of My Heart", "I'll Be Your Shelter", and "Heart of Stone". She also did a cool cover of Barry White's "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love". She's now 61, and it's been 15 years since she released an album. I think she's due!
She was on the Mask Singer and got pretty far on the show. She was doing appearances at the Apollo for a while. Not sure what she has been doing since 2018.

This song always brings me to tears, but I don't think it's the lyrics. It's just the awesomeness of the song & probably remembering a time when we had a lot of songs like this coming out. Today's kids/teens don't have that. If they're smart or lucky, they will discover these songs anyway.
You are lucky. When my first love left me this song was popular. She never came back but I have been happily married for 38 years.

Taylor had that rare quality where as soon as you heard her start to sing you knew exactly who it was because she didn’t sound like any of her contemporaries. My youngest daughter loved her from the time she was a little, little girl. I remember her walking around the house or riding in the car singing I’ll Be Your Shelter which, I believe, is her best song. My daughter called it the Na Na Na Na Na song lol. Would love to watch you listen to that one some time - Jay may even call it 🔥!!
Another 80's lady who had some killer songs is Karyn White. She had a run of top 10 hits that included Superwoman, The Way You Love Me, Secret Rendezvous, and Romantic.
I've been crushing on Taylor since '88. Being a rock musician, on nights not gigging we'd go to the dance clubs to you know, listen to dance music. 😉 Taylor's songs and voice reigned supreme back then for me. Which speaks volumes as her contemporaries were Madonna, Whitney, Paula and Janet. Taylor is still a powerhouse and a stunner! 🤘

What a gem! I saw Taylor Dayne in a small venue in Springfield, MA in 1992 or so. She had a live band and was so good. Later that year she came back through, and I gave my mom tickets to see her for her 45th birthday. She loved the show too!

Taylor Dayne is my girl!!!! I was stationed in Hawaii when she came out with her album with this song. I was into the dance club scene and she TOOK over the dance songs, the slow songs, everything. and her powerhouse voice had no equal!!
To my ears, Taylor Dayne has one of the most unforgettable voices in music history. It's a shame that you seldom hear her music or even her name anymore. Her vocal style comes from a place deep in her soul and it grabbed me from her first hit (1987's "Tell it to My Heart") and never let me go. Her vocal performance in this song is my all time favorite of her entire career. The intense belief that love will one day bring him back to her is sung with a conviction so deep that only a fool would walk away from a love so strong knowing full well he'll be back. As power ballads (and relationships) go, this one has the ability to tear your heart out and beat you with it until you come to your senses. Well done Ms. Dayne.

This is what is known as a torch song, and it was a perfect pairing of singer and song. Lord have mercy, as we say in the South, Taylor’s vocals on “Love Will Lead You Back” are gorgeous. And her sultry looks in this video compliment the music and lyrics (by the prolific Diane Warren) which adds greatly to the overall effect. The video was high on MTV’s rotation list on it’s release, and I found myself watching MTV for hours at a time just wanting to catch this video. I was much younger then and mesmerized by what I was seeing and hearing. Now I’m much older, and I’m still mesmerized all these years later.

This is my favorite song by Dayne in what turned out to be (in my opinion) a surprisingly short-lived career, as far as hit songs were concerned. To this day I'm still stumped as to why someone with such an amazing voice wasn't more consistent or last longer in the music industry. BTW, that's all her, no vocal enhancements. She has a serious sets of pipes. I'm not certain that they had those types of (software) vocal enhancements back in the late 80s, other than volume controls on the mixing board.😉 Peace & Love🕊❤
