Kia and Hyundai were in the same boat a few years ago when they first started to come to the US. Give Tesla a few years. They're giving jobs to americans, trying to be innovative, and trying to push new boundaries. ALSO, people who can afford these high end models have plenty of money to fix them and do not think on 95% of the norms level. Automatic doors, spoilers, doors handles, sensors, etc is just asking for more possible failures and it's not an if. It's a when. You're right, so we should cease ALL innovation. We should just use what we have, because what he have now has NEVER had problems before! Hell we should just ride horses again, because cars require too much maintenance! Excellent overview there, Mark.
I agree innovative is necessary, no-one would suggest going backwards, but is it actually an improvement when it comes at the expense of extra complication, cost and reliability?
John Armstrong the door has nothing to do with innovation, the central computer is the brain of the car , and if the car is build badly it wont really resist with time
@@johnarmstrong1366 A lot of these issues just have to do with shaving off costs. They did not happen due to innovation. It's not like a door or a window is new. Properly mounting car sensors instead of bad glue is not new. Material Science is not a new field of science. You're paying a lot for these cars, I think you people deserve to have a lot more in the build quality department. Mark makes a very good point. A lot of these designs are not made to stand the test of time without (compared to other car manufactures) early servicing of these features. They could have been. They could have used higher precision in the manufacturing process, they could have used stronger materials at the door hinge, they could have properly mounted the door sensors. They did not. It's not the cost you pay for innovation. It's the cost you pay for a relatively new car manufacturer that needs these cars out quicker and cheaper.

In times of 240 production start, Volvo already produced cars for over 50 years. It's also worth remembering that 240 was produced for 20 years straight! (thats quite a very long time for one model). If yours was produced in the late 80s or early 90s, they have already sorted all issues, because they made this one specific car for decades! Tesla is doing manufacturing just from the late 2000s, in fact since 2012. Model X is on the market for no more than 4 years, it also has a shitton of electric servomotors which 240 didn't have at all. Modern Volvos can also have quite huge problems with electronics, so the main source of 240 dependabiility lies in its extremely simple nature more than in some incredible Swedish ingenuity (as some fans of volvo claim), unfortunately.
